If you look at the template I'm using, there is a piece between the thumb and index finger on the glove that appears to be a finger, but is actually just a piece of leather between the crisscross stitching. It's not actually a place for your finger... I think it helps keep the ball in the glove, but I'm not a baseball expert.

I count 5 fingers and a thumb plus the spot for the laces
