When I first met my late wife, she was a Las Vegas Showgirl. She looked a LOT like Nancy Sinatra and used to perform this song as part of her stage act...including the dance from this video step by step. So this brings back a LOT of happy memories for me. This song was a huge hit for Nancy. A couple of her other big hits were Something Stupid (a duet with Frank) and You Only Live Twice, the theme from the James Bond movie of the same name. She also co-starred with Elvis in the movie Speedway, and sang a couple of songs in that movie too.

There is a scene in the great old classic film, "It Happened One Night", circa '34, where a young, strapping Clark Gable peels off his clean white shirt, only to reveal, shock of shocks...he was not wearing an undershirt! Well...after that movie came out, undershirt sales plummeted.
When this song came out, and Nancy would sing it on TV shows...women boot sales skyrocketed. Go-Go boots, they were called, and Go-Go girls started popping up on TV and at nightclubs. It was an evolution of Can-Can Girls...who wore long dresses, but flashed the audience with high kicks and such.
    Great song and reaction. Thanks.

Nancy was a swinging 60s chick for sure - she didn't write that song (it was written by Lee Hazelwood) but she sure made it her own. Frank's kids were well known back in the 60s - Frank Jr. was actually kidnapped in from a hotel room in Lake Tahoe back in 1963. He was released after two days when his dad paid a quarter million ransom - the kidnappers were found and prosecuted. Celebrity does have a downside.

An iconic song for the 1960's women. She really was not known as a singer or rather a long lasting singer, but she did have this huge hit and another with her dad that I loved called, "Something Stupid". She really didn't have the voice to carry her into being an actual singer for the markets, but her Dad's influence help her acquire these two great songs that really, I can't think anyone but her to have sang them. A conundrum I guess.
I do have an interesting tidbit about Nancy Sinatra. She loved Elvis and she got her wish to meet Elvis when Elvis appeared on the Frank Sinatra show in 1960, she was about 18 years old at the time. She loved Elvis. Seven year later she appeared in a movie with Elvis, I believe it is called, "Speed Way", and sang a small part duet with Elvis.

Welcome to the club, Jayvee, you are probably only the 200 millionth guy to react to her this way, LOL. Heck I was a kid, probably around 12 when this came out and me and my buddies all said how "weird" she was when we were playing ball or whatever..but when we saw her and this video...well...weird isn't what we were thinkin'.

Written by Lee Hazlewood, who sang it for about a year before Nancy recorded it. He admitted he was beat; it immediately became hers!
