    Nice side hustle Anna. I use italki to teach Welsh as one of my 11 streams of income. They only take 15% commission and you can sign up to just do conversation lessons if you like. No prep then! Thanks a million Anna - as we say in Ireland! Just starting out in this new venture as I have recently retired and Home Alone with my cat!! I will sign up for a TEFL course to give me more confidence, as I have never teached before and hopefully I will be accepted by Preply - the hardest part! What I really liked about your 2 videos that I have watched so far, is your total honesty and frankness in helping me to decide - nothing ventured nothing gained! I wish you every success for the future. My only negative comment is in you using that horrible word "BASICALLY" too often - it should be taken out of the English language as it's basically NAFF and has no real meaning - SORRY!

    I speak, write and read in both French and English fluently. I worked as a substitute language teacher for a while at the High school level and as a immersion language teacher at preschool and elementary levels. Later in my career, I was training Managers, Directors, and Associate Deputy Minister in a very specific fielding and received an award for my services. I have an incomplete bachelor's degree, but many years of experience as a conversational trainor, language teacher or facilitator. Do you think I would be a favorable candidate?

    • @keith6293
      @keith6293 2 года назад

      I'm in the same situation, minus the experience (only one-year teaching for an association)
      If you don't have an FLE or a Bachelor's degree you can still be taken as a tutor (as opposed to a teacher), or based on your experience.
      But the safest bet would be to enroll for a TEFL certification. It's gonna be much easier than FLE or going back to university just for a diploma.
      Go for a cheap and fast one that's accredited with around 180 hours. Anything less than 120 hours is never considered by the authorities.

  • @english14s

    I have been teaching on Preply WITH A DEGREE plus a TEFL certification for the last two months. It is by NO MEANS aa easy as the girl here makes it sound as there are constantly potential students who keep contacting tutors, either book trial lessons or not and kust hover about doing nothing in the long run - there many last minute cancellations, many problems with adults who start and then stop for no apparent reason and so on... Preply should take care to discard those from the beginning as thwy take up valuable time and energy from us all. That is all for starters...

    • @pandabossanna
      @pandabossanna  3 года назад +16

      "the girl here" has been doing it since November now and those things aren't as big of a deal as you're making out, at least not in my experience :) yes I've had people reach out and then not book a lesson - so what? Yes, I've had people cancel last minute sometimes - again, so what? And out of my 8 regular students, 2 have stopped lessons since January - and? I could just take on new students if I wanted to.

    I am thinking about starting to teach english online as I find my job is taking up too much of my time. Thank you for the insight to Preply, I will definitely check it out. I did an online TEFL course but I don't have a degree, so this is so helpful. I heard of italkie too, I like that you get your lessson prep with Preply, as lesson planning can be quite time consuming. I thougt english to a people speaking my own language(slovak😊) in person, and I found someone through facebook once that I taught online but unfortunately they always dropped out due to work commitment or other situations. I wonder what's like to teach someone that doesn't speak your native language, but who knows, maybe I can find someone from Slovakia or Czech Republic on Preply😊
    Just wondering if there are any controversial topics included in the lesson prep? And what happpens, if for example you don't get through all the prepped material for one lesson? Can you also adjust lessons to student needs, for example if they need to go over something again?
