There are 4 reasons why soda tastes better in glass. 1. Glass bottles can hold higher pressures of CO2 and they have fewer sites for bubbles to form when compared to plastics so they hold more carbonation in solution longer once opened. Aluminum (aluminium) can's are lined with a thin organic plastic liner as soda's are too acidic to be in direct contact with the aluminum. Higher CO2 in solution is perceived as more "bite" or "crispness". 2. Glass bottles retain temperature better. The long neck and heavy mass help keep the liquid slightly colder. Minor changes in temperature by even half a degree can alter the balance of flavors your tongue detects. 3. The opening of the bottle plays a significant part in the smells we perceive. When you drink small amounts of vapor and organic compounds travel up the back of mouth, into your sinus cavities, and contribute heavily in the nuances of tasting. The size and shape of that opening changes how much and which of those compounds we detect. 4. Mouth feel is an important part of the eating process, and people generally seem to prefer the sensation of glass over other materials. Now the reason we don't use them as much anymore is because they add to the upfront cost of the item, the transport costs (weight), and handling (more fragile). While glass is infinitely more sustainable energy wise than cans or plastic bottles, the companies would rather see up front cost savings than having to buy in to a longer-term recycling ecosystem.

I know it's a bit late to say this but when you're camping, the easiest breakfast in the world to make is to grab a package of Bob Evan's breakfast sausages and put them in a frying pan. Add a couple of sliced Granny Smith apples (skin on) and cook til you think it's finished. I like mine well cooked. Nothing else is needed. No oil, no butter. No muss, no fuss! Simple. The grease from the sausages cooks everything. The apples flavor the sausages and the sausages flavor the apples. Only thing to clean is the frying pan. Viola! Bon Appetite! (I didn't say it is a healthy breakfast, just saying it tastes great and keeps your stomach full for hours!)
That glass bottle of Coke you bought is what we call "Mexican Coke" in the US, because it's imported from Mexico and uses real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
@@Anon54387 Mostly a myth used for marketing now. All Mexican coke stopped using real sugar in the 1990s and early 2000s. "Mexican Coke" imported into the US is now actually a specific product made for the US market from a single bottling plant. All coca cola plants in Central and South America now use High-Fructose Corn Syrup. The taste difference is that the standard Fructose percentage in HFCS varies from country to country by up to 5%. US, Canadian, UK, EU, and Australian standards for HFCS are the same, but Mexico, Brazil, Chilie, and Argentina, India, China, and Japan have different standards. There are very few places on the planet where soda is made with real sugar and not the "throwback" formulations. Now if you live near the Mexico border you will find some coke from Mexico not specifically from the same Mexican plant that produces the "Mexican Coke" for US import. This is coke that was brought over the border usually by small shop owners. From what experts can tell it's mainly just labeling and supplier differences to meet different import/taxation regulations.
as an oregonian i thoroughly enjoy watching your reactions to this states natural beauty, even though youre all just going up the coastline. yall need to make another trip to explore the rest of oregons geographical beauty. we have it all here. luscious forests, obviously the coastline, the mountain ranges, volcanoes etc. you could spend weeks here easily exploring. also, i hope yall visit the tillamook creamery. its pretty much the gold standard for cheese in the the pnw.
Excellent posting as always - the Goonies natural set is a perfect location. I've been down the Oregon coast heading south from Vancouver Canada and the roads can be crazy when going down from the mountains.
I love how you guys are always excited about everything you see. It always puts me in a happy and appreciative mood. I'm not usually a fan of family vlog channels but your family's is so wholesome. I love how you don't seem to pressure the kids to be on camera, don't show their vulnerable moments, and overall just keep a healthy balance of living life and also vlogging. Love you guys for this reason! Next time you're in southern CA, go to the Goonies speakeasy in San Clemente! It's called The Lost Inferno. You would absolutely love it (I've been and the vibes are immaculate) :)
I'm a sales rep in Oregon and I sell to gift shops in all the towns along the coast. It was fun seeing things from a visitor's perspective. Too bad you didn't have time to stop in more towns. You missed the really cute part of Florence. If you went to the bay in Newport, you could have seen docks overflowing with sea lions laying on them, making a lot of noise. Heceta Head Lighthouse (you saw it from Sea Lion Cave) has a fantastic view of the coast and down towards the beach below. Christmas Cottage is at the southern end of Lincoln City and Pronto Pup is in Rockaway Beach, which has a great rock formation called twin rocks. Looking forward to your next video.
Yes I’m from Oregon and I was thinking how much better of a view you get of the sea lions just laying on the docks down in Newport bay than at the sea lion caves. A much closer look at least. They’re so loud too, all just barking at each other and fighting for dock space to lay on. It’s always a must stop any time we’re in Newport.
Yes, I found this video a bit frustrating because they skipped the places I regard as highlights. And what is wrong with their navigation app if they have to puzzle over which town they are in?
@caulkins69 I agree, they went through cape perpetua, depot bay and Tillamook but didn't stop I guess I live about 100 miles from the coast and get over a few times a year and still haven't seen everything it has to offer
I'm a native of the Coos Bay area (North Bend). All the bridges on 101 were built by Conde McCullough, the engineer who figured out pre-stressed concrete. Each bridge is a graphic representation of the local community. Conde's retirement cabin is not far from the North Bend bridge, up the Coos River. My grandpa knew him as he was mayor of Empire, which today is the western side of the city of Coos Bay. Thank you for showing my homeland. I miss it, but have retired to Lower Alabama, just north of Mobile. We love it here, but I will always love my home.
I grew up in Salem just down the block from Conde McCullough's house! I stopped every year when trick-or-treating on Halloween. It's a block north of the Governor's Mansion, Mahonia Hall.
It is a pleasure seeing you all visit and enjoy many of our countries scenic wonders that are often taken for granted by many who live here. New Zealand family are absolute legends!!
I can't tell you how much fun it is watchin you enjoy our country. You are showing most of us places we've never seen. It's such a big country I'm not sure it's possible to see it all. Love how tickled you were to see Cannon Beach
If you love Christmas so much, you need to go to Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth, Michigan. It’s the largest Christmas store in the country.
Yes, I've always loved Frankenmuth - some good food there as well. I hope the family gets to Michigan some day, because it's a gorgeous state surrounded by Great Lakes and lovely scenery. And has a whole other part of the state in the UP. The Great Lakes states in general are beautiful - I'm from northern Ohio and grew up there.
Your vlogs have the best soundtracks! Always great music. Loved seeing the wonder and awe in all of your eyes when you were at Sea Lion Caves. Sea Lion Caves should use your video footage for a promotional advertisement - it's high quality and just perfect. And the excitement in Sam's expression once you entered Astoria and he saw Haystack Rock was priceless. I could see the little child version of Sam even though it's 30 years later. He was just vibrating with exhilaration at being there! I'm so happy for you folks getting to do all of these wonderful things. What a dream come true. Looking forward to your Goonies tour video.
I am in my mid-seventies now and living in the Northeast, but grew up in the fifties in Portland, Oregon, and Cannon Beach, along with Astoria and Seaside, were my favorite summer vacation spots. Enjoy yourselves! you lucky kiwis!.
Ok, I think is one of my favorite videos seeing Sam’s giddiness and excitement. Love going on this trip with you. Next time come up the East Coast and visit Western New York and Niagara Falls
I was there last month and got to see a huge elk up close right off the road by a house. Haystack Rock is amazing as always. I never get tired of the Oregon coast, we try to make it at least once a year.
I've stood on the Oregon coast. I visited a college friend who lived there , but it was winter and very foggy. Thanks for giving me a better look ! Congratulations , Sam, for making your dream a reality , we appreciate the inspiration !
I used to live in MANZANITA, and SEASIDE! My home away from home! My Grandma spanked me behind the little cannon just off the highway. I must have been acting up!🫢 I used to deliver the Daily Astorian Newspaper to "the Goonies house" ('97-'99)❤
I've lived on the East coast of the US my entire life. You're visiting places I've never heard of. Thanks for introducing me to such beauty. It's so far from where I live. But if you can travel from New Zealand, I find a way to visit my family on the West coast.
George I'm an Oregonian been east but never to Maine or deep south! Now I'm looking to leave the us may never get to Maine or Florida? But I won't live under fascist trump!
I adore Florence, OR. My family little family would drive up from Northern California every couple of years to camp out with my dad’s side of the family at Honeyman Beach and we’d take trips into town to shop, or see a movie, or go to Pizza Hut. Some of the best times in our lives to the point that my grandmother requested her ashes be spread in the ocean there. I need to get back for a visit, but this is the next best thing.
I live in Oregon and forget how beautiful it really is. I wish you had known about the Wildlife Cat Reserve just outside of Bandon on the coast. You can hold the current babies they have. Could be lions, tigers, leopards, bears or who knows. If you do the Oregon coast again it's a must see. I am anxiously awaiting to see if you went to the Airplane museum that houses the Spruce Goose & also features some fighter jets. I am loving your videos.
Seeing your family grow together and experiencing all the joys that you guys do is amazing. Watching this video reminded me of when I went to devil's Tower for the first time. That was number one on my bucket list since I was a child. The laughter and excitement when haystacks Rock came into you for you I can totally relate to. When I first could see devil's Tower in the distance I had to pull over because it became an emotional experience for me. I was not expecting it. It's in that moment when you realize that something that might seem simple to somebody else can mean so much to you. Making a lifelong dream come true is a feeling that is unmatched. Thank you guys for your incredible content as you create memories and share them with all of your fans.
As somebody who was born and raised in Oregon and who has watched your channel for a couple of years, this made me smile to see you enjoy the same things I have since I was a boy and even now.

The town before Newport is Depoe Bay - blink and you'll miss it. You guys are awesome!
Same was like a kid at Christmas. I found myself smiling at his excitement.
What an epic trip…You guys are LEGENDS!
What a cool experience
That glass bottle of Coke you bought is what we call "Mexican Coke" in the US, because it's imported from Mexico and uses real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
I know. I wish we still had the glass bottles in the USA and the real sugar. The glass bottles keep the drink cooler on a hot day.
We also use the phrase "Mexican Coke" for something else. Heh
@@SansAziza oh that too...I prefer Columbian Coke
as an oregonian i thoroughly enjoy watching your reactions to this states natural beauty, even though youre all just going up the coastline. yall need to make another trip to explore the rest of oregons geographical beauty. we have it all here. luscious forests, obviously the coastline, the mountain ranges, volcanoes etc. you could spend weeks here easily exploring. also, i hope yall visit the tillamook creamery. its pretty much the gold standard for cheese in the the pnw.
@caulkins69
I agree, they went through cape perpetua, depot bay and Tillamook but didn't stop I guess
I live about 100 miles from the coast and get over a few times a year and still haven't seen everything it has to offer
@mgman6000 yes and what a missed opportunity to not stop at Kylo's restaurant in Lincoln city in honor of their dog. My family loves Kylo's.
They missed all my main stops! Live in Washington but visit the Oregon Coast multiple times a year for the last 20+ years
that song at 30m mark of video make me feel old since was 17 at time it came out and was in high school.
Great song 🎵 I was singing along. 😊
Love the art deco looks.
I love how you all are enjoying yoursleves while munching on "iconic stuff" that we get so tired of over here.
It’s always a great evening when the NZ fam drop a video!!! Just in time to watch while I eat burritos
It is a pleasure seeing you all visit and enjoy many of our countries scenic wonders that are often taken for granted by many who live here. New Zealand family are absolute legends!!
It always makes me happy to get your notification! ❤
Thanks for the trip to Oregon ! It was beautiful !❤❤❤❤
They stay at a Christmas hotel a bit later in the trip. In TN I think.
So much fun. You all will remember this for your lifetime.
Ahhh that intro made me miss my father so much. I'm so glad your family has experienced such an amazing trip. Much love to you all!
I am in my mid-seventies now and living in the Northeast, but grew up in the fifties in
Portland, Oregon, and Cannon Beach, along with Astoria and Seaside, were my favorite
summer vacation spots. Enjoy yourselves! you lucky kiwis!.
I love watching your adventures ❤❤ always bring a smile to my heart and face. Also great camera work 👌🏾 👏🏾
🤓 Thanks for showing us Oregon, that cool underground cave, and the seals and animals! I learned a lot!
They've really updated Sea Lion Caves experience since I was a kid. I remember seeing the animals but the smell was INTENSE!
They also filmed kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwartznegger in Astoria
It's not a rumor people! ;)
Who is your daddy and what does he do?
Brother, that was so beautiful seeing you so happy. Hope you enjoyed being a kid again.
Such a lucky family. A wife that actually loves her husband and kids who enjoy time with their parents Very rare
Blessed
Ok, I think is one of my favorite videos seeing Sam’s giddiness and excitement. Love going on this trip with you. Next time come up the East Coast and visit Western New York and Niagara Falls
God bless the USA🇺🇸🇺🇸
Watching your family get excited and happy is epic, thanks for taking us along.
Absolutely agree 👍
The best place to see sea lions is downtown Newport, Oregon on the fish docks. Nancy
Without a doubt!
Definitely. I have to top and watch them every time in Newport.
The Christmas Cottage is out of control....SOOOOOO many ornaments. Everything you could imagine and more. Themes galore.
Cannon Beach is the best. I've been there several times and would go back at every chance. The tidal pools are so much fun to explore.
I must have been acting up!🫢
I used to deliver the Daily Astorian Newspaper to "the Goonies house" ('97-'99)❤
Any idea what Manzanita means? We have a Manz. Avenue here in town, and I never knew what that signified.
Sam, I'm just blown away by your editing. And those drone shots are amazing as well. Absolutely pro.
I agree 💯
Thanks, thumbs up, have a great day.
Hey you guys!
GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!🏴☠️
As somebody who was born and raised in Oregon and who has watched your channel for a couple of years, this made me smile to see you enjoy the same things I have since I was a boy and even now.

In the Goonies, they filmed the town settings in Astoria. Beautiful town.
That's next up.
The kids will remember these trips for a long time.
I love the choice to use licensed music for a soundtrack to the vlogs. Gives a professional feel.
Thanks for noticing! We try to make our videos feel a little more cinematic!
I’ve been loving the music too!
@@yournewzealandfamily Your editing is outstanding. You could have a career in the film industry.
Oregon just doesn't get enough love or time from many youtubers that visit the states. I Appreciate the time you spent here.
Goonies never say die!
Loving these weekly videos. Can't wait to see what's in store for season 2 of "Your New Zealand Family Abroad". Next video I hope Sam does the Truffle shuffle.
He does the pizza place window scene. Complete with vintage Pepsi cup.
Y'all really are living the American Dream. It's so awesome to see the love you have for our country!
What a special trip with certainly great memories for the family to always remember. Thank you for sharing, I definitely want to visit the beach of our generation’s childhood someday too.
Its amazing you get to live out your dream and share it with you family. Amazing man.
So so grateful!
@yournewzealandfamily as a man from Oregon who now lives in Washington its been great seeing your trip 101 and how much you all have enjoyed it. It brought back after my time in the 101st airborne div.
This was so amazing! As a child of the 80s, I've been obsessed with The Goonies since I was a child, just like Sam. I've always wanted to go to the west coast and see the filming locations -you all are so blessed! Can't wait for the next video!!! Also - I have to comment again how incredible Sam's editing skills are. I watch a lot of youtube videos and the editing here is top notch quality!! So fun to watch! Have to go watch The Goonies again now brb...
America is back!!! I encourage you to keep exploring our great country. Love y'all.

Man I started crying when I heard roxette because she passed away from cancer lead singer and and that hit me hard for some reason and plus I grew up on the Goonies too 47-year-old '80s kid seen it probably literally over 20 times
Gen-X classic.
He's sooo happy and excited. Good for him. Family is happy for him. Excellent music and editing also 👌
My dad lived Florence, OR and we are in Eugene, OR. Thanks for visiting
I just want to say that you two are such a good example of what kind, loving parenting looks like. There are definately people that follow you who need your example. Thank you for being you. ❤
