I’m a retired Harley-Davidson mechanic and I ride a $2000 1999 Honda Valkyrie interstate it had 8000 miles on it when I bought it and now has 90,000 and never did anything to it but change the oil filters and tires been Coast to Coast every year, I have 13 motorcycles and this is the best bike I’ve ever rode
@@michaelcarley7016 Believe it. 90,000 miles is just the break-in period for a Goldwing, many documented with 500,000 and still running like a top. I suspect there's a few out there closer to 1,000,000.
I know exactly what you mean. I own, ride and maintain a 2000 Valkyrie. I've been riding for over 40 years. Had 2 Harleys in that time a 2007 Electra glide and a 2005 sportster. Although the Electra Glide was better 2 up on long tours, the Honda is better day to day and easy to maintain. I've had it since 2015 and I'm never letting it go. Best bike I've owned.
Sux it got left out but, it hasn't had an overhaul in a long time. Kawi doesn't seem to "upgrade" anything unless it's absolutely necessary but when you build it right the first time, you don't need to change it every year. They aren't trying to take over the market. Just provide solid Bikes and sell what they sell.
@@SGTJDerek I think the reason they probably left it out is because the Vaquero and Voyager havent changed since this generation of them debut. Other than like the fan in the back of the motor and different paint schemes. But imo they are still the best bang for the buck even new. I just sold my 06' 900 classic to get the 2010 voyager I have now. I paid just $5500 for a fully dressed voyager with V&H pipes, Ivan's reprogrammed ECU, and other morte subtle changes. I rode that bike 310 miles the first day I bought it and loved everything about it.
There is also the Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero. It is a 1700 cc 6 speed. It doesn't have some of the bells and whistles but it does come with ABS. It goes for around 16k.
Last year was looking to trade my 2011 HD RoadKing for a Road Glide and kept coming across videos showing the new Goldwing DCT. The more I dug into them the more I wanted to take a closer look. Needless to say the Harley went bye bye and the Goldwing Non-Tour DCT came home with me and 10K miles later not a single second of regret. Love my WIng.

Very similar story: Last 10 years I rode a Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero 1700, another V-Twin bagger. Test drove the BMW - meh. Test drove the Road Glide - really liked it. Test drove the Gold Wing - holy crap, loved it! Brought it home last week and I'm having a blast.
My 1978 Goldwing, full dressed with fairing, bags and trunk, took me 250,000 miles. It was in perfect condition when I sold it. I wish I still owned it but someone offered me an awful lot of money. My 2009 Kawasaki Nomad 1700 is a great bike. Simple bagger; not over dressed like some two wheeled car. a better "road King" than H-D could ever make.
I owned an '83 Gold Wing for a few years. BRILLIANT. I'm now into cars from the fifties because I'll live longer. I had too many narrow scrapes on two wheels.
I've owned 'wings since their inception. My brother in California swears by his Harley (ies), I ride while he repairs. Sold my last one with 287,000 miles and still reclaimed over $10,000 in resale. I used this last 'wing for business and putting 30-36,000 miles yearly, the bike paid for itself 5 times over with IRS mileage tax deductions. I've owned (in order of purchase) BSA, Triumph, Enfield, Guzzi, HD, BMW and Honda. 54 years of riding gives a man perspective. Honda...all the way!
The Wing and BMW are seriously a class all their own. It doesn't matter what you Ride, the Wing has always gotten EVERYONE'S respect with BMW hot on their heels.
GW is junk and good luck finding a decent Honda dealer. Most of them suck and they’re few and far between. Yamaha is nice but again, none are available and there are few dealers left. Unless your a mechanic, then stick with either Harley or Indian.
I ride an 06 Vulcan Nomad 1600. I absolutely love my bike. It doesn’t have any of that fancy crap on there, but that’s the way riding is supposed to be.
I have a 09 Vulcan Nomad and agree with your comments entirely. Love it. Previously been around Victoria, Tasmania and rode back over the Nullabor on a 2007 model and loved it. No issues at all. Have had 3 Vulcans so far and I find them very comfortable, easy to maintain and does everything a cruiser is designed for - at nearly half the cost of Harleys and Indians.
Well I got a Can Am Spyder F3T. I used to ride two wheelers until my knees and a hip went out on me. I enjoy it pretty good. Bought it brand new in 2016 and I’ve ridden it 50k miles with nothing but oil changes and tires. I’d love a two wheeler again I just don’t think I can handle holding them up at lights and pushing them backwards in parking lots.
Better your knees messing up than yer back man, my knees got me out of the Navy early way back, now my back is really slowin me down ridin at times. Take care of them knees brother.
Well, the wing does have a reverse gear. I rented the 1800 when it first came out. Me and my future wife, 2,700 miles in three days. Have a resectioned leg, beneign tumor related, broke the top rod out of my femur, non bike related,highly re-enforced now with a lot more metal. Perhaps when my daughter goes off to school, might make a trike out of my ZX12R.
@@amjrpain919 Thanks. I will look more into that company. Yamaha made a stock one like that, and there are a couple of scooters, too. California side car converts some models into trikes, and there was something called Landing Gear with usually wheels mounted to hard saddle bags that electronically go up and down. I am reading the comments here and I ride a 09 1200rt BMw, and I am so very envious of all you guys being able to ride so far so much and I would too but twenty years ago I had three real bad car accidents, others running red lights and i got the real messed up back, was on disability for seventeen years, I could not work at all, I have a doctorate in astro and acoustic physics, could not even be a guest lecturer but I am not complaining, I ride as much as I am able, I wear leathers mainly as I owned several Harley's during the 70's and chopped all but the Electra Glide, some one said it would be sacralige and I looked for a Harley again after 35 years not riding but could not find one that was ridiculously expensive. Have had a early Wing, ran great and I've heard and read the Valkerie is something else, I'm in south TX and there are mainly Harley's here. Keep riden and stay safe all.
The BMW K1600B is hands down the bike for 1 up riding, it is comfortable, Fast ( 160 HP ), and Handles like a sport bike. I but Remus Exhaust and set of Michelin’s Road 5 GT’s and just puts a smile on my face! I own a Street Glide and a Ducati Diavel as well and the K1600b is usually the bike of choice. It does everything very Well.
The B would be perfect of I could remove the bags. I need to use my bike for commuting and prefer running clean for that. I picked the GT to give me the option of touring on weekends with cases or commuting during the week without.
I own a Vulcan Vaquero. It pains me to see it's not on this list, as it really is a very good bike with (what I consider to be) superior looks to most of these. Big, comfortable, handles very well for such a big bike. Also about 3-6 k less than these. But I do understand why it's not here... no updates in years, basic radio (not even bluetooth, ugh). Runs very hot from the factory, needs an ECU reflash to correct performance issues... good torque but light in the HP department. All of this can be corrected with upgrades, but then you've spent the $$ you saved upfront. Now, I've done everything but the entertainment system, and I love it, but I get it not being on the list. Not even in the same class
Sorry for such a late response but you're right about the vaquero. I absolutely love mine. I've upgraded almost everything on it and made it perfect for me.
Hey Andy and the other Vaquero owners. I love my Harley Davidson's and was about to buy the new HD Fatboy 114, but have been watching the videos and researching the Vulcan Vaquero and I am about to change my mind. Please give me some more feedback to decide which side of the fence I am going to fall on. LOL 😂 I KNOW ultimately it's my choice, but I ALWAYS listen to owners whom I think know better than most of the dealers. Hehehe 😂
I've been lucky enough to ride the BMW Bagger, the Golding and the Challenger, all three machines make it crystal clear just how far Harley are behind.

Can’t stand criticism, harleys, bmw, two worst reliable motorcycles according to consumers reports, and that info comes from owners, how many months a year does your dealer store bike for you then charge you an arm and a leg to let you have it back until the next breakdown.
@@robertpulliam9973 it was a while ago but my last BMW went almost 50k miles with absolutely no issues. I can’t vouch for the new ones, but I’m willing to guess that any problems are probably software related.
I own the mgx 21 for 1.5 year and have pot 23k miles on it. It has had a few minor problems, ie starter switch, ignition replaced, and oil pressure regulator unthreated itself and fell in sump. I rode it dry for probably 2 miles without realizing. No metal in oil. Threaded back in and back to normal. That engine is bullet proof, tough and smooth the best engineered bike I've ridden and the cool factor is off the charts. Every where I go I get positive comments while they ignore my friends harleys. All motorcycles are cool in my book but I can't every see getting rid of this bike. Smooth,scarey fast and beautiful.
Different doesn’t mean one is better than the other it’s like comparing apples to oranges. I believe that I have the best of both worlds in looks, styling, performance and history.
Go find you a good deal on a Victory Vision. Yea I know they are out of business. But nothing made today is even close when it comes to comfort and eating up miles on the backroads and highways. Very dependable too.
@@chazlyle41 Quiet? I'm thinking Goldwing is quieter. Most Indian riders I know install louder mufflers. Six small cylinders make good power with the stock mufflers. Smaller power pulses, more of them, lends itself to effective, efficient , muffling. Big twins are strangled by stock mufflers. Electric bikes are right around the corner. Quiet might in style soon.
I have the Eluder .. it is a .... BEAST! If you get the chance to ride one.. I guarantee you will be surprised.. it rides like a sport bike with the comfort and features of a bagger. Husband has a 19 RG ... 1 extra CC and the dash plastic is better.. but not 10k+ better.

Proud gen 1 fjr owner here.160,000 relatively trouble free miles and still goes zero to 100 in 6 seconds or less, will go over 160 if I really need to, doesn't use oil or anything.I have that and a gen 3 klr.been on many trips with the fjr comfortably with all the side boxes and top box and I usually find the quickest route to the interstate or wide open highway and let it roll and prefer the klr around town and on trails and pot hole streets.
Since 2003 I have had two yamahas. first was the midnight road star. It was an awesome bike. had that for several years and then traded up to the stratoliner S... Wow the bike rocked. 113 C. I. Im getting ready to purchase an eluder with GT package. I have looked at most of the competition and the eluder keeps coming in at 1st place... The bike is air cooled belt driven I just love everything about it. HD are just way over-priced and the technology is inferior... (my opinion)
My 2018 Yamaha Eluder is amazing Tons of torque Super comfortable ride carves corners like a R1 sportbike ! The stereo is sweet to gps works great and the Sirius xm is great !
Yeah. Victory magnum is one of the stylish massive bagger. But Polaris introduced challanger for Indian now. I like challanger more than other baggers here.
Brett Leisy I got the new Challeger which was based off the new 2018 model for Victory which never happened, they threw a Indian badge on a couple of years later
@@BrewTownBiker the Magnum and the Cross Country were great bikes, they had a very unique style to them. the Challenger is too rounded for my tastes. if they "modeled after the magnum" then they missed the mark by a long shot. and they added $10,000 to the price tags. top of the line fully loaded Victory was 28,000 which is about where the chieftain challenger starts at. IMO Polaris shot themselves in both feet when they killed off the Victory line bikes. specially how younger riders (which lets face it, cruisers and baggers are dying out) were purchasing those over other brands in those categories. I think the Victories would have been the future Harley. not saying Indians are bad bikes, love their sound. but end of the day... I would never purchase one, but I would purchase a Victory. I know you can get older models, but I want availability of mods and repairs, and support, which Victory has none of anymore. so unless they come out again in the future, I will stick to my Harleys and Hondas.
Bikes are all personal and affordable preference. I have a 2013 Road King CVO and I have been looking for a reason to get a newer bike, but every bike I test pales in comparison to what I already have, and its paid for. Haha.
I have 2016-CVO Breakout for FUN, and I am liking the looks of the MotoGuzzi for a tourer. I like that it is not humungous like the wing and style never goes out of style!
My Dad was a die heart INdian Chief man back in 47 for a bunch of years but i think he changed when he rode an Electra Glide the first time, he did have a real hard time when he couldn't find a foot clutch.

Those who know, know goldwing is the absolute pinnacle in motorcycle building period. To this day I am surprised there are still other bagger made. It can only be a looks thing because mechanically they can't be touched
@@jymebale5545 what does that have to do with how reliable a goldwing is. I dont remember seeing a six cylinder BMW I'm pretty sure those two bikes are completely different. Is the BMW shaft driven? Goldwing = best touring bike/ bagger especially the New one. Trunk can hold 2 full size helmets !
Great video...I've just purchased a left over 2018 Gold Wing non tour with the 6 speed manual, and I cannot say enough about how much I love this bike--wow!
After doing over 50k miles, with 22k in one summer alone, and no issues other than oil changes and tires, I would have to say the 1000cc Kawasaki Concours is hard to beat. Yeah, they haven’t made them since 2006, but you can still find low mileage units for under $3000. That’s a lot of change left over from these $20k+ behemoths. At just over 100 hp, it thinks it’s a sport bike in the curves.
I love that bike! I currently own a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe but that Vaquero has me thinking "trade in". I do love my Royal Star though, she's comfy and a great ride for trips.
I'm 72 years old, have ridden and owned just about everything. Just purchased the 2021 DCT Goldwing. OMG. Incredible. With a new Ultimate seat my expectations are limitless. I highly recommend this bike. Q.
I have a 2011 Fat Bob bagged out and a large screen for the highways. I love it. Its not as refined as 'modern' bikes but its easy to work on in the garage. My brother has owned several Road Kings but recently bought the Eluder. He cant praise it enough. Power, comfort, ride quality.. its all there for him. 900lb though!!

I have a 16 roadglide special just road it to sturgis us from upstate NY . The sound , feel and tech on the bike is great . Smile every time I’m on the bike As long as your happy to ride the bike you choose that’s all that matters . Plenty of nice machines , ride a few choose the one that fits you best and makes you smile . I did upgrade to legend shocks and a different seat but other than that fluid changes . 24k on the bike and runs like brand new !

Was set on a goldwing till i tested the challenge now im not sure, honda proven bike vs indian comfort and power ,im not sure of the reliability...so i. Still up in the air
RanGer498 I have an Indian scout bobber. Save your self the headaches and get a gold wing. I’ve owned my bike two years and it’s been in the shop each year for something different. Currently it’s in for an electrical issues. Hoping to get it back somewhat soon but it’s been over a month with no solid update other than they are talking with Polaris about the issues.
@@RanGer-498 I'm right there with you. I test rode the Challenger and it was awesome. It's also hideous looking which is something I'm having trouble getting over. I never rode a Goldwing. How do you compare them? I know this, if it's not Harley or Indian then it will have no soul. It may have superior performance, but it will have no soul.

The mew goldwing i have only sat on as getting a roas test is difficult, my one friend from California loves his and we basicly we like the same bikes , he was looking at a challenger as well but decided he needed a bike that currently had more storage for long trips two up and he got a better deal. I agree with the no soul its like thst beautiful girlfriend who can do everything except show you warmth and love it just ends up being an existence with no feelings. I have ridden the older 2017 f6b but im sure its a totally different feel and ride.
The experience of motorcycles is the route and the destination. And the maintainence to bond with the machine. It’s nice to have at least 110hp and 90ibs torque minimum. That can help.
I have an Yamaha Eluder and love it. Went from a Harley ultra classic to this bike but as far as I know Yamaha hasn't produced a new model since 2018 but there's plenty of new ones still out there at the dealers if you searc you can get one for $16,000.
I have the BMW K1600 Grand America and she's one of the best tour/cruisers I have ever ridden. However, the new Goldwing is really starting to catch my eye! Safe riding.
I have a Yamaha Star Venture TC and it's all the bike this old man needs. I bought it because it was the absolute best deal for the money, $10K less than a Goldwing or Harley!
In 2021 the question is whether the BMW R18 B is going to make a dent in the bagger segment. I test rode one and came away mighty impressed, despite my owning several sport bikes currently. But what likely is the turd in the punch bowl is the lack of an adjustable windscreen. I’ve ridden through deserts; been caught in snowstorms in the mountains in June; and once took an 8 day trip where it rained 24/7; and that’s the one feature I refuse to sacrifice. For extended journeys I rely on my BMW RT because it’s fast, handles phenomenally, gets 50 mpg, holds a ton of easily removable gear, and is comfortable as a favorite lounge chair. There are a myriad of extremely capable bikes to choose from!
You also forgot the suzuki 109 cruiser 1900 with a 215tire in the back. Weighs 910 LBS liquid cool,300mm rotors, shaft drivin, fuelinjection, sport suspension what a bike !!! And for the fraction of any Harley.!
The F6B would be my choice I’ve got an 1984 Honda V65 Sabre and it’s still running strong and reliable so I’m a big Honda fan but I think all of the baggers in this video are nice bikes and I would love to try them all out for a couple of hundred miles to see what they’re like but I’m kind of biased towards the Honda so it has to be my first choice. I wish I could afford them all.
You seem to have placed them in the right order with the Goldwing coming in first. Now with the 2020 Goldwing coming in first let's just hope they fixed the bugs with the GPS and the lost of baggage space.
I'm a old school kind of guy, I love my 2011 Harley Davidson Road King. But, my Daddy was a Honda man. He was riding during the AMF days, so that kinda killed it for him and Harleys. I never could convince him they had changed, lol. But with that said, He always said, "It dont matter what ya ride, as long as ya ride". I always hate to hear the arguments on bikes, because ya like what ya like. Period. Now with all that said, if I road anything else, it would have to be the Kawasaki or Yamaha cruisers. Mostly because they have the Harley look........They just can't "mimic" the sound. But it's close😁 Anyway y'all, just RIDE WHAT YA LIKE, AND BE HAPPY. Remember, we all are still "Brothers and Sisters on the Road."👍
I have a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad that I've had for 5 years and put almost 30,000 miles on. It has the positive neutral shift when stopped so you're not hunting for neutral and has plenty enough power for how I ride. I just wish it had a sixth gear.
I currently own an 04 Electra Glide and a 06 Goldwing. I got each bike for around 5k used. I love riding both of them and really have a hard time deciding what to ride every day.

True statement. 1982 Goldwing MSRP $5,500. That's roughly $15,200 in today's money. I remember buying my first new car in 1982; a Mustang LX with POS 4-cylinder for $11,000. Today these two vehicles cost about the same. The mustang might even be cheaper.
I recently purchased a Kia Soul for less OTD than any of these bikes list... That being said, would not mind the Guzzi, though I would absolutely miss the power of my Rocket 3 Touring...
It's funny reading the comments from fellow Harley guys talking about the Goldwing. I too am a Harley guy. I love my 07 Softail. I love putting in my own ideas and custom paint etc . I'll never get rid of it. I am looking for a more long distance bike so I took a few for test rides. I got on a 2019 Goldwing and my only comment I said to the sales man " holy shit" . I thought my Harley was a couch. With it's progressive shocks etc. That Goldwing was like floating in air. The softest most comfortable ride I've ever experienced. I think I know what my next bike will be. I still love my Harleys for the daily fun cruise with my buddies but my vacations will be in a Goldwing. My die hard Harley friends can laugh all they want while they're stretching their backs and putting icyhot all over and I'll be right as rain. He who laughs last

Nice video. Your comment that baggers are dying down I do not agree with. I feel they are continuing to catch people's attention for their many uses. The current trend of performance baggers is bringing a younger crowd to realize how comfortable, fun and powerful these big machines are.

You haven't checked out the fjr and concourse 14 then.remove the bags and ride with hyabusas and more wind protection.young riders are starting to figure this out.

Great video on Non-Harley baggers! I get the legacy & mystique for Harley’s, but I really love the all around performance, technological advancements, and simple maintenance provided by the Goldwing and BMW over the Harley.
@@leoverran311 and what do you ride? There are 3 types of rider; Harley guys who wouldn’t consider anything else, riders who would never consider an HD. Both are wrong IMO. Have an open mind, there are other bikes and Harleys are good bikes.
Seems weird to not include the Kawasaki Vaquero which is cheaper and much more comparable to the Harley and the rest of these motorcycles than the underpowered and top heavy Moto Guzzi.
Vulcan Vaqueros are there in the market and offer great value for money. But with no real updates over the past few years, it was dropped from this list. But yeah, it's a great bagger / tourer.

The Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero is a great budget option so no need for the second mortgage on the house.

I have a 2012 kawasaki vaquero bought it brand new an love it has 52k miles on it
Last year was looking to trade my 2011 HD RoadKing for a Road Glide and kept coming across videos showing the new Goldwing DCT. The more I dug into them the more I wanted to take a closer look. Needless to say the Harley went bye bye and the Goldwing Non-Tour DCT came home with me and 10K miles later not a single second of regret. Love my WIng.

Very similar story: Last 10 years I rode a Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero 1700, another V-Twin bagger. Test drove the BMW - meh. Test drove the Road Glide - really liked it. Test drove the Gold Wing - holy crap, loved it! Brought it home last week and I'm having a blast.

My 1978 Goldwing, full dressed with fairing, bags and trunk, took me 250,000 miles. It was in perfect condition when I sold it. I wish I still owned it but someone offered me an awful lot of money. My 2009 Kawasaki Nomad 1700 is a great bike. Simple bagger; not over dressed like some two wheeled car. a better "road King" than H-D could ever make.
I owned an '83 Gold Wing for a few years. BRILLIANT.
I'm now into cars from the fifties because I'll live longer.
I had too many narrow scrapes on two wheels.
I've owned 'wings since their inception. My brother in California swears by his Harley (ies), I ride while he repairs. Sold my last one with 287,000 miles and still reclaimed over $10,000 in resale. I used this last 'wing for business and putting 30-36,000 miles yearly, the bike paid for itself 5 times over with IRS mileage tax deductions. I've owned (in order of purchase) BSA, Triumph, Enfield, Guzzi, HD, BMW and Honda. 54 years of riding gives a man perspective. Honda...all the way!

The Wing and BMW are seriously a class all their own. It doesn't matter what you Ride, the Wing has always gotten EVERYONE'S respect with BMW hot on their heels.
GW is junk and good luck finding a decent Honda dealer. Most of them suck and they’re few and far between. Yamaha is nice but again, none are available and there are few dealers left. Unless your a mechanic, then stick with either Harley or Indian.

I ride an 06 Vulcan Nomad 1600. I absolutely love my bike. It doesn’t have any of that fancy crap on there, but that’s the way riding is supposed to be.
I have a 09 Vulcan Nomad and agree with your comments entirely. Love it. Previously been around Victoria, Tasmania and rode back over the Nullabor on a 2007 model and loved it. No issues at all. Have had 3 Vulcans so far and I find them very comfortable, easy to maintain and does everything a cruiser is designed for - at nearly half the cost of Harleys and Indians.
I had a 98 Vulcan Nomad, rode it around Australia in 23 days, 19 travelling 4 rest days. Awesome bike..

Well I got a Can Am Spyder F3T. I used to ride two wheelers until my knees and a hip went out on me. I enjoy it pretty good. Bought it brand new in 2016 and I’ve ridden it 50k miles with nothing but oil changes and tires. I’d love a two wheeler again I just don’t think I can handle holding them up at lights and pushing them backwards in parking lots.
Better your knees messing up than yer back man, my knees got me out of the Navy early way back, now my back is really slowin me down ridin at times. Take care of them knees brother.
Well, the wing does have a reverse gear. I rented the 1800 when it first came out. Me and my future wife, 2,700 miles in three days. Have a resectioned leg, beneign tumor related, broke the top rod out of my femur, non bike related,highly re-enforced now with a lot more metal. Perhaps when my daughter goes off to school, might make a trike out of my ZX12R.

@@amjrpain919 Thanks. I will look more into that company. Yamaha made a stock one like that, and there are a couple of scooters, too. California side car converts some models into trikes, and there was something called Landing Gear with usually wheels mounted to hard saddle bags that electronically go up and down.

I am reading the comments here and I ride a 09 1200rt BMw, and I am so very envious of all you guys being able to ride so far so much and I would too but twenty years ago I had three real bad car accidents, others running red lights and i got the real messed up back, was on disability for seventeen years, I could not work at all, I have a doctorate in astro and acoustic physics, could not even be a guest lecturer but I am not complaining, I ride as much as I am able, I wear leathers mainly as I owned several Harley's during the 70's and chopped all but the Electra Glide, some one said it would be sacralige and I looked for a Harley again after 35 years not riding but could not find one that was ridiculously expensive. Have had a early Wing, ran great and I've heard and read the Valkerie is something else, I'm in south TX and there are mainly Harley's here. Keep riden and stay safe all.
The BMW K1600B is hands down the bike for 1 up riding, it is comfortable, Fast ( 160 HP ), and Handles like a sport bike. I but Remus Exhaust and set of Michelin’s Road 5 GT’s and just puts a smile on my face! I own a Street Glide and a Ducati Diavel as well and the K1600b is usually the bike of choice. It does everything very Well.
The B would be perfect of I could remove the bags. I need to use my bike for commuting and prefer running clean for that. I picked the GT to give me the option of touring on weekends with cases or commuting during the week without.
I'll take my fjr or my old concourse 14 any day.

I used to have 1996 Valkyrie. It I was very smooth and easy to handle. Especially Honda’s flat 6 was extremely low balanced and beautiful.
I own a Vulcan Vaquero. It pains me to see it's not on this list, as it really is a very good bike with (what I consider to be) superior looks to most of these. Big, comfortable, handles very well for such a big bike. Also about 3-6 k less than these. But I do understand why it's not here... no updates in years, basic radio (not even bluetooth, ugh). Runs very hot from the factory, needs an ECU reflash to correct performance issues... good torque but light in the HP department. All of this can be corrected with upgrades, but then you've spent the $$ you saved upfront. Now, I've done everything but the entertainment system, and I love it, but I get it not being on the list. Not even in the same class
Sorry for such a late response but you're right about the vaquero. I absolutely love mine. I've upgraded almost everything on it and made it perfect for me.

Hey Andy and the other Vaquero owners. I love my Harley Davidson's and was about to buy the new HD Fatboy 114, but have been watching the videos and researching the Vulcan Vaquero and I am about to change my mind.

I've been lucky enough to ride the BMW Bagger, the Golding and the Challenger, all three machines make it crystal clear just how far Harley are behind.

Can’t stand criticism, harleys, bmw, two worst reliable motorcycles according to consumers reports, and that info comes from owners, how many months a year does your dealer store bike for you then charge you an arm and a leg to let you have it back until the next breakdown.
@@robertpulliam9973 it was a while ago but my last BMW went almost 50k miles with absolutely no issues. I can’t vouch for the new ones, but I’m willing to guess that any problems are probably software related.
I own the mgx 21 for 1.5 year and have pot 23k miles on it. It has had a few minor problems, ie starter switch, ignition replaced, and oil pressure regulator unthreated itself and fell in sump. I rode it dry for probably 2 miles without realizing. No metal in oil. Threaded back in and back to normal. That engine is bullet proof, tough and smooth the best engineered bike I've ridden and the cool factor is off the charts. Every where I go I get positive comments while they ignore my friends harleys. All motorcycles are cool in my book but I can't every see getting rid of this bike. Smooth,scarey fast and beautiful.
I own both the Harley Davidson Streetglide CVO and the BMW K1600B . Both great bikes but quite different in their own right.

Different doesn’t mean one is better than the other it’s like comparing apples to oranges. I believe that I have the best of both worlds in looks, styling, performance and history.

Go find you a good deal on a Victory Vision. Yea I know they are out of business. But nothing made today is even close when it comes to comfort and eating up miles on the backroads and highways. Very dependable too.

Gold wing riders I’ve spoken to who have ridden (or switched to) the Indian Challenger all says it’s a better experience in every way.
@@chazlyle41 Quiet? I'm thinking Goldwing is quieter. Most Indian riders I know install louder mufflers. Six small cylinders make good power with the stock mufflers. Smaller power pulses, more of them, lends itself to effective, efficient , muffling. Big twins are strangled by stock mufflers. Electric bikes are right around the corner. Quiet might in style soon.

Husband has a 19 RG ... 1 extra CC and the dash plastic is better.. but not 10k+ better.

Proud gen 1 fjr owner here.160,000 relatively trouble free miles and still goes zero to 100 in 6 seconds or less, will go over 160 if I really need to, doesn't use oil or anything.I have that and a gen 3 klr.been on many trips with the fjr comfortably with all the side boxes and top box and I usually find the quickest route to the interstate or wide open highway and let it roll and prefer the klr around town and on trails and pot hole streets.
Since 2003 I have had two yamahas. first was the midnight road star. It was an awesome bike. had that for several years and then traded up to the stratoliner S... Wow the bike rocked. 113 C. I. Im getting ready to purchase an eluder with GT package. I have looked at most of the competition and the eluder keeps coming in at 1st place... The bike is air cooled belt driven I just love everything about it. HD are just way over-priced and the technology is inferior... (my opinion)
My 2018 Yamaha Eluder is amazing Tons of torque Super comfortable ride carves corners like a R1 sportbike ! The stereo is sweet to gps works great and the Sirius xm is great !

I miss the Victory bikes, I likely would of had one of them instead of my harley, love my harley, but damn those victory bikes were sweet.
Yeah. Victory magnum is one of the stylish massive bagger. But Polaris introduced challanger for Indian now. I like challanger more than other baggers here.

@@BrewTownBiker the Magnum and the Cross Country were great bikes, they had a very unique style to them. the Challenger is too rounded for my tastes. if they "modeled after the magnum" then they missed the mark by a long shot. and they added $10,000 to the price tags. top of the line fully loaded Victory was 28,000 which is about where the chieftain challenger starts at. IMO Polaris shot themselves in both feet when they killed off the Victory line bikes. specially how younger riders (which lets face it, cruisers and baggers are dying out) were purchasing those over other brands in those categories. I think the Victories would have been the future Harley.
not saying Indians are bad bikes, love their sound. but end of the day... I would never purchase one, but I would purchase a Victory. I know you can get older models, but I want availability of mods and repairs, and support, which Victory has none of anymore. so unless they come out again in the future, I will stick to my Harleys and Hondas.
I have a 2014 cross roads 8 ball. I used to have a 2013 harley street bob. Ioved the color but the Victory is so comfortable and smooth.
I’m glad there is such a variety of bikes to choose from. That’s what makes us great. I’m a die heart HD guy but that’s just me.
Bikes are all personal and affordable preference. I have a 2013 Road King CVO and I have been looking for a reason to get a newer bike, but every bike I test pales in comparison to what I already have, and its paid for. Haha.
I have 2016-CVO Breakout for FUN, and I am liking the looks of the MotoGuzzi for a tourer. I like that it is not humungous like the wing and style never goes out of style!
My Dad was a die heart INdian Chief man back in 47 for a bunch of years but i think he changed when he rode an Electra Glide the first time, he did have a real hard time when he couldn't find a foot clutch.

Those who know, know goldwing is the absolute pinnacle in motorcycle building period. To this day I am surprised there are still other bagger made. It can only be a looks thing because mechanically they can't be touched

Yes, the Vaquero has way better styling cues than all the bikes featured in this list, and I bet it's sales #s are better too in the U.S.

After doing over 50k miles, with 22k in one summer alone, and no issues other than oil changes and tires, I would have to say the 1000cc Kawasaki Concours is hard to beat. Yeah, they haven’t made them since 2006, but you can still find low mileage units for under $3000. That’s a lot of change left over from these $20k+ behemoths. At just over 100 hp, it thinks it’s a sport bike in the curves.
Sold my concourse 14 and got a fjr both awesome tourers and iron butt favorites and gobs of powah.love them both.some have over 200,000 miles on them.
Been riding Road Kings for 33 years but that BMW looks enticing.
My buddy has a bmw 1600 and I can tell you its freaking quick and quiet. Surprisingly quick.

I'm 72 years old, have ridden and owned just about everything. Just purchased the 2021 DCT Goldwing. OMG. Incredible. With a new Ultimate seat my expectations are limitless. I highly recommend this bike. Q.

I have a 2011 Fat Bob bagged out and a large screen for the highways. I love it. Its not as refined as 'modern' bikes but its easy to work on in the garage. My brother has owned several Road Kings but recently bought the Eluder. He cant praise it enough. Power, comfort, ride quality.. its all there for him. 900lb though!!
I had a 10 and it would beat you to death could not get it to ride soft replaced with a 10 Nomad could not be happier

I have a 16 roadglide special just road it to sturgis us from upstate NY . The sound , feel and tech on the bike is great . Smile every time I’m on the bike
As long as your happy to ride the bike you choose that’s all that matters . Plenty of nice machines , ride a few choose the one that fits you best and makes you smile .
I did upgrade to legend shocks and a different seat but other than that fluid changes . 24k on the bike and runs like brand new !

The indian challenger is a moderate upscale victory cross country for twice the price!!!!
Don't forget the KTM Super Duke GT - it has hard bags but definitely leans to the "sport" side of touring.

Challanger is my choice. Indian is always the best Harley killer in all it's models.
Was set on a goldwing till i tested the challenge now im not sure, honda proven bike vs indian comfort and power ,im not sure of the reliability...so i. Still up in the air
RanGer498 I have an Indian scout bobber. Save your self the headaches and get a gold wing. I’ve owned my bike two years and it’s been in the shop each year for something different. Currently it’s in for an electrical issues. Hoping to get it back somewhat soon but it’s been over a month with no solid update other than they are talking with Polaris about the issues.

The mew goldwing i have only sat on as getting a roas test is difficult, my one friend from California loves his and we basicly we like the same bikes , he was looking at a challenger as well but decided he needed a bike that currently had more storage for long trips two up and he got a better deal. I agree with the no soul its like thst beautiful girlfriend who can do everything except show you warmth and love it just ends up being an existence with no feelings. I have ridden the older 2017 f6b but im sure its a totally different feel and ride.
After riding for 25 years, just got my first bagger, a 2018 Yamaha Eluder. Its smooth, but defiinitely for cooler weather being air-cooled.
The experience of motorcycles is the route and the destination. And the maintainence to bond with the machine. It’s nice to have at least 110hp and 90ibs torque minimum. That can help.
Eluder owner here, I wish Yamaha would have kept the V4 platform instead of the V-twin
It's what's keeping me from settling on it... The torque is great, but that V4 was no joke.

I have an Yamaha Eluder and love it. Went from a Harley ultra classic to this bike but as far as I know Yamaha hasn't produced a new model since 2018 but there's plenty of new ones still out there at the dealers if you searc you can get one for $16,000.
I have the BMW K1600 Grand America and she's one of the best tour/cruisers I have ever ridden. However, the new Goldwing is really starting to catch my eye! Safe riding.
I have a Yamaha Star Venture TC and it's all the bike this old man needs. I bought it because it was the absolute best deal for the money, $10K less than a Goldwing or Harley!

In 2021 the question is whether the BMW R18 B is going to make a dent in the bagger segment. I test rode one and came away mighty impressed, despite my owning several sport bikes currently. But what likely is the turd in the punch bowl is the lack of an adjustable windscreen. I’ve ridden through deserts; been caught in snowstorms in the mountains in June; and once took an 8 day trip where it rained 24/7; and that’s the one feature I refuse to sacrifice. For extended journeys I rely on my BMW RT because it’s fast, handles phenomenally, gets 50 mpg, holds a ton of easily removable gear, and is comfortable as a favorite lounge chair. There are a myriad of extremely capable bikes to choose from!
One up I would prefer the BMW or Goldwing. For 2 up, definitely the GW.
The K1609GTL is a bit better than the B 2up.. but holy Christ yes the Goldwing can't be beat 2up.
Baggers are definitely not dying any time soon. Theres will always be a need

The F6B would be my choice I’ve got an 1984 Honda V65 Sabre and it’s still running strong and reliable so I’m a big Honda fan but I think all of the baggers in this video are nice bikes and I would love to try them all out for a couple of hundred miles to see what they’re like but I’m kind of biased towards the Honda so it has to be my first choice. I wish I could afford them all.
You seem to have placed them in the right order with the Goldwing coming in first. Now with the 2020 Goldwing coming in first let's just hope they fixed the bugs with the GPS and the lost of baggage space.

I'm a old school kind of guy, I love my 2011 Harley Davidson Road King. But, my Daddy was a Honda man. He was riding during the AMF days, so that kinda killed it for him and Harleys. I never could convince him they had changed, lol. But with that said, He always said, "It dont matter what ya ride, as long as ya ride". I always hate to hear the arguments on bikes, because ya like what ya like. Period. Now with all that said, if I road anything else, it would have to be the Kawasaki or Yamaha cruisers. Mostly because they have the Harley look........They just can't "mimic" the sound. But it's close😁 Anyway y'all, just RIDE WHAT YA LIKE, AND BE HAPPY. Remember, we all are still "Brothers and Sisters on the Road."👍

I have a 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad that I've had for 5 years and put almost 30,000 miles on. It has the positive neutral shift when stopped so you're not hunting for neutral and has plenty enough power for how I ride. I just wish it had a sixth gear.
I've had most touring bikes. Loved them all. But the undisputed king of touring bikes is the Goldwing. Always has been. Always will be.

I currently own an 04 Electra Glide and a 06 Goldwing. I got each bike for around 5k used. I love riding both of them and really have a hard time deciding what to ride every day.
I know it’s apples and oranges but I’m torn between the new goldwing tour and the challenger. Both great bikes in their own right.
Why i have to decide if in want to have an fulldresser or a bagger? Where ist the modular bike with easy changeable windshields and easy removable topcases?
Indian does have removable top cases.
The Honda Goldwing is the most attractive bagger available in the market.
Just a little correction, at the begining of the video it was mentioned that the Harley was a 107 cc motor. In actuality it is a 107 cu inch motor.

True statement. 1982 Goldwing MSRP $5,500. That's roughly $15,200 in today's money. I remember buying my first new car in 1982; a Mustang LX with POS 4-cylinder for $11,000. Today these two vehicles cost about the same. The mustang might even be cheaper.
I recently purchased a Kia Soul for less OTD than any of these bikes list... That being said, would not mind the Guzzi, though I would absolutely miss the power of my Rocket 3 Touring...

It's funny reading the comments from fellow Harley guys talking about the Goldwing.
I too am a Harley guy. I love my 07 Softail. I love putting in my own ideas and custom paint etc . I'll never get rid of it. I am looking for a more long distance bike so I took a few for test rides. I got on a 2019 Goldwing and my only comment I said to the sales man " holy shit" . I thought my Harley was a couch. With it's progressive shocks etc. That Goldwing was like floating in air. The softest most comfortable ride I've ever experienced. I think I know what my next bike will be. I still love my Harleys for the daily fun cruise with my buddies but my vacations will be in a Goldwing. My die hard Harley friends can laugh all they want while they're stretching their backs and putting icyhot all over and I'll be right as rain.

Nice video. Your comment that baggers are dying down I do not agree with. I feel they are continuing to catch people's attention for their many uses. The current trend of performance baggers is bringing a younger crowd to realize how comfortable, fun and powerful these big machines are.

You haven't checked out the fjr and concourse 14 then.remove the bags and ride with hyabusas and more wind protection.young riders are starting to figure this out.

Great video on Non-Harley baggers! I get the legacy & mystique for Harley’s, but I really love the all around performance, technological advancements, and simple maintenance provided by the Goldwing and BMW over the Harley.

I was not a fan of the riding position on a Goldwing. So glad the dealer let me test ride it before hand , I also was not a fan of the radio.

Rode it, great bike, but too heavy for my liking.I’d consider the BMW RT or the Yamaha FJR 1300.
Goldwing is the pinnacle of touring, 1 or 2 up. Same is true for the past Goldwings going back to the 1980s.. it's so fucking incredible.

Honda Goldwing Bagger is the only one I would have.
If I get a bike that big I want a frame mounted fairing - much easier on the arms with less buffeting from oncoming traffic

Seems weird to not include the Kawasaki Vaquero which is cheaper and much more comparable to the Harley and the rest of these motorcycles than the underpowered and top heavy Moto Guzzi.
I’m sure all these offer better VFM than Harley. Aren’t big Vulcans being made anymore ? Could they have been included ?
Vulcan Vaqueros are there in the market and offer great value for money. But with no real updates over the past few years, it was dropped from this list. But yeah, it's a great bagger / tourer.

2012 kawasaki voyager after 6 wings and a couple of harlys. Just wanted less tech and mostly motorcycle.
I have a streetglide but I wouldn’t mind having any of those other bikes
