I loved Kosh's transport ship. I remember when Sheridan approached it too closely and it formed a gun out of its side and pointed it at him. And then there was that one guy they had to hide from Earth force so they gave him a sedative and hid him on Kosh's transport. He said that he was asleep and he swore that the ship was singing to him and comforting him.
Not a gun, a sensor.
@@magicmulder It looked like a gun with a censor on it. I always thought it was a censor/warning system, letting him know to back off, which is why Leita told him to do so, slowly.
@@rumrunner8019 I think it wanted to scan his mind. Later it shows some symbols to Kosh. Maybe those said "He really is The One."
Favorite Vorlon ship is Kosh's transport. All of them are awesome, but we got to see the ship destroy it'self after Kosh's death. It was a very touching scene.
Always makes me tear up ...
@@allisonrich5061 Same here. What a great series. I hope they do as well with the reboot. JMS himself is involved, so that that's a huge plus.
I would love a look into the fleets from Space Battleship Yamato.
It's on the list. Should be out by the end of next month. :)
Yamato is more like a comic compared to B5
From what I’ve read the Vorlon fighters are un-piloted and self aware to a point, think attack animals like a wolf pack. Great analysis though. Keep up the good work
just like the shadow fighters.. organic and alive but likely controlled from the batltlecrab
@@ZakhadWOW Vorlons have actually got better, cause their destroyer can beat shadow crab, which required a pilot(younger races mostly)
My favorite Vorlon vessel was the little orange jobby that plain ran through a Shadow Battlecrab.
Ah, the Vorlon Destroyer.
I think even Star Wars would struggle to keep the top to itself, if just the Babylon Universe had half the money that's now being burned with Star Trek.
With that money usually comes more network supervision and input. Maybe it wouldn't have turned out as good if JMS hadn't been so constrained by budget but otherwise free to do what he wanted
Networks should have 0 input in what producers put in their shows.
If Babylon 5 had that money, it would probably mean that activists hired by big corporations would destroy the franchise.
@@deaddevil7meh. JMS was "woke" AF for the time he just did it differently in B5 than how it's done in Star Trek. He did it by treating things as normal. I mean we know of 2 bi main characters and 1 lesbian main character, and 2 main characters went undercover as a gay married couple and nobody in universe batted an eyelid about any of it. With how they treated the queer characters there could have been more and we just never found out because their relationships weren't part of the story and in universe nobody thought it a deal.
Star Trek on the other hand has unsubtly beat you around the head with how progressive it is since TOS. It going back to that isn't because of studio interference, it's them moving away from what the enforcement of what big corporations wanted by Berman (and writers and cast still managed to sneak shit past him) back to what Gene thought Star Trek should be. Gene wanted men in minidresses as part of the Starfleet uniform, loudly openly gay characters, and bisexual orgies going on in the background on Risa in TNG...
@@MechanicaMenaceWoke means a lot of things. These days, it’s used to ppl who push DEI shit over merit. By that definition, JMS is decidedly NOT woke. He’s what normal ppl should be.
A planetkiller is not weak. One died in a minute at Coriana 6 because it came under attack from 5 first ones capital ships.
Nah. Pretty weak. Attacked by 2 or 3 white stars....or even one, it would lose. Slow, only one weapon, even as powerful as it is, it's just one weapon.
@@mothygryphon9111 It was never alone, always with a fleet , it only has 1 mission blow up planets lol!
@@patrickrobinson545 oh absolutely. Alone, it's weak.
@@mothygryphon9111 It's a glass cannon
Oh, also, Vorlon ships are the coolest sci-fi ships EVER! :-)
😎👍Very cool and very nicely greatly fabulously well done and very nicely well informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and format provided on the Vorlon Fleet of Babylon 5, A job very nicely wonderfully well done indeed Sir!👌.
Fantastic work as always. I've been looking forward to this one.
I did not know the Vorlon had a servant race as like the shadow did. I though there ships were of pet or animal Intelligence and smaller crafts would be telepathically controlled. When Kosh died the Vorlons ordered that his encounter suit be put in his ship and it would Sun Cremation because it did not want to live without him.
The Minbari were kind of the Vorlons' vassal race. Since the Minbari were one of the first races to evolve that weren't one of the First Ones, I think the Vorlons took a more direct hand in guiding them than they did with the other younger races, as was seen by how they "drafted" the Minbari to fight against the Shadows in the previous Shadow War, whereas other races that fought against the Shadows (like the Narn telepaths - the "Mindwalkers" - under G'quan) seem to have done so on their own, without Vorlon help.
@@Maria_Erias And per the Mongoose Games RPG books, Varn's race from 'A Voice in the Wilderness' were once quite trusted servants or vassals too.
@@chrissonofpear1384 That's not canon though - any of Mongoose Games and Agents of Gaming content. JMS was quite clear in this.
Babylon 5 is truly one of the best sci-fi shows ever! I binge watch it at least once a month! LOL #LoveKosh
I constantly rewatch it 💓💓💓👍👍
It's fair to note that Vorlon ships are not just organic, but sentient beings in their own right. They're capable of independent thought, communications, defending themselves, and one even treated a human as one would an infant, even singing to him telepathically - giving us a glimpse into their intelligence and psionic ability.
Vorlons are Telepaths if I remember it correctly, so the ships of the Shadows could probably be countered by a single Vorlon on the Planetkiller, at least long enough for the fleet to destroy them. And seeing as normal Vorlon ships could heal damage that would destroy normal capital ships, a ship like the Planetkiller really shouldn't need much in the way of additional defences.
Unless encountering multiple First Ones
@John Konig tell that to the Death Star.
*Suggestion:*
Species 8472 _(Star Trek)_
vs
Thirdspace Aliens _(Babylon 5)_
Another great video idea. I'll add it to the list. :)
i still think 8472 are borg that evolved in fluidic space.
i remember they said theres no source of metals there.
so borg would have to adapt to use bio tech.
least in that episode arch seven never says thats the first or only incursion attempt.
think it could have been an attempt to reconnect and add their knowledge to the collective but they thought the collective should be more like them instead.
even had bio nano probes(eating harry kim)
Damn this takes me back 😉 thanks for the review 👍🏾
Vorlon ships are beautiful, powerful, and awesome.
Thanks looking forward to vorlon fleet video
Miss playing Babylon 5 Wars "Second Edition"
Ah, you seek meaning. Then listen to the music, not the song. 😎👍

The Vorlon Vs the Wraith from SGA would be a neat Mix Up. Pretty Similar in some ways.

My other vehicle is a Vorlon Planet Killer.
@Random Platypus with Internet Good
There was a cd rom in the late 90s/early 00s that gave a description of most of the ships, their propulsion systems and weapons systems.
The White Star was cool
Main weapon of planet killer may be in some way experimental weapon, it can be even sience ship or it's main job would be out of the rim. Main use of this beam could be different, just used to destroy planets because it could do it too.
This channel is criminaly underrated. NEvertheless, love the content.
Thanks 😊
Dreadnought has SIX (6) Lightning Cannons. 4 Discharge Guns. A defense system and EM Shield. Carries 18 fighters and a couple transports.
Also..you image of the Destroyer and Dreadnought are considered "Red" thus having improved fire control and weapon power....vs the Blue (Improved Armor) and Purple (Improved Shielding)
02:13 "fires tour shots per turn.." is this based off of a b5 game I'm not aware of?
My Favorite Vorlon vessel has to be the Dreadnought!!! 🤠👍
I guess for the Planetkiller it needs all of its energy for the actual planet killing shot and that's why it has no defenses. Anything else draining energy on the ship would probably reduce the effectiveness of the weapon so they treat it like a glass cannon meant to be used for an all out offense while the rest of the fleet acts like a football team protecting the quarterback from assault. I mean all it is literally used for is killing planets so why take it onto an actual battlefield when that isn't its purpose?
Well you could at least install some selfpowered pointdefense weapons all over its hull to protect it from fighters and missileattacks, which are the things that might slip through the defensefleet. Even the deathstar had those in its design for this very reason.
Also considering the energy it takes to blow up a Jupitersized planet (which is probably much more power than all the youngerraces combined can produce at the point in the story) i doubt that powering a couple of 100 defense guns would even put a tiny dent into the planet killers powerproduction.
The show depicted that the Vorlons were stronger than all the other First Ones. With the exception of Lorien's kind.
If you think about.
The shadows are like the Vietnamese and the Vorlons like the US.
The Vorlons see to have a edge in technology but they will never escalated to a full MAD war and the Shadows are happy with their gorilla tactics.
@@foca2002 I can go with that.
i wonder who would win The Borg or The Vorlons that would be very interesting i think.
Vorlon easily
@@epyon1983 I wouldnt be too sure about that. Its really a question how weapons and shields/armor compare to each other. Then the next question is how B5 hyperspacetravel compares to the warp/transwarp technology of star trek. Also a good question is if the borg can assimilate Vorlon technology or not. Now the borg got their behinds handed to them by species 8472 but i think those have far superior firepower to both races and they couldnt be assimilated.
Let's discuss the Shadow fleet vs. the Vorlon and is there any info on their doctrines and numbers so we could really consider the outcome if they had slugged it out one and one all the way?
Finally
It is true that the planet killer is vulnerable because it is a big gun and has no other defensive weapons of its own. So it does need a support fleet. However, I can't imagine how many younger race ships it would take to harm it and destroy it. It might take the entire EA fleet to attack at in a co-ordinated effort to knock it out. Anything less it would just shrug it off.
What does the inside of the Vorlon ships look like if possible?
The planet killer is Babylon 5’s version of the Death Star 1, Death Star 2 and STARKILLER Base
Armada of Angels
Don't forget to update the playlist please.
Neat video.
i would say that the heavy destroyer is also protected hy a shield. wpuldve loved to see it demolishing shadow vessels
They were on a par with the shadows.
UB I can't believe you haven't reviewed this ship yet, Destiny from Stargate universe. Destiny SG Vs Victory Class Destroyer B5 🤨
Ouch, me too. I'll add it to the list.
Kosh's transportship is my favorite of them
The ships in Babylon 5 look very aquatic. Like squids, urchins, angelfish, and such things.
Kosh was the only good vorlon.
A father figure who cared for the younger races.
All vorlons are kosh
Kosh was chosen by his people so fact they chose the best of them says they're pretty good but I think he was representative of all Vorlon.
We really only get to know 2 Vorlons (in the TV show - don't know about other media) so it's hard to draw any conclusions about how many were like 1st Kosh & how many were like 2nd Kosh. They did decide to destroy any planet touched by the Shadows, so overall I guess 2nd Kosh was more representative of the entire race. We don't know however how divided they were. Since 1st Kosh seemed to act more in line with the original directive and he was chosen as Ambassador, I think it's reasonable to assume his kind of Vorlon had significant but not majority of influence/power in Vorlon society. Maybe a 40-60 split?
[Edited from here on] I'm curious about the Shadows & how monolithic their society was, especially as regards to sheparding the younger races. To me, it would be ironic if this race that appeared to prize chaos & a survival-of-the-fittest philosophy all thought the same way. This is the people that should have a lot of internal conflict and changes in dealings with the younger races (& Vorlons).
We are all kosh
He's a vorlin all right.
Yup.
They weren't bad, it's just that the Vorlons lost their way. Kosh was the only one who remembered the whole point was to help the younger races and not just rule over them.
Vorlons vs species 8472, who would win? Their technology seems very similair.
Only their ships are similar. Vorlons can't be killed by conventional means, they are made up of energy.
@@TentaclePentacle I seem to recall B5 starting with a vorlon being poisoned and having to be saved by a human doctor.
But yeah, i was referring to their ships being so similair.
@@origami83 yeah they reconned that in the later episodes when sheriden tried to take down the fake kosh. They couldn't do it until the real kosh showed up. Even then they had to sacrifice the real kosh.
Since Star Trek ripped off species 8472 from Babylon 5 AKA third space aliens basically they be fighting themselves lol
@@shawnbeckmann1847 Not sure that tracks: Thirdspace came out in 1998, Scorpion in 1997
Only 17 Likes, that's Heresy! :D
about vorlons not running their ships...where does the info come from? its never stated in the show as far as I remember! it does kinda make sense because I always wondered why their bigger ships had windows...
Most of the in depth information comes from B5wars. It contains allot of interesting information, but it wasn't written by JMS so it wouldn't be considered cannon. 🤷♂️
I assumed some ships had living staff to perform tasks only something physical could do. Vorlons seemed to prefer living servants over robotics. Hence Lita being modified to carry a Vorlon better. Or Sebastian being used and preserved as needed. Perhaps they didn't trust AI so their ships were life forms and intelligent to a point.
The “First Ones” did reproduce. They just did not do so with need to keep their race alive because of being immortal. The did die from injury or sickness, but if they did not come in contact with disease, or get injured they will continue to live.
Vorlon planetkiller is hardly easy to destroy. Only other first ones can destroy it. It would just absorb all the energy younger races would throw at it.
Of course, the term "Weak" is a VERY "relative" term when talking about VORLON Ships!
I always found it heartbreaking thst Kosh's ship difnt want to live without him. To have something that is self aware and unable to bond with anything else seems terribly cruel. It seems like a harsh existence. The pilot might outlive the ship, bit the ship won't outlive the pilot...for long.😢
In B5. they had 1 plant killer left. Kept quiet
Imo i would of thought they had. Bunch of them. A couple of Thousand. Of them
Being so Advance. Hmm
It's the Writers
Were the vorlon vessels not usually piloted by advanced robotics and artificial intelligence? Or am I thinking of the Protos...lol
I think I read somewhere the Vorlon ships were piloted by their servant races, just like the Shadows used living beings to pilot their ships.
@JH24821 yes, that makes sense for sure but I don't remember hearing or reading that. The shadows used slaves to manage operations and interactions. Though to be honest I don't recall where I read that the vorlons used cybernetics either
The Navy of Heaven.
Yes
Not enough secondary armaments, also a few nukes would disorient it enough for several Casaba Howitzers to hull it.
There is no way the planet killer would have no additional weapons and weak defenses.
You know ever Vorlon "ship" is just a large EVA encounter suit right?
The ship, unlike the suit, is alive and can transform into shapes. Otherwise it's a interesting theory.
His encounter suit was threatening looking.Vorlons, gave off different vibes. The first Kosh could strike out at Sheridan then appreciate one moment of perfect beauty.
Amazing series.
'Shots per Turn?'.. What, you adapted B-5 ships to play in SFB??! See, I don't really recall Sheridan saying to a Shadow-ship, "We Fired at you, It's YOUR 'TURN'!" I turn the comments board back over to Those who have played Star-Fleet Battles by ABG over the decades. Fire away, 'cause, it's your turn (gatling phasers excluded).
They all seem to have lightning sheilds
The vorlons are more effective in hyper space . As much as the shadows . They can survive bing of the shipping lanes thus can launch surprise attacks on those in hyper space lanes .
The white star fleet can't do this and are the most advanced of younger races do to blend of TECKNO of mimbari and the vorlons .
would be interesting how B5 universe would deal with AI
think JMS didnt wanna start a whole giant arch about it
The closest we got to that were the Telepaths taken to be used in the Shadow ships. When they were taken out they could easily merge with other tech. That's what I remember.
@@Fantasylover12248 yea thats what i mean there wasnt much info to go off.
maybe one of the books says it was banned or something like dune
think there might have been a mention of some earth force experiment or something in a episode

guess thats a good way of dealing with the whole AI question. make it stupid lol
you sure your feeling alright? you getting enough vitamins? maybe i should call your mother
👍👍👍❤❤❤
I think the reason they never really thought they had nothing to worry about that the Younger races would never challenge them that's why they probably didn't think the planet killer would need more weapons and armor. I guess that's being arrogant
This which you called "heavy cruiser" is a Dreadnought
With out telepaths the vorlons would not stand a chance against the shadows
Well shadows could not use their fleet without telepaths as well.
It seems that all this is a cold read, you've never seen any of this before

I wonder what the design of these ships would be like, if done now and with great budget.
