What's The Different Fluorides In Toothpaste?

- Let's talk about the different types of fluoride toothpaste, including sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride, and sodium monofluorophosphate.
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and aids in the prevention of tooth decay. Fluoride is not a toxin. Lots of people are spreading misinformation on social media - either knowingly to sell their own product or unknowingly. Research shows that false information online travels farther, faster, deeper, and more broadly than the truth (Vosoughi et al., 2018).
Those who still claim it’s a toxin often forget that EVERYTHING can be toxic at a certain dose. You can have too much oxygen in the air, and you won’t be able to breathe, because it would be toxic at a certain dose.
Also, I’m not coming at you if you prefer non-fluoride. Luckily, we are all in charge of our own bodies, and which toothpastes we use. I’m just providing evidence-based information. I’ve had far too many patients switch to non-fluoride and next time I see them they have cavities :(
Lastly, do I think nano-hydroxyaptite is good? Yes, the studies look promising. It appears to be safe and effective, although the data is limited. See sources below.

thank YOU for helping via patreon!!!! so happy we have this toothy community!!!
Please you forgot Amine fluoride😢😢 and that was the most important one for me. @TeethTalk
@@TeethTalklove your video thou.
Why wouldnt both sodium and stannous fluorides be mixed together in one toothpaste?
It is. At least in Germany my toothpaste contains 800 ppm stannous fluoride and 650 ppm sodium fluoride :)
This is really good information. I’m going to have to remember which fluoride to get I was told fluoride is bad for you, but I’m glad I got the facts straight.
so much misinformation out there! I'm working on the "fluoride isn't toxic" video -- will share it soon!
Stannous fluoride absolutely used to stain my teeth. So glad they fixed that. I also have sensitive teeth and it works much better for me than potassium nitrate.
ahhhh! so glad they fixed that too!
Bro can u tell me which company toothpaste we should take
I use sodium fluoride in the morning and stannous fluoride in the night. Why do I do that I don’t know lol. But I do prefer stannous Fluoride.
Top-notch information as always!
THANK YOU!!! :)
very informative thanks
will look for Stannous fluoride next time
Great info. I just checked my toothpaste ingredients and learned that it has stannous flouride.
I use Sensodyne with Novamin. It is only available outside the US. Do you know why it is not available in the US? I think it works better on the sensitivity than the Sensodyne available in the US.
I think it's a FDA approval issue (toothpaste being considered a drug versus a cosmetic) -- but I'm going to look into it more!
Thank you for this video! :)
thank you for watching!
I would love a video about the fluoride controversy so I could better discuss this with patients
yesssss!!! working on it now :) I'm eager to share it!!!
Which colgate would be best to prevent it
Super helpful video!
What are your thoughts on hydroxyapatite toothpastes? (With fluoride, of course 😅)
Thank you for watching! I think it's a great addition in fluoride toothpaste -- but I still prefer fluoride over hydroxyapatite due to fluoride fighting against decay in more acidic environments. Video coming soon comparing the 2!
@@TeethTalk thank you for replying. Looking forward to the video. Love your channel ❤️
I know this isnt related but i really want an answer to this i want to get into this field but is it true that dental hygiene school when your practicing on patients do you as a student have to find your own patients just how is that possible when no one in your social cirle or area is willing to come to be your patient and when the dental hygiene school is far as well?
Good video! I have a question: Why do they even bother selling hard bristle toothbrushes?
Money
yep! here's my video explaining: ruclips.net/user/shorts10prCJOpkuI
@@TeethTalk Thanks!
I’ve been using Sensodyne Rapid Relief the past few months, which contains stannous fluoride. My tooth sensitivity is gone. A few weeks ago I went to the dentist, and she said I have no cavities or tartar. Stannous fluoride ain’t no joke!
yesssss!!!!!!!!
Thanks for this info! Are there any stannous fluoride toothpastes that are ADA approved? I ended up just getting Colgate Anti-cavity.
thank you for watching!!! here's the ADA seal of acceptance list: www.ada.org/resources/research/science-and-research-institute/ada-seal-of-acceptance/product-search?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw-O6zBhASEiwAOHeGxeoIwPpQYyRG_6DmY2wMbxutEew0uoNwcsr-k8wGgWWHfVmBu-NZYBoCUwQQAvD_BwE#sort=%40productname%20ascending&f:@category=[Fluoride%20Toothpastes]
@@TeethTalk Thanks for sending the list. Interesting - There aren’t as many as I would’ve expected. Please keep up the awesome content! I am learning a lot.
I have braces and one of the ortho assistants gave me a prescription strength fluoride toothpaste!
yessss! prescription strength for the win!!! (when needed!)
Yes please for the fluoride controversy video
filming it this week :) :) stay tuned!
Which type of toothpaste should I use to block sensitivity nerve pain
here's my sensitivity toothpaste video -- hope this helps: ruclips.net/video/6RY_NtVW6bU/видео.html
(usually want to look for the ingredients potassium nitrate and stannous fluoride)
@TeethTalk OK which type of toothpaste has that fluoride and posstum Nitrate
Can u tell me which company should we take as there is lot of options out so it's risky to take anyone without knowledge
I always recommend ADA approved products! Then you know they've been tested for safety and efficacy -- www.ada.org/resources/research/science-and-research-institute/ada-seal-of-acceptance/product-search#sort=%40productname%20ascending&f:@category=[Fluoride%20Toothpastes]
What about calcium fluoride? I noticed negative impact of sodium fluoride to my kidneys. So I decided to try another toothpaste with calcium fluoride instead of sodium fluoride. Just waiting for delivery. But I didn't hear about calcium fluoride in this video. Why?
Hi teeth talk girl! Could you respond to me: love your channel!: I am very concerned because I bought Colgate total antibacterial whitening: I noticed my teeth turned Slightly yellow after about less than a month: I am freaking out! Have you has experience with this toothpaste?
Whitney is my tooth fiery, but instead of taking my teeth she helps me keep 'em white n' healthy! ❤
So what do I buy
I recommend any toothpaste that has the ADA Seal of Acceptance on it -- then you know that it's been tested for safety and efficacy: www.ada.org/resources/research/science-and-research-institute/ada-seal-of-acceptance/product-search#sort=%40productname%20ascending&f:@category=[Fluoride%20Toothpastes]
Stannous fluoride has too many additional benefits to not use over sodium fluoride
As a dental assistant what do tell a patient that doesn’t use fluoride
I used flouride most of my life, I find that xylitol works better
I have a video coming out soon explaining how fluoride is superior to other anti-cavity ingredients due to how it dissolves at a lower pH than the rest (aka it fights against acids better in more acidic environments). video and science explanation coming soon! until then, I always mention how it's the only approved ingredient by the American Dental Association regarding safety and effectiveness for cavity prevention in toothpaste! hope this helps!
I'm from the UK, I always use Sensodyne Repair and Protect. I have really sensitive teeth due to weak and very thin enamel (caused by another medical condition - acid e.g.) I was prescribed Colgate Duraphat 5000 a few years back. That really helped, but when that ran out my dentist said ordinary toothpastes like Sensodyne were sufficient. I also made it a habit to use Fluoride Mouthwash too. Listerine Fluoride Mouthwash is really good.
Flouride and anti sceptic agents inhibit the natural and essential nitric oxide process, might want to look into that. Also, xylitol is great for teeth, a fact overlooked in the usa
currently there aren't any studies concluding those claims about fluoride in toothpaste inhibiting nitric oxide processes. and here's my xylitol video -- hope this helps: ruclips.net/video/_q_mutp0jGM/видео.html
I will comment until you reply me : I got bad breath😢😢😢, everybody avoids me
oh no! here's a video of mine that should help: ruclips.net/video/DKNY7hB2HTc/видео.html
