Actually, in the recent patch, the big swig has gotten a damage buff from 30 to 35. Making it a 3 hit instead of a 4 hit. I agree with your buff ideas, and hope they buff it more in the future
I speak from experience when i say when you can talk to other people and they can take advantage of your support then this weapon is actually really solid, which leads to the major problem of it, it was designed to support and only support and in a game where you cant talk to other itll often fall short, because painting and protecting itself at its team is what its meant to do. I like to use it but if i have no idea what my team intends to do then i just die a lot sadly in solo que.
Although Big Swig’s damage output isn’t as strong as the other rollers, it’s just so much fun having a ridiculous amount of ink coverage lol (With a pure set of Ink Saver Main, with a full Ink tank, the Big Swig can roll for an entire minute!)

At first I couldn't figure out why the heck they gave it the kit it has, or how to use it. After playing it for long enough, though, I managed to adjust to its intricacies, and it even helped me relearn Flingza, a weapon I played plenty of in S2 that up until that point I struggled to use in S3. You have to play around landing multiple hits to splat, not unlike Clash blaster, while laying down a busted amount of paint, unlike Clash.
@@lw1391 As someone who also loves Big Swig. I just love that I can actually roll! I mostly play turf war, so I can just go off and paint. Carbon roller was my favorite before, and for a similar reason, SPEED. I just add a bunch of run speed-ups and ZOOM. I will also say that when I personally say I love Big Swig I'm not trying to convince people, the meta changes, weapons drop tiers, or gain them, but I will love big swig. (Not saying that I don't want buffs though, PLEASE buff it.)
I doubt Thermal Ink would be buffed to allow teammates to see marked enemies from it, however I could see a kit where it gets like Point Sensor, Line Marker, or Ink Mine, kinda giving it a scouting role Add on Tenta Missi- I mean Wavebreaker, and your entire objective could be to expose hidden enemies so your teammates can find and splat them, while you can also paint to keep your side of the map cleanly covered, maybe sneaking behind enemies lines as well while the enemy is distracted to get some extra painting done XD
Id say a better kit for it would be like burst bombs and... ink vac is prob ok? Burst bombs would just open up to faster kills, which this thing needs, that boost of 30 dmg would be useful
as a big swig main (4 stars) i’d say the most effective way of using this weapon is on splat zones/turf war where you can go as much special charge up as possible and spamming ink vac, since ink vac ven be VERY effective when used right (can hold/take a zone REALLY well)
As someone who's 5-starred both Big Swigs, I can say that using the weapon in a half support, half slaying weapon can be really effective. If you have the aim to reliably land vertical swings and the high ground to bother people with falloffs, you cab very easily get upwards of 15-18 kills per match, as long as your teammates can help with enemy backlines, as they're your worst enemy. Additionally, Angle Shooter combos work wonders with the Express kit, as the whole kit synergizes incredibly well to maximize chip damage and get kills from further away. If your aim is good enough, Angle Shooter + vertical swing can increase your effective kill range drastically.
The 35 minimum damage buff was really great. In my opinion if Nintendo wants to signify this weapon as a primary ROLLER, that ROLLS and Dosent fling, the rolls should be one hits. 100 damage. It’s fine if horizontal is 70 ig 😅
Oddly, at lower levels, Big Swig is a surprisingly consistent killer if you're already used to short-range weapons. The flick also handily combos into the roll, although I've never actually used this.
pro tip: if you place down wall it gives you a few seconds of protected painting , you can get a bunch of easy map control if you play it kinda like a 52 gal
I've had fun with it in turf war, you get a good number of the enemy down, you will cover SO MUCH ground. But then again that's just me and I like to prove people wrong about weapons, I suppose that's what the ink walls for, so you have time to retaliate before they can.
Most of my success with the Big Swig Roller for my video on it was literally me treating it like an oversized slosher on more elevated maps ( Sturgeon Shipyard & Flounder Heights ). Even before the minimum damage increase of the horizontal flick.

Maybe it's cause I spend most of my time in Turf which is definitely the mode it's intended for but IDK, I just love Big Swig

As a flingza main (who would have guessed) i love big swig it's everything i wanted flingza to be. A horizontal with the inkage of a dynamo and a vertical that (by my testing) is more powerful than carbon. But the kit suck so im sticking to my boi flingza
Big Swig lived up to its name sorta. It’s a good turf weapon and coverage but lacks in splattering power. Support really goes a long way. And in a game like Splatoon where a kill can determine if you cover ink. It doesn’t help that it’s Ink Vac charge and Wall make you be defensive even sitting duck, it lack in offense. This weapon is the one guy at the bar who had a bit too many drinks who wanting to fight but doesn’t do much but go run charging but goes down to flop. I guess you say the big swig is a swing and a potential bad vertical miss. ------------------- Lillie notes: I actually missed using Splatoon 2 roller and the Big Swing sorta reminded me of how I used to play sneaky squid. My personal recommendation: It more of a fun weapon than actual fighting. Easy sheldon ticket rank, you can build a kit (I have alot of intensify and ink saver) around but maybe trade for serious time use roller carbon nice.
I think you can get splats well enough, especially with all these short range shooters, just kite backward, if they keep chasing you chip em down with the horizontal flick, if they back off to regenerate health, finish em off with the vertical flick.
@@JAZZYMETALSONIC all it takes is 3 hits, and youre slowing them down at the same time, idk it didnt take much longer than bamboozler and that can get plenty of splats despite its lower damage compared to other chargers, big swig covers even more area so its easier to hit. Its definitely easy to counter and its tough going against a team with an anchor weapon or two, and you cant do shit against hp specials, but against all these shooters like splash and cjr you can often keep them out of range and if theyre near a teammate ive often gotten multiple at a time cause by time it might seem like an issue to them theyre 1 hit away and even if they run theyre in vertical flick range. I have no idea how to use ink wall though...
No one can convince me otherwise at this point that the one TRUE buff it needs is just ROLL SPEED. This thing is supposed to paint well with the trade off of being weak so why not just lean into painting? Have it be about as fast as an Octo Brush and now it's viable since it can then upit's survivability just running around!
What I've noticed that the ink efficiency of the horizontal slash is actually quite limiting big swig. It can outrange normal roller so you could do chip damage from good places, but unfortunately you have to recharge often. You can't stall out enemies long with paint support bc you have to recharge, and the enemy can still sometimes move through bc of bad damage and/or ping (basically enemy is swimming in their ink longer than you see them since you painted their front, exists for all weapons and you have to predict around it but really is a problem for big swig). You are dead to long range and backliners, unless you can have a wall up and they aren't above you, which is pretty uncommon. The rolling speed while faster, doesn't let you escape or ink better than horizontal slash. Vertical slash, well, it exists but is very tuned down, barely one shots and barely gives faster movement. And its bad combat capability really falls further when people start aiming better even close up at higher ranks.
My brother has mained this roller as soon as he touched it. His goal in every match? Annoy the enemy team as much as possible. His strategy? Roll straight into the enemy base and stay alive while dodging enemy attacks as long as possible.
Everybody trashes on it cause they can’t use it in anarchy battle well They don’t realize it was made specifically for turf war That’s literally how I won the majority of my splatfest battles
I've been treating Big Swig as a poking device. Similar to Tetra Dualies, I use quick respawn and super jump on my gear when playing it. Like Vasko said, it's more of a weapon that depends on teammates than by itself. I've discovered it has a quick kill time at close range (you flick a horizontal at the enemy and then roll over them, but this is at very close range). I think sharking is the way to go with Swig. Big Swig is similar to Tri-Stringer in which it supports the team. I've been able to get lots of kills when I pick on an enemy that is weak. It's not a weapon where you can lead the whole team to victory. I think it teaches the player a lot about cooperation. You have to be extremely patient playing this roller. It definitely needs a buff on its damage, but nonetheless, I've had a great time playing it. Even if I haven't won as many battles as usual, it's one of the funnest weapons in Splatoon 3.

I’ve gotten up to 4⭐️’s with this weapon and imo it is without question the worst weapon in the game with a terrible kit. I have one good play with this weapon (I did record it but didn’t upload it). It destroyed my S+ rank, knocking it all the way to -4000+. Yes this is very possible and the Big Swig helped me discover it. I would argue it’s great for tower control because it’s overhead swing does 40 damage and it’s range is massive. Other then that, due to my stubbornness of trying to get 5 stars with this weapon I’ve had so many bad games. It’s not say I’ve never got enemy splatter, overall splatter or one of the golden medals. It takes a lot battles before I get those titles.
Personally, I think it would be really cool if the big swig could instakill while rolling. the rolling functionality of rollers is really under utilized and with the big swig's ink efficiency and speed while rolling along side it's large hitbox it's the perfect roller to capitalize on the mechanic. Of course, in a game as range-focused as Splatoon 3 I doubt these changes would make it excellent but it would definitely fill a fun niche.

For me it’s basically a combo of The Carbon Roller and The Dynamo Roller. Dynamo’s hit box with Carbon’s damage… decent kit.

The Big Swig was a weapon I was excited for. But to put it lightly, I was disappointed with the outcome. Especially of how awful it is at killing

I love playing this weapon aggressively, i remember winning a 5 in a row on splatzones it was so satisfying
