ELT Panel Build For A Flight Simulator
Hello everyone, please join me in the making of another great simulator panel. I have been working on the sound quality of the videos so please let me know if this one is better.
The first part of the video is building the panel in Fusion 360, as well as exporting it as a STL file. Note you can get Fusion for free for personal use.
At 15:20 I show how to import your STL file into Prusa slicer and export it as a gcode.
At 17:18 The video goes to a timelapse on the new Artillery Sidewinder Pro X4.
At 18:12 We go to MobiFlight and I show you how to setup the switch and led to turn on and off.
Hope you guys enjoy this video. Please if you can, would you share this video with your friends who ma...

    Nice video. Good job there, "Jammer"! :D I like to build gauges for my sim for the flight simulator DCS World, but it seems that the software (for the Stepper motor "28BYJ-48" (with ULN2003 Driver Board) that you are using), "Mobi Flight" only support these games: "These are the simulators that we support MSFS2020, P3D, FSX, FS9 X-Plane 12, X-Plane 11,X-Plane 10, X-Plane 9". Is there someone who knows if I can use this for DCS? ; )

    Very helpful video, thanks very much! Ever since I saw the cable coil connection between the yoke and the base I wondered if this could be made into a detachable/swappable Yoke on an axle. It seems like it would only take removing a little bit of plastic to uncover the two key screws in your video, and that would make it swappable for different shapes/3D prints/wheels etc.

    • @diyflightsim4246

      You really could, there is a metal collar inside the yoke that holds it to the shaft and that is held to the yoke with a couple screws as you said. It would not take a lot of work to do really.

    I made a couple of mods that seem to work well. First, I used one of the two springs that were originally for the pitch and used it for the roll. This was done by snipping each end of the spring just past the curl at the end, and then bending it back over again to make the spring just a bit shorter. Doing this to both ends makes it just the right length that you can install it across the top two tabs of the roll controls in the yoke. Second, I used hair ties instead of rubber bands. I also greased the shaft with a multi-purpose synthetic grease. I came across this video while looking for instructions on how to disassemble so I could investigate the 'sticky' yoke problem. Thanks for the solution.

      Awesome!! I run 2 different ones. I run X-plane 11 and will get 12 when its released. I use this one because it can be on multiple screens at once so I have my sim setup like you would really be looking out the window of the plane. I use MSFS 2020 when I am trying to learn the area around where I fly in real life. The real world look to me makes it a great tool. MSFS says they will be bringing out multiple screen capabilities as well. That will be amazing for sure. I love the feeling the Butt kicker gives for sure!!

    The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is a federal law in the USA enacted in 1975 and, among other things, states that your warranty may not be voided by opening and cleaning/repairing/hacking/modifying a product unless the manufacturer proves in court that what you did by opening/hacking/etc. your product is what caused it to need repair/replacement under the terms of the warranty. It is a violation of federal law to void your warranty for any product in the United States simply by opening it, unless opening it, doing things inside it actually broke it. Most companies rely on consumers not knowing about this, but if you threaten to sue them when they attempt to void your warranty and start making a public fuss over it, they will cave because it's cheaper for them to just repair or replace your product than it is to have you sue them and then they have a big legal hubub to deal with, even if you have shitty lawyers and they have great ones.

    Pilots of real aircraft almost never use two hands on a yoke and typically that one hand uses only two or three fingers most of the time. If a sim yoke is such that it requires the use of both hands to operate well, then it's not such a good yoke. When I was learning how to fly, the instructor almost beat me up for putting both hands on the yoke! LOL

    • @diyflightsim4246
      @diyflightsim4246 3 года назад

      I definitely use one hand to fly most of the time. One had on the throttle and one on the yoke. But when I first started with this sim I had not started flight training yet. This one is smooth enough to use with one hand.

      @@diyflightsim4246 A friend got this yoke the other day and after trying it for myself, I have to say that it feels fantastic to the touch and movement of the controls is pretty smooth. I was planning to get one for myself, but after I felt the ridiculous amount of tension in the springs (or whatever they use) in the elevator axis, I would say that it was a deal breaker for me. If there was an easy and reliable way to lessen some of that tension, I might reconsider, but my current CH Products yoke performs more satisfyingly to me than Honeycomb because I found the secret to making it feel super smooth a long time ago. The secret is to lubricate the shaft with automotive STP Oil Treatment. NO OTHER LUBRICANT WORKS ANYWHERE NEAR AS WELL!!! The difference with the lubricant is like night and day and though having a CH yoke doesn't get me an ego trip, it does feel like I have an ace up my sleeve that I only wish more people knew about. No, I don't have 180 degrees, only 90 degrees of throw in the aileron axis, but going between real aircraft and the sim, I can't say that I ever noticed this as any kind of inconvenience or shortcoming. Aside from that, my humble CH yoke has a throttle, mixture, prop pitch, landing gear and flap controls already built in and though they might not be an accurate representation in the cockpit, they do work and allow me to fly the sim in a respectable fashion until I decide which add on throttle quadrant is most suitable for my purposes. Using F2 and F3 on the keyboard just doesn't cut it as I had to do with my friend's setup.

    • @diyflightsim4246
      @diyflightsim4246 3 года назад

      That good to hear! I personally don’t care about name brand but rather works best. The insides on the honeycomb use a bungee system which is what gives it the smooth feeling. I definitely see where you are coming from as in the real plane there is a lot of feedback needed when using the flaps or trying to get the stalls going but most of the time just light movements will change things a lot. At least in the 150-172’s that I have been flying. For others that have the ch yoke can you tell us is you take it apart to use the oil of just on the part of the yoke shaft that sticks out. That might be a good video you could do. Or if someone wants to send me a ch yoke I would be happy to do this video and also I would install it I. The sim and try it out and give my honest feedback. I think the next time up I will try and pay attention to my steep turns (45-50 degrees) and see how far the yoke turns in the plane. Thanks for taking the time to give us more info!!!!

      @airste172 3 года назад

      @@diyflightsim4246 The great thing about the CH fix is that there's no disassembly, just smear a nice coat of STP with a cotton swab on both ends of the shaft, wiggle it back and forth to saturate the bearings and enjoy a completely different experience compared to the way it came out of the box!!! From my experience, this simple little procedure makes the CH yoke feel like it's worth at least twice the price that it sells for.
