Metal polish brands contain minute grits of abrasive in a paste form. The rubbing with an abrasive embedded paste on a cloth is expected to typically produce a dark residue, because the polishing compound removes the surface layer from metal.
That black stuff is silver oxide. Clean silver, and other metals like Aluminium, are protected by a micro-thin layer of oxide not usually visible to the eye. When you clean silver, you remove that oxide layer and the solvent you use reacts further with the silver to create more silver oxide - hence the black stain on the cloth.

Possibly. But, even though these have a denomination, they’re not really considered currency in the broadest sense of the word. Clearly, they’re worth more than 2 pounds! 😉
That dark mark on your microfiber cloth isn’t from dirt that came off the coin, it’s just the metal reacting with the polish. If you polish it again, you’d get the same black mark on your cloth again. 🔥🦈🌊
I have sold 3 monster boxes of maples back in May to 2 coin stores. They were 2011. 2013 & 2014. More than 1/2 were milk maids. Both dealers would only give me spot for the milkers. I learned no more pre 2018.

Britannias are investment bullion coins. If your that bothered by the odd milkspot take it off with a soft clean pencil eraser. The premiums eagles cost is a much bigger off putting factor for me. Britannias are an absolute bargain in the US. Never see poor edges on a britannia.
Thanks for checking out the vid! I’ve tried the eraser tactic. Didn’t work. And if I’m paying $5-7 over spot, I shouldn’t have to waste time cleaning an entire tube of Brits, IMO. Plenty of rough edges on the 23’s that I’ve seen, too. It’s hit or miss, really. Hopefully, the 24’s will be better?
