What helped me after decluttering, is no more buying junk. No more synthetic fibers. It’s like wearing a plastic bag. And quality made shoes. It really makes a difference. Your feet will thank you. I also quit buying fast fashion.

@@cleaningwithkarrie2296 you’re doing great going to thrift stores. I also buy from PoshMark. You can find everything there. I haven’t used threadup but it seems like a cheaper option then buying new.
I agree with this 100% I still shop at the same stores, target, gap, tjmaxx but, now I only buy certain materials because I know some make me feel hot, itchy, doesn't wash well. Or yeah it's cute and on sale but, do I have space I'm willing to take up for it or is there something else I already have that serves the same purpose and I don't love as much? Same goes for home decor! Not only does it keep my space feeling better in my eyes but, it has saved me a good chunk of money!
I’ve done the same. I’m a lot more intentional about my purchases now too. I really love the feeling of tencel/organic cotton blends and found TenTree clothing which is local to me. I love their t-shirts so I only buy their shirts and the odd Lululemon, I do spend $40 CDN on a tshirt that I know I’ll love rather than another brand.
You look so good! How you can stay fabulous while cleaning and decluttering, I’ll never know! I turn into a hot mess when I get going! Love your videos so much.
I’ve even been decluttering my fall and Christmas decor! It’s crazy how many items I no longer use, that I’ve been hanging on to!

PS. did you know that having someone in the room with you while you try to complete a hard task has a fancy name? it’s called “body doubling” and it works SO well for me too! 😂 otherwise i get so distracted and jump from one thing to the next without finishing anything, lol.

And it can be easier too, when you have a friend, sister or Mama because if they hold the things (instead of you) that you have a sentimental attachment to it helps to make it easier to let go of those things.
But they gotta be honest and cut-throat too. For instance, I like taking my Mama shopping with me because she will tell me straight outta the dressing room, No I don't like that on you. Keeps it from even coming into my house. Things are always being used up, getting well used to then broken or we have a future use/ need, decluttering is a constant.

Good job Karrie! You did great! I also have a hard time getting rid of stuff so I agree with you to get a family member or friend to help who may not have a connection to your stuff and they can help declutter.

I love to thrift clothing as well so I try to have a one in, one out rule. The exception to it is if I find a gap in my wardrobe.

we declutter once a year and whatever toys, clothes, shoes....we just donate them to the homeless or a free Facebook site that I'm a member of. We do the same with food that we bought but haven't ate and probly won't eat..😁👍

Hi Karrie! I enjoyed your video so much! I wish it was longer. 😝 I love these types of videos. I see we have a lot in common. I totally agree with cleaning your house first, then declutter. That’s exactly what I do. It’s always nice to declutter with someone to! I also have a wide foot and love all the rhinestone etc. sandals. As far as for me, they are so cute and pretty, but not comfortable at all on my feet. Your sister in laws name is Makayla? Sorry if it is spelled wrong. Karrie: I have done the same thing. If I go and order some new items online or if I go shopping unexpectedly. It really helps to go through your clothes before you put the new things away. I also find it helps if I take a double take on things and make sure that I am going to wear them. If I don't think I'm going to wear it "ever" then out it goes. You'll be surprised how much you will get rid of that you didn't think you would. One thing I noticed, it appears you hang up t-shirts. I know its easier, but if you fold them up and place them in a drawer you will actually have more room in the closet to hand jeans, sweatshirts, jackets and more bulky items. As you know bulky items can really take up a lot of room where a t-shirt doesn't. A trick I did this last time I cleaned out my closet was I got rid of all the unused clothes hangers. That way I don't have any hangers to hang a bunch of items up that I'm not going to wear.
Karrie, where do you donate your stuff? I like to donate the things we don't need anymore to a local church we have that gives back to the surrounding community. I do that every spring & fall - - keeps my closets from overflowing with clothing my daughter has outgrown! Win-win.... : )

We need to remember that decluttering is a luxury. Everytime you go to buy a new top, decor piece think how many hours you work to work to pay for it. I'm guilty of buying fast fashion and decor, too. Less is more.

Declutter videos always get me so motivated! I'm a minimalist living in a tiny house. I just went through my closet and got rid of a Walmart bag full of clothes.

I don’t have any family or friends to come over and help me. I mean literally nobody. I’m in South Carolina. My mom is in Florida, my dad in North Carolina, and my sister in Tennessee. I have no friends. It would sure help if I had somebody though.

It really is crazy how quickly things accumulate!! You got rid of a ton. Having somewhere there to help can def help with keeping you motivated and focused. Lol! Glad to hear it isn't a ghost in the house...crazy how you hit the hardware on the cabinet just right to do that.

Great video Karrie! I never get a chance to comment bc you'd always have me off the couch while watching, getting things done! I'm afraid that if I stop to comment, I'm stuck on the couch again, and my cleaning will slow down or completely stop! It was sweet to invite your mom over to keep you company, as she made your declutter fun! I wish I had my mom to call to keep me company, so cherish those moments, please? I invited my daughter to help me once, and a valuable suitcase, with name brand purses, a very expensive shawl, and my best costume jewelry ended up in donation!! I didnt notice it was gone until a few months later, when there was something I wanted to wear, and I couldnt find that suitcase!!!! UGGHHH! (🤬It STILL hurts!!) Okay... I just donated a trash bag full of stuff and 3 small boxes full ( all I had was 3 small boxes). I had spent all week going through stuff and Friday I had my two older boys go through their stuff and I go through my two younger boys because if I don't then they want to keep everything. I am still trying to get my husband on board with getting rid of stuff he doesn't use.
I am right with you. Stuff accumulates at lightening speed. Especially the more children you have (we have 7) and when they go through growth spurts etc

Karrie, I am so with you!!! I clean out my closet all the time and it doesn't take long at all and it's right back where it was!! 🤣 No judgement from me!!! I'm trying to just do better at going thru it more regularly but it's hard!
I love declutter videos but I always hope to see things that can't be sold or donated be discarded while watching them as they're for me the hardest things to declutter, mostly clothes and nice paper clutter like magazines, fashion catalogs/flyers.

I’m just starting to do this! Just have the kitchen to do. Where does all this stuff come from??? Do you have any cloths yet??
Karrie just an idea to help with the drawers, fold the jeans in 3rds and instead of laying them down stand them up. With sweats roll them you can fit more in the drawers. It keeps you from having to dig for what you want you can see them all and it keeps the others folded neatly and organized.

I only allow myself a certain number of hangers. Something new comes in, something old has to go out!

Set limits mine is 10 example 10 shirts 10 jackets 10 bottoms like jeans shorts leggings only 10 10 pair shoes boots joggers thongs sandals etc so to socks only 10 and undies 10 so on and so on 10 dresses it’s easy limit is 10
