Old sewer, new quilter here. I questioned whether or not to join, and you mentioned that quilt alongs were an opportunity to play with color. Aha! I could use that. So I gave myself permission to play, joined the quilt along and am having a great time. I’m learning so much, and I’m inspired by the talented participants. Thanks for all of your great videos. You’re a wonderful teacher!
I am 70, single, still working 40 hrs a week and have a 10 week old puppy. Maybe next year. Potty training being 70 and single is no joke. It will be worth it.
Good luck with it! you are wise to limit the challenges you are doing while handling the puppy training! That is a huge challenge, and success or failure in that will definitely impact your puppy's ability to get along with people and other pets in it's life! You are so correct: it WILL be worth it!
Hi Karen...thank you for sharing. What a wonderful video. It was inspiration to watch. Not only was the information about quilt-a-long inviting but the visual presentation of your video was fantastic. I've been following you for awhile and "skill share" is shining through your professional videos. I really needed to share this with you. You are such a joy.
Too many quilts in the queue right now to commit to this challenge but I am going to watch your progress Karen with our group and cheer you on to victory. Happy 100 blocks!
Thanks Karen. I am interested in doing a QAL, but I know me. I am horrible about mandatory posting! I’m working on being organized, but I’m a little free spirited to commit. I am attracted to the beautiful intricate designs of all that quilting wonder, but it’s a bit much for my ADD brain to lasso and drag in to my year. 🤪 I’m working on my color values, choices, combinations & love your videos that give instruction and ideas. Thanks for all you do and good luck on your 100 days🥰
Im right there with you and struggle with ADD too! It's amazing how many things I can get excited about starting yet finishing is a different story all together lol
Maybe so.... But if you'd seen the my-own-design tote I worked on all Saturday... It looked like disembowelled roadkill when I got to the big twist ,& turn at the end, instead of the lovely lined and pocketed bag I expected. Rapid dissection (deconstruction?) was the most merciful thing I could think of, although I mightily wanted to toss it in the fire. I think I'd better look at published patterns before winging a design again.
I've done quilt-alongs in the past, and I still learned some good tips from this video. Also, I've adopted Karen's "quilt for 30 minutes" approach to my quilting in general. That fits into my schedule and keeps me on track.
As always, your video was right on target. You chop up the overwhelming task of a 100-day QAL into bite-sized and manageable pieces. I had already signed up, bought the pattern, assembled my hashtags, assembled the fabric pull and read a part of the pattern... You bring such clarity to these things. Thanks!!! Looking forward to seeing all the projects from all over!
I liked your video today and I line what you said to do before you stitch- looking at other ideas will help me - good ideas and use the 30 minutes will helo too- Thank Karen!
I just decided to do this quilt-along yesterday and it will be my first one and I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Watching your video this morning gave me that “yes I can” attitude. Thank you for sharing this great information. So looking forward to sewing along with you and other quilters from around the world. Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Your you tube is different from other quilting you tubes, so much great information The way you think, your tips and tricks. I am now thinking about joining this quilt along. Also I shared your rope basket video with my adult daughter. We spent an evening together making baskets. Thank you
I’m excited to get started on this quilt along. I’ve decided my colors this week. I’m going with Patriotic American style, Red white and blue. I’ve been collecting patriotic prints for several years and so will be using fabrics out of my stash.
I signed after I saw your interview with GnomeAngel. Is my first doing this( quilt, quilt along, following pattern, mixing colors and blocks). I have had this need inside me for long time and when I saw that video it all clicked in. This new video is a great confidence buster. Thank you so much 💓
Not ready yet for a quilt a long but you have inspired me to change the way I use and store fabric so that I am more efficient than I was previously. I'm making items that are smaller projects and working on my skills each week. Thanks Karen for the support and the community here.
Spot on. I like that you emphasis reading the intro and instructions. I love Facebook group quilt alongs, but the same questions getting asked over and over gets cumbersome, especially when it’s all outlined in the pinned post. And, the pattern is in the group files! There’s always nice people though, that patiently answer the questions every time 😊
Thanks so much Karen, I too have joined the Gnome Angel quilt along. It’s my first one so it’s a steep learning curve for me. Very exciting. Cheers from Melbourne.
As always, I truly enjoy your video. Your tips are always concise and focused. For me personally, I do better with a full BOM-type kit, but pretty much on my own schedule. With a fulltime job, and a small farm, when I get to quilt, it's usually "fast and furious" for several hours on the weekend. However, I will be watching everyone's progress with great interest.
Yay! I'm doing the Kinship quilt along, too because I loved your interview. I have both the FPP & machine pieced versions printed out, the 7 yards of fabric from a line my daughter loves, and I'm almost finished with my 2 competing projects. 🎉🎊❤
Thanks Karen for the info on this QAL. Just signed up. It coincides perfectly with my retirement date of Oct 7! Can’t wait to get started on my “Countdown Quilt”!
I always enjoy your videos, but this one was especially timely - I had ordered the pattern for the Gnome Angel 100 day quilt along but had neglected to sign up!!!!!! Agh!!!
Ask me how I know.... haha-how I relate. Thanks again for information i tuck into my brain and Get My Quilts Done !! You also look great. I’m grateful for Skillshare I’ve seen how your video quality is better than ever.
So tempted to sign up for this particular QAL, but reality tells me I have too many projects going right now to be able to commit. Your video is very inspiring, though, so I look forward to seeing your progress, and perhaps I will join in another one next year! Thanks for your videos - informative and fun, always.
Excellent video topic, Karen. You explain it all so thoroughly, I never realized how *involved* these QAL's can get, so it's good to have a roadmap of how to plan for one should I ever choose to participate in future (I just know that right now, the pace is too fast for me). THANK YOU to all Quilters who so generously share pictures of their QAL quilts and their interim steps. Because pics on the internet seem to last forever, even years later, you never know who you're motivating! (I'm sure many of the quilters must think I'm crazy leaving complimentary comments years after they posted their pics. But some of them even reply, so I figure it's okay!). I recently started creating EPP 1" hexies, and looking for ideas for using them, found online a beautiful (free!) pattern called the "Kingfisher Quilt". It's part of a QAL run by Jodi of TalesofCloth blog and Rachel of StitchedInColor blog, back in 2018, using hexie flowers appliqued onto background diamonds. Their pace at the time was 7 hexies per week. I'm finding they take much longer for me to make, so I'm perfectly content to look at the hashtags on Instagram, and be motivated by all the fabric and colour combinations and permutations of the participants at the time. The same may happen for Gnome Angel's beautiful Kinship sampler pattern. LOVE the various colourways you showed in your video, Karen! Enjoy your 100 Days QAL, everyone -- I'll be watching from the sidelines and cheering you on :-D ~Diana K.
I also am signed up and just received my book. Ms.Karen will you continue to keep any information about it for her quilt along on your channel? I find your videos and links are easiest to follow along.
I've often wondered about doing a quilt along so I took a look at the blocks that are going to be made and a number of quilts from the past few years. I've decided not to start something I know I won't finish. Instead, I'm going to continue to finish up UFO from previous years that I found went on an organization binge. Great advice for those who are going to participate. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the results. And WOMBATS, what a hoot!!!! Cute.
This will be my first quilt-along and I’m hanging on your every word. I fully expect it to be great fun and an excellent learning experience. Thank you!
Good Morning everyone. I am officially back in the saddle and I'm ready to get sewing for this year's #100days100blocks challenge. If you have the time, I hope you join me in this fun annual event. Grab your coffee and enjoy. The first 1000 people to use the link will get a free trial of Skillshare Premium Membership: skl.sh/justgetitdonequilts06211
I would love to do this someday but I have too many projects to complete before I take on another project. I hope this type of project will be offered again in the future.
Thanks Karen! After I saw your interview with Gnome Angel I decided to sign up for the QAL! This new video came along just at the right time as I’m starting to plan, but don’t know where yo start! Thank you sew much 😊
Karen I have a quilting pen pal and we're wanting to do a Round Robin quilt. There are two of us but I'm sure it would still be fun. Only problem? What's a Round Robin and how do you go about utilizing this method? Thanks for all the great advice and look forward to more tips from you. Hugs from Winnipeg!!
Totally off the subject of the quilt a long, and apologies if this question has already been asked and answered, but love that little fabric basket. Did you make it.
Thanks so much Karen. I also signed up for the QAL because of your interview with Angie. I coloured all my blocks with pencils but just found out about pre quilt. I plan on making 155 blocks for the necessary size quilt I need and if you have not already taped your program with pre quilt could you ask them if that is possible to do with 100 block challenge. As far as I can tell the have certain pre planned quilts and the biggest for 100 blocks is 100.
LOL! Yeah, her blouse caught my eye too. I thought, "Hmmm... I wonder if that's made of quilting cotton?". Ever since I started quilting, I seem to do that a lot. (Most clothes aren't though. I for one need my Lycra for fit and comfort!)
I've never done a quilt along.. I signed up but am wondering if someone is doing videos on building each block? Its all info overload for this old newbie but great info ty Karen.
I've always wondered about mystery quilts, Cheryl. Doesn't it bother you that you don't know how it'll look until after you've put in all the time and fabric and other resources? What if you're not thrilled with the look of the finished quilt? That's kind of what 'scares' me with mystery quilts (if 'scared' is the right word). I prefer to see everyone's finished quilt, decide which colourway I like best, and then buy the pattern & pick the fabrics to make my own version. Maybe I'm just not adventurous enough! ;-) ~Diana K.
I'd love to do this. I did a 30 day challenge; it overloaded my OCD...the blocks are waiting for me to put them together. Karen, you are the best. Thank you.
I loved this triangle quilt behind you. Where can I have the pattern? I know it's triangle all over but I'd like know about the colours. Thank you in advance and congratulations for your Chanel ... I love it ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this! Unfortunately I’m too busy to do this one, but have always wanted to do a challenge. You have given me lots to think about, especially the different layouts for less blocks. I thought it was an all or nothing type of thing. Also, suggestions on color analysis paralysis? I don’t really have a stash yet and I go to stores and my mind goes blank 😣
Because this exact quilt pattern is already "out there", I would suggest going to Instagram and looking through all the posts on GnomeAngel's #KinshipFusionSampler , find one you'd like yours to be like, and then pull those colours for your new Kinship Sampler. I'm sure whatever you choose, it will look fabulous, because it will include fabrics you like and chose. Good luck, Tina!
Makes a wonderful fundraiser donation if it’s not your taste in the end. I’m in the grids girls mystery quilt along, and it’s more about learning to use the creative grids tools than the quilt. This month they’re using the flying gees tool.
@@suestewart546 I'm with you, Sue. I just don't have the "vision" necessary to fool around with the colourways if I don't like what the designer proposes from the outset. But after I see what colours and fabrics the participants chose, I always seem to find one that I just *love*. That's when I'll dip my toe in and get the pattern!
I can’t decide between fpp or piecing, I need the practice with piecing because I’m not super accurate with it but fpp is much easier! Anyone have thoughts?
I have found alot of quilt alongs are at skill levels well above mine - so I fear they will turn into UFOs if I become overwhelmed early on. 100 blocks in a 100 days seems overwhelming to me. How about 20 blocks in 100 days? I need to find a quilt along that is geared more towards beginners with less time on their hands.
1-gnome Angel has a layout for only 20 blocks if you prefer. My project manager can only do 20 as well 2-follow the hashtag #quiltalong and you might find others with lighter commitments

Any advice I am going to do one of your quilts this week it will be my first so I have joined the 100day one but don't know if I should buy the templates any advice would be great. Thanks
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts I loved it. Another ripper vid. I don’t know how it all works. It was like finding a hidden treasure and I wanted to make sure everyone could see it. ☺️ Great, have a lovely day ❤️
In a nutshell, PreQuilt is an online app that helps Quilters design their own quilts (subscription-based pricing, i.e. you pay by the month to use it).
I love marti stuff!!
I love your blouse
How neat is it that we live in this age we can share across the world?! Thank you for introducing me to GnomeAngle and #100blocks100days.

It sounds amazing...but I take it this is not an adventurous beginner project?
With mystery quilts, how do you know you will like the design enough when you can't see the pattern first🤔
Sometimes you just need to trust in the quilting goddess
Even if you end up not crazy about it, you probably know someone who would love it as a gift. 👍
Makes a wonderful fundraiser donation if it’s not your taste in the end. I’m in the grids girls mystery quilt along, and it’s more about learning to use the creative grids tools than the quilt. This month they’re using the flying gees tool.
Or do what I do and wait until the whole quilt is uploaded and decide on the fabrics, etc. then.
How do you create a list of hashtags so you don’t have to type them each time? Where do you save them in FB or IG?
I keep them in 'notes' and cut and paste when I need them
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts Thanks!!
I can’t decide between fpp or piecing, I need the practice with piecing because I’m not super accurate with it but fpp is much easier! Anyone have thoughts?
You can do both depending on how your feel that day
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts 😮 I hadn’t even thought of that
I have found alot of quilt alongs are at skill levels well above mine - so I fear they will turn into UFOs if I become overwhelmed early on.
I would love to do a smaller commitment QAL but don’t really know how to find them. Suggestions?

Any advice I am going to do one of your quilts this week it will be my first so I have joined the 100day one but don't know if I should buy the templates any advice would be great.
Thanks
Take it slow, start small, and a quilt that needs templates is not the best one to use for your first quilt
This vid didn’t come up in my feed as your most recent video, I found it by accident looking at your playlists
That's because it's unlisted until 9:00...you found a back door. LOL. I hope you enjoyed it.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts I loved it. Another ripper vid. I don’t know how it all works. It was like finding a hidden treasure and I wanted to make sure everyone could see it. ☺️ Great, have a lovely day ❤️
Is this QAL considered beginner intermediate or advanced?. I would love to join one but nervous 😬
Its a great quilt for an advanced beginner to learn new skills, and great for intermediate quilters to practice and improve
What is the little purple stuffed object behind you??
My new gallbladder 😂
Just a quick question?!?!! What is Pre Quilt????
Check it out at Prequilt.com
In a nutshell, PreQuilt is an online app that helps Quilters design their own quilts (subscription-based pricing, i.e. you pay by the month to use it).
Where do I go to sign up
You can find it by going to gnomeangel.com . There should be an image of the quilt on the side with #100Days100Blocks2021 to take you to it.

This is October 15, 2022. Is there a up coming Quilt-along?
