I think you will enjoy building a 'scratch job'....I built a home-brew Fender 5F2A amp and stand-alone 6G15 reverb unit....I used tweed cloth for both cabinets. To save time, I bought both cabinets from a guy in CA who makes the cabinets from 'pine'...
I built a 5E3 and a 5F1 using classic Tone Transformers and man I'm gonna miss them !!! Excellent period correct pieces and great prices. I wonder how many other little businesses we will lose thanks to Chicago's handling of the virus ???
These are a great sounding circuit. I have been enjoying my Vibrolux Reverb which is very similar, with 2) 10" ( one Jensen and one Oxford, both original OEM from Fender) for 53 years.
Great, I love the Fender Blackface Vibroverb! Can't wait for the build. Your channel and videos are always a pleasure to watch! You are great, Terry! 👌 Best regards drom Austria!
Great amp project. My friend and I built a couple of these back in 2011. Mojo cabinets, Mercury Magnetics transformers, and Weber 15 speakers. Still one of my favorite amps.
Yep, I would assume there will be ADs via YT. If not, there would not be anymore D-Lab vids. I have no control over the ads, However cannot operate this shop for free. Finding time is hard enough for the work involved
I have that 150 in 1 Electronic Project Kit that is on top of your cupboard in my small collection of electronic set's. It's a really good one as it's made out of real wood. 😊
This will be a fun series.... Glad you are using that brass plane on this... I learned alot from you when you worked on my amp so I know this will be a cool and quality build... Well done T !
Sweet ! I just got finished with a custom EL34 PP tube amp build. It turned out fantastic, which I did not expect right out of the gate. Bias was even at a good setting at first fire up. Got a Mid pot backward wired, oops, and completely forgot feedback wiring.. but for the most, worked great, sounds excellent, clean or crunch :) I hear you on the delays in shipping, but most was my fault, taking a couple weeks to order all of it. Then every shipping truck passing by house, I was like a dog, checking the door for deliveries, lol.
Do you prefer FNT over Nichicon? And if so, why? At 7:10, how do you pronounce the Micolax socket, if that is not correct? Did you make the chassis, or was that bought as-is?
Really interested on your project - I am working on building the 6G11A Vibrolux and I'm having the same issue with parts, especially on capacitors being in short supply. Looking forward on seeing updates on your build.
Great amp! The output transformer is oversized, but it was a very common mod to use a Bassman output transformer on these amps. The Vibroverb/Bandmaster/Tremolux sized output transformer is kinda small for the rated 40 watts output.
@@d-labelectronics Try Heyboer Transformers they hand wind transformers and chokes and they sound fantastic at very reasonable prices. Their marshal transformers are the best reproductions available and the Schumacher fender iron is great also I cant speak highly enough about those folks. Their 50 watt 784-139 OT is a monster and their C1998 100 watt OT is a killer also. I'm not affiliated with Heyboer I'm just an old retired builder who just likes to spread the word about great products and great people.
Can't go wrong with a 15" speaker...always wondered why more people haven't picked up on just how good they sound... Terry, I'm curious: is there any substantive advantage to be gained by using the brass plates as opposed to a stout buss wire soldered across the backs of the pots? I do this on the few builds that I undertake, and it works like a charm for me, but I'm not one to buck the ghost of Leo... Love your channel...you did a great job on my tweed Deluxe chassis a few years back...mucho props from Tejas...
Nice project Terry. Sure do enjoy your videos. Quick question, I'm outfitting my bench with a variac and an isolation transformer. For most work do you think a 5amp Variac and a 500va isolation transformer would cover most jobs? Old radios and guitar amps for sure, but some larger amps? Or is this over kill for most bench work. Thanks. WB7DUO
How can you make as you said an amp that is as close to the original vibroverb, and use an output tformer that is nothing like the original. The original had a small output transformer about the same size as the bandmaster, not one the size you are using. That’s more the size of a bassman transformer. Makes a difference in the sound.
@@d-labelectronics understood. talk the customer into a JBL D130F and a mercury FBFVO-40-M output transformer and with you building it, he will get a great amp. carry on. enjoy all your videos.
Terry, you might give some thought to building a blackface Deluxe Amp, without reverb. Great size. Just enough power. I guess the tough part is getting chassis for these old builds ...
I have a kind of a dumb tech question that comes purely from morbid curiosity: Could you use a ceiling fan capacitor as a replacement reservoir capacitor in a tube amp? I mean, they're cheap, readly available in common values for vintage amps, and you can fit the can-shaped ones in the capacitor clamp of some old amps, if you wanna keep the "looks" of an original part. Could they cause any harm?
It's not the value that is a problem, it is the voltage rating. Ceiling fan caps usually are only rated for 250V. The ones used in tube amps are rated 400+.
Good luck with the build, Terry, sounds like you have nearly all your -ducks in a row- parts on hand! Mic Check: At 0:24 onward during the intro, there's a barely noticable hum in the background, audible when you aren't speaking. It sounds sort of like fluorescent lamp ballast hum. This is _not_ a complaint, just pointing it out so you're aware of it, as part of you getting used to the new wireless microphone. I was watching the video while wearing earbuds, so maybe it wouldn't be noticeable otherwise. It wasn't distracting in any way. Take care, sir!
So got it for $25 with lp8 probe. Now I just need a manual. Owner had one but he is moving and it was shipped already. He said he will mail it to me when he gets to new location but that will be another 2 to 3 weeks. Plus I told him about your channel...
Hey if you still find yourself short on parts for the build send me a list of what you need I have just about everything you need to complete that amp.
Hey there MR. D-Lab I just had a really quick question……I was wondering if you could e-mail me the schematics and the parts list for the DEL RAY GA-20 amplifier as I am wanting to maybe build that style of amplifier but also give it my own personal twists to some of the circuits just playing around with some values and using a diode style rectifier along with some other goodies…..(by the way……do you live in Michigan like the Chelsea area) ? Just wondering as I live around that area as well and me and my brother talk on the air waves as well ….. thanks in advance
Still love the videos and content as always. But, I'm not loving the new lapel mic nearly as much - your camera's built in audio was much cleaner than the new mic. Not real sure what the deal is but you sound a bit muddy and a bit muffled - maybe the EQ balance on the mic is off or something. Anyway, keep that content coming. Thanks.
@@cchavez248 I recently purchased two of Terry's amps - the Airline Vintage 6V6 and the Towncraft suitcase amp, both of which are featured in his videos. The craftsmanship is top notch and they sound wonderful. The man definitely knows his stuff.

I had a set of Classic Tone transformers for my Steel String Singer build and they are just brilliant, sad to see them go

I did a bunch of Weber kits... they DO have brass plates, although just for the face (no angle). Worked really well.

As always Sir, great parts for a great Amp, built by a Master. Can't wait for the follow up videos and final debut.

Better than a new Fender, custom built by DLabs.
