The Swarmlord is a hasty cut. 25:20 He gets the counters for commander casts, doesn't specify he has to be the commander. If you've played Zaxara, the Exemplary, you'll know your commander will be recast a lot. As a late game cast he's still likely to show up as a 9/9 or larger with a decent little second effect that's on theme. But you'll literally never see it as a 5/5. Also, Iridescent Hornbeetle is a really good card to throw in, at the end of your turn, you create a 1/1 insect for EACH counter you added to any of your creatures. big swarm strats with X spell copy shenanigans
Swarmlord is decent board wipe insurance. In my playgroups boardwipes are pretty prevelant. Refilling your hand after getting blown out is a nice upside. That being said, it's not great in the 99.
@@flibblemunch I'm pretty new to magic but doesn't a board wiped happen simultaneous to all creates so swarmlords ability would trigger if everything is getting wiped at the same time. It's no like u can pick the order in which things die
@@CalebKND so when a wipe kills everything, everything is still on the field when it dies, so a card that does death triggers will activate because it was on the field when it happened
I feel like focusing on x spells with a sub theme of counters is gonna be the move for this deck. Which I hope you focus on for the 300 dollar build, cause there are some decent cards that make x cost spells pop off like unbound flourishing, playing temur gives us access to lots of mana and gruul gives us counter protection to ez win con with crackle with power.
There are definitely a lot of awesome things you can do with this precon. I really like Magus Lucea Kane, totally going to be who I have helm the deck. I think that because the decks are 100% new art I may consider leaving it as is. That said I really liked this look into how one would go about upgrading it.
really good video and upgrades, I love how time was spent telling why each individual card was added and cut, including the Swarmlord himself, definitely convinced me to take my deck in a different direction.
Animist's Awakening is just a great card for this deck all around. You either play it early game to ramp or you play it late game to remove the lands from your deck so you are more likely to get the draws you need.
Fantastic video, thank you. Ive never like counter decks but as a tyranid player i had to try this, thanks for showing me how to make this fun. One issue; genesis hydra cant cast X spells from its effect so alot of things you hit would be wasted?
You only need 4 mana including Magus Lucea Kane for walking ballista because you can remove one counter from one of the 2/2s to ping the other 2/2 and start the chain. You don't have to make them 3/3s first.
The 2 other cards i would think to add to this deck would be Finale of revelation and Finale of devastation, a great combination with this deck and more win conditions, but would take the addons to around $150
i thinks Kiora the planes is too easy to kill her,i have create this deck but i have remove Kiora for add : Pemmin's Aura. I think it is very good for infinite mana maybe and untap the commander. Thank you for the upgrade i like very very good this deck

Crackle with Power is a really good card…stick around for the $300 upgrade!
Sad to see the swarmlord cut, but it's fair. It just doesn't do enough, much like it's 40k counterpart in several editions.

thoughts on cards like neverwinter hydra, light up the night or magma pummeler? and would animar reduce both x costs in neverwinter hydra?
A lot of the Hydras are great includes into the deck!

I feel like Magnus Lucea Kane fits much better into the Tyranids theme, since they always attack in mass and she doubles your spells.

Funny enough, even if you dont use Kane’s mana to cast a spell, you still get to copy the next x spell you cast!
