SM58 is the workhorse of the industry for a reason. I have kept several in a bag for over 30 years. That won't be changing any time soon.

Love the Outro, is this a Jack composition?

The low end of Neumann KMS 105 is incredible! Thanks!

Neumann or SM58. Both have great frequency response and easy to work with. The SM58 is a go to for me with live sound. Although it’s a little heavy in the 4khz-5khz range , it translates well going through some outboard gear.

After trying out many different types and brands of mics, I prefer the shure sm58. It has a nice warm and clear sound .

They all sound good. Forget the gear, write a great song, perform it with heart and conviction.

The Austrian Audio may be good for really deep voices because of the bump in presence but I'm not sure if it won't become tough to handle. The Neumann was great but yeah, the SM58 just is incredible for the price!!

The low end in that microphone sounds fantastic, that said, I agree it might be a bit much on most vocalists. It'd love to hear it on toms or maybe as a kick in.

Are you just running these straight ro a mixer or do you have a preamp? I find running my SM58 directly into my audio interface doesn't seem to get as loud as I would like.

      I had to use a pre-amp too for SM58

I use a Heil Sound PR35. Was tempted with the 105 but went for dynamic.

The e965 has a pattern switch. For comparison to the KMS105 (hypercardioid), the switch should have (and may have) been to super-cardioid. With both of those mics, the advantage of their design and pattern is that one shouldn't have to "eat the mic", and wouldn't want to due to the further exaggerated proximity effect. The SM58 is a workhorse and a good investment for live, especially if the house is supplying the mics that will be subjected to more potential, physical abuse over time. That said, I do know quite a number of live sound engineers who bring out a higher end mic for a lead singer, from their own collection. They know how the mic performs and can let the singer know what they don't have to do with that mic, that is everyday practice with an SM58 - like, don't eat it, work it instead. I chose the e965 as my own personal mic for live, so I have the equivalent of a KMS105 and KMS104 in one package. For some venues and sound systems, the more open cardioid pattern can work better than the super-cardioid pattern.

I’ve heard a couple of these compared elsewhere. I like the Sennheiser and the Neumann, Neumann is a bit of a smoother sound, Sennheiser as a more “soulful“ sound if that makes sense. Shure feels like a rock sound to me.

i like the details of the austrian audio. however, the neumann was very neutral and flawless. the highest frequencies are so silky smooth, that is amazing. compared to it, the cheap sm58 has no detail at all and the others have detail but are a bit harsh.
i don't know what neumann is doing here but capturing the high frequencies that smooth is woderful.
it must be something with the capsule design that suppresses odd harmonics in the highest frequencies.

IMO: The Neuman sounded best for your voice, and the Sennheiser was second. They all seemed pretty close and perhaps any differences would be less significant if you tweak the eq on each.

Just for giggles, it would have been fun to use an old-school Shure 55S. a.k.a. The Elvis mic.

I don't like none of the expencive mikes in the lower mid range - they are just to loud there compared with the shure. That is why shure cuts much better through the mix in a live situation. For studio those other mics might be the better choice but this depends on a voice you record too.

Unless you've just had your first #1 and been invited to do a residency in Las Vegas, I'd say go with the Shure and then invest in a litre of petrol with the money you've saved.
