    Hey Andy, brilliant build. Greg is a hero of mine and back in his Renault-Elf days I actually got my haircut like Greg. I have a Pegoretti built Pinarello from 1993 with the next gen ergo levers and 8 speed. Brilliant bike. Now... at 7:36 you show the new BB installed and I dare say it's in backwards. The lock ring/adjuster cup goes on the non-drive side and the fixed cup on the drive (right) side.

    • @BikeItUK
      @BikeItUK  2 года назад

      Hi thanks for watching and your comment nice to hear the story about your haircut. The bottom bracket came with the bike. I fully serviced it and reinstalled. The Italian frame on the drive side had an opposite thread like most Italian frames and the bottom bracket that came with it had a unusual locking ring on both sides of barrel. The manufacturer was “Royals” I think 🤔. Hope this explains a little better. Thanks again for your support

    • @johnandrews3568
      @johnandrews3568 2 года назад

      @@BikeItUK wow that is bizarre. Never seen a BB like that. Both my 83 pinarello and 93 Pinarello (Super record and C-Record ergo respectively) have Campy BBs and there is a fix cup on the drive side which made me think yours was backwards. But if that BB has a lock ring on both sides, and the ring doesn't impede the crank spider, well that's a new one on me. Weird quirks of pro team bikes I guess.

    Stumbled upon your site and glad I did. Back in 1985 when I was 30 years old the cycling bug bit me........That year Lemond was neck and neck with Hinault but it wasnt quite his time. The following year it was and his epic win in 1986 inspired me beyond belief. An American actually winning the Tour, imagine that. Fast forward to 2022. I am retired, and have lots of time to ride and accomplish fitness goals I have been putting off for years.

      @@BikeItUK well few weeks ago I spoted one cheap and interesting road bike on andvertisment. I have MTB and ride it, but my old wish was to have an road bike. And this one reminds me on my fathers old bike he got in the factory in the 80s, that factory was producing bike cranksets it’s name was Unis from Yugoslavia. So, I got old german bike for very cheap, 40€, steel frame with lugs, weinmann brakes with dual levers and rims, maillard high flange hubs, shimano positron shifters, shimano chain and casette, SR Sakae Custom crankset 42/52, SR Sakae BB, Uno stem, Friko handlebar. So I stripped the bike to the frame, sent the frame to sandblasting and powdercoating in matte black. While I was waiting I was cleaned every single component the best I could and assemble it back, today I got new tires, tubes, seatpost, brake lines and housings, bar tape and pedals.
      I just need seatclamp screw to come and I can start building a bike. So tomorrow I am planing to start and record it, and mount the proper video in few days.
      Your videos give me some experiance and will to do it properly

    The bikes of that time bring back so many memories. I had in 1979 /80 a steel Holdsworth frame. The rear cassette was 13to 18 tooth, the front rings were 54/42. Climbing any large hills was absolutely brutal.Down tube shifters, tubular tires. The bikes have certainly come a long way and are very enjoyable to ride today. But the bikes of that era are true classics.

    Hi Andy, Thanks for the trip down memory lane. For me, it was the pinnacle of Tour cycle racing. Love your enthusiasm, and not surprised that you can't take the smile off your face riding that gorgeous bike. My favourite channel on RUclips for cycling by a mile. Keep up the good work.

    Love this! Had the great fortune of watching Lemond and the Badger during their time of conflict regarding team leadership during a couple of Coors Classic years. Epic stages in the Colorado Rockies. Still have my hallowed La Vie Claire T-shirt framed on my wall. Those were also the days of the famed 7-Eleven crew, with Hampsten, Kiefel, Phinney, Pierce and Alcala....epic Tour and Giro teams! Those were the good old days of the American rise to the top ranks of intl cycling.

    Great Restore, looks fantastic and you look good riding that bike :). I had those Oakley factory pilots back then. Greg is and always will be my hero. i actually mailed (yes mailed a letter, not emailed) greg lemond bicycles back in '91 asking where i can purchase one in my area. They sent me back brochures, still regret it today i didn't buy one. :)
