Really enjoyed this restoration and especially the ride, I hope you like it. We have a few Italian bikes lined up, please leave a comment below what bikes you'd like to see on the channel or what you would like to see more of. Thank you for watching and all the support that you give it is much appreciated. All the best Andy
I work at a local LBS and I only work on used bicycles every day all day and still enjoy your uploads I’m so burned out the Covid bicycle rush but I still find your uploads entertaining I do the same thing every day, I’m so glad to recycle bikes so they don’t end up in the land fill process!
I literally saved a bike from the local tip a couple of months ago. It was filthy and rusty the guy was skipping it - btwin triban 3 alloy frame carbon forks shimano tiagra groupset mavic wheels ritchie hubs. I spent £50 refurbishing cables and bearings and its now my favourite bike amongst other good stuff. I call her Skippy! :)
You have a 1987 Olmo Corsica. With Oria tubing. I got one on my 17th birthday from Woody's Bicycle World in Los Angeles. Mine was blue with full Campagnolo Victory and Galli wheels. You're going to love the ride quality, Andy! Enjoy.
Hello again Andy.... just wanted to thank you for always taking the time to respond to all of us... it doesn't go unnoticed Best regards always.....Rudy
Very nice!!!! I assume this is a mid-'80's version??? The paint job is SPECTACULAR!!!...I also noticed that on the ride there were no original Christophe toe clips....lol..
Thanks yes mid 80’s, I swap the pedals over for the ride just simply because they fit my shoe fitting and are a lot safer and easier to use when filming. Thanks for your support much appreciated 👍
Thanks Scott, glad you like it. The bike is actually a viewer bike, which I am restoring for him. Wish it was mine, it's a stunner. Thanks for the support all the best
I am yet again amazed at this restoration you have just completed Andy. It really does stand out from the crowd - so to speak, and looks absolutely stunning . Chapeau !
Very nice frame but for aesthetic reasons I don't care for mixing different manufacturers and different gruppos on the same bike. [Thanks for showing your friend Mitch's vintage bike collection - astounding , has to be the best collection in the world ! Every bike lover should watch it.]
Another really great video, Andy. Congratulations! I have to say that those with Italian frames and Campagnolo group sets are my favourites so loved this one. Keep 'em coming!
Andy did my ears detect a Duran Duran Come Undone remix? By now you must have a sizeable collection of high end quality bikes? Italian bikes are my fave.
I have a selected few in the collection. A lot of the time they get sold the day after the video goes live. I couldn’t keep them all and they genuinely fund the next project 👍
Stunning restoration, all the way down to the factory details and period-correct components. You have kept this bike faithful to its original brilliance!
Great stuff - just discovered your channel! In the late 90s I had a Denver Spoke ('84 Alexi Grewal LA Olympics build as well) built De Rosa Replica '57 thin tubed, fully lugged "speciale" Columbus steel frame with 8-speed 12-23 Record. This frame was rumored to having been built by Ugo himself. Also my birth year....how happy was I? What a sweet bike...best ride was the infamous one day Denver-Aspen Classic ride - 202 miles, with over 13K of climbing, to above 12,000 ft, in around 13 hours. My buddy had a gorgeous Master Lite in blue, with the 3-leaf clovers and Ernesto signature, chrome fork, full Record as well, and we rode the foothills above Denver and into the high mountains on countless "credit card" rides.....Those bikes had a soul that just became a part of you, and were the best bikes in the history of bikes.....and were the best days of my life. That was also back when you could buy or build out an Italian classic with Record for around $3500. I'll pass on offering my opinion of the Chinese carbon bike industry today....
Your past rides sound amazing, Who doesn’t love a period Colnago or De Rosa I hope you have subscribed because this weekend I’m show casing a collection of bikes your not going to want to miss. Thanks again for your support all the best 👍
Hi Andy - Kudos from New York City on a wonderful Olmo bike restoration. Your love and enthusiasm is truly felt. Question, if you would, what brand/type of pedals did you use on this restoration? All the best.
Curious here. What would a lovely restored piece of rolling art like this OLMO bring if if were for sale? Richard in Atlanta, GA. Love the enthusiasm. Ride safe-have fun!!
Another great restoration and beautiful paint job Andy. Actually, that is how they used to wrap the bars back then. The tape was so thin and wrapped very tight that, it did not come unravelled. And, in the 50's / 60's they would finish it off with twine and shallac the tape and twine when they finished wrapping them. Jim
Wow wow wow Andy! That bike is a stunner! What a beautiful build - typically top class workmanship! Love watching these videos, always good to watch an expert at work! Bring on the next one
Another great restoration of another great bike. Keep them coming please Andy. Only issue is as with previous bikes you are setting the brake hoods etc to low on the bars. The bottom of the brake level should be inline with the bottom of the drop. (Ie) if you were to put a ruler along the flat bottom of the drops the lower tip of the brake lever should be exactly in line. At the moment the tip is beyond and lower than that horizontal plane.
Another great video Andy thank you. That bike Looks as good as the day it was made. I could tell that you really enjoyed the test ride by smiles. These bikes have such character cheers 🍻
My first high end road bike was an Olmo back in the 1980’s. Beautiful lilac-blue color. Shimano 105 I think. Tires as thin as hair and saddle as hard as brick. Used to go 90K every morning to prepare for my rides. Hands were never comfortable though due to the vibrations.
The good old days 😉 I find it a good thing to remember where we’ve come from. Hope brought back some fond memories also. Thanks for your support all the best
Wow ! Andy, that paint job. The first peek, of that paint, when the bottom bracket area was shown, was stunning. That fork crown, seems to make a smooth transition to the fork. Great details . Thank you. Ken.
Glad you enjoyed it, yes the paint work is something else. Mark from MRCreations is such a bonus to have on board. Thanks for your support much appreciated
Beautiful restoration Andy, you can see the time and effort you put into restoring them. Lovely paint job from Mark again too, it really finishes it off.
another stunning restoration Andy, the paint and groupset really sparkles and the bar tape just sets it all off perfectly! top work, great video, cheers
What a fantastic bike and love the kit as well, you have inspired me to restore my Vitus 992 Ovoid, which I am really pleased with as I followed many of your working practices and tips, so thank-you for your great videos, so please keep cracking on ....
Thats amazing to hear, thanks buddy means a lot. Hope you enjoyed it as much as i did with this one, just wished I could keep it. All the best and thanks for your support
I too prefer wrapping from the top. Several of my vintage bikes came wrapped like that when new and I think it looks much cleaner that way since you don’t need finishing tape. In my experience it stays nice and tight as well if you do it properly😎 Great video as always🙏
Beautiful restoration, love the paint and the wheelset. Your polishing is spot on as always ! When using thin Benotto type tape it looks and feels better top to drops. Thick leather or cork types work better drops to top. Awesome ! Your enthusiasm always makes me smile. 😁👍👍👍
The bicycle turned out incredibly. I usually do not take bikes that I know I'm going to repaint. however I absolutely love my Raleigh Competition GS and I am sending that one out. Much easier paint than that OLMO! Great video. I'm envious of your style and ability!
Excellent restoration! That paint jobs badass. No decals, looks amazing. As for suggestions on future restoration’s. Maybe it would be interesting to try and get something really old? Most of your restorations seem to be 80s. 80s bikes are my favourite, but a full restoration of a 50s or 60s bike would be really cool!
Thanks for your support and suggestion, I am currently half way through a 1970’s Holdsworth. Never done earlier than that 🤔🚲 many thanks all the best 👍
I love restoring vintage bicycles but the part I love the most is always the last one - riding them :) Great bike, I'd love to see one made by ZZR (especially Jaguar model) restored by You. I remember that Jaguar was made up to win the Peace Race in 1956 and it actually did. Even though Poland didn't win as a team, Stanisław Królak was first Polish overall winner. I doubt it would be easy to obtain that model outside Poland or other post Soviet countries.. but who knows? I can find sometimes bicycles or parts I wouldn't ever expect to find here. Keep the good work!
Thanks for watching and your support glad you liked it. The Jaguar race sounds interesting. Not sure if I remember that, I’ll have to do a Google search and have a look 🤔👍 Thanks again all the very best
Super-nice resto again, Andy. You’re quite right about the bar tape. In the 80-s the “factory” wrap was usually done from the top down. Especially Italian bikes. (On post 90s bikes I wrap bottom to top. ) Keep up the vids!
Frame paint finish is stunning Andy, but I always think you could do with the next frame size up. Totally agree with you starting the bar tape is neater from the top as it does away with insulation tape. I had some 1987 Mavic MA40 wheels from Halfords as a teenager.
Hi Andy…beautiful Olmo and restoration. I love the paint work and polish. I would love to see what you would do with a Vitus 979. I have one so am very curious on what to consider for an aluminium frame. I would also suggest getting yourself an ultrasonic cleaner and use a cleaning solvent that you filter with a coffee filter and reuse. That can be had for less than $100 Cdn on eBay for a 2L. It does an unbelievable job cleaning and a lot easier on the hands…taken care and looking forward to your next resto. All the best from Western Canada.
Hello Trevor, thanks for your support glad you like it. I'll have to look into the cleaner you mentioned. I have already done a 979 you can watch it here. ruclips.net/video/Gez5oR6i_hE/видео.html Thanks again hope your having a great weekend all the best
@@BikeItUK Yeah I noticed that after the fact 🤔 The one I have has the grey anodized colour so not sure what I will do to jazz it up but I will. The cleaners are called Ultrasonic Cleaners…used very widely for jewelry and watch cleaning. They do an unbelievable job and with the number of cleanings you do it will easily pay for itself in no time and a hell of a lot easier on the hands. A lot of car guys use them as well. Cheers.
Nice one buddy, very much appreciated. Glad you liked the build, and I'll be getting the mitts sent over the water to you on Monday. Many thanks hope you have a great weekend. Happy peddling buddy
that Benotto tape is getting harder and harder to find - costs a fortune!! I would wrap from the bottom and then burn / melt the ends to finish - I think that's how they got the wrapped from the top look
Thanks for the tip, yes the price is becoming crazy. I only have two sets left 🤔 the choice will be hard regarding picking the restorations they go on.
Beautiful restoration and a stunning bike all around. I love the crankset. Gipiemme right? Also, are the pedals campagnolo track? I would love to see some vintage track bike restorations. Crack on!
Restoration has nicely turned out. My only nitpick is the choice of the font on Olmo logo - it just happens to look like the original, but is far from looking the same.
Top notch video Andy , wow that paint job makes the bike look new ! . For total geeks like me could you perhaps say what tubing it is , slx or sl or 531 or gas pipe . gear ratio . Hate to mention but the black outer for the rear mech takes it down to 9.9 out of 10 . Bet you did not want to give this one back .
Thanks Nick glad you liked it, yes the paint work really is something else. The tubing is Oria hi tension tubing, used by a few Italian frame builders I believe. The gear ratio is 52/42 and Id have to go and count for the back, small well it felt that way climbing that hill at the end. Thanks again all the best
Love these videos, but, personally, unless the bike was previously molested with a non original paint job, I’d never, ever, ever, repaint an original frame. Especially this one. My heart sank when I saw that. The most I’ll do is spot touch-ups for minor rust or chips. Personally, I love the look of older, well used paint jobs. Having said that, pro repainted frames do look great, and I totally get why some people choose to go that route.
I’m completely with you regarding touching up and what I normally do. It’s better and also a lot cheaper. However on the frame it all looked great to begin with until I realised the majority of the rear drive stay had been painted. Which went into the paint fade, and on the other side someone had also painted in white over the red fade. So this was my reasoning 🤔 thanks for watching and your support
Thanks for watching, to polish the frame I use a product called T-cut it’s used in the car industry to remove scratches. Make sure not to rub down on and decals/stickers though 👍
Beautiful. Love what you did here with what I assume is a valuable bike. I'm curious to know how far you would go to restore a lower end bike such as a Peugeot UO-8? Exported in massive numbers in the '70s, these excellent bikes are still plentiful but can present greater difficulties than, say, a PX-10. Partly because they are not terribly valuable. For example, the forks tend to be bent and must often be replaced, the cottered Atala cranks seize up and have to be drilled off, the knuckles on the MAFAC "Racer" brakes can be cracked and require substitutes. Then there's the issue of topical rust all over the frame for which respraying or powder coating are too great an investment. (Yes, I am speaking from personal experience.) You do such smooth professional work, Andy, what would you do with a bike that presents greater difficulties?
Where can i obtain a set of peel off transfers from for my 1970's race bike, the current ones are curling up at the edges and is not a usual make of 531 frame. any suggestions? thanks
@@BikeItUK Thanks for your suggestion, as the bike is from a small bike builder who no longer is with us, am going contact H. loud if they can help, my other thought was to use a scalpel knife to carefully cut them back a little just to smarten them up, but thanks for your response, appreciated
Cool Andy. Top notch work. Theres a british bike company called Orro and they used to make a steel reynolds 853 racing bike called the "Ferrum" it was available with campag or shimano 105. I believe the fork was not 853 but just plain steel. The bike was discontinued in 2020 i think or 2021. Whats your opinion of 853 tubing. Would love to know what you think.
Hi matey, thanks for tuning is your continued support is appreciated. Regarding the 853 tubing, honestly Ive never really had any involvement with it. I've not owned a 753 yet either, its definitely on the list. I'll have to look up Orro maybe chase one down. Thanks agin buddy all the best
Beautiful bike I also have a blue and white olmo ❤ Do you pls have a link for the white pearl handlebar tape I wanna buy it cnt find it 😕 also want to buy front and rear the pair of campagnolo skewers if anyone ? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for mentioning the bar wrap! I was thinking “NO!!!” with Benotto bar tape, but I recognize that just because I always do it one way, there is another! Btw, I usually apply a very thin layer of rubber cement before wrapping with Benotto ribbon, as it helps with slippage. :)
First class as always Andy, I’ve spoken to MRCREATIONS about spraying a bike of mine and thought the prices are quite reasonable considering the work involved. Keep up the good work m8
Honestly cannot recommended Mark enough, and like you said when you consider the amount of work that goes into the finished article. Glad you liked the Olmo thanks for your support
Thanks Andy I was just wondering if it was just petrol or if it was a mixture of both petrol and paraffin, since I saw it in one of your Raleigh videos. On that note what is the mixture or paraffin or in the petrol for?
Really enjoyed this restoration and especially the ride, I hope you like it. another beauty 👌cinnelli bars & stem rolls saddle 👍it was a trend to have our levers lower in the 80s for some reason🤔
Thanks for watching and the support, yes it definitely was the look 🚲

Cheers.
Nice job
Thanks 🙏
Nice one Andy. Absolutely stunning in the end. ( I've just ordered a set of mitts from you too🤘)
Nice one buddy, very much appreciated. Glad you liked the build, and I'll be getting the mitts sent over the water to you on Monday. Many thanks hope you have a great weekend. Happy peddling buddy
really great job 👍
Glad you like it thanks
Nice bike man
Thanks ✌
Andy, are you recycling? 🙄😝🤪
Bellissimo!🇮🇹
The best recycling 🚲 Thanks for the support 👍
Stunning Italian stallion Andy , well up to your high standards. Tell me , was that a Campag chainset? Love your videos , I never miss one
Thanks for your ongoing support glad you enjoy the channel. The crankset is Gipiemmeand the chainrings are Campagnolo 👍😉
RIP Ted. Lovely bike. Which are the others in his collection?
The Greg Lemond and a few others. I still have one to do. Thanks for watching and your support it’s much appreciated
I've got a powder coated cherry red dave quinn frame with white and silver components. Suffice to say I like red and white on a bike.
Yes definitely striking colour scheme 👍 glad you like it thanks for watching all the best
Great vid and restoration. I have an olmo :)
Thanks for your support much appreciated
that Benotto tape is getting harder and harder to find - costs a fortune!!
Crack on!
Yes they are! Correct on all. Hmm food for thought Ive not ever done a vintage track bike.....watch this space thanks for your support all the best
Restoration has nicely turned out. My only nitpick is the choice of the font on Olmo logo - it just happens to look like the original, but is far from looking the same.
Glad you liked it I’m unsure of the font Mark used or Olmo for that matter. Thanks for your comment and watching
Very nice
Thanks 🙏
Andy ,,,another superb restoration,,,, can you give us the names of the products you use to polish the frame.
Thanks
uuuff almost a heart attack watching that beauty!!!!
Very happy you liked it 🙏
Where can i obtain a set of peel off transfers from for my 1970's race bike, the current ones are curling up at the edges and is not a usual make of 531 frame. any suggestions? thanks
Hi, I buy mine from eBay or H.loud decals he has a website. Hope this helps all the best 👍
Beautiful bike I also have a blue and white olmo ❤
Do you pls have a link for the white pearl handlebar tape I wanna buy it cnt find it 😕
also want to buy front and rear the pair of campagnolo skewers if anyone ?
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yes the Pearl white bar tape is almost impossible to obtain now I’m afraid. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for watching and the tip, your support is much appreciated
Beautiful restoration, however the brake levers look too low and can be safely raised so it's much more comfortable riding hands on the hoods.
Thanks for the support and advice much appreciated all the best
Where's the best place to get parts for retro road bikes?
To be honest most of my parts come from eBay, however I know Facebook have a few groups that sell parts on. Hope this helps
Olmo bikes are still available?
Yes very much so www.olmo-bikes.eu/en/ 👍
Hey Andy had a question, what do you use to typically clean and degrease parts when they are in the bowl?
Hi, to degrease the components I use petrol. Hope this helps thanks for watching
Thanks Andy I was just wondering if it was just petrol or if it was a mixture of both petrol and paraffin, since I saw it in one of your Raleigh videos. On that note what is the mixture or paraffin or in the petrol for?
Always Tape from bottom to top... you don't roof a house backwards from top to bottom as it would leak .... Looks like a Sintex ...
😂 thanks for watching 👍
Did this bike have a model name?
Thanks for watching 🤔I’m sure it’s a Olmo Corsica
Excellent job Andy! Love it! Always look forward to your videos.
I have to ask what polish you use for the saddle?
Keep it up. Cheers!
Glad you liked it, regarding the polish it was just black leather shoe polish buffed up. Hope this helps. 👍 thanks for your support
