The engine and exhaust sounds were achieved trough editing all the different sound channels within the film by muting channels that contained music, speech etc.
Specifications:
The Dodge Charger R/T used in The Fast and the Furious featured a false BDS 8-71 Roots-style supercharger with chrome-plated plastic attached to the the hood. Butterflies traditionally do not open or react when the engine of a Dodge Charger R/T is revved. The R/T purported to have 900 horsepower and a rear wheel drive.
The original R/T used a hydraulic ram for the burnout-wheelie scene, however, the hemi that appears during the garage reveal sequence, the supercharged Chrysler 426 hemi V8, was not used for action sequences. Instead, an 383ci from Mopart was presumably used in its stead. Additionally, the R/T is thought to have been a 1968 Dodge Charger disguised with 1970s parts[3], such as the nose and mixed trim. Modifications made to the R/T included its use of Nitrous Oxide, Catherine wheels, a stainless still mesh grille and a full roll cage. The R/T uses Rear Wheel Drive and Continental Sport Contact tires that are 18- x 8.0 inches in front and 18 x 8.5 inches in the rear.

You say in the description that the butterfly valves traditionally do not open when the engine is revved. But they actually do. On a real, proper setup like that, the butterfly valves are connected to the throttle linkage so when you accelerate, they open to allow air to flow into the supercharger, the return closed when throttle is released
The description is a mess, it seems like they're talking about a stock Charger, which is irrelevant. Also, 18 inch "catherine wheels" with continental sportcontacts? The shot of Daisy Spokes with thick wrinkly drag slicks says otherwise.
@@viktorhardindyrvold4234the Catherine wheels thing makes no sense to me. The only thing I can think of is the actress who played Daisy on the Dukes of Hazzard was named Catherine.
The Continental tires thing is probably referring to the car as it appears in the 4th movie.

Still have my 1968 4-4-2, base level few options. and yes, they are 3,800-4,000 lb cars. They ride very nice over regular roads--you get tossed up on a bump, but you get caught in the air rather than dribble like a basketball in a Cadillac or other softly sprung car. If you've ridden in a perimeter frame car you know what I mean. And having big block torque at your feet, there's no waiting for boost or downshifting. And yes, three gears go by fast, can't imagine the two speed automatics that came before it. but at least they gave us switch pitch torque converters--GM really dropped the ball by not continuing those things.

I love how you were able to isolate the sound of that beast! It's exactly how a high rpm race built 426 hemi should sound when dropping the hammer, and it's my favorite sound.

@@hojnikb It is a Hemi v8 from nascar in the 70's revving well over 7000 rpm from the sound of it, those valves must be screaming from the pressure and tolerances that it is undergoing if It was me doing the build I would keep it na and go to 1000 hp with the same fake setup. It is doable just a lot of work over 60k done right plus a 45k dollar car.

Rydsei210, flaps do open on a street scoop because the linkage is hooked to the carb. Flaps do open slightly when the engine is idling because of the hi-po cam and crankshaft. Eargasm the whole video. This video is awesome.

It's really is funny how, in hindsight, the blower being fake is extremely obvious, it's just the average viewer either wouldn't notice or just wouldn't care. You can see it move and bounce around a few times in ways that it wouldn't if it was actually attached to the engine, and of course, cars with blown engines tend to make a distinct whistling sound, which is not present in these sound files. Something that the later films would correct.

God that idle is so fucking thumpy! Only if we could hear the blower sound! I still prefer a rumble idle over the thumpy idle. But I don't understand something. When he launches the car, it does a wheelie but the tires spin even though they wrinkle. I don't get that. Your tires wrinkle and you might do a wheelie if you get traction but you won't do a wheelie or wrinkle the tires if you spin.
