I have to give tons of credit to Venus. The way she looks at her kid sister is just amazing. The love and support Venus has given to Serena has def helped her be successful in her career.
KID BROTHER YOU MEAN.
True.
It a guy lady.
@@adelec.9618 Then what are you? You are biologically stronger than her but I doubt you are
For everyone who is commenting saying Serena should have declined because she seems sad or didn’t wanna be there - consider being the greatest athlete of your sport and dedicating your entire life and existence at something and finally outwardly confessing that it’s all over. It’s not a happy subject to discuss, and she mentioned feeling sad about saying goodbye to tennis and how much she struggled with the decision to retire in general. Give her some grace for showing up and allowing us all the opportunity to hear her speak instead of walking away in silence!
Especially considering she basically admitted she doesn’t even truly want to retire, but she has to to expand her family.
Life's commencements can be emotional, but she had a good run even if not necessarily the goat.
She is not the greatest athlete in the sport. They would not even touch a candle to a male player.
@@BlessedBeJESUSCHRIST she’s not competing against the men…. She competes in womens tennis
And if you want to count the men, she has still won more slams than Novak Rafa and Roger.. more gold medals in two disciplines and has also won 14 slams in doubles. That body of work far surpasses anything the big 3 have done on the major stage.
At this point I’m just glad both of them are healthy, venturing on other things they love and of course playing a bit of tennis ❤️

Well said and amen!
Serena is now a baptized Jehovah's witness.
Decades of Greatness: Over 27 years, Serena Williams dominated generation after generation of opponents and changed the way women's tennis is played, winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles and cementing her reputation as the queen of comebacks - NYT 🎾🎾Serena the G.O.A.T! Serena will always be the GOAT. Once the Williams sisters leave tennis it will be decades before the U.S gets all those titles. Maybe then they will truly be appreciated for what they've done for U.S tennis. Thanks sisters. You've represented us well.
. . . in your opinion.
Margaret Court is the GOAT ! She has class too. Serena "The Bull" Williams is not in Margaret's league. Like Margaret said, she admires Serena, but she never admired her.

Only been to the US Open once. While everyone was following Kournikova and watching her on the practice court, Serena and Venus were playing a doubles match. I had a really great seat. It was awesome. Little kids were chasing them around, at every opportunity. And at one point, Venus said - NO!! And that just encouraged the little kids to do it even more. Little kids loved the Williams sisters. Course. At that time, Venus was the one, who had won a grand slam. Arthur Ashe stadium nose bleed seats are not why you go to the US Open. The smaller courts have the action. Wow. That was a long time ago.
Did u know kournikova velvet won a singles tournament!!!
Serena won a slam first, not Venus
@@connormcdonald6044 Kournikova never won a tournament but she was a genuine talent who squandered it. Her failings were mental, she had every shot in the book and was a great athlete, but couldn’t overcome her serve and mental fragility, not to mention that it just didn’t seem like she wanted it.
@Jo Ou thanks for sharing your great experience and memories.
You, the Williams sisters, were such an inspiration to all people of colour in South Africa, especially the women and young girls. We felt that every step and win was a win for us. Thank you. I look forward to your next journey.

Serena is truly the GOAT and it's the end of an era. It's sad for her and sadder for the fans, but I'm happy for her cause she'll tap into something new and thrive. When it's time to move on, it's time to move on.
No such thing as GOAT bc time has not ended yet.

Yes there is, Serena Williams is the GOAT of her era and the open era. Margaret Court is the GOAT of all eras with her 24 grand slams but she was the GOAT of her era too . Serena Williams is second on the list and Stephi Graff 3rd. Graff was a GOAT of her era as well.
Serena has already Broken records with the most Grand Slams in her Era. Margaret Court was playing Tennis when it was easier; congratulations to her still, but let's see her Win 24 Grand Slams Today.
Back then, they had drastically fewer resources. Respectfully, it was NOT easier.
Today's players benefit from previous generations' ground-breaking sacrifices.
I'm a bm and Margaret is the goat
I think Serena has reached that SAMPRAS moment.
Been there! Done that! Seen it all! Had enough! No more to give!
Life outside is more meaningful now.

I am still in awe to see Venus and Serena together in this interview as I was when they began their tennis careers years ago. They still exude such strength and beauty as African-American women. However, Serena seems sad when talking about retiring. Hmmm.
I agree. Seems a painful subject for her. Difficult juggling Motherhood. She did her best and did us proud. I'm forever grateful
These young ladies will always be the two cute little girls with braids and beads playing together in Compton, California. That's the only time that I saw them in person. I watched them grow up as my kids grew up. So proud of them ❣️
The William sisters have been blessed to have a dad like they that encouraged them to go after their dreams. If they did anyone can.
Love this interview!
Where can we watch the whole conversation with all 5 players?
Please don't mention Margaret Court in the same sentence as Serena. She was NEVER mentioned when Graf held the most slams in the Open Era. Court only started being mentioned when Serena passed Graf. It's so disingenuous and stupid. Court was playing in Aussie Open when it wasn't even the Aussie Open and nobody was actually playing the tourney. ALL tennis players agreed for years, including Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Chrissy Evert and so forth that Court's record was inflated and not representative of the sport. But, only when Serena threatened to overtake Graf did everyone started ignoring the facts. Get out of here. I turned this off as soon as I heard them mention Court's bullcrap record.

How many GS events did Court win under effects of PEDs ?!?

They both seem very guarded when it comes to interviews (more so Serena). Probably has to do with have they have been treated and scrutinized by the media. But I just love to see them together.

But seriously though Serena you have handled this tennis game with dignity and class. Have a great retirement you've earned it!!!!
Its absolutely incredible to see these two together. I grew up watching them and I am soo inspired by their lives and how they have lived a life of integrity and grace. Two beautiful women that I hope to meet one day.

Yupp, they are incredible
No matter what, it's going to be hard leaving, but she's putting in the hard work and is giving it her best. Pretty brave for a champion to put it all out there and knowing the possibility of losing first match. But it doesn't matter to the fans if she does. We'll know she's doing it for her and for us. Have to respect that.❤️
🇺🇸
They are not young anymore and they do look tired. I think maybe retiring for good isn't really a bad thing. Many players actually do enjoy life after tennis. Serena has a family to care for and Venus has 2 businesses that now she can finally put her full focus on and build her business up.
They're 40 and 41, respectively. They lasted 2 generations
40 is still pretty young but they want to to other things in life …. Be respectful!!!

She had a strong run even if not surpassing Court.

@@quentincrisp6933 I stand by my statement. Besides your so called goat/s are not relevant to this generation as opposed to the GOAT SERENA WILLIAMS. Also with all your so called goat/s accomplishments, they have not really done much for the sport as opposed to the GOAT SERENA. Have they broken down ethnic barriers and used their platform to highlight social issues? The answer is no . So basically without the William sisters (particularly Serena), tennis would have still been a white persons sport and social issues would have been ignored continually which would have caused irreparable damage to the sport. The William sisters revolutionized the sport. Just chew on that for thought.
