Thanks so much for this video, helped a lot! BTW for people doing this, don't put too much of the liquid metal on the hinges or around it because then the plastic hinge cover that goes on top of it won't fit. Put exactly the amount you see in the video. I made the mistake of putting too much and then had to sand the liquid metal off after a few hours when it had already settled and it took me ages. I would recommend letting the liquid metal dry for a FEW minutes and then put the hinge cover on and see if it fits into place and if it doesn't just take off some of it as it would still be soft. And also make sure that that the hinges are in the right place because then the screw holes on the hinges won't align with the holes on your laptop which could cause a problem. I would also recommend you check this before the liquid metal settles in. If anyone has any question just reply to this comment and I'll help you out. Good luck :)
Excellent video. I paid a computer shop $140 to do what you did and it broke again. With your video I am redoing it myself. I am halfway through and your video is walking me through each step. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. I was able to repair the hinges on my own ZenBook with epoxy I had left over at no cost. It saved me money and set up time from not having to buy another Laptop. Make a note when disconnecting the two wires on the left of the circuit board. Connect the wire with the white band to the right main snap terminal (marked white on the IC).
Just repaired mine last night. Thanks for the video. Followed step by step and was able to get it working again. The one step I did was to loosen the hinge nuts just a bit. Less than a quarter turn and now the screen opens and closes so much easier. This should minimize the stress placed on the epoxy repaired hinges. I was certain I would have to trash the damn notebook.
Hey man. First i wanted to bring the laptop to proffesional, but then i found your video. I followed step by step and managed to make it. Everything works perfectly so far. Thank you very much ! I appreciate it.
My advice is you can apply some oil at the hinge especially at the bolt area to make it smoother. The hinge become stiffer overtime which is cause it harder to open and cause the plastic holding the hinge to broke. Sorry my bad English.🙏
Thanks for this detailed video. Did the repair on mine but could clip back the thinge cover instead of gluing it. And I've SLIGHTLY loosen the hinge nuts. Perfect video. Thanks :-)
I rarely saw a compound based fix for a broken hinge to work as long term solution. If you want to be sure the fix will hold strong, and don't mind the cosmetic look, best to drill 2mm holes throught the top or botom panel and secure it with M2 nuts and screws. For this laptop, I drilled 6 holes through the top aluminium panel. At least I know the hinge will last a long time.
We carried out almost 80 repairs as shown in the video. So far one (!) complaint, after 4 years. This procedure cannot be applied to every laptop. But in this model with goodrum two-component glue, it works
I have a 2016 (4 year old) ASUS K501UW and I had the exact same problem, the high quality metal hinges are just fine but the low end plastic they are bolted to is brittle. It's a shame for ASUS to have made such a poor design decision given that it's such an important moving part. I fixed it using an epoxy-resin mix solution like you have shown (Araldite Standard Epoxy Adhesive). I would like to inform anyone else trying to find a fix that the epoxy fix is only temporary. Mine held strong for 3-4 months after which I had to redo the procedure (which also lasted for 4 months). But this might be due to the brand that I have used. You have been warned.
I was just lecturing my nephew about his broken hinge on his laptop recently, about always opening it at the center of the lid. He broke his left side one once before and i epoxy glued it back. It failed again, but surprisingly the previous work held and it was the other side. And then... Today it happened on my personal device lol. damn it.
Is there any suggestion on what I can do if the plastic on both sides is missing/completely destroyed? I have all the screws and inserts, but I have nothing to hook them too. Great video, thank you.
Thanks !! I repaired my laptop hinges twice but finally decided to buy new parts on Aliexpress. Do you know what type of screw it uses in the part that is fixed to the screen?
Great video i am doing one off these exact laptops at the moment but i decided to order a new back screen panel as i have used this method before and unfortunately it only lasted around 2 months, the annoying thing is these are expensive laptops and this is a known problem the manufacturer should make the whole back panel off the screen in some kind off lite metal such as aluminium. plastic just goes brittle and breaks.
Sir, what is that process from 4:11 to 6:31 ? Is it that, you are using some rotary filing buff or something to remove the residue plastics off of the metal base ??? Please clarify. It is indeed the best reference video I found on youtube. Thanks for sharing !
Hi. Yes, you are right. It’s a a small drill machine used to remove the old glue, and a little deform the surface to keep the new glue better. There is not so much space for the glue between the housing and hinge. Thx for review.
I am having the same issue with my Asus model K501lx. I think I should be able to use the same logic and step as you showed. Do you have any experience with the K501lx model? Thanks in advanced. This is a very good instruction video.
FIXstudio success. I only had one hinge broken where the casing for the inner most screw anchor was still usable. So I aligned off that and eyeballed it straight. It worked! Thank you for a good guide.
Hello, excellent video, it was a big help in fixing my Zenbook! Please, I can't get this song out of my head! Could you please let me know what it is? Thanks!
Hi! My hinges broke a few days ago and your tutorial is great, I'll be trying to repair my computer in the coming days. Just two questions: - Did you repair/replace the broken plastic at 3:13 or did you just use glue? - Did you use the old hinges or did you buy new ones? Thanks.
The half of the black plastic piece behind one of the hinges on mine broke into tiny pieces. What would you suggest I use to replace it or build it up?
Excellent video, thank you very much! However, how long is the fix going to last? I've heard it can break anywhere around the hinges. What a shame they produce such a purely designed laptop!
Thanks a lot for your video!!! I'd like to try to fix mine. However I didn't really understand the step starting at 4:10, is this like plastic injection? How much do you think it would cost me to get a device like yours?
Thanks for the URL. Your video is very informative. I will try your method to fix my Zenbook. I didn't find a place online to buy TURBOCOLL 2000 TURBO MIX liquid metal. Do you think, this is strong enough as compared to TURBOCOLL? tinyurl.com/yd3tjste
can I use any epoxy, i.e gorilla 2 part or what have you seen as the epoxy that will keep this strong. the name or ;ink for the epoxy u used. I see parts of it but cant find it. thanks. also my hinges broke away from the plastic, that connects the hinge to the plastic on the screen, thanks again Greg
thanks for this video and did help a lot the hings are great now but i think i did something wrong..! when i took off the broken hings there was 2 thin wires that should be contacted to the motherboard somehow those 2 wires broke and since than there is no screen display its totally dead,, :( is it because of those 2 thin wires that broke made this display issue or do i miss something, ? hope u have some tips to help me out..thanks again for the great video! be waiting to your reply
Hi. The two thin wires tt's probably an antenna from wifi. You notebook should be work without it. Try to post some picture of the situation, may i be able to help you...
Thanks so much for willing to help i will send some picture later tonight or tomorrow, actually i have 2 of this brand (Asus UX303LA) and both of them has almost the same display screen issue . one with the repaired broken hings no display screen at all as like we last spoke and I am almost sure this one has motherboard issue cause i connected the motherboard via HDMI to a monitor but no signal ..??! as for the other laptop the screen does power on but the display is very wick like missing the brightness and can hardly see, /?..i tried shift+f5 or +f6 but no changes :( wish i have any idea why this happened as all the wires on the motherboard are perfectly contacted , thanks again for reading about my poor laptops wish you can know or advice me what to do.
FIXstudio FIXstudio hello There.. i'm having the same problem that him. No imagen after i repair the hings. The lights are on, the micro processor turn on but no images, even BIOS. Please tell something i can check to resolve the problem. Thanks. Sebastián.
@@fixstudioTV ...Indeed. I'm ordering the lid cover however I do believe that I'll reinforce the plastic area where the hinges screw in, as I re-assemble. Thx!
I got mine sent to the worker about 6 monts ago, they charged me so much and somehow ruined the ability to connect my laptop to internet. Any advices??
They broke your wifi cable or not connected it properly to the antenne. Open the cover and find the wifi antenne connector and check whether is connected properly to the motherboard. If the cable is ok, just push it firmly to the motherboard and it will work again. If it's broken just buy an usb wifi adapter, maybe cheaper than repairing the cable.
Hi, I repaired my hinges this way which worked great, however I didnt disconnect the battery before working on it and now it wont start (no chargin light either, no boot attempt or anything), does anyone have an idea what this could be?
What a piece of shit laptop. They tried copying the MacBook. I have the UX303LN, which has the Nvidia dGPU, which means it will blow out more hot air more often towards the plastic hingel What a stupid design. Thanks for the video. Are the screws under the non-sliding rubber pads the same as the main screws on the base of the laptop?

Thanks for the excellent video. Very easy to follow. Just finished fixing my hinges and had no problems thanks to this video.
Thank you so much! I followed your i instructions and my laptop is fixed! It looked exactly like the one in the video (left hinge destroyed).
Great job mate, I'm sure you 've helped lots of people with this vid. I mended my Asus yesterday and all is perfect. Many thanks!!
Thank you so much! Just fixed my laptop hinge. It works great
Fantastic Video and life saving help! I followed it to the letter on my Asus UX303LN, took me a few hours and total success! Thanks so much, man!

Awesome guide, thank you so much for this. Those wifi connectors are hellish!! :)
I almost destroyed one during the repair. :-) But I solved somehow, it was a though job, because it's so tiny.
Thanks for this detailed video. Did the repair on mine but could clip back the thinge cover instead of gluing it. And I've SLIGHTLY loosen the hinge nuts.

I assumed you fixed your laptop without the use of any glue? I was wondering the same thing and wasn't sure about the glue.

Hi. Search it on eBay or AliExpress: “hinges cover” or similar.

thanks, why was the middle panel not replaced though? )
My hinge just snapped in four months with gentle use. ASUS notebook X420U. They call it damage/not covered. I call it defect.
Great tuto, still holding?

Just a question, but are you driving the new screws right into the dried-up epoxy, right?
No, you’re not need the screws
may epoxy glue cause melt down lid's plastic ?
Are you using the same hinges again??
Yes
Thanks for the tutorial! Will attempt this on my laptop soon.
Is there any other product similar to TURBOCOLL 2000 TURBO that I can use, since I cant seem to find it anywhere
Hi. Use any other two component epoxy like "Liquide metal". Good luck!
Worked great for my laptop too. Thanks!
so i can only reattach the plastic hinge cover with glue?
Yes, or replace the cover
I am having the same issue with my Asus model K501lx. I think I should be able to use the same logic and step as you showed. Do you have any experience with the K501lx model?
Thanks in advanced. This is a very good instruction video.
Muchas gracias por tu ayuda, me sirvió para repara mi ASUS, si te puedo colaborar en algo sólo avísame, saludos. Carlos.

What did you do to make sure the hinges aligned with the bottom part of the laptop when glued?
Good question. You must compare it several times with the bottom case, before it hardens. It need a little patience and practice.
FIXstudio success. I only had one hinge broken where the casing for the inner most screw anchor was still usable. So I aligned off that and eyeballed it straight. It worked! Thank you for a good guide.

Hi. Jus be patient and do it slowly. It was just glue, and old hinge. God luck.
@@fixstudioTV Thanks =)
Thank you for this video, it's really helpful!
you're welcome
The half of the black plastic piece behind one of the hinges on mine broke into tiny pieces. What would you suggest I use to replace it or build it up?
Build it up with a glue.
What size torx driver did you use for the outside screws? None of mine fit and I want to make sure i get the right size.
T5
Excellent video, thank you very much! However, how long is the fix going to last? I've heard it can break anywhere around the hinges. What a shame they produce such a purely designed laptop!
+Mickey Mouse I fixed in the lest 2 years definitely more as 50s ux31, ux32 and ux303, and I can’t remember eine one why’s returned to me on warranty
The asus ux303 hinges are adjusted to tight. If you won't adjust hinges before fitting them, the problem will reocur. That's my experience.
you right!
Thanks a lot for your video!!! I'd like to try to fix mine. However I didn't really understand the step starting at 4:10, is this like plastic injection? How much do you think it would cost me to get a device like yours?
Hi. I used a small milling machine to remove the old glue... On eBay you get it for $20-30
great thank you very much!!
Can you please post a URL for the milling machine? I can't seem to find any milling machine for $20-$30.
Sure. Try on aliexpress: "mini drill" / goo.gl/62yqJH

where did you get this plastic part? Or how you made it?
Hi. What plastic part you mean?
that you glue to the display cover and then screw on the hinge.
can I use any epoxy, i.e gorilla 2 part or what have you seen as the epoxy that will keep this strong. the name or ;ink for the epoxy u used. I see parts of it but cant find it. thanks. also my hinges broke away from the plastic, that connects the hinge to the plastic on the screen, thanks again Greg
Use arbitrary two component strong glue. In Germany it is called "liquid metal glue" and it's real strong. Good luck! :)
thanks a barn......
I can fix it, to avoid the same problem in the future .....I loosened the nut....

wifi antennas

It’s Dremel
Hello, from where did you buy/acquire these replacement hinges?
Also, why are you mixing the liquid metal glues? That seems interesting...
For 99% you don't need to bay the hinges. The Problem ist on the casing. Look on vide one mor time...
