As a white guy, except for the games, it is EXACTLY like that! Good food, GREAT people. The cookouts/parties my wife and I get invited to, we're more than likely the only white people there. But, we are family. We are tight. Sure, the black folks give us shit about being white. And we do the same to them. Some of the best times I've had was eating good BBQ, visiting, and cracking jokes on on each other. Best part is, no one gets offended. It's just a DAMN good time!!

For anyone not familiar with Spades, IF, at anytime during the match, someone takes 8 books by themself, the match is won. The other players can be up by 300 or 400 points, my matches last till 500 points, but you take 8 books... You just won and you better hope and pray you didn't just deal the cards!

I mean he's looking and sounding frantic!.. I pull over to the side of the highway as fast as I can without smashing our heads against the windshield... he's pulling up his shirt and picking at his stomach... I dunno what the hell is going on but, I perceive it to be 'not good'... I'm asking "what's wrong?"... "You OK?"... and he looks at me and says.. ingrown hair.. I take a moment to think about that.. I'v had an ingrown hair before, and it suddenly attacks without warning.. but... him having all that tight curly hair and so on.. what pops out of my mouth???... "That must be a racial hazard!"... we both laughed so hard we were immobile on the side of the highway for a good 5 mins before I felt composed enough to drive again... yes, we can actually make racial jokes, and laugh together over them, when it comes from the right spirit... this vid embodies that ideal... that said, as I saw in a comment below.. you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO follow up with the fish fry vid.. PLEASE!!!

In my experience a first time guest will be SERVED, as it is a way to show welcome. I also believe they suspected he would be uncomfortable, and thus went out of their way to make him feel welcomed. Please let me know how accurate my thoughts on this are.
It's weird that only black and latin people only seem to know how to play spades. I got locked up when I was 13 for some nonsense and in the few months I was there, my black friends taught me how to play spades. I'm 34 now and it's still my favorite card game, right ahead of Texas Hold 'Em. You gotta have a good partner though where you kinda read each other's minds and know when to feed each other the cards you need.
When I was 17 my friends and I used to hang out on the army base in Savannah, Ga and one night a bunch of them had to do some guard duty on the flight line and they had a mobile home they used by the runway where they had bunks to nap and sleep and they’d play cards a lot. That particular night there were a couple of our friends who were white and every other guy was black so they decided to teach us how to play spades. Well they did and we had a blast but that was about 30 years ago and to this day I still love playing spades! So I have to thank them all for that
