Oh wow...I used to watch Weinerville as a kid but it was never my favorite, and now I can see why. That said, it deserves credit for having a Hanukkah special and as an adult I'd probably appreciate the cartoons a lot more.
the lack of chanukah specials really is a shame. Neat looking back on this version, but I can't say I'll ever watch it on my own XD Thanks for posting!
I don't remember Weinerville being this obnoxious, but it has been awhile since I've seen it. Anyway, the fact that there's not a lot of Chanukah specials and the only known Chanukah movie and the most popular Chanukah song is by Adam Sandler. I do think that there should more Chanukah movies and specials.
Growing up in Canada, I never got a lot of other Nickelodeon shows outside of all the major NickToons and the odd game show/live action thing. Didn't get Weinerville, and going by its execution, it seemed like I didn't miss much.
I remember when the phrase "Merry Christmas" was used as an expression of sincere goodwill, not as a backhanded way of saying "fuck you." I must be old. Also, the war on Christmas is fake, but the wars on Thanksgiving and Halloween are very real.
I remember way, way back when this first came out. Or rather, I remember the commercials for it. I did actually see the special...once. And it was the tail-end of it where they were singing about the menorah. That's hilarious though that Brian O'Connor was in the special. I was a HUGE Shining Time Station fan as a kid, and I probably would have recognized him.
@@xxthatsnotmexx Unwrapped. That was actually my introduction and the only thing I knew him for before I saw Nick Knacks. Definitely an Early 2000s Nick kid.
I’m Jewish, so when I saw the ads for this I could not have been more excited, and when I saw it I could not have been more confused, but I saw the analogy.
I recall Pee-Wee's Playhouse having a Xmas special that mentioned Hanukkah via one of it's cast members who stopped by to tell Pee-Wee she couldn't make it to his Christmas party and gave him a Dreidel as her gift (this was 1988 for reference).
I saw a Visual Kei Japanese music video in 2005 that reminded me Weinerville existed & was not just a childhood fever dream. For the life of me, I cannot remember what band it was.
Thank you! This was a really nice surprise. I think I'm off to see the rugrats special, now. I don't remember it at all, but then, I was pretty young...
These days, Hanukkah movies and supporting characters who celebrate Hanukkah are standard in holiday T.V. movies. The best ones are Love Lights Hanukkah, Hanukkah on Rye, & Eight Gifts of Hanukkah. I'm a Pagan and even we sort of have some representation. The Netflix miniseries Dash & Lily has a Shogatsu celebration, and also a Hanukkah celebration. Hallmark has a movie called Holly & Ivy, that's centered around the Law of Attraction. The horror movies Krampus and A Christmas Horror Story have Krampus. And of course holiday elves and gnomes are Pagan. The Hallmark movie Joyeux Noel has Christmas gnomes, for instance.
Out of curiosity when you talk about Weinerville will you talk about any of the cartoons it used to play? I noticed that you're talking about everything that Nickelodeon aired whether it was a channel exclusive or not so I was curious if you have any plans for talking about my favorite cartoon series Weinerville aired, Batfink. I admittedly liked the overall show as a kid and even find this special still entertaining, but my favorite part was always when they played a Batfink short towards the end. It broke my heart when they swapped it out for Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse.
Cool. Hanukkah gets a nod. Also.. I like being able to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays. =] Happy Holidays... meh. It's like saying tyftpagahh
Jesus man. I hope never to hear Donald Freaking Trump's voice on this channel again. Definitely would love to see the Rugrats special next year! Would also love to see a thing on the Rugrats Passover special. If there are very few Chanukah specials then there are certainly fewer Passover specials!
yeah IDK I never 'got' weinerville to be honest, but I do remember nick doing a couple hannukah-specific specials. have to appreciate them trying to include everyone. but yeah that voice would get annoying, haha.
Whenever someone brings up "the war on christmas" I have to point out that it was a Pagan holiday that was appropriated by Christians & is celebrated by more non-practicing christians & non-christians globally. They forced Christ into it & we took it back out.
I completely forgot about Weinerville and that's because I hated it with a passion, thank you for making me remember that living nightmare. With that being said, thanks for another great episode.
I looooove the irony at the beginning. Also the Cinema Snob did 2 episodes on “war on Christmas movies.” Last ounce of Coursge and Christmas with a Capital C which both his reviews are entertaining as hell.
the only thing i remember form this was the " who put snow on my floor" guy scaring me a a child. sad to hear the episode about the show proper is gonna be negative. i remember likeing this aa a child but looking back this thing has not aged well.
growing up with this show i can say that it has not aged well with me compared to most other 90s the mod 00s nick, no disrespect to mark weiner but this isway to over the top for and at least this was my exposure to the 2 batman spoof toons bat fink and my personal fave coraugous cat and minute mouse
The problem with the whole "people who don't celebrate Christmas" argument is that the majority of people DO, in fact celebrate Christmas in the US, as is true with Canada, Latin America, Australia, and Europe, and thus the politicized corporate push toward "happy holidays" has become problematic. I don't hold it against someone if they choose to say "happy holidays", but if they're telling someone else they have to say it to appease the minority-within-a-minority who actually feel offended, excluded, etc, about not being told "happy holidays", and that has ramifications such as people being reprimanded in the place of work, then we are, in fact, facing a "war on Christmas". Let people celebrate what they want, let people say what they want. It goes both ways.
You realize that even if you celebrate Christmas, there are multiple holidays during this time of year? New Years, Thanksgiving? This is a ridiculous argument.
Liberals don't exactly control their tempers themselves. Both sides need to grow up or shut up. That being said, whatever you celebrate, have a happy holiday, be safe and I hope you share it with someone you care about. Cheers.
Fun fact: Kevin Nash tore his quad filming that cameo
OMG Kevin Nash! WTF? Thought he was dead. LOL
Oh wow...I used to watch Weinerville as a kid but it was never my favorite, and now I can see why. That said, it deserves credit for having a Hanukkah special and as an adult I'd probably appreciate the cartoons a lot more.
Even as a kid in the 90's, Weinerville was just too bizarre for me.
the lack of chanukah specials really is a shame. Neat looking back on this version, but I can't say I'll ever watch it on my own XD Thanks for posting!

I used to really like Weinerville as a kid. Not sure what I would think nowadays though.
Something about this makes me really appreciate how Rugrats wasn't willing to have a Chanukah special until after their Passover special.
Growing up in Canada, I never got a lot of other Nickelodeon shows outside of all the major NickToons and the odd game show/live action thing. Didn't get Weinerville, and going by its execution, it seemed like I didn't miss much.
david johanson was also in the pete and pete episode on golden pete as a park ranger and he was awesome there
Poparena: This is the most obnoxious thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.
*slow clap* well done. You are, as always, a generous but incisive reviewer. The backdrop of context you provide certainly helps.
One of the few autographs I have is of Marc Weiner. I love this show and would put it in my Nick top 10!

I'll never get used to hearing Marc Summers's voice used for anything other than Double Dare.
He had a show on Food Network for awhile, forget what it was called but it was pretty good.

Im glad i saw this at the very end of Hanukkah

Thank you for making goosebumps and All your other videos. Can't wait to see the girl Who cried monster. 😊 Merry Christmas to you ☃️🎄🎅🌨️❣️☀️⛄
Boney Appeared in 1996 Kid Choice Awards on Time.
One of my Jewish friends told me once that Chanukah is less important than every Saturday, which might also explain the dearth of Chanukah specials.
Thank you! This was a really nice surprise. I think I'm off to see the rugrats special, now. I don't remember it at all, but then, I was pretty young...

The only noteworthy thing about Weinerville I could give is their use of throw up cartoons nobody asked for (but I loved it)!
7:57 What a pittance!

"... there's no war on Christmas..."
That's not true. There's a constantly waging war! And Christmas is the aggressor!
I'm starting to think I'm the only person who actually liked Weinerville. XD
Cool. Hanukkah gets a nod. Also.. I like being able to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays. =] Happy Holidays... meh. It's like saying tyftpagahh
Arthur's Perfect Christmas also has Chrismas,Chanukah and Kwanza
Man, I didn't realize 'til now that for Boney, he basically just used a Sam Kinison voice.
darn, no full episodes this week? oh darn, at least we got these two specials instead!
Jesus man. I hope never to hear Donald Freaking Trump's voice on this channel again.
Definitely would love to see the Rugrats special next year! Would also love to see a thing on the Rugrats Passover special. If there are very few Chanukah specials then there are certainly fewer Passover specials!
Agreed, was surprised to hear Trumpy.
Prince of Egypt was the best Jewish film I have ever seen
yeah IDK I never 'got' weinerville to be honest, but I do remember nick doing a couple hannukah-specific specials. have to appreciate them trying to include everyone. but yeah that voice would get annoying, haha.
well that sure was a thing

I remember being a child and HATING Weinerville. it was extremely creepy. Unsettling. And not funny. Dear God, you made me remember it existed.
And yet, some Jewish animators didn't mind working on Christmas specials anyway (it was a paycheck).
I completely forgot about Weinerville and that's because I hated it with a passion, thank you for making me remember that living nightmare. With that being said, thanks for another great episode.
I miss Weinerville, it was such a good, fun show.
And I know this is a year old comment, I just wanted to make you remember it again.
I look at Weinerville today and just wonder why the hell did I watch that show? Way too much screaming!
I refused to watch Weinerville just based on the commercials alone. I watched a lot of dumb stuff, but I had to draw the line *somewhere*.
And still, no Wienerville retrospective on Knick Knacks
He will do retrospective in a future episode, but right now he’s going through each show that aired on Nickelodeon in chronological order.
I never saw Weinerville, but when I hear there is a character named Boney, the 12 year old on me giggles.
I looooove the irony at the beginning.

Well said

Wouldn’t this be a Cha-Nick-ah special?
I remember liking the Rugrats special... This just looks obnoxious... Oh, wait, you say "obnoxious" in the description... Agreed...
I can only remember bits and pieces of the show, and I don't remember it being that annoying, if at all. Then again that was 2 decades ago.
Weinerville was probably my least favorite nick show from that era.

Non-Christian non-Jewish African-Americans should be celebrating Kwanzaa
Kwanza is least celebrated… for reasons
