For anyone who is interested; When Tiffen created Pro Mist Filters they created the different strengths in order to provide a consistent level of filtration across the range of focal length lenses because the filtration effect increases as the focal length of the lens becomes more telephoto. A 1/4 pro mist (black or white) will be much stronger on a 85mm lens than it will be on a 25mm lens. A common formula for using Pro Mist Filters is 1/2 Promist for 18mm and wider, the 1/4 Pro Mist for 25mm - 35mm lenses, and 1/8 for 50mm and above. I hope this is information is useful.
@@ruok-l5t I believe the principal applies to any size sensor. The formula I listed above was what I used to use when shooting 35mm film but I believe as long as you are taking care to decrease the strength of the filtration as the lenses become more telephoto you will see the effect is more consistent from image to image.
Hi, Is there any way that I can use the ND filter and Hollywood black magic filter together? Apparently, there is no front thread for the Black Magic filter :(
Interesting video! I was considering buying the Tiffen but then two days ago Moment came out witz the CineBloom ...now I bought this one. Could you compare the CineBloom to the other ones pls? Im curious!
Joon kinloch I would use the pro-mist for beauty because I don’t think you will notice the loss of contrast in the shadows and the highlights are 🔥.Both are great at smoothing skin though.
I'm debating picking up a 1/2 Hollywood Black Magic filter because it matches the thread size of my largest lens and it would less ridiculous of a look with a step up and my 46mm lens. Do you think it would be a drastic shift from 1/4 to 1/2?
You have some good stuff man . I believe your channel is about to blow up. I'm just getting started with my channel and i got the 14 day film maker and surprisingly its pretty good. Looks like you may already know a lot about filming. Keep it up bud . I may need to get some advice from you from time to time .
Hey man I’m planning to buy this: Tiffen 62PM14 62mm Filtro de cámara - Filtro para cámara (6.2 cm) www.amazon.com.mx/dp/B001U3ZXMG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_gwEgFb7S57NXG but I don’t know if its the same Lunasol is talking in the video, do you happen to know maybe?

And these focal lengths are based on a full frame sensor?

Great info Matthew thanks!
MVP. This comment is a gem in a sea of misleading opinions. Thank you, sir.
priceless info Matthew many thanks!
For example in Peaky Blinders they used Schneider HBM 1/4 & 1/2 as so Tiffen Black Satin
super helpful! answered both my questions of which filter to get and if it was cool to get the 77mm and use step up rings.
Great to hear!
for stylish look i think is better go for promist 1/2, and 1/4 shneider for general propose
The Tiffen looks a bit better to me, seems to have a softer roll off.
And what about the Glimmer glass 1? Did you tried that?
In your test black pro mist has less fog, it is better for me. Thanks for Sharing!
bro its the opposite
great video thanks! does the HBM have front threads? cheers

Wish there was a side by side comparison of the same shot tbh.
@2:28 time code is close and shows the big difference with the flame.
In your opinion, Which filter would you recommend for a beauty RUclips channel?

Lunasol Studios thank you sir!
I'm considering getting Tiffen 1/8 black pro mist and then putting Revoring VND on top of that. Do you think it's a good idea?
Very helpful comparison, thank you.
Tiffen all day long, even better then Moment.
Why not show the same shots using each one? Hollywood has no screw element so how can one attach a VND.
Subsribed!)
How can i add it on my Zeiss Batis 67 mm lol?Black magic 1/4
Thanks bro)
He just said it in the video - buy step up ring
@@TODOMATIO thanks send a link if you know for 67 mm lense

I personally think that the 1/2 is perfect for close ups but feels a little to strong for everything else. 👍
If you're ever looking to collab, Im in Santa Maria!

@@leaf4958 thanks man, never late
Which is ironic given actual real “cinema” tends to use the Schneider 😂
