Russian troops get Avangard hypersonic missiles with blinding speed of 6.8 kilometers per second

- The Avangard is a nuclear-capable, hypersonic boost-glide vehicle developed by Russia. The boost-glide vehicle is capable of flying at over 20 times the speed of sound. Maneuverability makes Avangard trajectory unpredictable, complicating intercept attempts. The Avangard missile has a range of over 6,000 KM and weighs approximately 2,000 KG. Hypersonic weapons travel 5 times faster than the speed of sound (beyond Mach 5). Conventional weapons have predictable paths; Hypersonics maneuver more in flight. Hypersonics rob adversaries of reaction time and traditional defeat mechanisms.

Russia held back quite a bit of it's best equipment and most of its best troops, probably because they expected a direct involvement of NATO or the US.
Looks like they are now ready to also deploy their more modern weapons.

Yesterday I also saw footage of the new Armata tank which was supposedly on it's way to Ukraine.
Probably all in preparation of a major Russian offensive which will start as soon as the ground is hardening.
The readiness test of the Sarmat is probably also a warning to the west. This monster can carry 10 to 16 war heads, including the Avangard missiles.
With a nuclear payload it can destroy an area the size of the total surface of France.
With a conventional payload it's probably still sufficient to take out a complete city the size of Kyiv.

It's also indicative that he said that it WAS (notice the past tense) not Russia's intention to destroy Ukraine.
It's not specifically the Armata which is going to make a difference, but the fact that Russia is now stepping back from the SMO approach and is going to fight this conflict as a real war.

No, it travels faster than that. 5x the speed of sound is what's necessary to be considered hypersonic. Could be Mach 5.1 or Mach 9000, it's hypersonic.
