Pro competitor here! As an Alisa main who came in 2nd place earning 120k in Japan, I can tell you that the Japanese community was shocked by my incredible victory. The western world considers her to be top tier, while the eastern world considers her to be average at best. Most of her moves are considered unsafe and without the chainsaws, she is pretty much nothing. This is why she has never been nerfed. I am actually surprised that so many western players find her difficult to play against. When I competed earlier this month, I was still in the red rank. While I do love Alisa. She is my favorite character. I can promise you that I won't be using her at a tournament again. That's exactly what I said on the mic after being interviewed.
I just made 73rd place in the NA road to evo tournament. One of my matches was a high level alisa player. It was so hard to win. It was so hard that I was in disbelief that I defeated Alisa as Law. The only things that worked was baiting out her hopkick by not punishing her after an attack, then 1,1,2 and wr 4. It felt like a 15 hour job after the match.
I saw a thread on steam titled "Alisa this character require no skill and keep cast its chainsaw confirm cheap win." I was literally in tears laughing...
I main Alisa and I don't care about her design or anything, it's just the first character that I got my hands on and practiced some to play with my friends at my place, what surprised me was how toxic people were when I tried to play online, calling me names and mocking me, just yesterday a Kazuya player did not rematch after going 1-1,shows how childish the Tekken community really is.
tbh i dont rematch either regardless of whether i win or lose the first game. i just dont find playing against her fun at all. just incredibly annoying
I mean I also love fighting Alisa, but that's because I'm also playing Alisa, and as such am playing a mirror match in which my opponent 'hopefully' knows the matchup. Also it's just funny throwing out random moves and passing out heads back and forth
At least since I’m in the really low levels the counterplay is simple. They spam the high chainsaw, I can spam power crushes. I’m dreading the day I face an Alisa who knows how to actually use lows
Then you will have mixed results finding Alisa players on ranked. Because there are just who don't get her and use goofy stuff or those who know at least some basic stuff about her, myself included.
It took me over 400 games to get mighty ruler with Jun. I started playing Alisa a month or 2 ago and I’m already about to hit fujin in under 200 games. Never understood all the Jun hate minus the heat Smash, felt like the character was unreasonably hated. Now that I’m playing Alisa the hatred actually feels justified And it’s crazy people are now just catching on in tekken 8
As a Jun player, the heat smash was honestly the only real broken move she had and that it's been driven to the ground no plays her even tho she's still really strong will climb rank again with her when everyone forgets the match up
Reaching fujin when your a tekken emperor should not be that surprising. Your naturally gonna be better at the game when you have 400 games into a character. Can confirm the hatred for Jun is pretty well justified too
They won’t nerf her until Bandai Namco decides to remaster Xenosaga, until then, the Tekken team lets the Kos-Mos adjacent character to be lore accurate.
Some of u say she dodged nerfs. I can explain: Nerfs today are all about data, not co.munity. If a character has over 50% winrate, the most played combo or move getting nerfed. Now a char is very popular, we have alot more data to work with and the adjustments are easy to make. Play what u hate and spam the best move to hopfully force a nerf. Im new to tekken, and love it. Best community i ever joined.
Azucena is one of those characters that are just naturally annoying for reasons I personally can't pinpoint (she's just annoying alright?) But atleast she have her own distinct personality and move list, nor another Plain Jul- Jane
I don't understand why people hate cuteness in videogames, they always treat cuteness as a crime, something that shouldn't exist and something that should be erased in videogames, even more in fighting games. If the female character don't have 4 big personalities they hate it, but If it does they love it and simp it till death. Players only like that and badass woman to step on them. I like Alissa since I watched the cgi movie and If I could play this game I would make her one of my mains because of her design and personality.
In this case its not the cute, but rather what the cute is attached too. Lucky Chloe is the Tekken character people love to hate just because she is "cute".
Maybe stop making characters that are supposed to be cute, annoying or fucking cringey in the process. You know whose cute ? Kirby. People love kirby, he isnt annoying, hes powerful and adorable. Xiaoyu Id argue is cute but she doesnt have an annoying gimmick to her character.
i dont mind cutesy lucky chloe or lili but alisa wasnt like this man, even knowing how to sidestep or block her chainsaw makes you wanna block the player playing them lol AND WHY NO NERF?!
Alisa is actually my favorite character, she's been my main since T6. :P Haven't gotten my hands on T8 yet, so I can't comment on her in that, but from my experience with previous games in the franchise, I do see why she gets a lot of hate. I'm just personally a fan of Alisa *exactly because* she's such a powerful character, but that's not to say I'm biased. With her already being so powerful, it isn't exactly fair to *not* nerf Alisa while arguably even more powerful characters (if there are any) get that treatment. She was never nerfed in T7 either as far as I recall.
I have no issue with fighting Alisa. I thought the hate on her was more meme based than merit based honestly. If she is so strong, oppressive and op, where are all the Alisas in the tournament scene? Gentleman's agreement to pass on the best character in the game when playing for price money? I think not :V I feel like you can always just power crush her in chainsaw anyway.
People just don't know how to play against her because she's "tricky" i only lost to Alisa 1 time on ranked while having 300 hours in Tekken 8 unlike Bryan who always catches me in counter hit honestly i would prefer like to fight Alisa instead of Bryan.
I'm an Alisa main since her introduction. While she is basically free wins up until Fujin +, I think that firmly stops around Bushin. Once you start fighting people that know the matchup, she's pretty hard to win with IMO. Bc so much of her gameplay involves her being in the air she's extremely easy to float with jabs. Also her wall combos are bad.
Being floatable would be nice if it didnt gimp the damage of a full combo by 60+ percent. Same reason why the slides got nerfed. Way too much reward for basically no risk.
As an Alisa main i approve this video. lololol. I love this character been using her since her introduction to Tekken and I love what they have done to her in Tekken 8 she was always a secret S-Tier but now that the nerfs happens she will finally rise to the top where she belongs. Alisa shall reign supreme
As an Alisa main, I know she hasnt been nerfed having really strong options compared to other characters. But in her defense, have you considered that Alisa mains are gods favourite children? i hope this helps
*I honestly hate fighting King, Victor, Howwrange and Eddie more* Hell throw Dragonov into there These characters are annoying asf and have insanely busted moves that can easily be spammed multiple times. Frustrates me
Tell that to all the Virgil losers who still cream themselves over the most basic xfactor combo taking out a whole team off one random screen filling sword normal
Yeah but this stance is there to give her various 50/50 option and advantage on block... it just might be too much that she can also block in that stance, noone else has blocking stance I believe.
@@dreday6320 I honestly don't get the deal with chainsaws either? Like, you don't even need a confirmed hit. Just a single jab/kick takes her outta the stance. Sure it's easy to get back into it but if the guy's gonna be spamming one way or another to get back into it just adapt from that and punish it unless you're up against a top 1% that goes into chainsaws every other move.
I can absolutely admit i hate Alisa. I never really liked her as a character and facing her made me hate her more. I'm just not fond of her as a whole 😅
They better not nerf her lmao I remember when I was little and played tekken, not knowing much about it. Alisa caught my eye, maybe I was like 8 or something. I come back to it years later, now joining the tekken community, and she's one of my favorites. Been with her since day one lmao😭
I used to think Yoshimitsu was unpredictable until I fought Alisa. What even is Neutral? What is this fabled legend called, "My turn?" Tekken is a fighting game? This whole time I thought it was a "How long will it take before I die while blocking?" game. Believe me she was range 4 came with diving chainsaws, range 0. I blinked once she was range 3. I blick again and got hellswept, uninstalled.
Whilst I'll occasionally come across taunting scrubby main characters running Victor or Hwoarang, you don't need to learn the match up too much to have a fighting chance to take them down, usually by learning when to duck their key strings. Alisa mains are next level scrub, and consistently have the worst BM out of all of them.
Facts I went against a taunting trash Alisa one time she had 2 rounds and I had zero then I made a 3 round come back ending with a perfect(with Steve before buffs) and hit a fat ki charge best Tekken 8 moment ever
duck and jab. all you have to do is duck and jab! also this guy put CHANEL gameplay up who literally the best Alisa main in the world. of course she's looks strong. Devil Jin looks s-tier when you put momodog gameplay up too
@@nw6358 Alisa is a very strong character much stronger then devil Jin but the reason ppl hate her isnt cuz she's strong it's cuz of how easy and cheap she is and if you try to crouchjab after her plus on block high that links into itself you get launched by her plus 5 on block mid launcher
I've liked alisa for years (since tekken 6) but I'm not that good at the game, so I'm in complete shock that people hate fighting her( although I think it's because I'm not that active in the tekken community) Edit: I also think Alisa and Lars are adorable
when you mentioned Alisa's voicelines being traumatizing, all that popped into my head was hearing "AAH AAH AAH AAH AAH" when she does her chainsaw attacks or dash attacks
Tbh I don't give a fuck how annoying it is to play against her every damn time. The fact that she ain't another Julia is already enough reason put her on my top 2
This might be a hot take and I know people are gonna attack me for saying this but.......I kinda like this character. She's one of my favorite Tekken characters.
I never enjoyed fighting this character. Something felt particularly off and cheap about her, couldn’t really put into words what it was. This explains things very well.
The character just forces you to think about situations differently. Her pop-up wake up is one of them. As a Paul main, I want to rush in and force a 50/50 on wake-up, but this pop-up wake up that Alisa has just destroys me, as it looks nothing like the rest of the cast. I have a buddy that plays Alisa, and has flowcharted his way up to Fujin. Playing against him is frustrating and annoying, but I am now getting more wins than loses when I play against him.
As an alisa main, I'll be the first to admit she's a dang good character. But I disagree with people saying she's brain dead. I mean, 1 dik jab takes her out of saws, and it's usually really easy to do, too. Chainsaws, yes, are really good in terms of stance pressure, but even the saw hell sweep has a major flaw, im not going to talk about 😅 but there are counter plays alot of her moves are parryable and she's weak to sidesteps in normal stance I mean watch the gameplay in the video
@qaraniqioqaraniqio2542 my solicitor has asked me not to speak further. But if you lan her and set it so she consistently doing a hell sweep you'll find out eventually if you are abt garyu level
@@Boogard nah she aint getting nerfed cuz bro i have mained her for 15 years and she has been a menace for those 15 and Bamco have never given her any substantial nerfs and why would they do it now 😂😂😂
I'm watching this right now after matching up with 3 Alisas in a row for the echo chamber lmao. Imma try playing her because I always forget the punishes if I just watch the anti-alisa guides. With this method, I get to know her game plan and read a little of what buttons they're gonna press to punish them better. :D
Joined the Tekken community by... Tekken 8, so I'm a total Tekken noob. Alisa was the first character I put some real effort into learning. Tried a bunch of fighters, but she feels really smooth, responsive, well-rounded. I'm no top-tier player in any shape or form, but I'm having a ton of fun with her, both winning and losing.
It's okay, it's a hidden top tier bcs you don't see her high in tournament and it's far far faaaaar to be the most played character, meaning I suppose that meta slave don't really deem her worth their time :o Play what you like and don't bother minding peoples opinion, and have fun! :D
The reason why Alisa's concept is very out of place was revealed on a talk with Dai Sato from Digital Frontier (the animation producer that makes the intros, endings and all cinematics of the Tekken games since the arcade version of Tekken 6), Sato is the director of the Blood Vengeance Movie (a movie that you will enjoy if you are a diehard fan of Xiaoyu and Alisa, if that's not the case, then just search the final battles of the movie between Heihachi, Kazuya and Jin,, is very well produced. And if you are a fan of lost media, it's spanish dub is lost media so get fun searching for it) and asked Harada how he came with Alisa. Harada say that Alisa took 5 minutes to be created as a concept, Harada really wanted a robotic character with detachable limbs, even the torso was gonna be detachable. He was not sure about how to develop that idea but he was sure of two things 1) The robotic character needed to have detachable limbs 2) It has to be a woman. If you look for some concepts arts of Alisa you can find that one of her concepts looks like Katarina Alves from Tekken 7. Probably Alisa is the only character who didn't pass to market studies and the months or even years of development to be created as the rest of the characters, she is there because the developers wanted to be there. She wasn't made to fit an specific market, she was made to fit the developers. Source: Remember when i told about Tekken Blood Vengeance? The extras section includes the interviews Harada have with Sato, so you if you want you can hear word by word how Harada created Alisa
Do people actually think it's possible for a character concept to be "out of place" in Tekken? A game where fighting bears, dinosaurs, kangaroos, robots (before Alisa), cyborgs, cyborg-samurai-ninjas, possessed wood-fighters, monsters, weird ghosts (whatever Unknown was) and literal devils have been present as playable characters for most, if not all, of the lifespan of the series? Seeing aliens, zombies, time-travelers etc. in this game would hardly be surprising at this point. "Harada say that Alisa took 5 minutes to be created as a concept[...]". Which is literally the case for most characters. Do you actually think more than one minute has passed to come up with the concept of a character like Hwo? "We need a taekwondo guy in our game". "We need a Jackie Chan/Bruce Lee character": Lei/Law. "We need a boxer": Steve. "We need a sumo-wrestler": Ganryu. "We need a ninja: Raven". "We need a serious military dude: Drag". And so on and so forth. Coming up with the idea for a character rarely takes up a long time, but fleshing out the character always does, Alisa is no exception. "If you look for some concepts arts of Alisa you can find that one of her concepts looks like Katarina Alves from Tekken 7." Another nothingburger disguised as an argument. Are you actually surprised by the fact that SOME early concept arts (plural!) may end up looking different than the fleshed out character? Take a look at Jins early concept arts and spot the differences for yourself. "[...]she is there because the developers wanted to be there". This has to be the most stupid thing I've read this week. How do you think the other characters made their way into the game - by the devs not wanting them to be there? Can you come up with proof that "market studies" were the deciding factor for even a single character appearing (!) in a Tekken game? I'm not talking about coming up with a concept art and slapping on a certain nationality because of "market studies", which apparently isn't the case as well because we don't see characters from countries like Pakistan for example. The Tekken devs do whatever the hell they want when it comes to characters and it will stay like this until hell freezes over.
@@mukkrustle8587 The issue isn't the character concepts, its their kit. The " bears, dinosaurs, kangaroos, robots (before Alisa)" you're talking about fall into 1 of 2 categories, the ones that are in the game outside of Alisa for most part have a kit that still falls in line with Tekken as a fighting game, the other ones which are similar to Alisa that arent in the game are: Dr.B(tekken 3), roger/alex, gon, etc don't exist in the modern franchise specifically because Harada says in the modern competitive enviorment they can't brin out those out of the norm gimicky characters. Its not that Alisa kit is out of place in tekken, shes out of place in MODERN TEKKEN. I'm not even saying shes broken or OP or whatever Im just saying her fighting kit doesn't really belong in modern Tekken, or even Tekken for most part.
As someone who got their start in Tekken playing T8 Alisa, I think it's kinda funny how little I actually utilized the chainsaws in my own gameplay. They were kinda my least favorite aspect of her to *play* as. Eventually, some friends and I wanted to try playing T6, but none of my combos carried over at all so I decided to switch and learn Lili. Now I am LEGS
Didnt watch the video, but liked and subscribed presuming the long and short of it is: 1) at no distance am i safe 2) when the chainsaws come out i lose my turn for a long time, disrupting my pressure and concentration. t. Alisa main 😊
Alisa was one of my mains in 7 and has been my main so far in 8. I really dig how many different options she has for attack, and almost all her moves involve trickery that throws off opponents. But no matter the character, I can find a mode of attack that’ll work, and generally work well. I still come across those that are just better players than I am, but I’m no slouch, either. My Alisa is feared.
(( at high lvls it’s in the chip damage and the fast mobility of the chainsaws and the lockdown pressure that she does and they gimme-key moves For low levels … it’s most of her moves doing so much knockdown and leading into a follow-up combo, the jab combo that leads into a blow job that does knock down into follow up…. Her up leg sweep up ⬆️ that also comes down ⬇️ in case you missed the first one which leads into a knockdown follow up…. And. The one I hate the most that stupid air sweep that leads into so many follow-ups and just wins the match. I swear you could never tell when it’s coming out. It just comes out way too fast for us. Low levels to react to it there’s just not enough animation for us to realize it’s coming….😢💔
Yeah ever since I am 14 and growing up playing Tekken 6, I grew to love Alisa, mastering her and also annoying my uncle and cousin at family gatherings. Upto now, she's still the only character I've mastered. But currently making progress with King and Jin this year. (Sorry for some words or grammatical errors, I'm a filipino and English is my second language)
I played Tekken 1- Tekken Tag religiously and then dropped out until T8. This character almost made me delete the game the first time I played against her online.
I am a completely filthy casual and usually kne that prefers sf but tekken 8 vibed with me and this character just tickels all my itches. I cant wait to get home and get my full time ork + family 1-2 hours at night to spam her absurdly ridicolous moves throwing around her own head. Sign me up alisa at least one guy likes zou
@@thedarkderp2520I love Tekken and yeah it’s frustrating sometimes but goddamn I have never seen a fandom that bitches and moans THIS much. It’s like they enjoy crying more than actually playing and having fun.
And yet she is SOOOOOO EASY to counter! but lets all just ignore all the fast characters that can attack nonstop even if your on plus and the characters that can slap you from one side to the other of the stage with one little combo!
When I figured out Alisa wasn't a joke...my strategy was simple pick up the character, purge her standard costume along with the pink and use the demon to climb. The strategy so far has worked I am picking up Dragunov as a backup in case she's rendered useless. All of this happened after Reina and King were nerfed and it made me panic I was like ok Whose simple has high mobility and heinous damage with decent range that can be used as a Reina substitute in case she's rendered useless. It seemed Alisa was the answer granted there is one HEAVY price I pay for picking her up one that I cannot solve. Alisa's voice and personality are almost more cringe than her kit granted it definitely does an edge of mental damage to an opponent Dragunov has a similar power with his win poses.
@@tableprinterdoor I use Lars trust me he’s not a threat. Especially when you understand his stance transitions and can react to his slow ass lows like SE 2 he can only open you up with Lows that don’t do any damage and everytime he uses it it’s death for him . This is why you don’t see any Lars in a tournament but Alisa is always present
I’m an Alisa main and I often get refused rematches. Now I know why! I actually feel kind of proud that people hate to play my character. One thing I must say as an Alisa main is that her primary weakness is her shorter length and lower variety of air combos compared to almost every other character. In this sense I always feel at a disadvantage, so I rely heavily on her movement and chainsaws to compensate. I love her sweet personality and ridiculous moves (some are so silly that they’re kind of useless) and that she has an answer to almost all annoying plays like throw spamming and incessant high mid blocking. Her booster sidestep also makes her the only character other than Yoshimitsu that can dodge the rage art which is so satisfying, since the rage art is easily the worst thing in Tekken.
you also forgot to tell how extremely punisheable she is. but for me alisa is okay like that. i would only appreciate if in the next patch they nerfed her chip damage and take that stupid hellsweep out of the game.
So... why would you not press a button when Alisa is -9 from a blocked DES1? (I'm new at Alisa and don't know my options, but I do know I have to block after my DES1 gets blocked, or I die)
I play both alisa and yushi its really easy to counter them it just need to practice against them . My friend used to hate me because of that but when he learned the basics behind them i get destroyed almost every game from him only 😂
As a Alisa main you have no right to say she's easy to counter she's one of the most braindead annoying characters in any fighting game and should be removed
This video was pretty on the nose. As an average player that got a lot of hate in seven it burns me up that characters like this and eddy exist, but it’s also nice to not get messages about how cheese I am
I played easily over 1k hours of tekken 5 as a kid and some tekken 7 with friends so i have some understanding of fundamentals and how to catch new players, I figured a lot of stuff out with my cousin & friends as kids without the internet. tekken 8 is the first game in a long time i play more and i liked alisa's moveset in tekken 7 and played her sometimes so i started playing her in tekken 8 as my first char and got to ruler ranks in 4 days. I thought damn i'm better than i thought (my defense is decent) but after trying other characters i've been humbled. Alisa really is pretty easy and the fact that many people don't really know her moveset is also a big advantage. been stuck at battle ruler for some days now and it's nice to have good opponents, but oftentimes they'll just spam me away with things i should have figured out by now and i can't learn any other char online for fun right now cuz the ranks of other chars get adjusted xD
Hey, Boogard fun fact the voice actor for Alisa is actually the same voice actress for Orihime from the anime Bleach. Now why did I bring this up? "Kurosaki-kun" traumatized an anime viewing audience. Isn't that just ironic? Now I digress but I myself am an Alisa main and I will say this. I have always said Alisa is a great beginner character for some who really strugglin'. It's really the ease of use and don't get me wrong she can struggle but I have no bias because hilariously enough? I actually main her because I...well...hate her. I use to be an Eddy player and her uf3 could consistently crush relax stance and...yeah I had to lab her and I got mad and thought she was OP and I'd might aswell use her hilariously enough but yeah I also play many other characters before anyone else's comes at meh...I know I'ma see hate~! LOOK~! My true main is Yoshimitsu. I have Leo, Nina, Law, Miguel, King, A.King, and I can do most Mishima's...I just like the character...plus...doom music man.
She certainly is easy comparing her to my time with Ling. Her combos can consist of mostly a simple UF1. When cornered she can B1+2 then fight her way out with chainsaws. I still enjoy fighting her but I think that's because I used her myself.
What do you guys think about Alisa in this game? Also let me know which character you want to see covered next

Never understood all the Jun hate minus the heat Smash, felt like the character was unreasonably hated. Now that I’m playing Alisa the hatred actually feels justified And it’s crazy people are now just catching on in tekken 8
I got also got to fujin with her insanely fast lol
As a Jun player, the heat smash was honestly the only real broken move she had and that it's been driven to the ground no plays her even tho she's still really strong will climb rank again with her when everyone forgets the match up
Reaching fujin when your a tekken emperor should not be that surprising. Your naturally gonna be better at the game when you have 400 games into a character. Can confirm the hatred for Jun is pretty well justified too
Alisa is the real favorite child of the devs.
They just refuse to nerf her lol

They won’t nerf her until Bandai Namco decides to remaster Xenosaga, until then, the Tekken team lets the Kos-Mos adjacent character to be lore accurate.

Some of u say she dodged nerfs.
I can explain:
Nerfs today are all about data, not co.munity.
If a character has over 50% winrate, the most played combo or move getting nerfed. Now a char is very popular, we have alot more data to work with and the adjustments are easy to make.
Play what u hate and spam the best move to hopfully force a nerf.

Panda is cute. No one hates Panda.
Alisa is mostly hated because gameplay hating her for other things is just ignorance (she's the best female character in this game)
i dont mind cutesy lucky chloe or lili but alisa wasnt like this man, even knowing how to sidestep or block her chainsaw makes you wanna block the player playing them lol AND WHY NO NERF?!
This video started off so informative but then it slowly turned into whining
5:59 "Full Bias incoming."
I have no issue with fighting Alisa. I thought the hate on her was more meme based than merit based honestly. If she is so strong, oppressive and op, where are all the Alisas in the tournament scene? Gentleman's agreement to pass on the best character in the game when playing for price money? I think not :V
I feel like you can always just power crush her in chainsaw anyway.
I'm currently Tekken King with her
Just false
Being floatable would be nice if it didnt gimp the damage of a full combo by 60+ percent. Same reason why the slides got nerfed. Way too much reward for basically no risk.
Aint gonna lie, this is the first time I ever heard anything about Alisa being hated. All I kept hearing was King
As an Alisa main i approve this video. lololol.

"If you look for some concepts arts of Alisa you can find that one of her concepts looks like Katarina Alves from Tekken 7."
Another nothingburger disguised as an argument.
The fact that only way to counter her is returning to warm-up after a match is insane. We need more counter options than this
As someone who got their start in Tekken playing T8 Alisa, I think it's kinda funny how little I actually utilized the chainsaws in my own gameplay.
I like her design, I just hate how she feels constantly plus and the chip damage is a executed poorly for everyone but especially her.
unpopular opinion but her Tekken 6 design is better then her tekken 8 design lol
(( at high lvls it’s in the chip damage and the fast mobility of the chainsaws and the lockdown pressure that she does and they gimme-key moves
For low levels … it’s most of her moves doing so much knockdown and leading into a follow-up combo, the jab combo that leads into a blow job that does knock down into follow up….

Im alisa main, my friends hated me everytime we play tekken 8. She is the perfect combination of speed, damage, air combos and range.
She certainly is easy comparing her to my time with Ling. Her combos can consist of mostly a simple UF1. When cornered she can B1+2 then fight her way out with chainsaws. I still enjoy fighting her but I think that's because I used her myself.
Alisa player here, I wish other buttons were better than UF1. There's all these cool looking moves but just pressing UF1 twice is almost always better
