Absolutely Sir! I watched this last night for the first time. Certainly not a comedy... Not even close, but charming all the same.
Very dark, actually quite violent, but a great story idea beautifully filmed in an amazing setting.
Almost a Gritty British Goonies. 👍🇬🇧

Wow. I worked in that corner office building for 10 years in St Andrew Street. This has fascinated me seeing it back in 1946

There was also some location filming in Bethnal Green as well. The construction of Minerva Estate is clearly visible in some of the shots

It also serves as pure evidence that London in no way as political correct, multiculturalists, diversity left-wing liberals and the media now make out that London back then had a very large black migrant populations which can be seen was simply not the case. In the whole of the film, street scenes of normal people passing by and the great number of teenage children that were mainly boys, there is NOT one black face. Sadly as the film made in 1947 what London was truly like and the next year in 1948 the beginning of mass black, brown and Asian migration, now after 76 years is 63.2% of residents in London identified with an ethnic minority group.
