    Gotta love Eric. What he did with Cream opened the umbrella for Zeppelin, Hendrix and Sabbath to build the sound of modern rock and Metal. And he masters the Johnson's double tempo like he wrote it.

    Every single Clapton video is so full of comments people trashing a guy who's: a.) a phenomenal guitarist, b.) passionate for the blues, c.) played with the legends you all claim he steals from. Man, you guys got some serious issues.

    • @sagecreekwitt3301
      @sagecreekwitt3301 9 лет назад +13

      Gibson, I agree with your comment! To try and diminish one musician because others are under appreciated is a juvenile approach. Eric Clapton has always diverted praise away from himself towards the original bluesmen. Others can play faster, others can slide better, write better, strum better etc... but the person alive today, who has done the most for the blues, and rock, who's guitar skills are only matched by his charitable skills. . is Clapton. He rightly deserves the praise he receives.

      +Gibson Blues Dude, I am CONVINCED he gets trashed so much because people know full well he is the greatest guitarist that ever lived. I have never EVER seen any other guitarist come close to playing just the perfect notes or solos for different songs. his phrasing is also incredible. he can play lightning fast or tortoise slow and it will still be the most perfect emotional playing. listen to Holy mother from war child with Paverotti in 96 I think, he also did one in 2002 but the 96 version is better, and listen to the song by Sheryl crow called Ordinary morning, jesus christ the feeling the emotion the playing everything. BB King said no one can touch him on guitar. and there is nothing that highlights what I am talking about more than,such a funny video with BB King and Clapton and Albert Collins and Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy, called Sweet Little Angel, where Bb asks them all to play a lick they all play something and when it comes to Clapton he plays this Bend release couple of notes that are just from heaven. such feeling and emotion so in tune. But anyways BB after says to Him, " I believe you're a little greedy Son" pahahaha!! Classic BB :) Or listen to the heavy stuff he was playing in his teens while with John Mayall, Listen to Steppin out, One of his best, and there is a very long vibrato that lasts forever in the first 30 seconds, its just unreal, how a teenage can think to play those kind of notes. Play steppin Out full Blast sit back and Just BOW DOWN!!

    Raucous, vibrant, at times sounds like two guys playing at once, and so vocally evocative as to put the hackles up on my neck. They say you shouldn't meet your heros, but I'd love to have a jam with Eric. For about the next twenty years.
    I am shocked at how much some people can hate this man, at an almost cellular level, when everything I have heard so many people attest to his generosity of spirit, and genuine concern for the welfare of others, not to mention his epic talent.

    @mcfarmland Oe G:
    1st string: down to D
    2nd string: B
    3rd String: G
    4th string: D
    5th string: down to G
    6th string: down to D
    Derived from banjo tuning and commonly used
    by slide players. 'open tuning' is essentially tuning
    the guitar to a chord. Other common open tunings are:
    open E, open D, open A and open C. There are
    plenty of online forums devoted to slide playing.

    the performance Same Old Blues (original Claton song) in the concert for Monserrat or the powerfull and perfect (if slighly over80's sounding) version of White room in the albun 24 Nights, his guitar work on While my guitar gently weeps by the Beatles... I don't care if it's pure blues, he's in the rock and roll history for a reason (well a number of them).

    This song is played in open A tuning. Robert Johnson played this ong as long with a slew of other in open A tuning. If any of you have ever played in different tunings, most especially if you only have one guitar, you try and play, or create them all in one tuning. Clapton was really big on reproducing the sounds Robert had. Which are a lot easier than some think. If you notice you can hear that bit of bass from striking the low strings in the middle of nowhere.

    @Skeneyedcockeykent Johnson devoted his life to one style though, and became the master of one genre. Clapton has obviously spent years deviating off into rock, psychedelic music, pop and even reggae, and the fact that he can even match Johnson here (just about?) proves he is the master of many unrelated genres.

    Yeah that's right. What I do is tune to open G
    and then use a capo on the second fret for this song
    and then you can remove the capo for when you want to
    play things like 'Walking Blues' and so on. Open G is what
    Keith Richards of The Stones uses for most of his famour sriffs (he takes it a step further by removign the bottom string altogether!)

    @timmy47 Yep. Howlin' Wolf hit the nail on the head: roughly, "You got the blues. You know why? Because you're thinkin' evil". Thinking evil is a sufficient condition for having the blues, and ethnicity is not a necessary condition, nor is it sufficient. Perhaps we are aware of more black people who expressed the hellacious trials they were put through through song, but that does not mean that they are the only ones capable of having the blues. Much like any style of music.

    Its Open G or A a.k.a Spanish Tunning wich means a 515135 (DGdgbd) string configuration.
    Open Dor E a.k.a Vestapol is a 151351 (DAdf#ad) string configuration.
    He's playing the riff's on the bottom two/three strings in this video and is using the 5th (low G) string as a rootnote so its open G. If it was D he would have played the rifs one string string up and used the 6th (low D) string as rootnote.

  • @Mario88881000

    I don't think that whites should apologize to blacks for past slavery, discrimination, etc. Anymore than Spanish for invading the Americas.Those things happened in the past, you nor I weren't there. The history of humankind is full of horrible and beautiful things. It made us what we are. This beautiful music was born of human suffering. Instead of apologizing for things our ancestors did to each other we should learn from them and try to be better so our children will build a better world.

    Read his biography, for what he said, a LONG TIME ago. Do you believe NO-ONE can CHANGE inside? Eric has recorded with musicians of all races over DECADES, and none have called him racist. Ask Nathan East or Greg Phillanges if he is racist! He created the Crossroads centre in Antigua, where he charges the rich for rehab, but frequently treats skint locals completely free-of-charge, who get as much care as movie-stars and rock-legends. Eric gives PLENTY back, and has done for years.

    @laurencej81 Open A (E-A-E-A-C#-E) It's not really recommended for acoustics unless using very light gauge strings or a guitar thats setup for it. It's easier to tune to Open G ( D-G-D-G-B-D) and use a capo at the second fret to play along with Clapton or Robert Johnson if you have tabs. Open A and Open G have the same fingerings.
