Just the best episode ever. Having been in the Torres Straits with these people, seeing this just warmed my heart, the sights the sounds the colours! The way of life, the music, their voices!
Awesome to see Haryn again. I loved that kid. Thanks Aaron and Jack. My son, Kento, said you had a couple of bees together at the Lion Den on your way up. Keep enjoying life, fellas.
Oh, 😅, um, yeah, dugong hunting is shared experience between Indigenous and non Indigenous people. We like to share the experience with everyone. It's common to invite non Indigenous people along, since we are the only ones that can hunt them by law in Queensland. We wouldn't let ya starve. 😅🖤.
Thanks Boys , Great Stuff as Usual, WOW Island Life in the Tropics its hard to beat. This brings back great memories of me working in the NT in the 70s out on the Missions. Cheers Lads.......
So I've kinda watched your episodes backwards... and it's been amazing to see the evolution of your journey and your film making. Some of the best content out there in my humble opinion. Yyyoooh!
That was so awesome, how blessed were you both Az and Jack. Watching this, I was wishing I was there. That was just living! Great Video, cheers for sharing all the fun, that feast was next level, Stay safe and respect to all the family's! ❤🤙💙💚🙌 P.S Jack the trout was nice! PPS. Go the Salty Monkeys, they just uploaded a new vid tonight as well 👍❤🐟💚💙❤
Will you be showing footage of a traditional Dugong hunt? I'm curious about the techniques and strategies that are employed in the hunt to secure these animals.
My Dad got so excited when he thought I was asking him to go Dugong hunting. The disappointment in his eyes in his eyes when he realised I was just asking a question about it. I bring him nothing but shame. Lmao. 😂.
The few indigenous who still hunt traditionally (mainly TSI’s) know and only take what is needed. Shame mankind cannot learn these traditional rules - !
I love and appreciate keeping a hold of traditions and way of life. I just wonder how it actually impacts the situation with modern day inventions like in this example is the power boat. Sure they fished for turtles and dugong but how does the impact of having this new technology affect the ecosystem. Let me preface that with, I know, the invention of the modern fish trawler is no comparison to this whatsoever. Just curious to know the micro vs macro impact of these things. Love the videos boys, keep it up.
I'm with you Fuzzy. You want a Turtle or a Dugong, use a dugout canoe, and no diving equipment. Enough of both species get accidently hit by boats. To be honest, I'm amazed I had to scroll this far to find your comment. People obviously have no idea how few there are. It can take a Dugong over a dozen years before it breeds. Using a powerboat to catch them is ensuring their extinction.
@@tsubadaikhan6332 they rarely eat these commodities, they are special and only to be eaten for special occasions and gatherings. Same can be said with even fishing, no other predator has the benefit of technology like us.
turtle and dugong is apart of aboriginals culture too, there are coastal aboriginal mob too, were not all desert people, I know a turtle feeding habit and movements better than most ain't rich waters where I'm from
I love watching Back to Basic's, and live in FNQ myself but hammering around in a boat with a motor chasing down now extremely rare turtles and dugongs until they are too exhausted to swim is not really "Traditional Hunting" .
Appreciate your point of view mate. I was just a spectator on this day. Everything evolves I guess … even the term “traditional “ . Thanks for watching 🤙
Quelle belle existence paisible et dire que je vis dans un monde industrialisé complètement stupide 😬😬😬😖😖😖 J'espère que vous mesurez la chance que vous avez car tout le monde ne peut pas vivre comme cela 👍👍👍
That is so not cool! You know that turtles are endangered. Just because they have done this for a long time does not make acceptable now. That is why the tuna and many other species are almost extinct. Mankind's greed is unbelievable. You should not be a part of this. Shame on you. I question now should I unsubscribe to your website. Sad!
Bye Felicia! You should pick up a book then, and read up on how indigenous people live off of the land. Especially islanders. There's a huge difference in commercial fishing (man's greed) and the self sustainability shown here.
I have my reservations about turtles or any animals being taken for consumption using "traditional" lingo. I have personaly witnessed turtles being hunted using modern technology and then after being shot then kept alive on the boat for days using hessian sacks that are kept wet . Please stop using the term "traditional" when the only things that I see as traditional are them being caught by hand. They were traditionally hunted and eaten by these mobs but no where near the same way as decades ago! Take them if they must but do it humanely and within the bounds of the fisheries laws.
Sorry but totally disagree with the message this videos sends out. You say you are conservationist and the indigenous say they respect the land and the animals etc, so why would you even want to catch a turtle when they are endangered. You took part in this hunt so are equally complicit in hunting endangered species. The Aboriginal people need to update their way of life if this is what they are still doing, not excuses that they have been doing it for thousands of years. The animals on this planet are in danger and continual disregard to hunt endangered species is wrong on all counts even if they are indigenous people. very disappointed in the Rangers for allowing this hunting to continue.
@@torenzoelisala8980 No you are ignoring the actions we all need to save the planet and its wildlife. If you kill all the endangered species soon you won't have any left and the planet will die. I wonder what your indigenous forefathers would think of that if your culture and traditions are so precious that they protect the whole environment and way of life. We all need to change our ways and unfortunately, that also means changing traditional ways of life otherwise we won't have a planet.
I live in the Torres Strait if you don't know the history of the Torres Strait Islandrs or have lived here more than 10 years You should speak on what is right or wrong there are laws up here about hunting turtles and dugong Every island works together to protect and do there part. I just find it wrong that someone or anyone can try and talk about any culture around the world but has no idea What's happening in any remote places where people live The boys from back 2 basic are showing the world just another way of living Thank u boys love the vidz
@@lukenakachi6502 So how are these guys protecting the endangered species by hunting them? Doesn't matter how you wrap it up or attempt to explain how they know what they're doing because they are indigenous, it doesn't mean it's right to hunt these animals when they are endangered and protected from hunting by anyone else. They are protected for a reason and everyone regardless of their background should uphold that and the Rangers and the law should enforce it. It matters not where I a m from or what my background is, it remains wrong to hunt endangered species.
Like I said you don't know the rangers up here are doing there job It's easy to say when your not here to actually see how the rangers do there job They have been hunting and eating turtle and dugong well over a 1000 of years
This is the only video of yours, that I have chosen not to watch. While, I understand that hunting these beloved species is a part of their culture and survival...I myself, just cannot watch it. Being from Florida, trying to protect wildlife, such as, turtles and manatee has become part of the liberal culture here, after two centuries of ecological destruction. The species, that I think of as my "spirit animal," the manatee, (affectionately called chubby mermaids) is just barely hanging on by some hippies and prayer. No hard feelings here, just too tender ones not to cry. I'm looking forward to next week's video. --Jessica from Florida 🌞
Beautiful night is right!!! Beautiful time with beautiful people… I truly believe this is the way life was meant to be lived.

Why cant they stop eating dugong? I know it's their tradition but dugong population is declining and is critically endangered rn. 💔
There is no acceptable reason for hunting Dugong lmao
