Alas, most of the pine we grow here in New Zealand grows so fast that the grain is generally completely uninteresting. It's fine for utility pieces, but it seldom makes anything very attractive in itself.

Wow, look what you “found”…hiding in that block of wood. I love that relaxing distraction. Great work, as always!

I have a 1928 house. In our attic were very tight grain pine boards 5cm thick 30 cm wide. We think it was cut over 110 years ago. I put a piece on my lathe, and when the gouge touched it, the smell of fresh pine filled the air. I wish I could send you a piece.

Aaa I know that smell, that is awsome, unfourtually sending lumber can be really expensive but thank you very much 😀

I quite like the result. Nothing wrong with pine as long as you don't hit a pitch pocket. LOL. And thanks for posting this. I did learn a thing or two that I can use.

Clever trick to cut the masking tape. I make boxes without a purpose and they are fun....I understand. Usually end up giving them away.

Sometimes it's fun to just make shavings until you run out of wood or to practice with your gouges to see what happens!
    Take care, Dave

Sweet! I especially enjoyed the "stepped beading" technique on the upper outside rim. Don't believe I've ever seen that technique before. Very nicely done! 👍

I’m in the process of practicing spindle work. I have zero ideas about what to turn, so I’m turning spintops. Since fir here in northern Italy is the least expensive wood, I am using fir… pretty unforgiving wood.
I like challenges, so I plan to add skew chisel practicing… with fir.
I think you will hear the bangs of my multiple catches from your own home 😂😂😂

Aaa no worries, we all been there and just don't give up, I always suggest that you practice little bit and then go for a project, that way it will mean more to you instead of just practice timber.....
Ideas to turn, great spindle excersizes, eggs, pine tree, small baseball bat

I think that's brilliant! Might be "useless" but would sell well in our local art markets and craft fairs for sure! You always teach me something new and inspire me to keep at it!
