I had Sid and Bossman, I think they were the only ones we could find. I saved this for Christmas Day afternoon. My marriage ended this year and its my first Christmas alone. So I've got a couple of tasty beers, put my feet up and enjoyed this. Thanks for all the entertainment this year gents. Cheers!
Stefanie maybe the greatest guest from the pod. Quality info here!
Agreed
I could literally see Broski's Chubbski when Stephanie said she sold her original Boss Man drawing and he realizes she may be open to negotiation 😂😂😂
I think you mean Matt Cardona’s *long island* 😏
@@MrSkerpentine 😂😂😂clever, I like it
Stefanie was a tremendous guest. Great look inside the industry and she seems like an incredibly nice lady.
She's honestly almost too selfless for the "billion dollar brat" title fans have given her. She's so giving and caring for others, especially children.
The "self made" line in her song is speaking for her true self. She started Connors Cure and the Susan G. Komen partnership. Not to mention the women's revolution had a lot to do with Stephanie speaking out against her father as well.👌 People just choose to overlook those things.
@@MrZombieTurds Uhhh, John was talking about Stefanie Eskander. She designed and created the artwork that appears on the Tonka WWF wrestling buddies, and she was a guest in the very video you're commenting on.
She needs to be in the Hall Of Fame!!
She literally turned a toy concept that kids would cuddle with to one that kids can have a wrestling match with. She deserved more credits for making a revolution on the toy industry.
I would love to see a complete history of the Bone Crunching Action Figures. Great Episode. I had Ultimate Warrior as a kid.
Please do this,
They will next Christmas
Another flat out masterpiece guys. It's like you created something that every kid born from 1980 - 1990 always wanted but had to wait for. A forum to discuss what we all talked about at school or sleepovers or baseball practice, etc. Bravo!
I can remember having The Warrior one when i was younger. Being from and growing up in the UK, i cant remember them being on the shelves as much as the Hasbros were at the time.
I have since found Wrestling Buddies at car boot sales/flee markets, a Hogan one this summer just gone and paid £2 for him. So i was vey very happy with that find. The value of these are really quite expensive on Ebay, espcially brand new in box..!
Yeah,I dropped some coin on a hulk hogan in mint condition out of the box.
The creative minds like Stefanie defined a generation with the toys they designed. The greatest time to be a kid.
Was having a very bad dark day. Major podcast helped today. Thanks guys
Its crazy how yall talk about getting all this stuff for Christmas etc. As a kid all I remember is growing up poor and never getting any of the cool toys I asked for. Which is why I buy and collect so many toys now.
Home Alone, Home Alone 2 Lost in New York , Major Pod Complete Histories Christmas Classics!!! Getting into the spirit over here in style. Thank you gentlemen. Happy Holidays to all and to all a Major Night!
I love these deep dives you guys do. And then the insight from Stefanie was amazing.
they ripped this video off from another dude who did this exact same video. It's sad
@@foch41 They didn't rip it off. It was totally different. I should know. Honestly, how much different should it have been?
I remember being 7 years old and my father taking me to toys R us after I went to the optometrist to get glasses lol I picked out my wrestling buddy and I chose the big boss man. I played with that thing all the time. I still have it to this day.
Amazing!
I still remember the night I got mine. It was just a normal night. My dad worked the afternoon shift at Con Edison in NYC. He’d get home around 11pm every night way past my bedtime. So one night I hear him come home as I’m half a sleep. He convinced my mom to wake me up real quick. I go downstairs and there he is with Macho King Randy Savage. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t my birthday or anything. He was a big wrestling fan so I guess he heard about these and wanted me to have one. I still have it to this very day. Ohhhh yeahhhh!!!!
The WCW buddies prove Stefanie's point. She said that because the body shape of the buddies is so cartoony, it's fitting that the facial features be cartoony as well. The WCW buddies have realistic facial features, and it just looks wrong.
Yeah they are so different and wwe ones win
I only had Warrior, but I absolutely loved it and would pretend he was multiple wrestlers. In my proudest moment as a kid, I used him as Undertaker ("What up, Dead!?") and created his nemesis, The Executioner. And this was years before Terry Gordy became The Executioner. My grandma, who was a huge wrestling fan herself along with my grandpa, even made me an executioner's mask to play with. I created a finisher for him called "the guillotine" (not to be confused with the guillotine choke) where I would lift him up in a big left hand choke, then let go and hit him with a clothesline while he was still in the air that would make him flip. I remember being extremely disappointed by Gordy's goofy Executioner gimmick when he finally came around, and my grandma and grandpa would always talk about my version coming first. They got a huge kick out of that.
Absolute sweetheart. Great interview. Merry Christmas!
This is what RUclips is all about…something is niche as “wrestling buddies” has this many people who care!! Awesome job guys !!👍🙏
I remember having Jake the snake when I was a kid, I sold more ddts then I can count. Good times
Love these deep dives. My favorite episodes you guys do. I was born in 1988 so definitely remember these wrestling buddies. I also remember the versions WCW made in the 90s. Great stuff all around here!
I was 9 when these came out and I was “too old for pillow pals” but come Christmas 91, run to the Christmas tree and see the LOD unwrapped, sitting there in the box and I lose my mind and go crazy with them. Wish I still had them.
I know what u mean, my hogan got thrown away in the nineties so I managed to grab one late last yr #memories
I enjoyed this immensely! I woke up Christmas morning in 1990 when I was 10 years old to a DiBiase and Warrior Buddies. Plus. The Hasbro ring and multiple figures. It will always go down as the best Christmas of my youth. Great video guys. Thanks for the nostalgia
This episode get's five stars
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Retro gaming hippie approves! Amazing production! The various insights on the toys was great and what a special guest!
Never had them as a kid, but have added all but 2 in my collection. They make great camping/car pillows and are amazing.
Thank you for these Stefanie!
That interview with Stephanie was simply amazing. So cool how those Body Slam Wrestlers came full circle ahaha
What an absolutely fantastic interview. Kudos.
My older brother had gotten them at some point, he had the whole set of WWF series 1 and 2. They became my hand me downs, I was born in 89, so I remember these as far back as I can remember. I had amazing wrestling matches. We also had that Ric Flair, but no other ones from that WCW set. I used that Flair as an HBK growing up.
Awesome episode and Stef is fantastic...
One of the best videos yet! Right up there with the 4-hour complete history of Hasbros and the LJN episode with Conrad. Stefanie is amazing, and her book sounds like it'll be a great read! I got a year or two on you guys, but these episodes hit me right in the childhood!
And at 38, I still collect! Hahaha. Loooooove these Complete History episodes, keep 'em coming!
I had Hogan and Warrior and they were great. I remember dropping the elbow off my fireplace on them and it was awesome, thanks for the great episode guys, as always keep it up. Everyone on this episode was a great listen, have a Merry Christmas everyone!
Next year- history of Remco awa?
i would have picked Jake the snake roberts to be part of series one. One of the most under rated wrestlers by fans. Amazing on the mic, great technical moves, in my opinion one of the best wrestlers there has ever put on a pair of boots.
Stephanie was great! Amazing video! Can’t remember if I commented before so I’ll comment again
You guys really kick ass for the interview in this. Stef apparently designed a lot of childhood memories and killed it. Awesome insight.
they ripped this video off from another dude who did this exact same video. It's sad
Its 1 thing to hear about this mentioned on the podcast, but its another thing altogether for it to be here!!🤘🏽
This was such an amazing episode!! So much cool information and so many fond memories!!!
they ripped this video off from another dude who did this exact same video. It's sad
That Sting Wrestling Champ's face is horrifying. It looks like a meme. Thanks so much for this episode!
this discussion with the creator of the Buddies is very good
I had the WcW DDP and I wore that buddy out. I had so much fun wrestling that thing and having him give me diamond cutters. Absolutely wonderful times.
Same, my great grandmother got me ddp Hollywood hogan and macho man, I used to have tag team matches all day with them lol
Damn these bring me back, my first buddies were hollywood hogan, ddp, and macho man. My great grandmother bought me them for Christmas
Back in 1993, I was 19 and started a job working for the Toys R Us store on Route 17 in Paramus, NJ. There was a door in the back of the building that led to a separate section of the business that TRU used for designing aisles and display planograms for all of the stores in the chain. A co-worker I had there had already been there a few years when I started and he told me that they also used that part of the building as a studio to film commercials, primarily for WWE toys and that the Wrestling Buddies ads specifically had been filmed there just a few years prior. I don't know for certain if this claim is true but it does make sense since Danny Tamberelli of The Adventures of Pete & Pete appears in at least one of the ads and he was from nearby Wyckoff, NJ.
This is really interesting to me for a couple of reasons... one, of course is the Wrestling Buddies connection, and the other is that just a few years ago (2012-2015) I was working at TRU Corporate in Wayne,NJ, and we had a setup just like you described right in our headquarters. An almost full-sized TRU store that was used for planograms, display and planning purposes. I often wondered what they used before the one we had was built. Very cool!
@@Toys4Stef Happy to fill in that part of TRU history for you! Since my initial post, I checked with the former co-worker I spoke of and he confirmed that TRU did in fact use the next door unit at the Route 17 Paramus store for both store planning AND TV commercials for lines like Barbie and WWF and he still claims that the Wrestling Buddies ads were filmed in that store.
@@NJZombie Thanks John, that makes total sense. Hasbro's ad agency at that time was Griffin-Bacal, and they were located in NYC. So, it's logical that they would use the Paramus facility to shoot the commercial. Great info!
One of my two little dogs suddenly passed away right before Christmas, so this is a great video anyway but has been a great distraction in coping with his passing n thinking back to childhood Christmas memories.
😔
AJ WF Hey, we obviously don't know each other but I hope you're doing well dude!
@@DyingIinyourarms I can’t complain broski, stil locked down here! Hope your doing better!
If it’s any relief I just unboxed a Darby figure that’s epic lol
AJ WF Honestly I'm still heartbroken over the loss but I don't wanna be a downer. I don't even collect figures or anything tbh I just listened from the start cz I like the guys but love the pod n sometimes I get this OCD feeling like I need to get these figures n fr I don't collect anything. The pod is a bad influence, my OCD wants all the AEW figures but I don't collect anything. I've watched Darby for yrs it's cool to see how far he's come. I just watched your unboxing video n will give you a sub!
@@DyingIinyourarms I’m
Sure it will get easier!! Stay strong, I appreciate anyone looking at my video lol.
At least with RUclips you can admire the figures even if you don’t collect full on
Had a blast watching this. So many memories flooded in my brain from seeing the original wrestling buddies. I had hogan and warrior and me and my brother would wear those things out. On a side note I think I almost crapped myself when I saw the wwf wrestling sheets hanging in the background in broski’s toy room. I got goosebumps when I saw that. Amazing. I hadn’t seen that in almost 30 years. Good stuff guys.
Made my day watching this. Well done
Great episode guys! I wish the other series were made because that undertaker would be awesome
Great review on these. I got the chance to meet Ted Dibiase in early March at a signing outside Chicago right before the pandemic shutdown . It was awesome and got him to sign my wrestling buddy of him there. He was really nice. I told him I first saw him at the 2nd Royal Rumble in Houston at the Summit in 89' when I was 7 years old. 39 now and miss the "cartoon era." All the ones you show are in awesome shape. I'm always on the hunt for mint condition buddies.
Well, that lady needs to worry not...🚫 I indeed cuddled with The Hulkster after serving him and Warrior with a brawling rowdy ruckus in the living room...🤘🏼💯✔️ Interesting to hear from her about the hustle and bustle of getting them off the ground from conception, and the back and forth and everything it took all before pre-internet...👌🏼
Stefanie is awesome! She just informed me today that my hulk Hogan. Is actually a rarity and one of the first ones produced
I used to wrestle these things in my grandmas living room when I was little, I remember I got my Million Dollar man autographed at a house show, he was outside eating Pizza and offered me a slice and to the day that is an amazing moment in my childhood, he was a heel too and I remember my grandma saying “ He has Millions of dollars and is eating Pizza Hut?” She went to her grave believing wrestling was total 100% legit, I miss ordering POV at her house where you had to go to the cable company to pick up the box to watch it and then you return the box.
P
AWESOME VID!!! Wish ya would continue some "Merch Madness" episodes.
so i guess these are my new yearly tradition before letting santa in when the kid goes to sleep... i like it.
My favorite series 1 is Ultimate Warrior... He was my favorite wrestler when i was a kid and still my favorite of all time. It's nice that they chose the green color for Ted Dibiase instead of the black one. Finally, i believe that Macho Man could have more colors on it, he was more colorful in 1990-1991.
That Hogan doll went into business for himself.
Been waiting for this since last Christmas!
I love that the green in The Warrior buddy at the beginning keyed out. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals!
Man that Titan tron voice in the beginning takes me back. I had that n a ring that i customized n made my own arena with backstage n it took up 2/3rds of my room n would record shows with my vid camera lol.
Man I loved playing with my WCW Macho Man. I still have it and will absolutely try the pillowcase trick! Awesome video, thank you for the holiday hustlin!
As soon as she mentioned drawings, prototypes etc... You could almost see broski thinking how much to offer
I remember watching the wrestling buddies commercial and on the look who's talking 2 I got super hyped when I finally got the original four for Christmas I spent months looking for ring ropes for my bed but they didn't exist.
I don't collect anything really and was too old for these, but man was I jealous that they weren't available when I was of pillow wrestling age. Great video.
My favourite channel on RUclips, Matt Cardona and Brian Myers are the best! Big fan since the Edgehead days 😃
Hawk's hair did connect back then. Tonka got it right
I remember my friend had one, and I would put the Figure Four on it.
I was today years old when I learned what that outro was from.
😜
46:05 I fuckin love Matt, he pops at the thought of a Tugboat wrestling buddy 😆😆😆
I used to play with the warrior buddy all the time
Man this was so good this episode (although I wasn’t even born when they where out and have no affiliation to wrestling buddies) is probably my favorite episode so interesting so happy I got the major buddies .
they ripped this video off from another dude who did this exact same video. It's sad
@@foch41 you do realise this is a series they do every year they done it with figures in the past also they advertised those for months no when did the other guy release his video
I still have my OG Macho King. Good tip on how to clean it
Knocked out some of my teeth from overselling for Million Dollar Man. Fell right back into the coffee table.
I always wondered why they were so small. There should have been a 2 up version available
That commercial made me think you could buy a wrestling ring bed
These was the must have toy for EVERY 6 to 14 year old wrestling fan in the 90s
They don't mention it, but I remember that there were sort of mini buddies at Burger King around 2010. There were only 3 that I can remember. John Cena, Undertaker, and Triple H. I only had the Cena and Taker ones. If you hit them they would play a segment of their entrance music. Pretty random piece from my childhood that I remember.
Loved these as a kid. My younger brother had Big Boss Man and I had Ted DiBiase.
From 20:56-20:59 you can see a little light orb on the left side of the screen comes in along the side of the Zacks bookcase and disappears
I LOVED these! Still had a Sting one that we colored the face red with a sharpie until recently when my mom sold her house and she threw it out 🙃.
Watching these 3 Men mentally turn into boys is always fun.
WOW that SFT Soft Pillow Pal Ric Flair is straight outta Nostradamus's notebook...it's probably from '95 BUT that's HANDS DOWN the TNA era Ric Flair!!! Crazzzy!!!!
I watched this video so much and I love these buddies. I grew mainly a wwf/wwe fan but I honestly think the wcw bashing brawlers got me into wcw. I remember macho man and ddp definitely the ones I wrestled the most. I would always be Chris Jericho and hit the Lion sault on them. I think I had Sting, Goldberg, and hollywood hogan. I am starting my buddy collection again and plan on getting a bunch from all different lines.
Am from rhode Island. I seen these ppl doing the drawings and seeing them being done . I actually got to see that. Cool memories
Awesome video guys. Would love to see a history of the bend ems or BCA’s. Until then I’ll watch this one a million times like the Hasbro and LJN ones lol
Awesome intro 🤣 🎅 junior is laughing his a** off 😆
With all the toys you have, i was wondering when this would happen. My friend had Hogan and Warrior. We would play with those and i would bring over my WWF Wrestling Challenge board game. Good times in the 90s.
Awesome show guys a happy holidays Merry Christmas 😎👍
I actually have a signed Ultimate Warrior wrestling buddy
can I have it
How much
I had the Ultimate Warrior and Surfer Sting wrestling buddy lol. A friend of mine reminded me of them yesterday.
I also have the Undertaker buddy from toy snobs 1:43:27 those are SUPER rare, and I have it signed by the Undertaker himself, the only toy snobs Undertaker signed in the world
I LOVE these complete history videos ! Keep em coming (if you can :D )
Great video.
Thanks for the coupon code! I just ordered my Woken Matt Hardy buddy!
I never had this specific brand, but I did have a Rey Mysterio wrestling buddy! It was so fun when I was little
I wonder if anyone has customized any Wrestling Buddie?
That's my favorite WWF wrestler of all time Ultimate Warrior WcW Sting Legion of Doom Hawk and Animal Macho Man Randy Savage & Jake the Snake Roberts were my favs then when Bret Hart came around I was a fan also Bam Bam Bigelow Doing the Clown Razor Ramon etc....
I still have my buddies hogan and warrior from I was a kid and some of the toys still
Made a ring bed, not even close to what you'd think, got in trouble lol and yesterday, not as a youngster either. 😀
Such a cool episode these things we’re solid to get your hands on in England but I still have hulk warrior then sting and sid
I would of loved something like this when I was a kid, I grew up with RA, and I have vivid memories 5 Star Splashing pillows on my bed (ovi broke the bed), and a lesnar or benoit would of been perfect.
I think the biggest WWF boom came at the end of 1989 til The beginning of 1990 with Hogan /Warrior. It took off after that big time. Right when all these toys came out. Perfect timing
Matt’s heart pumps wrestling❤️
This is so badass Thank you guys for the amazing content
they ripped this video off from another dude who did this exact same video. It's sad
