  • I did a quick video on how I did my Saitek Rubber Band mod. If you have not done this mod yet and your fight yoke feels sticky or it grabs and makes it hard to flare. This mod is for you. Remember it does void your warranty so if you just bought your yoke I wouldn't do this mod yet. If it has been over a year then the warranty is void anyway.

I made a couple of mods that seem to work well. First, I used one of the two springs that were originally for the pitch and used it for the roll. This was done by snipping each end of the spring just past the curl at the end, and then bending it back over again to make the spring just a bit shorter. Doing this to both ends makes it just the right length that you can install it across the top two tabs of the roll controls in the yoke. Second, I used hair ties instead of rubber bands. I also greased the shaft with a multi-purpose synthetic grease.
I came across this video while looking for instructions on how to disassemble so I could investigate the 'sticky' yoke problem. Thanks for the solution.

Wow....that's a whole lotta work to solve a non-issue. I've used that yoke for about a year and never had a problem with it sticking - it always works flawlessly. I also have a Velocity One yoke which I prefer over the Saitek

Just lubricant the shaft and won't stick, a bit of olive oil on shaft, not going crazy with lubricant works a treat, any lubricant that does not eat plastic is fine. I put a thin coating of oil, a few drops and is as smooth as silk

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is a federal law in the USA enacted in 1975 and, among other things, states that your warranty may not be voided by opening and cleaning/repairing/hacking/modifying a product unless the manufacturer proves in court that what you did by opening/hacking/etc. your product is what caused it to need repair/replacement under the terms of the warranty. It is a violation of federal law to void your warranty for any product in the United States simply by opening it, unless opening it, doing things inside it actually broke it. Most companies rely on consumers not knowing about this, but if you threaten to sue them when they attempt to void your warranty and start making a public fuss over it, they will cave because it's cheaper for them to just repair or replace your product than it is to have you sue them and then they have a big legal hubub to deal with, even if you have shitty lawyers and they have great ones.

That is great information, I just want people to know before trying to take things apart they could run into issues. Thanks again and have a great day!

How long are those rubber bands going to last? I have had rubber bands dry out just sitting it the bag in a drawer.

I used it for about 6 months before I got the honeycomb installed. there is so much grease inside of the yoke I think it will keep it from drying out. and if not it take about 15 minutes to replace them.

Hi honeycomb is nearly double the price here in Australia. Is worth spending that much or shall I get the Logitech yoke. What's your thoughts on this

@@skidrow-black this depends on what you are after in the end. I wanted more realistic and the honeycomb to me feels closer to the plane I train in which is a Cessna 150 in real life. It has a larger turn radius it goes almost 90 degrees! I also drive in America truck simulator and the yoke works great for that. But if you are not trying to work on real flying and are okay with more (game like) controls the saitek is just fine! I liked my honeycomb so much I modified it to work in the sim knowing I would void the warranty!

I went to Ace Hardware and got lesser springs, did not touch lateral mechanism as it seemed fine to me. Picked up a couple different springs to try out. They will last longer than rubber bands.

Even some of the brand new expensive ones use elastic bands.

I have read that Logitech who bought saitek has updated drivers for some of their devices, maybe check their website and see if they have one for the yoke?

Good idea - not a good execution showing how to do it on video (once you zoomed in you never returned the zoom outward so the camera misses about 90% of what you show).

@@diyflightsim4246 Changed my comment, words were originally too harsh even if it wasn't your first few videos. I need to be better. Thx for showing the way.

Much appreciated, I ended up going with the honeycomb yoke and this one now sits under my sim, maybe I can try and do a new video that shows it better. Enjoy simming it kinda sucks you in!!

well i wouldnt do a rubber band mod id just get stiffer springs im sure they can be found == youre just destroying that yoke

    • @diyflightsim4246
      @diyflightsim4246  2 года назад

Stiffer springs would work as well. but are harder to come by then some rubber bands. I am not sure how doing the rubber band mod is destroying the yoke as if you really wanted to you could fully put it back to how it came. I have all the parts that come out in a bag ready to reinstall if I need to.
