I would love to see this in person for myself. My brother just spent one of his two weeks on his honeymoon in Rome to see this himself. He brought back a shit ton of gifts that were made in Rome to spread among my family. I got an amazing brass gladiator and gold Roman helm that now sits on my desk. I too hope to see Rome one day in person. :D

The decision to spare or save a fallen fighter in the arena was not actually done by a thumbs up or thumbs down. That's just how we've come to think of it. There is no actually documentation stating that that is how decisions were made.

Maybe you could make a business out of this. You start small. How many tourists from all over the world would pay to help build a small roman style amphitheater?
They don't have to be as tough as the original slaves, work only for two weeks, and you don't use whips to make them go faster. This would be a potentially prick-free work environment, only workers that came for the fun experience.
They pay you so you can buy materials and some skilled workers that know how to put things together.
