Great video, I wanna share some thoughts about what's up with Ryza 1's production. It's a really rushed Atelier game which explains how rough and a little bit lacking the writing is for the characters, (hence why there's the lack of character events as well as unvoiced cutscenes. The Character side story DLCs do not make up for it too, since those were made as "filler episodes" in mind) Gust was really lucky to be able to hit the jackpot for Ryza 1 sales-wise though! Now for the combat, I personally think the only issue with it was just the whole: "Your Item CC charge will only last for one trip outside the Atelier." If Gust changed it to something like: "Your Item CC charge will replenish after every single battle" I think it would be received better, because the good part about Ryza 1's way of handling item usage is how it encourages resource management while in battle-- wherein it's up to you to use those CC items and to Press and Hold the button to sacrifice one CC item in order to get a full CC gauge recharge. As for the monster/enemies being recolors: You'll be seeing that a whole lot throughout each subseries unfortunately :( They usually start adding only 3 or 5 brand new enemy designs for each game and continue to do the recolor approach for its variants. Lastly, the Synthesis system: A lot of first-timers actually get the wrong impression (because Gust couldn't make it clear in the games) but Quality is actually one of the lowest priorities you have to think about while crafting your items (even if it changes the final output values). It's usually the non-quality "Effects" gained from the material loops and the "Traits" that are the main attraction for it! xD For Ryza 1's synthesis, the part where depth comes from is through Recipe Morphs. The process of starting the synthesis with a simple bomb recipe, adding enough materials with Traits and with unlocking Effects, then heading over to the Recipe Morph Material Loop to open a brand new recipe tree, then repeating the process thanks to the amount of Materials you can add (it's called "Quantity" in-game) to improve the final output (and by extension carrying over Effects that you've already unlocked) is really really fun and gives you that "I've made a huge accomplishment!" feeling If you plan to continue to Ryza 2, I just want to let you know that the original writer from Ryza 1 wasn't available when that game was made-- which led to the main plot of that game feeling like an entire filler episode that serves its purpose to make up for the debt they had from Ryza 1 (aka the rough parts of the supporting characters not being too fleshed out). Ryza 3 has the original writer from Ryza 1 again though! (and it's my favorite one writing-wise since it answers and continues enough to satisfy the experience from Ryza 1 and Ryza 2) Hope we could see more Atelier content from you soon! Subscribed!
playing ryza 2 while listening to this 😁 these two games have been my entry into the series and it is absolutely enthralling. and yes, ryza 2 mechanically is so much better 🥲
Thank you for talking about this game, I tried it out on a whim last year and it quickly became my biggest comfort game. My brainrot was so big I played all three Ryza games throughout the year and bought the Mysterious trilogy and Sophie 2 as well.
I too became a fan of the atelier series through Ryza. And funnily enough also went with sophie later lol Im very slowly getting through this new favorite series of mine. It goes from relaxing slice of life to Minmax hours of trying to get the best items/weapons/armor. Great video talking about the good points of the game! It's hard to explain at times to people when they look at Reisalins design lol
awww yeah, Ryza rules. it's very relaxing while managing to have a pretty decent story and characters - I will say that every character appears throughout the trilogy, so you'll get more development for Lent and Tao in later games. I also really love the battle system; none of the games are at all difficult tbh but battles feel so active and fun that I forgive them. also pretty sure the CC thing goes away in the sequels, like you don't have to go back to the atelier to recharge it. I definitely agree about how the enemy variety completely sucks though lol I will say of the Atelier games I've played, the Sophie ones are ... probably my least favorite, but not bad! I really think the Ryza series is better than the others because of modern convenience and a super fun battle system, BUT I love the Dusk trilogy as well! like REALLY love, the story and world are so cool
I vibe with this channel. I also have a list of games i wish i had played but didnt because of ... Life 😐 But now i try to look forward to finally experiencing them. Front Mission Suikoden Phantasy Star Breath of Fire Shining Force Dragon Quest. Gotta get around to them one of these days
Now I'm not the biggest fan of this particular series but I did have experience with the side stuff namely with the Iris trilogy, Mana Khemia and Ar Tonelico. Outside of those I have never played any of the games in the series because I was not that big fan of just a whole bunch of female characters doing cute things for several hours and that's supposed to be the plot and maybe you get some guy characters here and there...... That is until Ryza entered my life. She single-handedly got me into her series namely because I like that she's a tomboy, The fact that they're definitely screamed a coming of age story with her, She was one of the few in this new generation that had a trilogy and to top it all off her friends also grew up and the story continued on from the first game. And yes it helps that she is very very attractive which makes me scream that she is definitely what would happen if we took a dead or alive girl and dropped her into a cutesy world like Atelier lol. Seriously them thighs and the boob game is way too strong but this would be the only time I would actually look at the series remotely seriously because it was the only time where it interested me. And now that this series is over and done with and we're back to square one I'm back to not really caring about the series all that much. But at the same time, I do appreciate this thick thighs tomboy for at least introducing me to her world. And yes I know the next game that was just announced it's gonna have another attractive Main girl and we are getting a sexy chocolate female character but I'm still not interested in playing The Game though.
My favorite one is Lulua, but the Atelier that I like to chill out with are either Ayesha, Shallie, Sophie 1, and Firis (Firis is more of a guilty pleasure to me tho lol)
...I really need to go back and actually finish Ryza. I enjoy playing it, but I just keep getting distracted by all of the other games that are on my backlog (*Cough* Trails *Cough*).
