Thank you Pastors for giving your reasons for not attending weddings on the Sabbath. I am the only SDA in my family apart from my children and I have been invited to a family wedding that will be happening on the Sabbath. One person said 'Jesus changed the water to wine at a wedding, so what's wrong with going to a wedding'. Non SDAs do not understand the difference between a Biblical Sabbath and a Sunday tradition. And the wedding in Matthew does not say that it was on the Sabbath. Also as this is going to be an international wedding, I have decided not to attend. As you say, the preparation hours, travel, photos etc. that will take away hours from the Sabbath and in this case, there will be alcohol and food, that is not in line with the Biblical diet, not to mention the secular talk, so all these things are pointing towards an unwise choice for me to attend. Also the young couple have been living together as husband and wife for the last year or so and the wedding is another year away. So in my mind, it's just not worth sacrificing my time with God. I did think that I could be a witness to them by going but I think I would be a better witness by not going. And quite frankly, I don't think many people really care what the reasons are in this situation. My family thinks that I am a little strange anyway because of my choice of religion, but I really don't care what others think any more : ) Thank you again for this program. May God continue to bless you and your ministry.

I have same situation. What I do is attend in the evening at the end of sabbath so we can witness to them and when we don’t drink it’s a witness to them as well but I know its always a big struggle for me because we have many invitations to weddings and I had to turn down many but some I go at the reception time in evening when sabbath is over I usually leave early before party starts 🙏

@@nathaliec7330 thank you. Yes I had thought of going to the ceremony only. The ‘groom to be’ actually said that he didn’t mind if I just did that so it could make a good witness. It’s all so theatrical these days, the dress, the party and no mention of God. Thanks for replying 🙂

We had a wedding on the sabbath just because it’s a twin institution of the Sabbath Day. No food was prepared on the Sabbath. Although we did have a nice beautiful meal prepared on Friday, No gifts were opened. No one was paid. It was very simple and beautiful. It was a good introduction to our relatives for the Sabbath.

As you noted, they are twin institutions but not the same thing. In the beginning God performed the marriage on the 6th day but the Sabbath was on the 7th day. By the time the Sabbath arrived the marriage ceremony was finished.

God says that we have six days to do ALL our work which includes weddings just as He did officiate in the first wedding between Adam and Eve which was conducted on the sixth day, by the seventh day God had finished all the work of creation and rested.

Why didn't you address the Catholic priest in the SDA church? Talk about ecumenism. Why would you completely overlook this?

Ive heard no Adventist minister would marry an Adventist and Catholic. Is that true??? A catholic priest performing a wedding in an adventist church dont sound good either.

First, let me say thanks to the Pastors for their responses. Secondly, if I ask someone else to work in my place on sabbath, am I not encouraging that person to break the sabbath?

I still believe that pastor Steven No he haven't given the straight truth on marriage on the Sabbath if CHRIST married Adam and Eve on a Friday why should sda performs weddings on Saturday SABBATH CHRIST is our example, it's clear we don't have to guess about the matter

SDA weddings are not generally performed on Sabbath but people are free to get married on Sabbath if they want to. It depends on the pastor involved as well. I believe Pastor Bohr said nothing out of line. Clearly Sabbath should be a day of rest, church, praise and time with God. Just like Sunday believers wouldn’t necessarily have a wedding on a Sunday.

@Dona....I concur. God has simple and clear examples.....in His word. We have all the time to do all else in 6 days and leave the Sabbath for God's intended purposes. We ought to maintain standard 😊

”Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed, that I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many. And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house. Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.“

Many think when you say one must be at church they to learn more about God. Some feel Pastor’s say that because they want money (tithe and offerings)

Was egw saying nurse and doctors should work on the Sabbath? Oh no, she never said that, but if there's an real emergency situation and urgent call not a schedule then they would be doing good and not working on the Sabbath, same as if there was an emergency at church and the doctor there had to help the emergency thats not working but doing good, and one doesn't collect for doing good. If we dont understand what she was saying then everyone is going to claim their services is essentially, the sewage man, the electricity man, the police/soildier and so many other services hence confusion and misapplied the quote, Jesus doing good was a scheduled regular work, but one of healing and teaching....
