I hand walked my 2 year old everywhere! Through neighborhoods, up in the woods and then with saddle on. He was exposed to traffic on roads, then to bicyclists and walkers appearing unexpectedly on the trails. By the time I rode him he was desensitized to many things. It helped us bond too. Very valuable in training.

Dodger is a good horse. Quarter horses are working horses bred for ranch and working cattle. This is a steady, quiet, very intelligent horse, willing to do whatever you ask. I grew up on quarter horses and love the breed. I believe that somewhere in his life someone abused him in a barn setting and he is fearful they will do it again. Dodger is very smart and will do anything you want but his rider needs to be firm and consistent. You are the best person at the right time for him. He will probably always need an experienced rider because he will take over from a beginner. You two were lucky to find each other. And hey to Kyle for the good camera work!

Once he realizes he isn't going into past traumas from his other owners, plus no longer having pain issues in his mouth, not feeling well, he's going to be a great horse. Plus more gentle hands, and NO bit. He's living his true life now. Thank you for saving another horse, who is far away from a throw-away horse, because of past owners. Love what you do, Shae! So many great horses out there, who just need another chance with a more patient person who actually knows what she is doing. Yet, another horse has hit the jackpot for owners.💕

Makes sense, our rescue once got a quarter horse that was also sort of abandoned in a stall for a very long period, he got basic care maintenance but zero mental relief. And when we got him, he would lose his ever loving shxt if you tried to walk away and leave him in a stall after that. But he was fine getting left in an outdoor enclosure where he could see around him. He just had terror of being alone in a stall, poor guy. Sweet natured horse too, never agressive, but he could run in reverse very quickly if something was too much for him. Still he'd be careful not to injure anyone while making his escape, never ran over anyone or kicked or bit ever, main danger was if you had the lead rope and got your arm yanked by his direction change, he could be there one second and gone the next, especially at first before he learned to trust us more.

He was my baby and I was his only rider after I bought him. Golden buckskin, if I were young again ...I would love you forever..Now I will just pray for the most loving new family when the time comes. Thank you Shae, you bring back good memories of my Tam, who lived out his life being loved. Thank you, Shae. I love how you explain everything to your viewers about your horses, your mission, and your process. It totally makes sense that once you have helped specific horses develop through love, training consistency, and devoted care, you eventually will find them another home (perhaps a forever home in Dodger's case and age), where they can experience a special bond with a new owner. In this way, you are able to continue helping more horses who will immensely benefit from your attentive care and training approach. We already know that Lightning is a leased horse, and that Jiminy, Lumiere, Bagheera, and Belle (and perhaps Esmeralda) are staying with you forever, so you will need to sell the others eventually in order to have room to help more horses. Of course, it isn't easy to let any of them go, but you are thinking of what's best for each horse. The important thing, too, as you have shown us with Mushu (and others), is that you are patient and very careful in finding the right home for the horses you eventually part with. Kudos to you! ❤

Each horse has their own personality and when you find it and you work with them, they come around just nicely and your kind caring slow teaching helps a lot and I think people try to rush it and try to make a horse do something that they’re not even knowing what you want from them so I love the way that you take your time and really get to know the horse itselfHe’s awesome.

Seems he was concerned about getting a bit and today he realized that the bit wasn’t there so I saw relief. But he also seems to be a horse to push his limits. He loves people so I don’t think he was abused in general maybe the better words are neglected/isolated.

I think out of all your horses that Dogger is the most unique in that he has issues that need working in a good way because you are helping him work through .I love that you are so patient with them all.
    Keep up the good work.
Dogger is cool I'm so thankful that you took him in and are caring for him. ❤

I absolutely love Dodger, I love everything about him. He's gorgeous, smart moves beautifully, and he's sweet. His past experience of being locked up in a stall may be what he's worried will happen when he's near the barn. Once he gets used to the routine, his worry will diminish, but probably not disappear. I could watch him walk or trot all day long. I can't wait to see you canter on him!

Luv his “colors” today! Something has happened to him, maybe the time just prior to the auction, and because of that he may have a trust issue, but he was sick. He is the type of horse who will always love a good person. Your cautious training has helped him so much!

I totally agree. Once he gets his "newbie anxieties" worked out, he will be a kind and intelligent mount. Figure 8s and poles, obstacle courses, lots of stuff to work his brain as well as his body, and he will be a happy boi! He already looks healthier and a bit more settled today. ❤❤❤

What a cutie pie! Glad that Dodger has you to help him work out his quirks and past, gain confidence, and become the intelligent and confident horse he is deep within. Dodger's mind seems bright, he seems to have ideas that he wants to share, and he may get bored easily if his intellectual mind is not kept busy learning fun things amongst the mundane. Time will tell what he loves to do and what he finds mundane. What a fun adventure ahead for all 💖.

😊❤ Hi Shae and Kyle! I'm still loving Dodger!! 😍🥰 Even though I'm in my 60's and currently unable to ride I still learn from you all the time!! 😮😂 I can see the mutual trust building! 😍 Just the fact that you're riding him bitless tells him that you trust him and you aren't going to jerk his face around with a bit!! I can see it in his eyes and body language. Every time you do anything with him I see positive changes!! And you mentioned that most recently he was bounced around a bit. So, as you said, I think that he knows he will get love, care and a job and doesn't want to leave!! Poor baby, that's probably part of the reason why he wants to be so close physically. 😢 However, I have no doubts that when the day comes and he finds his forever home he will transition quite easily. Because you will have given him new, loving and safe memories!! 🥰 Luv ya! 😊❤❤

He is a wonderful horse, he will push but that is where a solid rider will keep him on track and he will give respect for the rider that he is working with and his world will smooth out. Who knows when its his time to get a new home the home will be with someone that he already knows and respects.

He is doing lovely. He will work through it. I had a mare that I worked with endless walking trotting loping poles. Quarter Horse and Paint World Champion trainers worked with her as well. She would just clip every pole. 🤦🏼‍♀️ She never did use her mind to work through them. She was deaf so maybe it just didn’t bother her to hit them because she couldn’t hear them. But she did win several classes in Western Pleasure and Halter Mares being deaf because she couldn’t hear the storms blowing so hard outside. 😂 Everyone thought she was on drugs. Nope she was deaf. 😂 Loved that mare!
