  • Granger Smith (@Grangersmith) sat down with Bobby Bones to talk about why he chose to get vulnerable and write about almost taking his own life, recalling the night it almost happened, and why he didn't tell his wife about it until the book came out. He also shares what he has learned from tragedy and the calling he had to shift his career from a country artist and do Ministry. Granger also explained why he drove to meet a fan to have coffee and talk with them, opens up about how he'd feel if he died tonight, what it's like to go from playing concerts to delivering sermons and more!

I've been listening to Bobby for about 10 years and when he said "if there weren't mics here, I don't think I could have this conversation" was probably the most honest thing I've heard from him in awhile.

For some reason at a point in my life I missed Granger and his music. I have now discovered his music really from a recent movie Moonrise. So exceptional and it caused me to google and learn more of Granger. I'm older but my daughter of 33 remembers many of his earlier songs. The Lord has truly blessed you; Granger. Life is a gift; we never know what we will face at any given moment or happen to our loved ones. You are using your life's walk to glorify God; to help others. Giving up your music; I understand. I do pray you will find it again even if in some way. You are so talented - your voice is exceptional. Bless your precious heart and Blessings to your beautiful family. Your story has blessed my life.

Totally agree with Granger. Intimate conversations, comforting people the way God comforts us is powerful. People matter. Mourn with those who mourn.

God bless this podcast so much. I can't express how much I appreciate this. If I could have my sister back, but also my old life. I'd have to deny. Because even though bad things happen God is good and he has a plan. Especially for my sisters children ❤

Bobby, in terms of doing and giving, please don't ever discount the joy you give to people with your radio show and your interviews. I can't begin to explain in this short space, how my life has been changed by what you do! In my spiritual teachers, one has said repeatedly, your greatest ability to give to others is by doing what you love! I don't know how you feel about what you do. I hope you love it. I certainly do! Many, many thanks. . .

Interesting question form Bobby about Granger being a music celebrity and if that will wear off in his new work. I never followed his music and really only know a couple of songs. To me I started watching him and family's RUclips channel and was instantly hooked for who they were, not from his music. Granger is a great man in my eyes and his wife Amber is an absolute rock star of a human.

You leave the 99 to minister to the one. To affect that life for a lifetime instead of 3 minutes at a time. That’s submission. That’s ultimately our calling ❤️

I do think some of what Granger talks about here is kind of weird. I cant fathom why a grieving parent would say that about their child thats passed, but im open to hear other peoples experiences. But grief is sometimes something that challenges our instincts, our natural order of things. Its literally a wave and you have to eventually be open to where it takes you. And youve gotta process as much as you can. Eventually there is a silver lining, and theres light & understanding & acceptance of emotions. And the memories flood in again & it can be a sweeter thing than just this God awful sting of sadness & shock. And you can think of the person you love with love, light & joy again in your heart. I love Granger Smith. I know hes a godly man. Gods healing doesnt always make sense. And loss does make you a better person bc of what it does to you. 🙏🏻✨

Based on the years I've watched their channel and knowing how strong their faith is, I believe he meant that he knows he will be with River again one day and that they have not only helped a lot of people's lives since his passing, but likely saved many lives from potential drownings, which is a huge part of River's legacy from his short time here on earth. Welcoming baby Maverick has been a huge blessing to their family as well. I'm definitely surprised he said what he said publicly but when your belief is that strong, I can certainly appreciate that too.

My cousin lost her daughter young…and she is very faithful & faith filled…everything he is saying is what I’ve experienced with her. Her faith is so strong & so is Granger’s…they both know they will see their little ones again. But in the meantime, they will always point people in the direction of the cross. 🤍

@@emm32emm32 stories like this always give me hope. 💜
I’ve experienced some loss but of course not to this magnitude. Its nice to see others grasping the full mesg of the Gospel & applying it to their hearts, their daily lives, etc. and the Mesg is this. That Christ came to die so that we could Live again. And in His death & resurrection, we can see, even in our suffering that there is restoration, life, hope and a harvest of good.

I don’t think he means that’s he’s grateful or glad it went this way I just think he means that he’s thankful for the change and the salvation that it has brought not only their entire family but all them lives that have changed from telling their story.

Long time fan of Granger and all of his work. I have to be honest; it seems he's a little bitter and disparaging how he speaks about music and his career these days. I understand the path he's taking 100% (huge respect for it) but there always seems to be a bit of a slight towards music and musicians as though it's all self-serving / aggrandizing. MANY musicians see what they do as a service to their followers. A way to provide some relief or escape from the "grind' if you will in live shows or audio media. I see no major difference in speaking or singing for the same cause. Music made the platform for the next chapter. I doubt he has ill will intended but many of the comments lean that way.
