Is twin oaks a mod or is it in the game? It’s my home air park and I’d love to do some flying from there!
@@sharkman663 Nope not a mod, it’s close to the real look not fully though. It’s also where I train. It would be cool to someday make a mod that makes it look how it does now. When I started the career mode I made Twin Oaks my home base. Also since you already go to Twin Oaks, make sure you come out for our monthly Breakfast (in real life!) it’s always the 1st Saturday of every month!
@@FlightSimJammer I’m going on Jan 4th! Merry Christmas! I just got FS 2024, definitely gonna use twin oaks as my home base for bush flying! Maybe you could do a video like that?
@ that’s a good idea, I’m still working through the commercial part. But I will make that plan! I also want to do camping from the plane in real life when I get my PPL! Merry Christmas!
Can anyone tell me where I can download for free, high resolution quadrant instrument gauges for printing ? As it is for decoration purposes, I would like a 60's or 70's cockpit panel (without screen avionics - just round intrument gauges). My panel Will have 70 cms length. There's an important detail: the instrument gauge cannot have the pointer. Just the layout or the raw quadrant.
I am not sure of a place that has those kind of images. I had to design mine in Adobe illustrator. The other option that would not be free, you could find old gauges that have been removed from aircraft and take them apart. That’s how I got the RPM gauge to get the ball rolling. Another option could be to find a picture of what you need with the needles and photoshop the needles out of the pictures. Good luck on your project!
Good luck trying to get A on the last assignment. Have tried quite a few times and always get B.
suxx
Is bro in an actual cockpit? 😂
Yes, My sim is built from a 1978 Cessna 152 that I took all the Flight sim stuff and made it work in the real plane. It's been a fun project!
Hello, looks amazing. What material did you use to build the base of your panel as well as the black textured liner on the dash? I am starting my build but don’t know the name of the material to get.
Thank you. It’s always a work in progress! The panel where the gauges are mounted is 1/4” mdf. The top of the dash is made from foam and marine grade vinyl that looks like leather from the craft store. I have a video on making the dash pad on the channel. Here is the link. Hope your project turns out fantastic!! ruclips.net/video/Mf2hqJm626Q/видео.html
@ oh last thing, would you happen to know where I can get the panel measurements for a Piper Seminole PA-44? I did a google search looking and feel hopeless. Maybe you know something I don’t lol.
@ I don’t but I would bet if you had a local ga airport by you and someone had the plane they would let you or help you measure it. It’s worth the ask the worst they can say is no.
I’m trying to build one for my girlfriend who is a new pilot. A few questions I hope you can help me so I can get it done before Christmas! 1. Looks like the old website/way to upload weather isn’t available? 2. Where is the best place to find my map image to save for a Walgreens print? 3. I’ve never done anything like this so may have more questions
Thank you so much for the questions. As far as I know the aviation.gov is working. My map behind me is still working just fine. they did make a change to the website and you had to change that in the code but I'm pretty sure I added that to the comments section on the video. If not all you want to look for these lines in the code and make sure that this is what it says. #define SERVER "aviationweather.gov" #define BASE_URI "/cgi-bin/data/dataserver.php?dataSource=metars&requestType=retri As far as the map I had to use Adobe photoshop and merge two maps together. It depends on the location you are doing and how big you want the map. I did mine 20x30 as that is the size of poster board at Hobby Lobby. You could make it any size you want though. I used this site to get the maps in the first place. faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/digital_products/vfr/ Let me know if you have more questions. I would be happy to help. It did take a little trial and error to get it going but don't give up I see no reason why you could not do it before Christmas!
Thanks! Ordered the computer and lights today should be in Monday, picking up the picture and poster board today and will start getting that prepped for light install. I’ll be back with more Q’s for you soon
@ sounds awesome! It will turn out great!
I’m trying to get a list of the airports I can use, I’m on aviation weather.gov….. now where do I go from there (none of the links work)to check if they will work?
So when I’m on the aviationweather.gov/ website website, how do I tell which airports are the ones I can use?
Fuck this goddamn game
Are you kidding me! I needed this years ago 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 how cool 🫡
It still works amazing. Its been hanging on my wall with no problems, except when the weather reporting website changed their website info. Easy fix and I think everyone should make one!
Nice one! How are you finding 2024?
It lacks a lot, but it is a game at the end of the day. I was able to take the time to pass the PPL last night. I think it should make it more like real life where you need at least 40 hours flight time. and the check ride is like the real check ride. That may be a more advanced simulation that someone should come out with!
Nice video. Good job there, "Jammer"! :D I like to build gauges for my sim for the flight simulator DCS World, but it seems that the software (for the Stepper motor "28BYJ-48" (with ULN2003 Driver Board) that you are using), "Mobi Flight" only support these games: "These are the simulators that we support MSFS2020, P3D, FSX, FS9 X-Plane 12, X-Plane 11,X-Plane 10, X-Plane 9". Is there someone who knows if I can use this for DCS? ; )
I looked into it and could not find another program that does it, maybe someone else can chime in. I do follow this channel and he is building a Jet fighter pit and shows how to build your own panels. I would check out his channel! ruclips.net/video/3XxNbP91H5U/видео.htmlsi=gmHCAiDbMzdOOpi7 Hope this helps Flight Sim Jammer.
Wau....
Wishing you all the best with your new printer. I hope that out can speed meny enjoyable hours with it. Regards. MIKE IRISH PS, I hope that you will make a follow-up video to let us all know how you are getting on with the printer. Have you installed auy updates to the firmware and if so has it improved your use ability and performance of the printer.
Why dont you get a carpenters square to make sure that the gantry is square off the base on each side. Then, fit the strenting rode to hold everything taught and hold everything in square. Cheers. Mike Irish
That's a great idea I will try that. It does seam to print great but there is always room for improvement!
Hi, how did you connect and calibrate the instrument
There are a couple programs you can use. I use Mobi Flight as it works with both X-Plane and MSFS. Another one is simvim, I also believe AirManager can now do this as well.
Very helpful video, thanks very much! Ever since I saw the cable coil connection between the yoke and the base I wondered if this could be made into a detachable/swappable Yoke on an axle. It seems like it would only take removing a little bit of plastic to uncover the two key screws in your video, and that would make it swappable for different shapes/3D prints/wheels etc.
You really could, there is a metal collar inside the yoke that holds it to the shaft and that is held to the yoke with a couple screws as you said. It would not take a lot of work to do really.
are those banana plugs on the speaker wire? 1:50
Yes they are.
Do you know what size screws the 2 phillips screws holding the shaft in place to the metal handle were and if they were metric or sae. Would totally appreciate a response. Great video.
I’m sorry I do not know what size they are but I’m sure they are metric.
Thanks for the quick response.
Music far too loud, narration very quiet then deafened but bloody music, good video otherwise.
Thank you for the feedback. I am not a professional at video editing, though I do try my best. Hopefully the other videos I made after will better suit you. I will keep your comment in mind when adding music to my other videos.
What do you use to draw the gauge?
I used Adobe illustrator and moved stuff around until I liked it. But you could use any drawing program. Then sent it to my printer and cut it out, to make sure I liked it before sending it to the laser.
Good idea - not a good execution showing how to do it on video (once you zoomed in you never returned the zoom outward so the camera misses about 90% of what you show).
Sorry the video didn’t work out for you. It was one of my first videos I had made. I did try my best at the time. Good luck with your project!
@@FlightSimJammer Changed my comment, words were originally too harsh even if it wasn't your first few videos. I need to be better. Thx for showing the way.
Much appreciated, I ended up going with the honeycomb yoke and this one now sits under my sim, maybe I can try and do a new video that shows it better. Enjoy simming it kinda sucks you in!!
Thanks for the tutorial! Did you notice the exact type of potentiometer that is used? The info could be v useful when it fails!
I did not, however that would have been a great idea! Glad the video helped out!
hello :) No STL files ?
Not at this time, they are not perfect. Maybe someday I can rework them so others could use them.
so you pay £80 to £100 now so 2 years ago it was what £200 and we put elastic bands in it WTF!!!
Even some of the brand new expensive ones use elastic bands.
Hi! Great job and cool board! What is the power cord and where does it plug in? Thx...Tom
Thanks Tom! The cord is the standard cord that comes with the ESP8266 which looks like a Micro USB. I have mine powered from a old iPad charge block that I had laying around but any charge block that can put out 2 amps should work fine. Good Luck on your build!!!!
I'm getting ready to build and collecting everything. One thing I'm not clear on is how to program FastLED 3.0. Is that something you can offer some advice on? Thank you...Tom
@@toma5842 Sorry Tom I was out of town. I just got back and had to try and remember how to do this part. I think I found what you are after. Download the FastLED code from github.com/FastLED/FastLED/releases. Once downloaded either copy it or if you have to extract it then extract it into your Arduino Libraries folder in Your Documents\Arduino\libraries\FastLED. when you go into the Arduino program to make all the updates of your airports in the lines it says to use FastLED and I believe it will pull it from that folder when you upload the "sketch" to the ESP. Let me know if that helps answer your question.
Thank you! I'll be working on this in the next week or two.@@FlightSimJammer
Very Helpful 😀 Thanks for making this tutorial !!! Now that it's extended - have you considered adding a 2nd yoke that is linked to the 1st one (IE - one for a co-pilot) ? If so please show us how you did it ? 😀 Thanks
In this sim no. I was going to but no one in my house likes to fly with me haha. I am going to be starting the other plane that we got it is also a c150. I am going to hook up both yolks and rudder pedals in that one. it will also be shown on this channel! If I was to do this mod again I would make the yoke body sit all the way to the firewall and then you could add a gear to the shaft to the other yoke with a bike chain to have then turn with each other. Then would have to figure out how to make then go forward and aft.
@@FlightSimJammer Thanks bro !!!
do you have a video how you connected the lights to the board? Im trying to find a way to temp connect them so I can find the right pins... and for FASTLED you mean 3.3.0? I can't find 3.0.0 and everyone else I've seen mentions the same thing but does 3.3.0
I’m on a trip and not near my setup. But it’s just soldered to the board. I believe I used pin D2 but can’t remember off the top of my head. I noticed others used 3.0.0 but I couldn’t find it so went with what I put in the video and that worked for me.
Hope that helps a little I’ll be gone for 16 days but I’ll try and check when I get home.
@@FlightSimJammer ah I thought you said 3.0.0 in the video, probably misheard sorry. Just new to soldering so was wondering if there was a temp solution so I dont ruin it.
@@FlightSimJammer It did thank you, I went ahead and soldered the 3v3 and gnd then just held the last wire to D2 nothing, worked on D5 tho so able to move on with the project! now just getting the sectional printed!
@@gilliganxl Just got back to town, I hope it turned out how you wanted it!! It makes for really cool wall art!!!
Great idea and thanks for the info. This is giving me ideas...
It’s been a couple weeks and I still love it! Because it’s in my room I unplug it every night and back in when morning comes. But you could also just leave it plugged in all the time! Have fun with the build!!!
@@FlightSimJammer how did you cut the holes on the map itself, ive made a map already but looking to make another and using different techniques. My map shows high winds, rain, lightning, wind speed direction, taf, etc and has a dimmer light sensor for day/night use
@@amrutherford12 it was super easy with the foam board drill kit. I used the super 77 glue glued the map to the board. I let it dry for about 5 minutes while getting other things ready. Then drilled through both the map and foam all together. If someone wanted to make it a little more discreet you could take your print out of the same map take it to the board and cut through both of them. Then glue the new map over it so you don’t actually see the bulbs then when something is not reporting it would just be blank instead of what looks like a burnt out bulb.
@@FlightSimJammer okay cool. I’ll have to try that foam drill. I hand cut the foam my first round 😬 43 stations and map came out to be 38x42. It’s now on display at a local FBO.
@@amrutherford12 wow that’s a lot of work, the only think with the drills it will give you a blister so just pay attention to that. If you are using the standard bullet pixels I would use the smallest one that comes in the drill kit. It just fits the tip of the pixel out and looks way better. Also the amazon link I posted is not an affiliate like I don’t make any money off of it. Feel free to click it to see the exact one I got. Good luck with your project!
Awesome job!!!! I'm making similar gauges for an F16 flight sim, using engraved plastic on my Xtool D1.. Mine are only static for now, but I'll implement movement soon.
The nice thing on yours is you may be able to use the faces you engraved and just add a stepper motor to the back of them.
This a different question. Are you able to help out on the wiring for the RJ45 connectors please?I bought a second hand Alfa yoke but the RJ45 connectors wire was missing. Thank you
@@kevindeason4525 I tried the straight through cable and it worked a treat. Thank you for taking the time to check your cable and replying. Saved me £22.
Hello sir, can you share me what parts you used, STL files of 3D model and wiring diagram?
There is no wiring diagram its simple two wire buttons. Fusion 360 does not allow the sharing of files with the one I have. It is really super easy to make one on your own though!
Just bought one of these minis , happy to have found your setup video!
I've been using it for about a year or more and it still gives it that realism feeling. There are a few other programs to use with it one is called, Sim shaker for Aviators. They also have one for like racing and whatnot. it just makes it a little more real feeling. It is like a free trial type thing and you can pay a little extra to have it fully unlocked. Not saying you have to get it but it does add to the feeling. Hope you like it as much as I do!
Wow....that's a whole lotta work to solve a non-issue. I've used that yoke for about a year and never had a problem with it sticking - it always works flawlessly. I also have a Velocity One yoke which I prefer over the Saitek
Did you thread the holes in the coupling you made??
I meant the new shaft you cut
@@johnpesale3896 On the yoke side I just did straight through. and have nuts on the bottom side. On the base side I drilled through the coupler and just used the original holes that way I can put it back to "stock" if I every want to switch it out.
Prⓞм𝕠𝕤𝐌 💥
I made a couple of mods that seem to work well. First, I used one of the two springs that were originally for the pitch and used it for the roll. This was done by snipping each end of the spring just past the curl at the end, and then bending it back over again to make the spring just a bit shorter. Doing this to both ends makes it just the right length that you can install it across the top two tabs of the roll controls in the yoke. Second, I used hair ties instead of rubber bands. I also greased the shaft with a multi-purpose synthetic grease. I came across this video while looking for instructions on how to disassemble so I could investigate the 'sticky' yoke problem. Thanks for the solution.
well i wouldnt do a rubber band mod id just get stiffer springs im sure they can be found == youre just destroying that yoke
Stiffer springs would work as well. but are harder to come by then some rubber bands. I am not sure how doing the rubber band mod is destroying the yoke as if you really wanted to you could fully put it back to how it came. I have all the parts that come out in a bag ready to reinstall if I need to.
Worried at all about the longer shaft putting more stress on the unit? Something has to supper that inside the mechanism
Not really it has been done for about a year and I even have my yoke mount with my iPad mini attached to it and have had no issues so far. I will someday redo it and move it back farther in the glare shield area so it’s just a shaft coming out and when I do I may Install a bearing or some kind of support to help hold it in place.
@@FlightSimJammer cool. I just got my alpha. Building a king air cockpit and the real aircraft looks like it has some sort of linear bearing there too so I may do that
Thanks for taking the time to do a video
@@FlightSimJammer I’m struggling to find something to be that coupler. Any advice on what to search for (I’m in the USA)
@@expataviator7107 I got mine at park rose hardware, a little hardware store on the west coast. But Home Depot would have one it’s just a standard coupler.
What sim are you running? Love your review. Just received mine in the post
Awesome!! I run 2 different ones. I run X-plane 11 and will get 12 when its released. I use this one because it can be on multiple screens at once so I have my sim setup like you would really be looking out the window of the plane. I use MSFS 2020 when I am trying to learn the area around where I fly in real life. The real world look to me makes it a great tool. MSFS says they will be bringing out multiple screen capabilities as well. That will be amazing for sure. I love the feeling the Butt kicker gives for sure!!
@@FlightSimJammer are you using the simshaker software or just using it straight from the audio source
@@bunnyfoofoo27 I am currently just running it straight from the source. I have heard great things about sim shaker software and may look into setting that up as everyone says it makes a huge difference. I like that I can have the volume down and still "feel" the rumble of the plane and not annoy my family upstairs. Have a great day!!
Wow so lucky!!,!,!,
Nice video but you could do a lot more and it would be a lot cheaper just using Daytons BST-1 and a nobsound mini amp I myself used to use the butt kickers but switched years ago you get better tactical vibrations with the BST-1'S
I will have to check that out. I sure loved the difference going from nothing to the Buttkicker! Thanks for the reply!!!!!
Just lubricant the shaft and won't stick, a bit of olive oil on shaft, not going crazy with lubricant works a treat, any lubricant that does not eat plastic is fine. I put a thin coating of oil, a few drops and is as smooth as silk
Can I be your friend. Anyone with a Cessna cockpit in their room is my kind of person.
It was not easy to talk others into helping me fit it through the window. but It's amazing to wake up with my plane!!!
@@FlightSimJammer That's totally cray cray and I love it. I just got back into the sim thing about 9 months ago. My simmy symptoms remain less severe than yours.
Why do you fly with such a distorted view in MSFS2020, but in X Plane you use a much narrower field of view?
Microsoft 2020 does not support multi screens, so it is laid out different. I have not spent the time to work over msfs2020 as hopefully in the next few months they will release the multiple screen setup and I can then play around with it.
@@FlightSimJammer ah, ok. Makes sense. Yeah, I have both X Plane and MSFS 2020. I much prefer X Plane on my 5 screens compared to 1 screen on MSFS2020. It just feels like I am looking at the world through a tunnel. Not immersive. I don't forsee MSFS 2020 having multiple view support for quite a long time. The reason being that modern PCs struggle with rendering even 1 screen at decent framerate. I think 3 is impossible on current hardware.
@@ksp1278 very true!!! But one can hope. I like to use msfs2020 to learn my area from the air. I am not the best with just knowing where to go. So the realistic looks of msfs2020 is nice!!!!
Thank's for the tutorial. I need to extend my yoke too for integrate it thru my homecockpit MIP. Very helpfull video !
Glad I could help!! It’s super easy! And if you are careful it can be done without hurting the alpha invade you ever want to put it back together. The only thing I would do before putting the shaft in the yoke handle would be to put anti seize on the shaft as it was a tight fit and it locked in place. For me it does not matter as I don’t plan on removing it for my application.
Ah! 🙂
What about using voicemeeter audio application to separate?
I have not heard of that application but the FSX SOLO has the dual GA plugs so I can use my aviation headset in the sim and it works really good! the plugs are 1/4" and my computer only has 3.5mm plugs on it.
If this is new it seems a waste to lose the other features of it even though they arent positioned like most planes.
This is a brand new unit. Definitely not a waste as it’s I the dash of my Cessna 150 plane that’s in my room. It’s also 100 percent revisable so if I remove it I can put it back to stock and use it as it came. It’s actually helpful to have the switches as X-plane and mobiflight for some reason won’t work on the second avionics switch so I leave it flipped on the honeycomb behind the dash. Thank you for your comment and remember to land safely!!!!
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is a federal law in the USA enacted in 1975 and, among other things, states that your warranty may not be voided by opening and cleaning/repairing/hacking/modifying a product unless the manufacturer proves in court that what you did by opening/hacking/etc. your product is what caused it to need repair/replacement under the terms of the warranty. It is a violation of federal law to void your warranty for any product in the United States simply by opening it, unless opening it, doing things inside it actually broke it. Most companies rely on consumers not knowing about this, but if you threaten to sue them when they attempt to void your warranty and start making a public fuss over it, they will cave because it's cheaper for them to just repair or replace your product than it is to have you sue them and then they have a big legal hubub to deal with, even if you have shitty lawyers and they have great ones.
That is great information, I just want people to know before trying to take things apart they could run into issues. Thanks again and have a great day!
Fantastic
I have been working on building an altimeter gauge. It’s a bit more work but once I get it set up I will make a video on that gauge as we’ll. It will be the hardest of the gauges I think at least so far!
