I really really like that it is not loud. People today like their cars to scream like they will get 300hp extra from it. But this, just perfect! You can hear it, but at the same time so comfy and refined... Just the best car/thing ever made! 😍😍😍
Sorry but I respectfully disagree when my e39 M5 was stock it was terrible. You can’t hear the exhaust at all. Muffler delete was perfect no drone dropped like 25 lbs And sounds amazing. it saddens me when I hear a e92 e39 or especially the V10 monsters with a stock exhaust.
@@ryanrobinson2401needs to be a balance between them, quiet enough to not be miserable with drone when you want, but enough to hear it when you get on it. I maybe wanted straight pipes and loud as hell when I was 16 but not as an adult 😂
Man love the E39 M5, the best era of BMW's for sure. There something about older bimmers that just appeals to alot of enthusiasts, just like me. Great example Tom, I would go ahead and get a full suspension refresh, once you are going that deep, might as well get it done so it you know that its all done and no surprise bushing goes out and have to do pay twice. Enjoy that S62 ! :)
I just wonder what will happen when all of the good old enthusiast cars will be mandated out of existence and fade away to time, so we have nothing left but boring EVs…
I relax with Tedward's videos, and the E39 was a little of a surprise for me. I never paid attention to E39s, but back in 2020 a mate of mine bought the 530d, and I fell in love with the "old schoolness". It felt and drove amazingly, and to be fully honest, I have never been as surprised by a car as the E39. I know that despite being an Italian exotics lover, this BMW surely holds a spot in my dream garage. Thanks as usual, Tedward.
Of the 22 cars I no longer have, the E39 M5 is the one I miss the most. One of the best all around cars ever made. Five years in, I still smiled every time I saw it in the garage. Sadly I was concerned about high mileage EGR lights and big $$ to fix and pass emissions.
Hit the nail on the head with the seals. My c32 has been leaking oil and the shop today told me about $1600.00 to replace the rear main seal. Did the valve cover gaskets 2 years ago with a ton of other things as well. Old German cars get expensive. When it rains it pours, I find... and yes I'm talking about oil.
Those stalks and that steering wheel make me so nostalgic for my ZHP. Just some of the best feeling, most tactile controls from a great era of BMW. Still between an e39 M5 or e46 M3 for my next Bimmer.
Tedward, that E39 is getting much needed attention. I am not surprised that the brake fluid looks so bad. Get the E39 all sorted and it will be full force once again.
Ted your M5 looks so nice amd comfortable, which is amazing when you consider its abilities. In BMWs, I have an E30 325ic, and a Z3 2.8. I’d love to get an E39 for traveling, but my husband/mechanic hates working on BMWs newer than the E30. So…. My office mate has two e39s, one immaculate white car that I just drool over.
Just picked up an 02 C32 AMG up in northern Maine, essentially same trip as you, and my God is Maine beautiful. The old german rocket ships find themselves right at home on those roads, definitely glad the C32 made it the 300 miles back down to RI and did it without breaking a sweat. The Germans really don't make them like they used to!
"You need to treat these as things you love." When anyone asks me about buying cars, I tell them that I think about cars the same way I think about vacations. Trading money for an experience over some period of time. That's it. It's never an "investment." As a semi mechanic I can chime in on your tiny “80mph semi” comment. Through all manufacturers software which you have to use for diagnostics, ecm updates, and many other things, you are also able to modify the “road speed” (actual vehicle speed cap) and “cruise speed” (maximum speed the cruise control can be set at).
the first year e39 m5 with the 99m3 m roadster steering wheel the 2000 model doesn't feel the same as the 2001 2002 m5, i think people should know that. also genuinely thanks for all your videos, 911 r was amazing.
"BBS or HRE wheels" I mean, BMW sold the E39's stock with "style 42" wheels which are literally just 2-piece BBS wheels with a BMW badge in the middle lol. They're rare as hell, but they look absolutely perfect on E39's.
You know, I was feeling a bit confused when I saw the front of the new 5 series, I didn't know why it looked so foreign to me, as if BMW lost the design plot. But then seeing the front end of your E39, you can definitely see some inspiration. It's mostly in the way the hood points down so abruptly. Your car seems to be a bit that way. And don't get me wrong, it's sexy af. Is it just me ??
I've bought myself an E46 320cd sadly the only two things that grind my gears are open diff and the Diesel Engine. I sell it after giving it some maintenance and buy myself a E39 or a E46 again but this time atleast the 6 Cylinder petrol.
The type R as awesome of a car as it is style wise 25 years from now will look dated it will look like a 25 year old car now the E39 M5 is literally timeless 👌
Limited income is not a thing you want when you have a BMW. ESPECIALLY the older ones. I had an '06 E46 M3 that had no more than 25k miles at 20 yrs old. 2nd best car I've ever driven, but my GOD was that thing a money pit. So much so I couldn't afford to keep it at such a young age, so I sold it. I miss it everyday, but it was a valuable lesson in financial preparedness.

Nice to see the e39 again! With older non daily vehicles, it's often a question of how much to drive and how much to fix. Often they are correlated. 😆

Tedward, you'd be crazy NOT to fit a Supersprint full system! I put their full system (w/ those beautiful headers) on my 4.6is and just wow.
The reason some trucks hit that high speed is because they’re manual or don’t have the limiters . Dumb trucks can hit 110 I think
That’s insanity. We can hit about 80 on a downhill and it starts to feel unsettled
the thought of a dump truck passing me at 110 is very unsettling for me cause imagine the bump draft you'd get

Hi, friend! Great cars, great reviews! I have one request, please give me a little camera.
Every time I watch your M5 videos I search for E39 M5's for sale...
Are those amber backlights on your gauges? I thought BMWs of this era had red gauges.
Are your german plastics coated black? If so, how haven't they chipped to the white yet?
Which non Tesla budget EV would you recommend? Bolt ev/euv, Leaf, Kona electric, etc
Depends on your use. The bolt is awesome but slow charge speed could be frustrating on longer drives
