A legend in our own times we must appreciate Arturo Sandoval! Greatest trumpet player! tone, range, and art of making music like it is from heaven, Thank God.
I love how he's playing without any post editing but I can hear the vinyl crackle/hiss in his tone. And how it sounds like he's using a mute but only in certain notes. Truly amazing👏
Wonderful Arturo Sandoval !!!! The Pelé of trumpet music. This one is a legend! He wanted to know about music at least 5% of what he knows. My God, how much technique, art, gift. And of course with much effort and certainly daily studies for several hours. Amazing! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing number of musical styles: Basie, Haydn, Armstrong, Baker, and more all distilled into Maestro Sandoval! Thank-you for demonstrating how easy it is for a master to flip the switches in their aural capacity. How to develop this listening ability....JUST DO IT? I imagine that over many years of doing it it gets better. I can't help thinking that this aural capacity is developed at a young age, just like language -looks like an avenue for some musical-psychological research. Well, better late than never....I'll be LISTENING like never before.
This is so true!!! And so overlooked with a lot of trumpet players. I read a Maynard quote back in 8th grade, many years ago, in which he said we should listen to as many styles and players as possible. I've been privileged to sit next to skilled symphonic players and powerful lead players. I pay attention to how they phrase EVERYTHING. Listen. Absorb. Imitate. Replicate.
Arturo Sandoval killed the myth of jazz trumpet vs classical trumpet, need for different horn weights and finishes to produce specific styles of sounds and genres. He does it all on master level with 1 horn!!!!!!!!!! Why do horn players continue going crazy with traditional myths about needing dozen horns for different styles of music?
Look like a man who knows his balls. Very good different style of playing with a maestros touch: Easy to understand fantastic pitch, control and execution. No bullshit.
I'm not religious, but I've just had a spiritual moment. If I sat next to him, I would believe I'd be in the presence of something...otherworldly. Arturo is my God.
Wow! I didn't know one person could make such different sounds from the same trumpet. And me, I always sound the same even across different trumpets ;-)
Good advice and useful for more than just music. Still, there is no way I could figure out how he gets that airy tone without being shown or told. Is it emboucher or valve manipulation?
Arturo, what trumpet model do you play? I need to own this one, for I cannot do on the trumpet what you can. Figured, the trumpet must be the reason:-))
Sometime I would love to hear an analysis of the ballad recordings made by Bobby Hackett on those beautiful albums. Some of them were under the name Jackie Gleason. Not to take away from Arturo or Paul; Bobby to me is like a "god."
have to say it ... gorgeous home and furnishings! Mrs Sandoval must be a bit of an artist too. I have listened a lot, but I was crap on the trumpet, so the listening he is talking about must be much different than mine!
La hka www.andaluciami.com/ This is his newest horn that he just bought a couple weeks ago. It is the AdVance phase 3 horn. Not the one in this video, but his current horn
that was fun! Follow me on twitter to get in on the action next time twitter.com/jazztrombonist

Loving this series, amazing to see one of the greats open up in such an engaging way. His control of his tone is absolutely freaky here
Sweet. It's always sweet to watch two masters collaborate.

At 6:40 I fell on the floor. To sit and listen to this man... Where was he when I was learning??

Trumpeteers are always good singers
+Bob Landy Haha My trumpet teacher said I was a better singer than trumpet player.
Whether we are or not we do it any way. It rests the chops and also makes our horn playing sound better in comparison!
