I play ToB with tears in my eyes. I knew, that all those houres spend playing the most epic saga in history of cRPG games, are about to be over. I saw all these ruins, and my loyal friends trying to fight with the evil of children of Bhaal with their last breath. And at the end... When I destroyed the Throne I read the epilogues of my team and... I cryied.
NEVER in my life I felt so connected to the story and characters. IMO Baldurs Gate Saga is for games what Lord of the Ring is for books

I was 17 when I finished ToB for the first time over the course of two weeks, during summer break. This was 2001, ofc.
I relate to what you're saying. I remember feeling a deep melancholy over finishing the saga, which lingered for weeks afterward. I remember the strange mixture of sorrow and happiness I felt while reading the epilogues. No item of media had ever affected me that way before.

Coming back from the Marching Mountains and discovering you're too late to save Saradush, then fighting through a huge army to get to Yaga Shura with this music blasting is pretty much the most awesome thing in the entire BG series.

Somewhere in this comment section years ago I wrote as a kid about how fighting Sendai was so easy since the plan I had worked. Can't remember which account.
I got back into playing BG2 again this year and when I got to Sendai playing on core rules-- didn't want it too easy, didn't want to lose members permanently, and didn't want to have the hassle of installing mods-- and I can definitely say with this music playing after 10 or so years of not playing BG2 the stress felt real. I don't know what younger me did but it didn't work this time around.
Two weapon style with Crom Faeyr and upgraded Runehammer felt so fuckin' OP on my Ranger, but only at the 10th attempt lol

@KylerWyler Most likely because this build was one of the latest I used, and by that time I did all quite quickly, so the only banter able to crash my party was Korgan/Aerie (and those will be able to stay together in ToB, since Aerie stopped being a pushover) since they have so little conversations to the point of rupture.
Really, I'm not really sure, but also Edwina's quest delays quite a bit the moment they fight each other.

You should've tried the Ascension mod for Throne of Bhaal by David Gaider (Bioware Senior Designer). It's his vision of what Throne of Bhaal should've been. All boss fights are much tougher. For example you fight several dragons & wyvern type enemies when fighting Abazigal instead of just him with a few salamanders. Also Imoen gains in power throughout ToB (Due to her being a Bhaalspawn). She gains a +1 to all of her stats. She also turns into the slayer just as you did in SoA. Much better IMHO.

Berserker/mage was one that I liked for TOB. I'd play him as a Berserker up to about level 20 and the Bladesinger/Asylferund chain mail, then dual to mage just in time to get all those fat XP bonuses you get at the end of SOA. There's something therapeutic about firing off Time Stop and Improved Alacrity (with the Robe of Vecna) then Improved Haste, ADHW, Comet, Mordey's Sword, Pierce Shield, Breach, Hopelessness, Berserk, and then when the time stop ends, start hacking!

To be honest I found the D&D mechanics of the game a little dull, but I only realised that after playing Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights. It was the story, and the involvement of the player with the world, giving him (me) an origin, a history, making him feel important, not to mention the characters and the depth of interaction you had with other party members, that kept me coming back to Baldurs Gate. I hope Dragon Age: Origins can come close. Even if it is only close, it'll still be great.

Trigger three Nahal's Reckless Dweomers simultanously and there you go, unlimited spell uses for every spell in your spellbook, memorized or not. haha dang dude that is some serious shit, a combo i had yet to contemplate! i still am satisfied with Assassin equipped with Staff of the ram, gets X7 power, most attacks do about 125-150 damage, criticals kill anything in one hit, about 250-300 damage, plus if you coat your weapons with poison, they really have no chance to run and hide/heal themselves

  • @jwunschie14
    @jwunschie14 15 лет назад

it shouldnt be a problem if you have beaten demogorgon, the key to beating amelysan is swarming her with fighters so she cant really attack back. make them use whirlwind, she will fall in about 7 seconds each battle. there is a bug however sometimes, if you attack her too persistently, she actually cannot admit defeat, and since she can't die, she will keep attacking you, so lay off after a while when she is in the Near death range...

    My setup was typically:
    Aerie (Mage/Cleric)
    Jaheira (Druid/Fighter)
    Minsc (Ranger)
    Sarevok (Fighter)
    Imoen (Mage/Thief)
    PC (Half-Orc Barbarian)
Never once had issues with this setup. Sarevok usually gets swords, Minsc gets halberds (Ravager +6), Jaheira gets a sling, Aerie gets a sling, and Imoen gets a short bow or throwing dagger. Jaheira can double as a melee fighter with a good club or scimitar. Barbarian PC usually dual wields flails/crom faeyr.
Had no issues beating Ascension at all.
