The original video has been edited with certain information redacted to maintain within the current YT community guidelines.
Here is the original video description:
Hi all if you are wondering what Pure Living For Life is up to or where they went you are not alone. They have been off the grid so to speak for almost a year now. I believe they put their house for sale so I don't suspect they will be finishing it. This will come as a huge disappointment to the loyal followers who had hoped to watch their home get completed.
For those of you who want to follow a true off the grid micro farm make sure to subscribe. Come spring time I will start posting videos of the homestead we bought (this is a real homestead from the turn of the century we are revitalizing) and it is truly off the grid with no option to even run power to the property if i wanted to! I will also be featuring made in America tools and we will be fixing up the 100+ year old homesteaders cabin that is still on the place!

Recently PLFL has put out a Cyber Bullying video specifically with clips taken out of context from this video as well as malicious and misleading editing implying that I have orchestrated anti PLFL chat groups as well as contacted friends, family, associates, co-workers, etc... of theirs as well as looked up publicly available information about them such as divorce/marriage records, land title info etc... Although they have not flat out accused me directly of this, with the editing they did and the selective clips from this video they strung together that is the conclusion many people have made (I can't blame people for coming to that conclusion I would have myself if I was a casual viewer!) I have NOT engaged in any of these activities in any way shape or form. In fact I would argue plfl are the real cyber bullies and they don't even realize it! If your initial intent was to comment on here to tell me I'm a bully etc... save it until after I have a chance to finish my rebuttal to the nonsense PLFL has put out.
Why does PLFL have an issue with me, its pretty straight fwd, they think i doxed them with this video because initially it was published without some of the MLS info redacted. RUclips legal even got involved and the video was reinstated. To be doxed there has to me malicious intent which there never was. In fact I never received a community strike which I would have if they had been doxed. TY legal did tell me however their policies were evolving and they were moving away from anyone being able to show an address so I was advised to blur out certain parts which I did. In hind site I would have taken a different approach to the way I created the video but it is what it is now.
So why did I create it in the first place? It's pretty simple, PLFL fans had been starved on content for a long time and I am building up a channel that I think would have similar audience interest to what theres is. My intent was to get people who liked the DIY off grid build / homestead lifestyle type videos introduced to my channel. Thats it plain and simple.

I've read your rebuttal--a couple of times.
The clip taken from your video is just one of many from all sorts of people from all sorts of online platforms. I think Pure Living for Life made it pretty clear (and I tend to agree) that it is the amalgamation of ALL the videos, Reddit threads, social media and so on that emboldened people to do what they did.
Mob mentality at it's finest; culpability is shared.

I have to agree with others that it became obvious quickly that Jesse didn't know what he was doing. As the videos progressed, it seemed like we saw Jesse doing more crazy stuff, and we saw less and less of Alyssa. The real deal breaker for me was buying a $60k-$80k airplane right in the middle of a house build. Plus they disregarded sound advice from people who knew a whole lot more about building structures then they did. Leaving the SIP Panels out in nature for so long. There was numerous problems. The problem with giving youtubers advice about the projects in the videos is that the videos are usually several weeks or longer behind. When the video gets posted, that work has most likely already been finished for a while and any help or advice is kinda too late. Plus, all or most of the advice was always negative towards them, i bet that would get old real fast. With so many negative comments, i bet it would be hard to even listen to the ones that seemed to offer real advice that was actually helpful.

However with this build they were far enough along they could have finished the house in my opinion. They did several things that I wouldn't have done like the manor in which they secured the timber frame to the foundation but for the most part siding and interior finishes, plumbing / electrical they could have chipped away at or subbed some of the trades to get it livable. I was disappointed that they stopped putting content on youtube as someone that followed them for a good length of time. I believe the last house-related project was them installing the tiles/backsplash for the downstairs kitchen area outside of all the gardening content. I enjoyed the fact that they let us see or come along on the plane rides as with seeing where Jesse was from and meeting his family along with going back to Alyssa's college town. I had watched many hours of house-building footage and learned quite a bit along the way. The abruptness was both confusing and worrisome as one may have thought something bad may have happened. I hope they are doing well and at the end of the day they don't really owe any of us an explanation it's their life, good luck to them.

I don't know anything on that front for sure but I would speculate when they had the camper/shed set-up they likely stayed in it occasionally when they first started out and in the summer. I don't think the house was set up enough to actually stay there especially with a baby. So that being said I am sure the rumors they live in town are true, at least in the winter. There was an episode while they were "living in the shelter" that they supposedly just opened the door to go out after it just snowed and there were footprints in the snow. Several times they showed jesse adding wood to the wood stove, grabbing the handle with his bare hand. When it's that cold and poorly insulated, you don't let fires go out, let alone dead cold. Things just started adding up, they weren't living in the shack. They brought a bed into the house, but it never had stuff around or near it. After reading the comments section here- thank you everyone for answering my questions on what happened to their channel. I kinda moved on after he began his flying lessons, at the time I purchased a house "on grid" in need of total repair, and PLFL was doing nothing for me. I think the last video I watched was him putting the metal roof on. I have a full time job, work on the house 2-3 hours afterwards all most every night, days off, that type of thing. I'm holding my own and it's coming along. I have a move in date written down somewhere, like June-July 2022. I watch several channels, research all options, with the goal of being the most energy effective cost saving "on grid" homeowner I can be. I do all work myself, foundation for addition, framing, sheathing, roofing, all plumbing, electrical, floors, windows, even the excavating. It's 2350 sq.ft 3 full bathrooms, 4 bedrooms on 2 acres. I currently just finished the HVAC, and now working towards finishing the electric. No deals, sponsors, or tricks, just some good old fashion sweat equity. I paid 295k, I've invested 86k in materials and feel I saved close to 80k-90k so far, doing all the work myself. All I can say is follow your dream, be honest with yourself, and open to all the ideas and options that are available. It can happen.

I would never complain about anyone's video, if I don't like it, I simply quit watching... that's what happened with their channel, and so I moved on, I didn't get pissed, I don't hound people on the net who complain about them, I just find other things to watch. They promoted their channel like they were off grid, and the off grid crowd can get testy if you do something like fly in a plane, or connect to the electrical grid. I have been ACTUALLY OFF GRID HOMESTEADING since 1990 in the same county as them. and frankly these guys made me sick. Like all the people like me who really homestead, snowmobiling 18 miles round trip from mid December till mid may, keeping a hydro electric system functioning, raising animals and food. It’s not that rate around here.
It was clear from early days
These guys were yuppie grifters that came in with a new media plan to make a fortune on you tube. They fronted being broke but all of us actually have gone through this could see plainly this was never the case, land hasn’t been cheap here or anywhere since the early 90s when the last of the hippie homesteaders could afford bare land and give it a go..
Then of course as the millions rolled in from the armchair wannabes and the $90k pickup the airplane, sawmill, backhoe, excavator, even that $15k rock grizzly (sifter)you knew the house flip was coming. Usually these types end up divorcing and clear cutting for the log money before selling to some idiot and moving back to California.
BTW no matter exactly where they are in the county ( and it’s clearly not far from town since they were even able to bring in power ) that bare lot alone is worth 200k minimum, with the house ( half the houses in this county are self built ) closer to 750k this RE markets been on a tear for 40 years they knew it would appreciate good for them.
What I object to is the pretend homesteading and making others think you can easily do this. They had massive help, others built their foundation and first floor, and the timber framer school built there house in return for the promo.
unlike most of us they had a quarter million in heavy equipment at there disposal also an architect and engineer designed the thing for them. Sorry that’s nothing like homesteading or off grid living.

    • @NorthFork
      @NorthFork  2 года назад +13

We just bought an original homestead from the 1890's that has been abandon and overgrown for at least the last 30+ years and are trying to bring it back to some semblance of what it was and it is a ton of work, we have no option of grid power but still use a generator occasionally. It is a LOT of work. PLFL seemed to be more of an acreage development on the hi-way by town which is fine but viewers were initially sold the project as an off grid homestead development and it just turned into a DIY debt free home build (because of RUclips and Patron support). At least finish the actual build before you burn your $$ on an airplane and jam videos! Like you said the average person living off grid just starting up doesn't have a quarter million in equipment to get started. I know on my place all I am starting with is my pickup truck and a 20 year old Honda quad. Hopefully I can get some equipment one day but short term its just not reality.

The major fatal flaw is the way the SIP panels and drywall were attached to the beams. Drywall isn't structural. Why would you sandwich drywall between the SIP's used for the roof and the structural beams?
The entire roof needs to come off, drywall removed and the SIP's back on before the metal roof panels are applied.
Now that two or three years have passed, I'd be concerned about the structural integrity of the SIP OSB being exposed to the weather for this amount of time. Then the little problem of the attachment of the beams to the flooring if I recall correctly? No tie plates of the beams to the SIP foundation.

Despite it being obvious he'd never held a hammer in his life, Jesse wouldn't take advice. This maybe made tradespeople feel even more inclined to help him out, but he'd just get more and more snarky. I think in his head he wanted to make this backwoods timber homestead and everyone would gush all over his manly ruggedness, but that massive chip on his shoulder just got more obvious as it dragged on. I started watching quite early on into the house building and enjoyed the process of the house going up. However, I realised they were making all sorts of mistakes, ones that they should have avoided if they'd done their research. This make me realise they either didn't care or didn't want to learn. After a while their channel moved from building a house to canning foods and creating a garden. Finally it was "power tool reviews/comparisons" and I realised they were never going to finish it. At that point I'd stopped watching because it was clear there was no house building being done. It was also clear the house would have to be pulled down, at least in part, because the one year of OSB exposure had been passed.

$233K seems to be about the price of 5 acres of land up there! -- without a house. The house must have a fatal flaw. I was looking forward to the installation of the floor heat, the front porch, siding, external wood furnace and 1st floor plumbing. I would have thought he would have extended the beam out in front to hold up the front deck. I know Jesse did a lot of product reviews, but they never sold any swag (t-shirts, hats). @@NorthFork I don't even think it was a share in a plane! It was the whole plane, registered in a corporation in the neighbouring state, I assume for tax and other liability reasons.
Calling people "skid marks" was a definite no-no. To do that to your viewers, good or bad, was unforgivable. When you get a public persona you've got to be able to wash off criticism easily. For them to bite back at homesteaders like they did showed they couldn't.
They had something which was super successful, they just needed to keep doing what they did to make it a success!
I was supportive at first, but as certain aspects started to unravel I did question things. Especially when Jess was putting Alyssa in danger by not observing basic safety. Such as being under a several ton log whilst he moved it on a dodgy backhoe... Or the safety line for the roofing which would have caught her 6" before hitting the ground and snapped her in two...

You are 100% correct about how arrogant they became, they often used their self inflated ego's in the comment section as well. You are also right about their spending. If they are trying to build a house, why are they spending thousands of dollars to buy an airplane? Why are they spending 700 dollars on a fancy commercial coffee shop coffee machine? Why are they spending 600 dollars on buying multiple vacuum cleaners, and playing with danger, while messing around with flour and static electricity? Nothing about it made any sense at all. And all I got a sense of, is that baby of their's was at risk living in an unfinished home. In America we have CPS, and I felt they should have been called on the matter, but that was just my opinion. And I got my channel flagged and terminated for SPAM, because they didn't like me saying that on their channel.

@@stellarproductions8888 Sorry you got your channel deleted for commenting on PLFL's videos.
Going by other commentators on the Facebook groups questioning them, I believe someone did call CPS on them. No action was taken against them, which probably means they weren't living in the house. Or RV. As even as a building site it was dangerous.
The side door to nowhere, the stairs at the back with no barriers to stop you plunging down, the upstairs rooms. Even the front doors with no decking to walk out on. But for a toddler, they're quick! Before you know it they're doing something, and in that house nothing would be child safe.

@@johnsim3722 The safety issues were scary IMO, from climbing around that roof to the way they secured the timber frame to the foundation with screws, lots of things they did I wouldn't have but not a place to have a baby or small child until the house is further along.

They never once thanked the subscribers and he acted like he was the gift to all of us watching. He ended up redoing most everything , He wanted people to think they were married that was sure a fake act , I couldn't stand to see his fake marketing ploy. When they went to Macall for the winter carnival and paid over 300$ a night to stay in a Motel that was enough for me.

Of course they're selling the place. They're frauds. The channel was simply to make money.
