I don’t think it is “holy shopping”. I think it would be better to keep extra supplies in our pantry to provide for such times. Thank you for your thoughts. Many blessings

You are absolutely right. If we can provide for them, without shopping on the Sabbath, either by asking others to cooperate, as I have done many times, or by taking from our own supplies, it is best. But, if we cannot, or have not; then I believe God does not object to us helping; if the need cannot wait till sundown ... ☝️💓🥰

I'll throw my two cents in since I have first hand experience in this.
My local church has on multiple occasions supplied food parcels. We keep a stock of non-perishable food that can be given out when needed. However, we have no choice but to buy fresh food when a call comes in for someone in need. At times, this call happens on the Sabbath when people have paid their rent for the week and there is nothing left over for food.

Remember the Pharisees wanted to literally murder Jesus for doing good on the Sabbath. That's the attitude of some "so-called" Sabbath keepers. They return tithes, offerings and gifts and lack compassion for the suffering.
If the "Pharisee" was at Church, he/she wouldn't have seen Pst Bohr leaving with groceries.
I can relate to Pst Bohr's testimony. It's not like people walk around with groceries hoping that a family has a need. And most members like far from the Church and the need is urgent and you can't wait till the sun sets.

How beautiful meeting the needs of people who are in need! Our Savoir worked on the Sabbath healing the sick. I will admit I like to have everything done by including something for us to eat I do warm it up if it's cold. And if I have unexpected I will prepare something for them. The Sabbath was made for me to commune with my heavenly father to be able to study at my leisure getting all that I want. I will need that for the rest of the week we are representatives for Christ we will need to have the holy Spirit to show love and compassion. And to be honest it's the only day of the week that I am able to truly rest from my labors.

Great answer, thanks pastors Stephen and pastor CA. I completely agree that we should do good on Sabbath. It is also important especially in my case as a church leader to set the correct example for our congregation. Irrespective if a person is a non Adventist or working voluntary, the stranger in your gates and even animals are included in the command and that is also why we should not neglect the day of preparation to make provision for unexpected visitors on Sabbath. However, still well answered.

It was only after I volunteer that my eyes were open.
I was part of a large church and we need 10 ladies preparing food to provide for all.
We baked the frozen lasagnas, chopped large amount of fruits, vegetables and leaves for salads...not to mention, setting the dinning room, cleaning after work...no way I stayed for another potluck in my life if it falls on Sabbath.

My concern is, if they are non Adventist and are willing to volunteer why not invite them to church for worship then. Serve up the meals in disposable plates(allows no washing) or have other Adventist assist in washing up after Sabbath. For 1 I think you're creating a dark space between those who are non Adventist and the Adventists who are encouraging them because if they're not in like mind of adventism that encouragement could create a problem trying to win them over to Christ.

Yes it's good to do good on the Sabbath, but it is irrelevant that the ladies are non-SDA's. The organisers are being disingenuous by allowing non-SDA's to do their heating up. Why couldn't they do it? A hot meal, by nature, has to be warmed up prior to eating. I just find the question is legitimate, but throwing in the part about the ladies not being SDA is pathetic. You can't 'franchise out' good deeds on the Sabbath to non-SDA's. If anything, it should be explained it's not ideal, but in the better interest of the good deed, then it is permissible... The non-SDA ladies need to hear the gospel too.

Now what was it like when the statement was written, and for whom was it penned. In Ellen's day and geographic location preparing for a bath was a rather tedious job, you heat the water if the weather is cold, prepare your tub etc. Ok! There were no shower I imagine.
