I think people who visit here ought to know (if they don't already) that the Japanese Communist Party is notable for distancing itself from the Soviet Union long ago and not mourning its collapse, and is one of the largest non-governing communist parties in the world. It has a very strong identity which one could only expect from Japan.
The modern Japanese Communist Party isn't really as extreme as its name suggests. It's just that the Japanese political spectrum is very right-shifted, what with the Minshinto and Komeito and all those people. Their party platforms and general political beliefs fall more in line with what would be considered mainstream social democracy in Europe, for example the SPD in Germany.

Many modern communist parties are trying to steer the public towards socialism democratically using the system.
