- Crochet this simple tote using any version of granny squares and joining method! I used traditional granny squares and slip stitch as the joining method to make this handbag sized crochet tote.
A great yarn option would be Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton. This is an affiliate link: shrsl.com/49b0n
You can also find it on their website!
The materials used are size 4 yarn - About 250 yards
Crochet hook size I9
Yarn needle and scissors
You'll crochet 13 granny squares using any pattern. I have the tutorial for these squares posted as well! I'd love to have you subscribe and keep learning some fun crochet and knitting projects!
I’m sorry but the “I started them and never finished them because of who I am as a person “ sent me😂but honestly so relatable
I thought the same thing. I have so many unfinished projects. Why am I the way that I am? 😆

About how long did it take you to make it ?
@@sarangcrochets9583 3-4 days depends on the size and type of square u make
i made granny squares with a heart shaped center so I need to get the squares oriented in the same direction which will be more tricky for me. as a visual person, your instructions are very helpful.
I appreciate so much that you get to the dang point and thoroughly explain everything. Thank you for this!!
"...because of who I am as a person." SAME, friend
Thank you for this!!! Used it to make my bag (also my first ever attempt at crochet!) and it turned out great!!
I love the tote, I'm working on one now that's just square, but the next one is going to be like yours. Thanks for sharing

Thank you! I love your story of how the squares came to be. Totally relatable
Thank you so much for this! I been trying to find a decent tutorial on how to join the squares together for this specific bag shape. It’s my first time making a granny square torte bag and the sewing is tricky for me
Oh wow! So beautiful bag. I definitely make that bag for the summer ♥️
Just finished my bag, video was super helpful! Ty
Sadly I'm at school so I can't try this yet, but I really am excited! My great grandma had made me a cute little tote bag one time, and I want to return the favor! (Or try to, anyways :']) Can't wait to try this out!

U r so talented Mama...good job with this tutorial..so helpful
Thank you! I can’t wait to try this with some granny squares
Hiii!! I love thisss but it's it's a bit confusing here 11:44, where do u make the chains? Cuz there are 3 loops in the hole so idk if it's the 1st, middle or 3rd, please I hope u could help me out😅💕
I made this a month ago. Thanks for the tutorial. My favourite bag🥰(what’s better than a bag you made for yourself?)
Made this tote. Super easy. Thanks
Thanks for sharing, very great video tutorial.❤️❤️
A chain with single crochet for the handles makes them strong and sharp looking. However, it tires me because it is a little slow. So what I have chosen is the method that starts with three single crochet, horizontally, using three stitches of one peak of the bag and then make it grow with rows of three double crochet, joining at the end, at the other corresponding peak. It has a different texture but it looks good also, and it is strong too. When making the handles this way, the bag does not need to be moved back and forth for the start of each new row. Only the handle being made is switched sides back and forth.
Im using this to use up some leftover yarn its perfect for something patchwork
"I started them and never finished because of who I am as a person" ME TOO BESTIE, ME TOO 😭
Listen 😭
Currently using another bag and I’m using your method of sewing them together this time
Muy buen video
Hermoso tejido y buena combinación.
gracias por compartir.!!!
Since I have only one yarn so I will be making this and let's see how long it will take for me to complete
thank you for this tutorial! it was so useful for me to create my tote!
hey! amazing tutorial- thank you! was just wondering though, what size do the individual granny squares finish as? many thanks :)
It depends on the size of your yarn/hook/tension. If you're using the same yarn/brand the granny squares should be roughly the same size as the first one you make!
BLESS you for this tutorial.
Me: * also pulls out a bag full of colorful granny squares from 2 years ago*
how large should the granny squares be? can you tag your tutorial in the description?
So excited to get started let’s see how long 🤗
Thank you for showing us how to do that purse
Hola...
Me encanta esta súper

HI! how big is each square in cm? Thank you!
Tnx for this video, I made it and it’s great!!

I don't think i should be watching and trying to do this with my granny squares HAHA i might do it wrong!!! 😂 I'll come back tomorrow
She’s using a size 19 crocket hook for the granny squares? Also what size are they . Yep I’m a beginner .
I saw this on Pinterest and started on my sqyares as soon as I saw it 😅😅 cant wait to put them all together
Can i know the size of the bag and your granny squares?
Love this
Can I use dk yarn squares ? Ty x
The way I broke down the arrangement of the squares to make it easy for me to remembers is that I make two crosses, each with five squares, three squares horizontal, three vertical, sharing the second square in the middle. Then I rotate a little each to one side so the cross turns into an "X". I place them touching the two bottom ends of one with the two top inner ends of the other. Then I fill-in with a square in the open space at the joint in the middle, and add two squares at the top, under each top side square. The crosses or "X's" give me the inner arrangement and then it is easy to know where the other three filler squares go.
In the images shown in the video, the three final, filler squares are the two yellow ones at the top, and the blue one in the middle at the joint of the two "X's".
what yarn did you use for this bag?
How many grams of yarn? My country's yarn label didn't show as yard. Please help.
How many grams of the pink and how many grams of the grey did you use? I really love this design
How big are the granny squares you're using?
Could you tell me what size granny squares are used. Thanks
I remembered one of the tiktoks i saw for a bag like this. i went immediately to my playlist to search for it then decided i could probably find it if i just searched on yt. So i did and i clicked this video and i realised you kinda sound like how i remember the girl in the tiktok. and the pink and white bag you made, im not sure but i think that was in the tikotk too. and then at the end of the video you mentioned something about your tiktok, So im pretty sure that video was you lol.
i probably make no sense.
edit - just found that tiktok, it is you lol
hi! lovely bag! I want to ask how you hide the cut off yarn and knots when you connect everything together. When I connect things together, it seems super super messy and if I cut the yarn off too short then the knots will undo.
You can either weave the ends in or turn the bag inside out
Heyy how much yarn did u use?
Hey, I'm very confused when you fold the project in half on that blue square and slip stitch together the folded in edge squares. Do you slipstitch down the green squares and then go back up the same side to connect the yellow to the orange corner and red square or do you slip stitch down, cut and then restart at the yellow/green corner to go towards yellow/orange/red corner?
I have this same question and can’t find the answer anywhere it’s frustrating me so bad 😭
@@sophiavigil4397 slip stitch down, cut and restart!
if I want to line the inside of the bag, at what point do I do that? right before folding it over or after folding it and connecting the rest of the seams? also how do I line it?
Plenty of tutorials on lining the inside, I would suggest doing it after finishing the bag
What size are the squares?
Can I "beef up" by doing double crochet?
Thank you. That help a lot
Can you use different granny squares? Will it still turn out nice?!
100% yes!
What brand and color yarn did you use to make the granny squares. I would like to make it in the same color for my grand daughter.
Hi! I used I Love this Yarn from Hobby lobby but bought it years ago so I don't know the color. ☹️
Would acrylic yarn work as well?
Any yarn type works!
how many inches are the granny squares?
oml yes i had the exact same question!
Thank you!
I'm terrible at construction. I can crochet the things, but suck at putting the things together 😭
Can u please tall me the (order and numbers) if i want to do a big bag.
How many rounds to you do on each granny square?
Hi! I did 4 rounds on these grannies
@@GingerKnots is that enough to make the bag?
@Shookie1 Should be enough! If you want it more tote sized you could add more rounds.
@@GingerKnots thanks
I tried this method and my squares kinds caved in and the stitch kind of stayed along one side. I don’t know what I did wrong
What's the measurements for your granny squares?
شكرا جزيلا لكي 😶
I finally finished the 13 squares after 3 days and I can't crochet them together
I just made my bag too! I used an invisible seam to stitch them together because I couldn’t crochet them together :)
@@mariaa518 thx i figured it out in the end tho 😅
how many grams of yard u use?
Thank you so muchhh 🙏🙏🙏🥰
How did you start the side part of the bag 😭
THANK YOU SO MUCHHH!!!
Is there anyway to make a bigger version
If you add more rows to your granny square, it increases the size. So in conclusion, when you connect all the squares together, it creates a larger project or in this case, a bag. I would recommend doing about 8 rounds or 10 if you really want a large bag. 😊
Yes I like to do magic ring chain three, 2dc into the ring, chain 2, 3dc,chain 2, 3dc, chain 2 3dc, then chain 2, then slip stitch into the 3rd chain, then dc into each stitch until you reach the corner and that’s when you (dc2 chain2 dc2) and when you reach your chain three at the end you slip stitch. Then you repeat it until how many rounds you want to make it the size you want for you squares make sure they have the same amount of stitches around the sides
must the squares be granny squares????
I think as long as they are squares with chains around the sides then they should connect just fine and lay them out in the same way she did
Oops, definitely didn't crochet the top together when doing the single crochet border...
Hi, is there a different hook number. I have from 2.5m to 6.5m!?
@Lily Morgan thank you 😊
💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
How do I make it bigger?
I’d say the easiest way to go is to add rows to the granny squares.
@@ahtnamaSAugust thank you
How many rows of granny squares?
You can use any size, but it looks like she has 5 rows. Just keep in mind that the number of rows changes the size of the bag 😊
@@garythelifesquirrel3066 thank you for the reply and tip , appreciate it :)
@@layanaltaheri301 of course! I’m making the bag, so I had to figure it out. I’m glad I could help!
