    I got sucked in to watching coin shows on tv and buying numerous MS69/70 silver coins plus low mintage coin sets (Disney, Godfather and other movie coins) anyway I went to a LCS to try and sell and they would only offer SPOT…which was a ripoff…so I got a friend to sell my collection on eBay and I was lucky to get 75% of my investment back - never again but as I say that all these collectible coins were absolutely beautiful! So now I keep it simple just bullion.

      So, okay that is the issue. Buying so called collectable coins off the Internet or TV will always be harder to sell in the short term, because the spot price has not increased to the level where you can sell what you bought it for which is Spot plus that high premium, the dealer on the net or TV was advertising then. It is not that the coin is not attractive, they ALL are attractive but those so called collective coins have a higher premium, which means it should be the last sold in your collection giving more time for the spot price to mover near the price you actually paid for it.

    It's been years but I put myself through school making silver jewelry. I bought a lot of silver from the LCS. Shot purchased from a jewelry supply company was too expensive but the LCS always had a bin of old sterling silverware and all those "investment" fine silver coins. I didn't care what they were, they were fine silver and sold for the lowest price of any other options as no matter what they originally sold for they had no value other than their silver content. And they could be alloyed down to sterling easy enough and it all cast the same. I've still got about 10 lbs of the stuff somewhere. I bought it after the Hunt brothers crashed the market in the early 80's when it was cheap. I'm retired now and thinking of setting up the workbench again, see if I can still do some silversmithing.

    I invested a bunch of my savings into silver and was eager to sell my coins when the price was high, but the local dealers were not interested in buying silver when the value was high. I could have mailed my coins to one of the major dealers, but the cost of mailing and insurance for the coins would have eaten up most of my profits. That proved to me that investing in silver or gold was a poor investment. What good is a pile of silver or gold when nobody is willing to buy it when the value rises? I'll find better ways to invest my money.

    At my LCS I could get gold at spot minus a couple of bucks for a few weeks. The reason is simply that over that time the guy had a client who was getting rid of his entire stack that he had been accumulating for almost 2 decades,. Some of these coins are absolutely gorgeous and the artistry would knock your socks off. The Royal Canadian Mint produces some of the finest silver and gold coins in the world and other pure metal coins too, but believe me, the type of commemorative coins bring in top dollar, but they’re only valuable to a collector, so if the collector wants a special coin that’s not in the market anymore, they have to seek out other dealers besides coin shops for these. Another outlook is during these financial times of breakdown and new people are turning in their life savings IRAs and 401Ks they only want US Mint coinage. Buying coins and slabbed items are a fool's game. Paying a premium over real market value is plain stupid. Unless you are in love with the "HOBBY" metals are not an investment. Awesome video and awesome advice for that sect of silver stackers. I personally don't stack to sell (god forbid). I stack to hold. Some day, me or maybe my grand kids won't be going to coin shops. The industries will be knocking on our doors to buy. Silver is a finite resource and the industries continue to buy up 50% of silver mined each year. With the increase of electric vehicles, microchips and solar panels, the conductivity of silver is crucial. Weight is weight. Buy what you like. You're holding the wealth of the progress of planet earth. The mines won't last forever.

    Currently shops in our city dealing with precious metals have told me they may purchase all silver sovereign and vintage prospectors eagles and Engelhard one ounce ,ten, fifty and 100 oz for 90 percent under spot !! The reason given was the refineries are backed up and can no longer deal with the quantities being dumped at thirty dollars per ounce
    They are not interested in rhodium palladium or platinum only gold. The Red Book is no longer considered reliable to judge relative value of vintage or sovereign coins and treated as melt

    • @LoveClassicMusic0205
      @LoveClassicMusic0205 2 месяца назад

      I had all of those metals in my stack except rhodium, and ended up selling everything which wasn't gold. I sort of regret selling palladium because it went through the roof in 2022 (but has come back down). I definitely don't regret selling my silver. I had several monster boxes of it and it was way too bulky to deal with. Fortunately I sold it in the early 2010s when the price was in the low $30 range. Now I'm only .9999 gold except for 10 Krugerrands. I even sold my American Eagles.

  • @QoraxAudio
    @QoraxAudio 2 месяца назад +1

    It's the same for larger gold bars, typical bullion dealers will buy those, but actual coin shops won't or are reluctant and offer way below spot...
    Those bars don't fit in with their product line, so they need to dump those bars at their wholesaler and will make very little profit on it despite having paid below post to the previous owner.

  • @Calendyr

    Of course painted coins will be more expensive. You have to take time and effort (and paint) to make them, there is a cost to that. As for an LCS paying less for them, that is a ripoff. It's still a silver eagle, and contains the same amount of silver. If you really don't like it, a bath in a solvent like acetone or paint thinner will remove the paint completelly. When it comes to collectables, it's all a matter of price. If the premium is too high, just skip them. If you can get for only a small premium over an other type of coin, it can be interesting if you like collecting, of if you want to take a small gamble on them getting higher priced later on. Some coins likes the Marvels series and plenty of others sell for 2 or 3 times the price of silver. Obviously, if you want to do that, you need to sell privately, not to an LCS that will give you spot for everything!

I haven't always done that, but looking back, I wish I had. Have too many odd ducks - like a Perth Swan or something like that - but I think they're still sellable.
