Thanks for the opportunity to take part on this. This was so much fun to work on! I really cherish this project and I'm so happy to see people enjoying it!!
I see that you were a "second key animator" for this. I've never heard of that before. Is that what they call "inbetweeners" today, or is it something completely different?
@@yohannbiimu It is different! But it is what comes right before the inbetweens. Second key, or in japanese 'daini genga' is similar to a cleaning up the keyframes in the western industry. We take the Layout (rough animation) + the notes from the Sakkan (animation director) and any director's input and make a final keyframe, taking into account the movement of the character and trying to stay as faithful to the character sheet as we can (so its not just tracing). There is no homologous process in the west so 'Tiedown' pass might be it, but its what allows the Anime industry to produce a high volume of hand drawn work, in less time, and keeping the drawings consistent. The sacrifice is you need many hands on deck compared to the west when normally one animator can take their scene from beginning to end by themselves!
@@ManuMercurial Looking at the finished product it bewilders me that we haven't changed animation processes here to match the quality of hand-drawn animation in Japan and S. Korea. American animation is crap--utter garbage compared to so much of what studios are grinding out in the Far East. It's almost like quality drawing isn't even required to produce animation here anymore.
@@ManuMercurial That's so interesting - wouldn't have thought that a US (?) studio would necessarily emulate JP's division of labour, especially for an animated short, but I can totally see where the improvements lie for doing it
Thank you so much Tonari Animation for all the hardwork! as a beginner animator I learn a lot from watching your anime tutorial contents it's so helpful and great!! now your team surprise me by collabing with hololive for my oshi special day.
Absolutely loved everything about this animation. From the movements, to all the little references. The only thing I was expecting that didn't happen was when she went to hit the keyboard at the end to start her stream, I was expecting her signature "a" right when she hit the button.
Brilliant, thanks to the entire team for bringing this animation to life, and thanks for this look behind the scenes at how much work was involved in bringing this project to reality. 👍
I've watched the animation at least 10 times and I'm very impressed. Thank you very much for everyone involved's hard work. As a fan of Gura, you guys made her look as cute as she is supposed to be, so I'm happy. :)
Brilliant. I see there were so many folks involved, so big kudos to production and organizing. Really beautiful work and I hope with enough praise you get the chance to do more for them.
the animation was so good, my favorite part is her smug face trying to buy food with sand and the magical girl transformation, but there is far too much in it i love to list it all
Used to watch your guys animation videos back when you were called striving for animation. It's incredible that you guys landed a job like this now with cover. So proud of yall!
You guys ALL did amazing work here. The end result matches Gura’s vibes so well and you even captured so many pieces of the greater Holo Family. I’d love to see this type of thing for other members to really flesh out the core of their lore and serve as an introduction to them. Again, you all did amazing work on this and I’m glad to see everyone get to enjoy it💙
I love seeing these kinds of things. Seeing the storyboards and what-not, and to see little notes to draw attention to details like Irys having 2 pairs of horns or a request to draw proper teeth so Red Gura looks suitably menacing. I do wonder why the arrangement of the posters was shifted around, like how in the storyboard the Olivia missing poster was at the bottom but in the completed version it was moved to the top instead.
Thank you so much for blessing us with this animation. It really shows how much love went into this. You made something very special and I'm just one of many Shrimps that feels very grateful for your work. I hope there is more of this in the future. It is just too good to stop it here.
This was an amazing work of love and dedication, and I sincerely hope you folks get hired to make, or assist in making, a proper full length Hololive anime!
This team absolutely killed it with the animation. loved it so much! It is all way over my head, but this was awesome to watch, and in the final product, you could see all the love that went into the creation.
Massive effort and super impressed by the quality and detail dedicated towards this short. Hoping we'll get to see more like this in the future. It looks amazing
Awesome to see some behind the scenes I remember attending two of your panels at AX2022 so it's great seeing you guys work on something like this and see more of the stuff you guys were talking about at the pannels
I now want a complete Gura Anime. Use the different games shes played and collabs she’s done as real stories. The Devour Arc, the Rust Arc. It would be so good
The first time I saw it I was impressed with the level of detail, transition animations and how everything was very clean and easy to understand. Great job and congratulations to everyone involved with the project. I became a fan of the studio and I hope to see many works in the future.
I can't stop watching the animation over on Gura's channel because I love so it so much, so when I found out you guys did a behind the scenes I HAD to come over and check it out! Everyone did such a phenomenal job! Thanks for all the effort you all put in to make the coolest lore video I've ever seen!! Never would have expected a full on professional anime short but here we are and I'm grateful for it!
there were a hundred little details that made me smile and laugh, but I think my favorite was when she tried to pay for stuff with sand. It was endearing and approriate to someone who was new to the surface world! Thanks for all the love and care you put into this!!!
even whilst looking at some of the layers that add to the final picture, the huge increase in detail with each one is just astonishing, wouldn't be able to do that. haha
THANK U TONARI ANIMATIONS SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS!!! U guys are SO AWESOME I can't believe my dream of Gooba in an actual anime has come true THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!
The team behind this at Tonari should be extremely proud of what they have created for our short, smol shork! The animation was absolutely beautiful, and this behind-the-scenes was fun to watch as well. I agree with a previous commentor...full series (produced by Tonari of course) when? Even if it is just a series of 5-minute shorts versus full 30-minute episodes...
This made me realize just how many little details I missed. Haachama being the food vendor, the Olivia missing person poster, Gura's gills making a proper appearance, and of course Myth sending supportive messages...except for Ame.
I love seeing these reference sheets. I always wondered how do so many animators manage to keep a consistent style. Makes sense that all of them have a reference sheet for how the eyes should look at different distances. And all those notes we see clarifying what's going on in the seen, really cool to see what goes behind managing a team of animators.
You really deserve massive props for this. I think that there is no other person that could have done a better job here than you. I really hope that this serves as a kick starter for you and that it helps you get through to some big names in animation studios.
Thank you so much for all your work on this anime, it's so good! As a Gura fan since her debut, i can say you absolutely nailed it. Her lore anime couldn't have been any better i think. Also thank you for showing this "making of" video, i always find it interesting to see the process behind drawings and animations. It also reminds me how much work and effort must have gone into this.
Thank you so much for the behind the scenes look!!! The animation was so amazing that I want to see more, I think it would awesome if in the future we'd be able to get a "Lore" type anime on all the Myth girls and how they all came be all in one group that set up their Debuts!!!
So many people were involved in this project! Thank you for bringing Gura to life. I hope we will see more of your work with hololive related projects, you guys are very talented.
Thanks for the opportunity to take part on this. This was so much fun to work on! I really cherish this project and I'm so happy to see people enjoying it!!
Congrats! Great work, definitely top tier!

1:52 I love all the reminders for Irys' details haha. This animation was INCREDIBLE - you all absolutely killed it!!!
Thank you so much Tonari Animation for all the hardwork! as a beginner animator I learn a lot from watching your anime tutorial contents it's so helpful and great!! now your team surprise me by collabing with hololive for my oshi special day.
Thanks! That means a lot to hear! Good luck striving to improve your animation! がんばって!
Yes, I will try my best! thank you.
Hope this means more great things to come for both you and Cover as you get more exposure while Cover gets more of these amazing animation
That magical girl transformation was chefs kiss. Astounding work.
Absolutely loved everything about this animation.
From the movements, to all the little references.
The only thing I was expecting that didn't happen was when she went to hit the keyboard at the end to start her stream, I was expecting her signature "a" right when she hit the button.
The 'a' is heard in your heart.
Lol! That would've been perfect!
Brilliant, thanks to the entire team for bringing this animation to life, and thanks for this look behind the scenes at how much work was involved in bringing this project to reality. 👍
"yooo stinky whaddup"
That's Ame alright.
I want to believe that what Irys said to Gura is “please match to cut 34” 😂
I've watched the animation at least 10 times and I'm very impressed. Thank you very much for everyone involved's hard work. As a fan of Gura, you guys made her look as cute as she is supposed to be, so I'm happy. :)
3:06 this moment here was one of the cutest things. Just a kid staring into the camera. And trying to pay for food with sand.
she is not a kid.
1:34 my favorite shot in the entire vid 🥰
Man do I appreciate that note in the lower left at 1:04. Great design choice to make the teeth pop like that and really sell the ferocity of "Gawr".
Holo Lores animations will starts here.
Thanks for linking this Gura. It was a great peek behind how anime is created.
0:22 Even in storyboards, Gura has no bottom teeth
Brilliant. I see there were so many folks involved, so big kudos to production and organizing. Really beautiful work and I hope with enough praise you get the chance to do more for them.
2:39 I really love that Sailor moon reference
Ame: "yooo stinky waddup"
IM CRYING
I remember this used to be Strive for Animation. It's so cool seeing them do larger projects now
the animation was so good, my favorite part is her smug face trying to buy food with sand and the magical girl transformation, but there is far too much in it i love to list it all
02:17 The best thing about this is that we can read the messages here easier
Used to watch your guys animation videos back when you were called striving for animation. It's incredible that you guys landed a job like this now with cover. So proud of yall!
I was there too!
1:06 now thats shark teeth looks awesome love that
You guys ALL did amazing work here. The end result matches Gura’s vibes so well and you even captured so many pieces of the greater Holo Family.

1:35 that face is so perfect
Love that you guys posted your side too! So cool omg
Thank you so much for blessing us with this animation. It really shows how much love went into this.
You made something very special and I'm just one of many Shrimps that feels very grateful for your work.
I hope there is more of this in the future. It is just too good to stop it here.
Ah and thank you sooo so much for making Gura happy.
2:57 was hoping to see the derp version of that background shark like she talked about
I really appreciated the fish theme in highlights in the eyes. Even the motion of the swirling highlights gave a sense of ocean waves!
Amazing work!! すばらしいアニメーションをありがとうございました!!
This was an amazing work of love and dedication, and I sincerely hope you folks get hired to make, or assist in making, a proper full length Hololive anime!
MY GOD!!! Love the Passion you all put into this!!
My favourite part is when Gura hops on the chair and goes right off screen. Also the beeg teeth. 👍
I was blown away by this, keeping an eye out for you guys in the future
I LOVE the References you sprinkled around.
Thank you all for watching! I hope you enjoyed the behind-the-scenes video!
This was a complete surprise but I loved every second of it.
This team absolutely killed it with the animation. loved it so much! It is all way over my head, but this was awesome to watch, and in the final product, you could see all the love that went into the creation.
Team of GIGA CHADS. I KNEEL!!! Thank you so much for A++++ work. 👏🏼
The short looks fantastic, and thanks for this glimpse behind the scenes, I really enjoyed it!

Humanity has reached new standards of animation. The team did an amazing job! Everyone deserves a bonus and full compensation.
The passion to not leave any details behind even for a small second in the Irys' part got me so good! Thank you for the amazing animation!
You all did an unbelievable job! Thank you so much for this! Please be proud of yourselves, I can't overstate how great this is.
Thank you for fulfilling our shark’s dream.
I remember how happy people were during the stream. This was super hype.

And then the world they're living on is Minecraft lmao
The first time I saw it I was impressed with the level of detail, transition animations and how everything was very clean and easy to understand. Great job and congratulations to everyone involved with the project. I became a fan of the studio and I hope to see many works in the future.

Amazing work by everyone involved!
The fact that Gura's henshin sequence has a snap to pose that's postcarded is actually goated.
Thank you so much for working with our shark!!! Beautiful animation!!!
2:22 So, there's also a Green Gura. I wonder whether we'll happen to see her one day 🤔
The visual story telling is top notch. Love it.
I loved this so much. Excellent work. I hope to see more of you guys in the future!
メイキングを上げてくれてありがとうございます。

隣アニメーション最高!
you guys absolutely killed it with this congrats! And thanks for the look behind the scenes :)
I'm gonna make a pro gamer move and predict that they will hire this guy to animate the rest of holo en lore.
there were a hundred little details that made me smile and laugh, but I think my favorite was when she tried to pay for stuff with sand. It was endearing and approriate to someone who was new to the surface world! Thanks for all the love and care you put into this!!!
Great animation! Honestly the behind the scenes makes me appreciate the effort even more! Congrats to the whole team involved

even whilst looking at some of the layers that add to the final picture, the huge increase in detail with each one is just astonishing, wouldn't be able to do that. haha

She may have descended to give hope to sharky but never forget that she has an ahoge
Amazing work, the quality of it was from another world!!!
I love that you all gave her a henshin bank to start a stream so much
