      I was reading some of the other comments here, and this is very saddening that these Bosses today who act so hateful and evil, they don't realize the true source of their wealth, comforts and luxuries they get to enjoy because they have Staff. But it is only for so long that You can mistreat and abuse your Staff til one day you may end up with no Staff. These are some really sad stories I been reading here in the comment section and you can add my terrible experiences in along with these because there is evil where I work at and one of these Bosses are just the most arrogant and a bully.

      @@selenarobinson1493 Hi Selena, I am sorry to read that you are going through such moment at work. It is definitely demotivating and makes one doubt their own capabilities. Hope you are already looking into an exit strategy.
      I think through the past years we've started calling out these behaviors more often and some companies are now working a lot harder on their employer's brand, making sure that there is a healthy leadership within the company. But it's all a process and it's going to take a while until the change can be seen in all industries.

      Well, according to one of the replies we had in these videos, this manager just enjoys feeling the employee's fear, some bosses consider that it makes the employee's productive. It is indeed a very destructive way of thinking.

      I think people try staying away from such topics until it happens to them. Once it does, the level of empathy makes a drastic change. I think most of us, who had been in a similar situation before, know what a tough and delicate moment it is, and know that there are not many options to get away from the awfully toxic environment and boss.
      I actually enjoyed reading the opinions from the bosses’ perspective too. It seems some indeed have no idea what an impact such treatement causes over the employee’s life in general.

    Toxic behavior from a boss is usually the result of insecurity. They are insecure in their own competence so they go out of their way to sabotage and demoralize their team. They don't want people on their team to grow or possibly outshine them. A toxic boss's only priority is self preservation.

    • @myemmotion
      @myemmotion  6 лет назад +47

      Self preservtation actualy makes a perfect sense. And it could definitely be the case for many toxic management situations. They are bitter and arrogant with their team in general, but they demoralize those who stand out, who could potentially outshine them, especially if they are not easily manipulated.

    This video is SPOT ON. I quit after 46 days. Anytime somebody is condescending in voice tone coupled with disrespectful body language (ie. think shoulder shrugging, eye-rolling, etc., while they speak down to you) that makes you feel belittled, constantly and daily, it's time to go. Verbal/emotional abuse on any level is not acceptable from any supervisor(s). When you start to feel everyday stress, the physical aches and pains that go along with it and you dread going to work, there's your sign. Always give two weeks notice unless, you feel so stressed that physically and emotionally you hurt, it's time to go. Save yourself. Stress can kill you.

    • @myemmotion

      It is also extremely sad how some people need to feed their ego and make themselves feel good by bringing others down, downgrading their work and their skills, treating them like trash. • @myemmotion

  • @danielbryan5689

    My boss displays every characteristic in this video. He is a narcissistic and cold bastard. At first I thought I was doing something wrong until I realized that there was nothing I could do to get his approval. I work in the automotive field and he has made me feel like I have no influence in the company. Every week he takes away more and more of my hours, and will not allow me to take on any jobs where I can demonstrate my skill set. He doesn't know anything about cars and yet he tries to tell me how to do my job. Whenever I suggest something he dismisses it. I work as fast as I possibly can and he says I'm not productive enough. In his mind, everything I do is wrong, and its his mission to criticize me even when I haven't done anything wrong. It's people like him that ruin the automotive field as well as other markets. I can see now why many people are looking into entrepreneurship. People are tired of having horrible bosses screw them over.

      Everything that you have mentioned are the tools of how bad and toxic managers make themselves feel better and more important. I know exactly how you feel like, I know how it feels like going from a top performer into someone who, according to his boss, "never gets anything right". It is such a huge emotional abuse and a self esteem destroyer.
      There is not a lot you can do except for planning your exit and making it happen. Because even if you accept the situation and continue working, eventually your mental health will be suffering, you might end up questioning your own abilities. And that is the last thing we want. You have done nothing wrong, don't fill your thoughts with negativeness or self-defeating!
      It is curious you mention entrepreneurship, having gone through this experience made me put the corporate life aside. Have you gone through possible options of other jobs or of becoming a freelancer?

    my boss would pretend to be nice and cool. but he does not give a crap, he puts on a act as this cool boss but would always avoid performance analysis by lying over and over. he said I would receive a raise or at least a performance review every six months during the interview. but when the time comes, he would just tell me that he is very busy. sure I can have a beer with him but when I work for him I feel like a slave. Your boss can also make your work life unbearable and be abusive and even swear at you but if you said just one thing back to defend yourself they will say "Speak to me like that again I will have you in the office in front of the manager, and he will fire you". 99.9% of times the manager will take your boss's side over yours even if you are in the right and wanted to speak up about it. Being mistreated at work can make your life as a whole miserable.

    • @myemmotion
      @myemmotion  6 лет назад +7

      What you are saying is absolutely true. In fact this is what happens in most of the cases, the chances of getting the company involved are close to zero. CEO/Directors Board will always put your boss first. After having worked in HR for year, I've seen many examples of this to happen, in fact it happened to me as well. So the best thing is to either leave the department, or leave the company.

    • @Uksoapfan
      @Uksoapfan 6 лет назад +3

      Sometimes you wonder if the directors ask your boss to be like that to people, be forceful and pushy, they ask them to be hard on workers, meaning your boss has the full support of the management. Also toxic bosses can appear as good as gold to their bosses or to workers who dont work in their department. Others annoyingly say "he is a top bloke". Try working for them, you will soon disagree. That is why many people are going self employed, or they want to work in a job where they dont have to interact with people. I once worked for a boss who was OK at first but he started ignoring me for no reason, one comfort is he was like that to one or 2 others. One worker got on really well with that boss but that suddenly subsided and he began ignoring him. It is also annoying when bosses let their faves get away with things yet are harsh on the ones who are not his faves.

      I have since found out that usually, promotion of people who then become toxic bosses usually brings out traits that were always there before they got promoted. Psychologists say that success does not change personality, more that it brings out their true self. So when they become a boss, their arrogance is more noticeable, and was always there.

    My last boss was like this. I was one of the few people that would say something to her if she was treating me unfairly and that's probably why I was on her bad side. I was working with one girl for my entire shift one day. She was putting clothes away from the fitting room and I was in the back of the store hanging the clothes. The girl I had been working with all day was putting the last clothes away but there was still a lot to hang. I said over the walkie talkie that once shes done putting the last clothes away maybe we could hang clothes together in the back. One of my managers came to the back and said something along the lines of "before you make suggestions I'll need you to run it by me first" she seemed pretty irritated and I never tried to disrespect her. My head boss who really didnt like me was on vacation at the time. The day she got back from vacation she called me to an area of the store and basically started accusing me of "disrespecting managers" I told her I talked to my other manager about it and I thought the issue was resolved to which she replied "well now I'M talking to YOU about it." Another day one of my managers told me to just change the price for customers at the register if they thought the cost of an item was within 10 dollars of a difference. One customer claimed he saw a sign for an item that was $50 less than what it was coming up as. I asked if I could get someone to check the sign and the same manager who told me to change the price of an item was within a $10 difference told me to change the price for him. I told her I didn't think I could do that because it was such a drastic difference. Later the same boss called me to the back office and said "you know when I talked to you about disrespecting my managers?" Another day at work there were very few shopping bags in the front of the store for customers to use. Normally if clothes are returned we put those clothes in the bags so we can bring them to the back of the store later. Because we were low on the bags I asked my manager over the walkie talkie what she'd like me to do with the piles of clothes on the ground because I knew we were low on the bags and assumed she didn't want me using them to put the returned clothes in. She said "by the way can you not say those types of things in front of the customers? I got pretty irritated and said.. "um sorry? I was asking for the customers." Later she tried to say "I just don't want you saying those things out loud because maybe customers don't know it's that bad but by you saying it you might be putting those thought into their head". Another incident happened at work as well. I'm normally the only cashier up front for the first five hours the store is open so I help a LOT of people during the day. My manager called me to the back randomly and told me to sit down. I sat in the chair beside her and she said "you're a little too close to me" with a very disgusted look on her face. I asked what she needed and she said "So I got a phone call a couple of hours ago from a customer saying that you made her extremely uncomfortable." I immediately was like sorry but I have literally zero idea what incident you're talking about. I asked her if she could describe what happened and she gave me no good answer. She just said "whether you remember or not it happened and that's all that matters". I told her "ok well it's kind of hard for me to prevent it from happening again if you can't even tell me what happened." She just said "I need you to be appropriate at work and not ask people about personal stuff such as their age etc". Once again, I could recall anything that happened similar to that during the day. My best advice to anybody who has a manager like this is to leave as quick as possible. There will be somebody who appreciates you as an employee. I was tempted to write a letter of my experience working there to corporate but decided not to. How she treated me directly shows what kind of person she is.

    I was very lucky. I dealt with an abusive boss for least 5 years. I did everything to report what she was doing and how she was treating everyone. But the upper echelons kept dragging their feet. We have three buildings in our campus and I had no choice except to remove myself from the position and go next door. But the abuse left scars. I'm now being treated like an adult and not being micromanaged. I'm spooked still and am trying to get used to being treated right. Sometimes you have no choice but to quit. We had a huge turnover in our building for the last 4 or 5 years. The revolving door is going at top speed because of her. AS far as I'm concerned she's a psycho. I wrote a letter to the Administrator and told him what was going on. I stood up for everybody. Just yesterday another person walked out. HELLO UPPER MANAGEMENT, WAKE UP!!!!!

      I can definitely relate to what you are saying. The thing is when it comes to an issue like this, no matter how psycho the manager/boss is, it’s a no win situation. You can complain about it to top management but the manager will always be favoured! In my case, the whole department wrote a letter to the company owner, on how abusive and unprofessional our manager was and NOTHING was done. I don’t mean to be pessimistic, it’s just a very realistic approach. You did right by leaving as soon as possible!

He played mental mind games by never communicating clearly, was technically clueless and didn't provide any direction or clarity, withheld information for power and to look good in meetings, yet nerve failed to steal credit for my independent work efforts. He was toxic and made me hate going to work and do the job that I once loved dearly. Approaching my manager for help was even more tragic as he was very manipulative in convincing her that I was wrong and that he provided all support. The gaslighting that followed was the worst part and made me realize that it is impossible to win against toxic bosses who have power as they thrive in being manipulative and snake like. I was soo relieved the day I was let go and was finally able to breathe properly after 8 horrific months. My boss at the hardware store. He had taught me stuff and nearly smacked my hand with a tool for fixing the wheel barrel which I did not build. Once I fixed it or once I did something for them, no complements were given from him. The next encounter that I met him is when I was walking around the aisles to check if customers needed help within the store, he walks up and said I didn’t do anything, I told him that I was walking around to assist the customers, but he didn’t believe me. He gave me a job with the nuts and bolts aisle where I have to find them one out of a million places which most of them were impossible to find since people leave their originals here. The other day I had nothing to do but multitask with stocking and going outside to help customers and fill propane. He walks up to me and says that I didn’t do anything. He even said I had to be certified to do propane while he was cool with others, and yet they weren’t certified either. Then he kept making a death stare at me when he came back on break, I was walking to put the nuts and bolts back, he followed me there. I was having a hard time finding the bolts to where they belong, then I put one back. My boss was not satisfied one bit, and I said I costed him 8 cents a minute. He then told me that I had to be fast as possible at stocking which he or his sons should’ve told me about once I got hired. He then terminated me after this and had no use for me while his sons did have place for me, it wasn’t enough for him. And the guy was 83 years old too.

She told me it was a laid back workplace, but when she saw I was a hard and good worker, she pushed me to reach goals she didn't care about when I hired in. I currently work at a Lowes as a cashier/customer service associate. I had planned to work my way up but the work culture is so toxic that that plan has been thrown out the window a d I spend my nights applying for new jobs. The managers have horrible attitudes. This isn’t my opinion. Lowe’s requires that items that are being sold on clearance significantly below original value to be screened by a manager. We are not trusted to process the transactions ourselves. This would be fine, but it is routine for managers to stroll up to our station fifteen to twenty minutes after we have called for their help. I had one customer who waited thirty minutes to buy a potted plamt. This store is losing business because of the horrible attitudes of management. I no longer apologize to customers on behalf of the store. I usually laugh together with the customer at how horrible the customer service is.

No matter how angry you get verbally or physically never touch your boss even at times it’s tempting to do so. Never break the law. If you are going though the right channels and nothing is getting done then it’s time to turn other the page (look for a new job) it’s very important to look after your mental health and always remember you’re not your job.
