What's The Different Fluorides In Toothpaste?

  • Let's talk about the different types of fluoride toothpaste, including sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride, and sodium monofluorophosphate.
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and aids in the prevention of tooth decay. Fluoride is not a toxin. Lots of people are spreading misinformation on social media - either knowingly to sell their own product or unknowingly. Research shows that false information online travels farther, faster, deeper, and more broadly than the truth (Vosoughi et al., 2018).
Those who still claim it’s a toxin often forget that EVERYTHING can be toxic at a certain dose. You can have too much oxygen in the air, and you won’t be able to breathe, because it would be toxic at a certain dose.
Also, I’m not coming at you if you prefer non-fluoride. Luckily, we are all in charge of our own bodies, and which toothpastes we use. I’m just providing evidence-based information. I’ve had far too many patients switch to non-fluoride and next time I see them they have cavities :(
Lastly, do I think nano-hydroxyaptite is good? Yes, the studies look promising. It appears to be safe and effective, although the data is limited. See sources below.

I know this isnt related but i really want an answer to this i want to get into this field but is it true that dental hygiene school when your practicing on patients do you as a student have to find your own patients just how is that possible when no one in your social cirle or area is willing to come to be your patient and when the dental hygiene school is far as well?

I'm from the UK, I always use Sensodyne Repair and Protect. I have really sensitive teeth due to weak and very thin enamel (caused by another medical condition - acid e.g.) I was prescribed Colgate Duraphat 5000 a few years back. That really helped, but when that ran out my dentist said ordinary toothpastes like Sensodyne were sufficient. I also made it a habit to use Fluoride Mouthwash too. Listerine Fluoride Mouthwash is really good.
