- This is a prologue demo of the game, "The Big Catch". I'm still impressed by the content the developers were able to show us. I've never been so impulsively drawn in by a game. I truly think this game will be amazing when fully released.

You know what this struck me as with regard to visual design? Klonoa.
Same, and the OST.
A very wahoo core game
Yess! I was about to say the same thing! The music took me straight back to being a kid playing DtP 😍😍 Very mid-90s SEGA core.
Have a look at Double Shake as well, upcoming game with inspirations seemingly from Klonoa and Tombi/Tomba.

Man I am so glad to see someone else blown away by this game. The full game must be enormous because this demo is huge! I have yet to find all of its secrets, what a delight
I can't wait for the full release. I can smell the developers cooking up a masterpiece! 😳
I'm having so much fun too and the music is so good. Only at ~300 coins, so almost halfway throught the 688 door(which I assume is the end for now, but I could be wrong and hope so 😂)
I thought I would be the only one to compare this game to Twilight Princess. The sound effects are even similar. I was in the same boat as you I found the demo on steam and now I'm obsessed with the idea of creativity returning to gaming.
Great minds think alike 😄
I was practically tearing up when transitioning from the tutorial area, sand surfing into the open world segment with the music kicking in. Can't wait for the full release, what a great nostalgia kick!
This part gave me goosebumps. Knowing you were about to start your adventure into the great unknown was an exhilarating feeling!
That tower is one of the biggest and most challenging areas of the game, I absolutely loved climbing it. There's a way to get to the roof if you keep trying, the view from the top is breathtaking!
I got to the top while streaming the game on Twitch. Truly an amazing view! 😌
@@BrightSaplingyou should upload a cut version of your stream. would love to see you play more
23:00 you skipped an entire 5th of this level doing this, bravo unironically, the speedrunners are gonna love that
So many people keep telling me this! This is awesome! 🤣
Were you not supposed to go that way? Felt like it was the only path forward.
@@Jenna_Talia there's a long poll extending horizontally towards you down that corridor, you were supposed to use the hook point to launch yourself towards it by using the momentum of falling and hooking on to it, amd releasing so you'd fling yourself too it
@@Jenna_Talia that's what I thought!
No wonder I was so confused by the level layout, I did roughly the same thing as Bright and when I later unlocked a shortcut in the far tower I fell to the bottom and got so lost doing the stuff I supposedly skipped
My favorite part of this game is that it (almost) teaches you nothing. A LOT of the game's tech, and intricacies are just naturally introduced and learned overtime, with some nudging from the game. The game really does just trust the player to be able to intuit a lot of its platforming routes, there's no obvious yellow paint to tell the player where to go, just a room with some paths that the player has to figure out how to path through themselves.
It truly looks like Rayman 2, i love it
this game is so beautifull im loving it so far
this game must be from Mcdonalds!! cause "I'm loving it!" XDDD
🍔
Shame... 😂
25:27 I got stuck there too! I figured it out after a bunch of failed wall jumping. Hint: there is no reason why you can't be wallrunning and walljumping at the same time ;)
I came back to this part while streaming the game, and I figured it out. After a lot of trial and error..
Same, I'm surprised I figured it out after 20 minutes or so. It feels great when you get to challenges like these and something just kind of clicks as you experiment for a solution
That last one is definitely the hardest dungeon btw lol, but you need to check the blue lanterns every time for respawn
definitely 😂
i hope in the full game they add an extended tutorial that teaches you about bouncing & sliding and all that because this demo's tutorial basically gives you nothing in the way of movement besides jumping and wallrunning
There's a section that shows you slide, spin, and ground slam.
Hope that in the full game there's a more concrete use for the spin move. In this demo it just sort of... exists. It can be used to glide but not much further than just running and jumping, and what little it is used for is very inconsistent in its success rates. Same goes for actuallty hooking things with the rod. You use bait a few times but they also demonstrate turning your fishing rod into a flail and I don't think I've found any other examples of it outside the tutorial. Shame too cause popping the balloons was fun as hell.
The main theme reminds me of Escaflowne
Bruh holy shit, you skipped a whole platforming section by doing that swing at 23:06
Huh? Ain't no way?! 😧
The hardest platformer? dude it was one of the easiest games ive played... my newborn could play better and he is STILL recovering from my drunk driving incident I got in last night. All im gonna say buddy.. is get good.
I wouldn't call it the "hardest platformer", but I would definitely say it has one of the steepest learning curves I've experienced in a long time.
And you'd be right. I feel a little stupid calling the video, "the hardest platformer i've ever played", because it gets a lot easier as soon as you understand the mechanics of the game.
its hard for all the wrong reasons
@@chucklehead59Yeah the game's not all that difficult, especially once you get a handle of the controls. Most of what'll set you back is trying to catch the fish and there being a severe lack of fishing rod checkpoints in certain areas (water towers my behated)
It doesn't help that some segments are ruthlessly difficult compared to the game as a whole. The tutorial wall running segment is probably one of the hardest wall runs in the demo and that's not even a joke.
@@Jenna_Talia once you start to slide jump into walls, wall running gets a lot easier to land
@@Jenna_TaliaLiterally my fav spot in the game because of it! Took me like an hour and a half to figure it out and then I died cuz the golden fish had that thang on him 🤣
I love the world, I hope the final game will have more story and less steep learning curve.
Some areas are very hard with little checkpoints.
I completely agree. This game is a little unforgiving..
I have Cuphead reviewer syndrome when playing this game, the jumps are very precise and I still need to get used to all the moves and controls
this would make it big as a streamer zoomer rage-bait game but they're going for the y2k nostalgia gamers instead
You're so right! I hope it hits the right target audience. 😅
I cant wait for the full reslease, but i do hope that they take their time, i dont want another cyberpunk..
Also i hope they do something more with the combat, a boss fight in this game would be incredible
I hope they take their time too. I would really like to see the platforming and combat start off easy, and get progressively harder throughout the game. Not only that, I want them to take their time with the storyline. Everyone loves a good story.
Took me 9 hours to beat and it was amazing. My one complaint is that I wish your compas would point you to any extras you missed (696... if you know you know.) This game was such a blast to complete, I genuinely teared up when I finally got past the final challenge of the game and I stared at the sunset as I jumped off the tower. I genuinely love this FREE game and I had a lot of fun earning my scales and ascending as a Fyskar!
I really love the art direction in this game and the music is really enjoyable. Only few issues I had with this is that some of the jumps or mechanics feel almost too precise. Saying that the controls do feel really responsive and snappy, many mistakes I made were on me for sure . Some areas seem way too punishing for the setback you get by failing which may be in part due to how big areas some areas are. Also I had one weird issue while playing where randomly my game would freezing for a second or less when getting to new areas and this made me fail the giant tower climb making me fall halfway down. The game runs fine for me but im not sure why it had some small freezing issues rarely.
I personally think that Celeste, but speed running it. Is the hardest platformer, but I could be wrong. There are much harder games out there.
I'm not sure it can really be called a "demo". As far as I can tell, the challenges in this Tacklebox will not be in the final product, and there's definitely enough that it can be called a full game in its own right. But it's definitely done the job of a demo: reeling in (pun not intended) people who would otherwise not pay attention... me included.
valid point 🤔
You should review Akimbot.
i gotta say, i've played a lot of platformers with ball-bustingly hard challenges forcing you to master your unique moveset to succeed, but i don't think a single one of them was in 3d
someone literally risked to make a gen 6 looking game
I connected it more with skyward sword initially from the composite effect, but I can totally see the twilight princess vibe to it too. The visuals really attracted me to the game along with the music.
Yes! The ambience and atmosphere of this game are lovely. ☺
25:24 this maneuver I think was not communicated to the player either well or at all. If you wall run across the back wall, then as you hit the corner reverse direction and jump you reverse your running direction still along the back wall and can gain height just wall running back and forth. My explanation might be a bit bad, I ended up just looking up a video of someone else doing it and even though I know how it works now its still kinda rough to do
One of my favorite games rn
Preach brother! 😤
The mortar island made me remember the Halo Reach mission where you had to take out the A.A Battery.
I struggled with this too, until I learned how the mechanics truly work and understood how the devs placed secrets.
Its only hard because of how finicky the controls and physics are.
The wall run and jump barely works and the gravity is too high.
Once they fix the physics and give a proper tutorial, I doubt it will be as hard.
Because they literally teach you nothing in the demo.
this ^
I find the controls to be very tight and responsive, I have no problem with gravity or wall running/jumping, but the level design can sometimes work against it. There are some puzzles that are easier to pull off and/or just plain fun to do and replay, and then there are some that require platforming that seems wonky and are hard to consistently pull off even on repeat attempts after succeeding. They need to find that balance of what a fun (and hard but fun) platforming challenge looks like.
I think some proper tutorializing, like you mention, or slighly more linear progression of levels/puzzles that teach you a part of the movement scheme will go a long way. Right now, if there's some move you don't know you can pull off, you get stuck in certain places.
@@jonasmemborg4196 this is a fair rebuttal 🧐
