I'm thinking about Band in the Box. I'm just not sure about how to use this for original song creation. It seems there isn't enough variation to make original music. I don't want my songs to be too close to another song that someone else makes. I love your workflow in it.🥰 For those with ADD, I went to 2 bars for the intro. I don't have the patience to wait. I also get through the verse ASAP to get to my bread and butter.
First of all ALL songs have similar characteristicss. The variation comes into play when you create distinctive melodies against those chord and rhythm patterns. You don't have to use the intro. This tutorial only showed how to for those that want something different.
This is just what I needed today. First, using the intro dialog box from the Song Form button was vital. I already had a song w/o intro and didn't know how to insert just the intro. So that alone saved me a lot of time copying and pasting within the form. But also, your teaching about needing to catch the listener quickly is right on, and just as important. (Don't need to add a lengthy boring intro!!) Thanks, man, appreciate it. 🙂
I enjoy your tutorial videos and your ideas and suggestions. If I may make a production suggestion, I think it would help make it easier to follow where you're clicking by going to your mouse settings and setting it to display long trails and then momentarily circling the button you are about to click on before you actually do. It would make it so much easier to follow. I wish more people would do this in their videos too. Thanks again for all the great tips!
You rock Henry! I have a minor correction for you... When using bar settings with repeats you can make changes to each chorus of the song. Look at the top of bar settings and you will see a box asking which chorus(s) to apply the changes to. I'm like you, in that I only use one chorus but before I started doing that I used bar settings to set up my song. Keep up the good work Henry.
Great suggestion. I probably didn't focus on that because I'm so opposed to using bar setting. I usually don't have a good idea where I want the song to go so I tend to not use those.
@@henryclarke5407 I may be able to add something here by something I've observed. If one uses the Chord Settings dialog box, there is no way to make a change to one chorus only (as far as I can see). Thus a good argument for putting the whole song, multiple choruses, in one song form chorus (and I've done that a fair amount). For example, in a jazz song in finishing out the first chorus, it is sometimes desirable to have the whole band play the downbeat of the second-to-last bar as a shot and keep silent for the next 7 beats (in 4/4 time), to give the soloist who starts the 2nd chorus a "springboard". The problem is, in using the Chord Builder for that, it puts that shot and silent beats of the last two bars of the chorus in every other chorus in the song. Thus a good argument for putting the whole song in one song form chorus. If you try to add that shot and silent beats using the Bar Settings dialog box, you can apply it just to one (or select other) choruses, but you lose the shot, rest, hold chord features available only in the Chord Settings dialog box. You can mute the whole band or unmute it only, using the Bar Settings features. No shot, etc.
@@henryclarke5407 Thanks for taking the time to answer me and giving me the extra tutoring through your other video. I know you're busy and I appreciate it... 🙂
You can have different instruments going in and out when you have repeats. At the top of the bar settings you have "Settings Apply to Chorus #" that is set to "All Choruses". You can change this to any chorus you want. This way I've created 15+ minute background songs with instruments slowly fading in and out at different moments.
Probably a good tip but I don't care for repeats in any fashion. I like to set the mood throughout the song with different instruments and feels and I'd rather change in my DAW so I can change my mind on the fly without worrying about bar setting and choruses. I rarely produce songs in their final version in BIAB. I bring ALL the instruments over to Sonar and arrange from there.
Hi Henry. I work alot in Biab.Do you know if there´s another way to generete a new track in a song. For now if i put in a new instrumet i have to generat all the tracks again and i take´s some time. All the best. Peter..
Henry, or anyone who might know; How do I report a bug in the PG Music Forum? I gave up on using the Forum a while ago because of login problems. It worked for a while. I was able to login. Then I needed to change my Forum password because I forgot it. Got the email with temp password (several times), I went in changed the password, but when I hit "Submit" the old password returns to the boxes I just typed the new password into. Any help, Guys? Anyone? I am totally frustrated now. Thanks!!
Great I Use This Feature A lot ! Some of my endings however do not stop at last bar? Sometimes the drums or chords play an unwanted fill 2 bars after ending any Thoughts ?
I know what you're talking about with that "unwanted cadenza." I just create a tag or sometimes just remove it, if that will work for that particular song.
"SONG FORM"! I shoulda known... Thanks again Henry
Thank you, great info. I am an intermediate bassist, novice songwriter and producer, and I find your tutorial very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!

You're welcome. Sometimes the intro is not exactly what you'd expect but I have been pleasantly surprised from time to time.
Awesome vid, exactly what i was looking for. Thanks for making this!

It shouldn't take long but you can freeze all the tracks except for the one you want to generate and they should speed up the process.

Go to song settings and disable this feature near the bottom. It will stop adding 2 bars at end.
why is the audio in your videos so low level?
