Need help with your MX-5 Miata, I have a heap of technical guides here: ruclips.net/p/PLongVur9FFho3xHKJjbWPyYBQK0N9ADO5
it makes the car look so different it almost looks like a mini porsche
There was certainly some inspiration taken from the Porsche 911 when designing this roof.
Thanks for watching Liquid, appreciate the support. :)
That’s how I feel about my Miata anyway. It’s my pre-911 car. I will have an 80’s-90’s 911 one day, if I can manage not to buy another WRX. Meanwhile, my mods are vintage Porsche inspired. However, I’m afraid my pocketbook, after mods will make me a Miata lifer😂
Wow did not expect the wind testing at the end. Fabulous!
Cool thanks for watching Affinity!
Need to sell fastback piece for the rest of us
You can purchase them from Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook.
My god what a beauty! I love that fastback look.. very nice Brandon! 👌
Thank U!
It's not easy having a unique Miata, nice work!
Thanks! 👍
@@Bbeavis thank you for the effort. I really like the flush quarter windows.
It's very interesting because it changes the car's personality altogether, for the better
in my opinion; very good job
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching Dominique
That is a awesome fastback top I would love to have one for my 99 nb to make my miata friends jealous.
Get in contact with Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook, they have them for sale.
Looks awesome, reminds me of the MX-6 shark all wheel steering model. so cool!
Glad you liked it iRidetas, thanks for watching!
This mod completely transforms this car. I’ve always respected the Miata but hated the way it looks. I don’t like convertibles and have always wanted Mazda to offer a real coupe. I really wish Mazda had sold the mx5 this way from the factory. Looks purposeful and a lot more serious.
Thanks sage :-)
They did. Google the nb8c. Good luck finding one though.
That looks amazing, very nice job.
Thank you! Cheers!
Definitely ordering one of these when I get big👍
Right on!
Honestly this Miata looks AMAZING.
Thank you Jesús, really appreciate the support!
It looks interesting and I suppose it gives you an edge over the normal miata at high speed: less drag-more downforce. Plus you should get less noise at high speed.
Indeed, thanks for watching :)
I love the lightyear fastback, it's a shame it' s not a production piece
Hey David, the new version of this roof will be available for production purchase in early 2018
i can't ask for more. I better start saving some money.
How much?:o
Not sure Psycho P, Somewhere around $2000-$2500
*subscribed to keep track of this! I don't even have an NB!
Love it!
Thanks boosted miata, haven't heard from you in a while!
That's fair. I don't expect many people to like old Jimmy Buffett. Really nice top!
Haha.
Looks sweet, well done. You wouldn’t have the designs for the mould you could pass on? :)
Can't really pass on a 2 metre long mould very easily, sorry Jake.
@@Bbeavis I love how they look and gonna have a crack at making a mould since I can’t get ahold of one. And tips or advice?
i really wish someone made a double-bubble roof for our NBs. just like the S2000's and MR-S's hardtop.
Pay a fibreglass shop enough money and they might make you one!? Who knows, you could end up selling many of them as kits to others.
VERY nicely done ! Mazda should "take notice" of what you have created here. Greetings from USA !
Thanks my American friend!
Jesus... that’s sooo much work. Fair effort dude
Thank you bobby, appreciate you taking the time to comment. Thanks for subscribing to my little channel :-)
The semen attached to the car to check aero was a cleaver idea! Awesome build too:)
The sperms are fundamental to understanding aero haha! :-P Thanks for watching Gosta!
Sperm aero confirms car still too slow so fastback is worthless
The WHAT ??
amazing it looks like a mini aston db7 nice work!
Cheers Axel!
You should think about making one with a removable top like on the supra. Be perfect for when you want good aero and when you want to have the top open
Very cool idea Mitchell, I think there's a guy in Greece that makes exactly that!
Looks fantastic! Would be even crazier if one could be made with a functional liftback mechanism, so the trunk is still useable.
The trunk is still usable.
@@Bbeavis Does it require removing the top? maybe my eyes aren't seeing it correctly, but it appears to be a single piece, and partially covering the trunk lid.
@@InvidiousIgnoramus The trunk lifts up more or less like normal. Hard to see but there is a separation from the main roof piece.
@@Bbeavis Ahh, Okay. Thank you!
Amazinnggggg another great video
Thanks Mani!!
Looks great! I can tell you guys know a bit about aerodynamics ;) Fits well with an aftermarket spoiler too, bonus! I have an NB2 with a horrid-fitting oem spoiler and I've yet to find one to my liking out there. It may sound crazy, but for that alone I taking interest in this fastback top haha.
Is the glass/lexan for the windows supplied? As well as seals? Is the boot functionality kept the same? DD so it has to pull errand duty time to time lol. Anyway, keep us updated!
Hi WIlliam, thanks for taking the time to comment! Indeed the roofs include windows and seals, and the boot still opens. Please check out Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook if you are interested in buying one.
Slick super beautiful I wish I had one
Cheers.
what a beautiful car! and i didn't know you can test the aerodynamic of car using that way. its cool though...
Thank you Bayu!
Love the trunk shape
Great to hear, thanks for watching Cesar!
So sick mate 👌
Cheers!
Hey Beavis, long time sub here, just a quick question. Would you say this beautiful set up would reduce drag over the hard and soft top to give any noticeable improvements over fuel economy and top speed?
The fastback would very likely reduce drag and increase lift.
Ooooh I need this uuuurgent!! Does it fit when you have a rollbar? I want to get a rollbar for adding safety. But first I need a Miata😅
It has the same clearance as an OEM hardtop.
Super cool!!!
Thanks JHG!
10/10 - Would buy it instantly...
Thank you Admiral!
Great music as well
Haha, cheers mate!
Hey! Loving the car! Small question, does the trunk open or is it no longer functional?
Hey Wataru, yes it is still accessible, you can see how I mounted it here: ruclips.net/video/j06OJU3GNNc/видео.htmlm56s
Is the top removable if I want to drive with the top down like the OEM hardtop?
It is removable, just takes a few more bolts to undo it than the standard roof latches. Personally I couldn't be bothered.
I dont need a turbo on mine THIS IS WHAT I NEED
Would be cheaper in the long run I reckon!
Awesome! Here's an idea: make one with a split rear window where the glass "wraps" around the pillars so it would mimic a 1963 Corvette.
That would be Cool
How much does it weigh? I’m curious to know how heavy it weighs compared to the regular hardtop.
They are about 14kg / 30lbs , complete with roof and trunk.
So dope!
Thank you.
Holy s*it, this looks amazing! :O
Haha thanks Mr Doge!
Excellent look. Was more than one fastback top made?
Hi Rob, yes they make more now. You can get in touch with the manufacturer via facebook: Lightyear Carbon Fibre.
How's the wind noise on the hardtop at highway speeds? Any issues with leaks?
Its pretty noisy and windy, but thats because i only use it for the race track doing 200+kmh ~120mph. I don't drive in the rain, but I'm sure it'd be leaker than an oem roof.
Been looking for ages and cant seem to find one in australia. honestly need one of these really bad to complete the dream look im wanting!!
Yeah there just weren't enough of them made sadly.
@@Bbeavis Were you a part of the build? im curious to look into making one, maybe you have some tips/pointers by any chance?
BEAVIS Motorsport hey mate. So they are no longer available?
@@andrewfleming6487 You'll need to contact Lightyear Carbon Fibre, they are the ones who built the roofs.
Thay the wing off the back itll probly make the air flow smoother throughout
We put the trunk spoiler on to visualize it with the wool tufts - you will notice it was not installed for the entirety of the video - it was only installed temporarily.
Hi just wondering how long this took you to make and roughly the overall cost on making it. Thanks.
It has been a work in progress for many years in the garage... costs are immeasurable. But you can buy them from Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook.
You said they'd be available in early 2018. When can I buy something like this?
Hi Black Cat, you can contact the manufacturer on Facebook 'Lightyear Carbon Fibre'
Sick AF!!
Thank you Wikudo!
Thats sp sick bro i want one too but probaly take a long time for me to do it cuz i lazy
It certainly does take commitment. :)
Omg u commented back yayy
😝
Gorgeous
Thank you Robert
The yellow primer made it look like a little tykes car
Haha yeah a bit more streamlined though perahps.
If this goes into production, where will that be available? And what will the shipping options be?
Hi Tom - thanks for watching! Sadly I am not the manufacturer, however they are working on production units which are expected early 2018 - do a google for "lightyear carbon fibre fastback" for more info on when they will be available.
BEAVIS Motorsport I have looked around, but the most information I could really find about it is a few forum topics discussing buying one, but I have yet to find a website or like from which they will be sold? Is there an official Lightyear HomePage? Thanks for responding! I really appreciate the content and the help!
Hey Tom, sadly not a lot of detail yet as it's not finalized I'll do my best to post back here when it IS ready and available for purchase.
Any chance you'd make and sell roughly shaped hard tops?
The new version of this roof will be available for purchase in early 2018
So once this is done you cant go open top anymore ?
You can unbolt the roof fairly quickly if you wish.
do you think you'll ever consider selling fastbacks in aus if you still have the moulds intact? i know a group in the states makes them, but they seem to take a year or so to even get made on order
Stewart Mckinna what company?
Hey Stewart, the new version of this roof will be available for purchase in early 2018
Autokonexion I assume...
Hum... Their website is down..
David Texugo STAY AWAY FROM AUTOKENEXION!!!
yeah that appears to be the general sentiment on autokonexxions fastbacks
the bonnet vents are at a too steep angle, the second vent (closer to the windshield) looks to me that it makes a lot of turbulence. I'm not an expert, but i believe that eighter shrinking the vents slightly or change the angle of the fins in order to promote a more efficient Bernoulli effect. Now...i don't know exactly at what speed you recorded that, I'm pretty sure that at higher speed the turbulences would be reduced. Play with this ideea.
Thanks for your suggestions Simion
i love it so much
why did mazda not do this from the start???
Thanks Wiggling :-) We certainly like this new shape. They're now available for purchase at Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook.
Mazda actually made a coupe na fastbacks and like 20 nb fastbacks
Can you still produce these fastbacks, i would like to buy 1
Hi you can contact the manufacturer in the link in the description.
Oh man you might have just sold me on a miata. For which miatas are these made
They aren't made anymore, just a small number were created.
Inventazo!
:D
What do you suppose an LS1 fastback miata would sell for?
*shrug* many dollars?!
20-30k maybe?
If I owned a MX-5 MIATA I would buy this in a heart beat.
Thanks Skua!
costs more than the mx5 itself sooo I think you'd have second thoughts lol
Looks awesome, btw what spoiler is that I thought they only made that model for the na?
Hey Mika, it's an NA kg works trunk spoiler, but has been modified to fit the NB shape.
Ah thought it was kg works interesting, did it take much modifying or was it pretty straight forward?
Nothing drastic, just some trimming down and then glued the thing on the trunk.
Cool
How do you get to your battery in the trunk?
It's where Mazda put it.
@@Bbeavis can you get into your trunk now?
@@CalJennings Yep it opens like normal. The roof and trunk are two separate parts.
The only thing I don't like about this take on MX-5 fastbacks is that qtr window. It looks a little stumpy compared to my Autokonexion unit which seems to flow into the design better.
Some serious tradeoffs though, because your side is perfectly custom/flush whereas the Autokonexion units are basically a direct copy of the OEM hardtop in every way just with a 'ramp' on the back end.
Thanks for watching PD! Everyone has their own take on aesthetics, this roof was designed with track car aerodynamics in mind first and foremost, and took inspiration from the likes of the 996/997 Porsche 911 quarter windows.
I could see the resemblance but shortly after I made that comment, the ol' brian started makin' thought juices again and I figured 'well, if all else fails... I could easily just mod the quarter windows to the length/shape I want them to be and would be easier than to reform my AK FB' :D That ducktail of yours really set it off for me. I liked the overall shape of it as it was but when the ducttail got invovled, you put me in a state of 'STFU AND TAKE MY MONEY!' xD
How much are these anyway?
The trunk lip is a KG works for an NA - bit modified to fit the NB.
The fastback roof will be available for purchase in early 2018 at around $2500 AUD
Do you make that hard top for sale
Yeah they are available in Australia, check out Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook.
The hood is a November gulf for me
But I love the overall looks!
What's a november gulf
I need some of that nature done to my convertible Top I dont want it anymore but i want my car..lol Do any of you wonderful ppl know how to work with fibreglass and molding ..so i can make me a hard to that better that the soft top.. For a 03 Eclipse spyder Gs
Good luck with your quest Timbo
They should've came like this stock or a perf package.
I guess they sort of realized this finally with the ND RF... but it's not as sleek as it could be.
Ive tried contacting them on Facebook twice now, is there any other way to get ahold of them? Or am i just sol
They have closed down.
@@Bbeavis well damn 😔
is this na miata compatible and how much for the fastback? the trunk can't be open with this install?
There is an NA option available. Check out Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook. The trunk still opens fine.
How can I buy one
Contact Lightyear Carbon Fibre, check them out on Facebook.
Are these available yet?
Please get in touch with Lightyear Carbon Fibre.
Sooo uuuhh what's your price on the top?
More than you can afford pal.
Do you guys say Porsche like poorsh or poor shuh
Unfortunately most Australians say it the wrong way. poorsh.
what year miata is it?
1999
I subbed
Awesome Kenneth, thanks for watching!
that's alot of sperm cells chasing your car
It's ok, i washed them off afterwards!
That's tight
I hope your selling some sort of kit and your rich now
Enjoying life
Hey Peter, thank you for your message, sadly I do not sell these, they are available from Lightyear Carbon Fibre on Facebook. I have uploaded a new video with more detail here: ruclips.net/video/-vSkKYHIDvQ/видео.html
Fuck that’s so sweet
Thanks mate.
Do you sell these yet?
Gday Tom, you can get them from lightyear carbon fibre on facebook.

Sorry I don't know Tommy, please feel free to send him a link! Cheers
Huge fan of your vids! Saw that you like my build on Insta @luis.lynchmaldonado thanks for the like and i love your fastback!
Thanks Luis! Love the work you're doing on the roof on your car!
I want one
Check out Lightyear Caron Fibre on facebook to get one!
Looks like an MX6
Hope that's a good thing. :-)
Ok, sooo... I dont hate it. Looks like a little DB7.
Haha, thanks iFazer!
Someone in my country has made a similar one but with an NA Miata but it looked like shit
Hey Minecraft, whereabouts are you? Do you know the name/brand of your local manufacturer?
People do stuff like this, but dont fix the silly placement of the taillights on the evo 10. Smh..
Well that is a shame... poor EVO owners.
BEAVIS Motorsport meh
BEAVIS Motorsport whoever designed the final evo should get shot
BEAVIS Motorsport fuck, even the concept of the evo 10 looks better..
Great craftsmanship. But why? Honest, I just got a Miata and the convertible feature is a pleasure.
Because everyone has their own needs, intentions and desires from their car?
@@Bbeavis Again, I meant no offense. your craftsmanship is amazing!
not the 24sx
Not sure what you mean.
looks fucking sick! but why is it filmed with a potatoe?
Hmm it's just old mobile phone footage to document some of the build process. There's some newer and nicer videos on my channel of the finished products being painted and installed if you're interested.
@@Bbeavis i would love to see it 👌🔥
ruclips.net/video/-vSkKYHIDvQ/видео.html
Daaaaamn, It’s looks sexy.
Thank you :)
why we're these never sold?
They will be available for purchase in early 2018
BEAVIS Motorsport GASP!!! Do you think a large wing with aluminum uprights or the lexan wing would be better for aero? Thank you for the response !
Hi HD, I'm not familiar with "the lexan wing" you are referring to?
Blackbird fabworks sell it. check it out asap. also, while I have your attention. how did you choose your rear spoiler?
Oh the Blackbird spolier and versus a rear wing is very different thing. The spoiler is more for drag reduction, the wing is more for lift reduction. It depends on the type of driving you are doing.
Could have done without the music...
Nah I like the music.
I prefer the real Miata.
Well... this is actually an MX-5. :)
The music was so cringe worthy
Litterly made me wanna kms
Well, it was nice knowing you.
BEAVIS Motorsport don't feel bad i was gonna do it anyways the fastback miata is sick btw
Haha you're a morbid dude but thanks for watching!
I want one
Hey LAMLAM, check out Lightyear Carbon Fibre on facebook, they sell these now.
BEAVIS Motorsport oooh shit son
