Later in my career, I was training Managers, Directors, and Associate Deputy Minister in a very specific fielding and received an award for my services. I have an incomplete bachelor's degree, but many years of experience as a conversational trainor, language teacher or facilitator. Do you think I would be a favorable candidate?
I'm in the same situation, minus the experience (only one-year teaching for an association) If you don't have an FLE or a Bachelor's degree you can still be taken as a tutor (as opposed to a teacher), or based on your experience. But the safest bet would be to enroll for a TEFL certification. It's gonna be much easier than FLE or going back to university just for a diploma. Go for a cheap and fast one that's accredited with around 180 hours. Anything less than 120 hours is never considered by the authorities.
I have been teaching on Preply WITH A DEGREE plus a TEFL certification for the last two months. It is by NO MEANS aa easy as the girl here makes it sound as there are constantly potential students who keep contacting tutors, either book trial lessons or not and kust hover about doing nothing in the long run - there many last minute cancellations, many problems with adults who start and then stop for no apparent reason and so on... Preply should take care to discard those from the beginning as thwy take up valuable time and energy from us all. That is all for starters...
"the girl here" has been doing it since November now and those things aren't as big of a deal as you're making out, at least not in my experience :) yes I've had people reach out and then not book a lesson - so what? Yes, I've had people cancel last minute sometimes - again, so what? And out of my 8 regular students, 2 have stopped lessons since January - and? I could just take on new students if I wanted to.

I'd switch to italki (I don't teach/work for them...yet) as tutors at PrePly aren't paid for the first lesson and aren't notified if a student has cancelled. I take lessons and taught (note taught as I quit) on Preply and it's frustrating. Some tutors are really good and a ton are who knows where from. I found a Spanish teacher and we study and pay directly and use Zoom. And their support is AWFUL. Good luck geting an answer in one attempt and in 5 days.
Yes the first lesson is frustrating! But I don’t have any issues with their support they usually reply same day and answer my questions :) I also always get emails if a lesson is moved or cancelled
Hello trouble Great to see you back, well you know I'm from Scotland, I don't think this is for me, I have a hard enough time people from England understanding me nevermind people needing to learn English Hahaha would be funny though! How about I teach you Scottish hahahaa great video once again 👍
Do you find the lessons go quite smoothly or do you ever find it’s awkward? Something I might consider trying as I only speak English but really loved English at school
Mostly smooth :) but some students are more awkward than others and need more propping and generally talk a bit less. Some of them I ask a question and off they go for like 10-15 mins haha. I definitely recommend :)
Thanks, the video is very helpful! So I find teaching 1 hour too long and I see trial lessons are 1 hour. Can trial lessons be shorter, is there anyway around this?
Just had a look at the site, there are 100's of people that are charging £1.56 to £2.34 an hour for lessons, i'm confused, why are people charging such low prices, and how, as a beginner are you supposed to charge a reasonable rate?
Because most of those people live in third world countries and don’t really speak great english :) I’ve had a couple of my students try those “teachers”!
Hi Anna, as you were going through the platform it looked like there were set lessons depending on the student. Can you choose your own material or is it all pre-planned via the site? Thank you for the video!
Hi, how are you? Thank you for the video. I had a student, 12 y.o. girl. She didn't want to study English. Do you know what to do in such kind of cases. Thank you in advance.
Hi great video! I was wondering how I can turn my account off from being live! I currently have many students and they are finding it hard to book in time.
I have heard of preply before! sounds like a good platform, i know you can teach just about anything on there. I teach on cambly and love the flexibility. What is the cancellation policy like for students?
I will try it one day too! They can cancel within 4 hours, but technically they can just not turn up and not confirm the lesson and you won’t get paid! That’s a bit annoying. What’s it like on Cambly?
@@pandabossanna If students don't show up, go to “my lessons” on your dashboard. Click the drop-down on the student’s name. Then on your right, you will see 3 dots, click that and then click “charge student”. You might have to follow up with support after 72 hours if the funds haven't been released to you.
Wow I didn't think you would be a English teacher on preply, I use it for Arabic, they're a good website. Can I book a session with you but instead have a lesson about trading haha?😂
Hey I applied to Preply and multiple times I had to re-apply improving my photo, description and video. This time I got an email for the first time saying my Preply application was rejected. When I login on Preply it says my application is being reviewed and that they'll get back to me in 5 business days. I applied a month ago or something. What should I do? Thank you.
If you don't get accepted just try again from a different email. I had some difficulties with all steps,I reciently loged in again and now it saya they will get back to me. 🤷♀️
Hey there! I’m new at Preply and I have a very simple questions. As duration of one class is 60 min. how do I get to prepare for the next one if I have two or more classes in a row? Thanks!
@@pandabossanna Even with two classes in a row I’d still be late or have to finish the class earlier for 1 - 3 min. is that right? And if so, are students okay with that?
@@zokheedcovers I don't finish earlier or later really, no more than 1 minute either side :) just need to manage time well. Noone has ever complained about 1 minute here or there, usually I will tell the second person I will be about 1 minute late if I know I have a lesson beforehand. But it's one of those things where some lessons finish a couple mins early and some run over so it all comes out in the wash :)
Good morning because it's already dawn time. Question you say that you don't have a degree. You also share on your video that you have a TOEFL certificate. My question is. If I don't have a degree nor a TOEFL certificate I'll get the chance anyways of teaching on Preply? I have 15 years experience as an English teacher. Hope to hear from you soon.
Hello ! Does preply requires the candidate to be holding of a bachelor's degree ? Do I have to be a native English speaker in order to be hired ? I'd be so grateful if you answered me..
I think your first question is answered in the title of the video… and no you don’t have to be native but you might struggle to get students if you don’t have a British or US accent
I face an issue in filling the form. After uploading picture preply says that threre was an error. Please try again later. I've tried many times issue still exist what should I do??
Hey😀👋🏽 Please help, how did you go about getting students on preply I’m finding it hard cause whenever I try to contact students it says limit reached so how can I be able to contact them before they reach their limit.Thank you 😀
@@pandabossanna hey so a student set up a customised course of topics from the learning plans library. What does it mean and what do I do form here? Thank you❤️😄
Write a cover letter in your native language? You mean your second language? And yes it might go against the grain of the course but the course isn’t gospel. I disagreed with a few things in the course.
It can be used from tablet/phone but you'd struggle to use their lessons. They don't test internet speed but again it's difficult without good speed as you have to do video calls :)
This is really cool actually, I might give it a go myself! How have you found doing it with everything else going on in your life? It goes to show it can be done I guess! Thanks for sharing Anna! 😀
Haha, it's not easy by any means! But it's a stable side income, so it does get prioritised. I just set my hours and don't plan anything else for those times
If every first lesson with a tutor is free, how often can a student take a free lesson on the platform? I'd image new tutors are over run with students trying you out for size and not actually sighing up.
The student pays for the lesson, but Preply keeps 100% of it for the first lesson. It's mostly so that if a student doesn't like you, they can try with another tutor without paying again :)
@@pandabossanna Thank you for the response, I miss understood. I assumed the students didn't pay for a trial lesson either. Thank for clearing that up for me. But I still wouldn't be interested in working for preply because of this.
Hahahahahaha!! I mean, how many lessons they already had with different tutors, the level that they’re going to complete, and how many lessons they had in total.
@@geovani.santos haha nothing about previous lessons, they are meant to take a placement test beforehand so you know what level they are at. nothing about where they are from or age, as that's completely irrelevant and private.

Thanks, the video is very helpful! So I find teaching 1 hour too long and I see trial lessons are 1 hour. Can trial lessons be shorter, is there anyway around this?
Unfortunately not:(
Just had a look at the site, there are 100's of people that are charging £1.56 to £2.34 an hour for lessons, i'm confused, why are people charging such low prices, and how, as a beginner are you supposed to charge a reasonable rate?
Because most of those people live in third world countries and don’t really speak great english :) I’ve had a couple of my students try those “teachers”!
Hi Anna, as you were going through the platform it looked like there were set lessons depending on the student. Can you choose your own material or is it all pre-planned via the site? Thank you for the video!
The students can choose topics they are interested in, but the main material is all the same for each student :) you just go by what level they are at
@@pandabossanna Thank you!
@@pandabossanna how do you know what level they are at? Xx
Hi. Did you find that your Tefl experience was especially useful, or do you think one could do this without any training ? Thanks
You could if you know all about the english grammar structures and 13 tenses, but most platforms will want proof of certificates
Do you need the tefl qualitification to teach on this platform. Thanks
Please could you tell me if it’s hard or easy enough to find students ? And Hiw you go about it
Very helpful, thank you 😊
Glad to hear it!
Wait, so one day when I'm able to pay for a TEFL course, I will be taught not to use the student's native language?
Yes :)
Hi colleague!! I also teach on Preply :) I love it and I find you pretty cute!!
great vid thanks
Thank you
Hi, how are you? Thank you for the video. I had a student, 12 y.o. girl. She didn't want to study English. Do you know what to do in such kind of cases. Thank you in advance.
I would say you need to contact the parents
Hi great video! I was wondering how I can turn my account off from being live! I currently have many students and they are finding it hard to book in time.
There’s a setting somewhere in calendar that you can stop being visible to new students! Do the Live Chat if you cant find it :)
@@amandlakhumalo4728 ohh, I didn't realise you could charge for it?!
What's the difference between TEFL and CELTA? If you know
Not sure to be honest! CELTA is more expensive 😂
Wow I didn't think you would be a English teacher on preply, I use it for Arabic, they're a good website. Can I book a session with you but instead have a lesson about trading haha?😂
Hahaha unfortunately not 😅😅
This preply app was randomly found on my phone. It comes from ukraine.
Thank you.
That's strange! I would drop them an email, but honestly it took me ages to get accepted too!
If you don't get accepted just try again from a different email.
I had some difficulties with all steps,I reciently loged in again and now it saya they will get back to me. 🤷♀️
I have a bachelor's degree and am in the midst of doing the online TEFL course. But is prior teaching experience required to teach on preply?
No it isn’t :)
@@pandabossanna Thank you kindly for the info.
Pretty women get booked more than the guys, absolute fact.. if you're a half decent looking female then you normally do okay on these websites.
Do you need TEFL to improve your teaching and get more students?
Yeah I would say so :)
Hey there! I’m new at Preply and I have a very simple questions. As duration of one class is 60 min. how do I get to prepare for the next one if I have two or more classes in a row? Thanks!
Either dont book classes in a row or prep before they start :) I never have more than 2 lessons in a row without a break in between
@@pandabossanna Even with two classes in a row I’d still be late or have to finish the class earlier for 1 - 3 min. is that right? And if so, are students okay with that?
@@pandabossanna or is there a way of starting classes earlier? Say for 10 min?
@@zokheedcovers I don't finish earlier or later really, no more than 1 minute either side :) just need to manage time well. Noone has ever complained about 1 minute here or there, usually I will tell the second person I will be about 1 minute late if I know I have a lesson beforehand. But it's one of those things where some lessons finish a couple mins early and some run over so it all comes out in the wash :)
@@pandabossanna Alright, I see. Thanks a bunch! ☺️
They do provide all the lesson materials? I read online that they didn't. Are all lessons 1 hour long?
Yep and yep
@@pandabossanna cool thanks!
I think so, yes :)
@@pandabossanna Good morning.
Thank you so very much for your answer it helps me a lot.
See I live in the state of Mexico.
@@pandabossanna didn't notice the title 😂 my bad! Anyway thank you so much
I face an issue in filling the form.
After uploading picture preply says that threre was an error. Please try again later.
I've tried many times issue still exist what should I do??
Contact their support
@@pandabossanna How ??
@@pandabossanna How could I contact their support ??

You have a very beautiful eyes
Hello, are you an individual or an organization? My baby is over 3 years old and wants to learn enlightenment English. Can you teach it? thank you!
3 is too young for what I teach I’m afraid
@@pandabossanna
Hey😀👋🏽
Please help, how did you go about getting students on preply
I’m finding it hard cause whenever I try to contact students it says limit reached so how can I be able to contact them before they reach their limit.Thank you 😀
I never contacted students, they found me through my profile and booked lessons :)
Okay let me wait and see then
Thank you 😀
@@pandabossanna hey so a student set up a customised course of topics from the learning plans library.
What does it mean and what do I do form here?
Thank you❤️😄
If you make a video on preply, and you don't like it anymore can you change it?
Do you mean the tutor intro? I have no idea to be honest
@@pandabossanna yes :) is possible to change it after some time?
1 free hour for each student? 33% commission? Wow! Higher than any App out there.
Yeah it's quite high! I'm about to start testing out Cambly to see how it compares
Write a cover letter in your native language? You mean your second language? And yes it might go against the grain of the course but the course isn’t gospel. I disagreed with a few things in the course.
Does Preply test your internet speed as part of the sign-up process? Can it be used from a tablet or phone, or only with a laptop?
It can be used from tablet/phone but you'd struggle to use their lessons. They don't test internet speed but again it's difficult without good speed as you have to do video calls :)
@@pandabossanna Thank yo for your reply! How did the process take to become a teacher on the site?
Are you still on preply? And how many attempts or how long did it take you to get approved
No I mostly teach privately now, and just one :)
@@pandabossanna amazing! Love your videos keep up the great work💕
This is really cool actually, I might give it a go myself! How have you found doing it with everything else going on in your life? It goes to show it can be done I guess! Thanks for sharing Anna! 😀
Haha, it's not easy by any means! But it's a stable side income, so it does get prioritised. I just set my hours and don't plan anything else for those times
Hello! Are you still with this company? I heard good things and bad things. I just wanted to check in and see how the platform is after a year.
Yes I am :) I think they need a lot more kids content but otherwise they’re pretty good
Can you teach me English i want to learn
Can I teach on preply via mobile phone as I don't have a laptop or pc?
Not really
If every first lesson with a tutor is free, how often can a student take a free lesson on the platform? I'd image new tutors are over run with students trying you out for size and not actually sighing up.
The student pays for the lesson, but Preply keeps 100% of it for the first lesson. It's mostly so that if a student doesn't like you, they can try with another tutor without paying again :)
@@pandabossanna Thank you for the response, I miss understood. I assumed the students didn't pay for a trial lesson either. Thank for clearing that up for me. But I still wouldn't be interested in working for preply because of this.
@@carolinehannam4852 no problem at all :) and yeah it was a bit off putting - I still need to try Cambly but haven't had time yet
How can we connect zoom with preply?
I don’t think you can
what is the website you are using for english lessons?
I said it in the video and in the title :) Preply
you made £300 over two months? How many hours did you teach? I would have expected more.
Remember the first lesson with each student you dont get paid for! Plus they start off with a ridiculously high commission
Do u need a PayPal for this or u can use a mastercard?
I'm not sure, I use paypal
doing free trials is bad enough, but making them an hour long is criminal in my opinion. Not really sure how thats legal.
It’s my main problem with it :(
Do you teach Polish as well?
Unfortunately I dont! My Polish isn’t at a good enough level to teach it
Hello, what kind of information the tutors can have about the students?
what do you mean? nothing except their name lol
Hahahahahaha!! I mean, how many lessons they already had with different tutors, the level that they’re going to complete, and how many lessons they had in total.
And also, where they came from, age, etc.
@@geovani.santos haha nothing about previous lessons, they are meant to take a placement test beforehand so you know what level they are at. nothing about where they are from or age, as that's completely irrelevant and private.
All right, thanks @Panda Boss.
Kindly share your Preply profile link. I am not abke to search u there.
I'm not taking on new students at the moment :)
how long it takes they accept your profile tand do tutor live on preply
It took over a month for me
@@pandabossanna ok on web its written 5 to 7 Business Days ok i was worried now it seems it takes more than a week thanks
