Awesome finding the LS6.
Too bad it is almost gone.
Thank you for sharing. 👍
it IS gone.
A moment of silence for it. Great video
No way to tell if it is a LS6 without the build sheet. A 396/402 car could have the F41 suspension. The infamous L on the tag is still a mystery. Thanks for sharing. I learned that from Patrick Glen Nichols, BTW.
Patrick Glenn Nichols doesn't say the L is a mystery, he says that most experts agree that the L indicates SS equipment.
The chevelle could be a big block ls5 car .
Patrick Glenn Nichols is the man when it comes to LS6 Chevelles.
Why don't you just say what it is it's most likely a big block SS Chevelle instead of just keep saying it's this what makes it an LS6 the sway bar doesn't make it an LS6 it makes it a big block disc brakes don't make it an LS6 steering shaft doesn't make it an LS6
Lots of bucket seats going bad. But they look very complete for as long as they’ve been sitting. Good video! Always informative.
Your wealth of knowledge is always impressive. Love your content brother. Keep up the good the great work!
I knew I had seen those cars before and that chevelle I was told maybe 20years ago that the LS6 motor was pulled and put into a tow truck that was sitting in front at the time. The cars were in a bit better shape back then but it’s PA so they were still rough. I was just a teenager with no money hunting for a 69 Camaro cheap
Thanks for the journey through time and your superior knowledge.
Isn't funny that there is more LS6 Chevelles now than in 1970 ?😊
Same with 69 Z28’s
I was thinking the same thing. It’s definitely a big block car, but no way to confirm it’s an actual LS6 without the build sheet.
I cant believe someone would let a car like this just sit and rot away because "Im gonna rebuild it one day" is about 15 years to late and they would rather see the car rot into the Earth before another man owns it
Yuppppppp I know how that is I know a guy with a 1967 fastback 289 4 speed and he won’t sell it to me cause he says “I’m gonna fix it up one day”
@@Jeremiah344, yes sirrrrr… How many times I’ve heard those stories for hard to find cars from people in South Louisiana also…👍🏾
Yeah what a waste
Its stupidity at its finest.
No one ever had intentions or rebuilding that. It was wrecked and parted out 40+ years ago.
Interesting video . Had to chuckle at the comment all for sale except the LS6 . Think the owner could put his mind at rest 😊
Yeah me too… I can only imagine how many people asked him about any of those cars and what price he was asking for any of them…👍🏾
Right noone in their right mind would want it...even 30 years ago lol
Good vid Parker. 👍
Nothing out there I would want unless I owned a paint and body shop and I probably still wouldn't want anything; basically nothing but junk out there.
Wow some amazing finds !! Love the chevelle !! Great video
A terrible waste letting that Chevelle rot away like that, I bet Patrick Glenn Nichols would be interested in this car
and nobody else would? get a grip fan boy.
@@scotmandel6699 cool it, you dig?
Always fun looking through old yards like this; they’re still out there guys! A little love for that Fathom Green ‘69 RS‘vert ❤ that thing would be a sweet ride!
I noticed that one too. The left quarter panel is looking pretty sweet on that one.
Amazing finds and not far from me. I am always on the lookout for muscle cars. Thank you for your videos, really enjoy them.
Impressed with your knowledge, great video.
i have a set of them lakewood ladder bars for my 71 chevelle!! nice vintage pieces from the past...
perfect for my barn find. back in the day, i would see alot of cars running the streets with them go fast goodies!! tachs, traction bars, shifters, cragers, air shocks, grant steering wheels, etc.
Cool story, bro. I agree with others that without the engine, dealer paperwork or build sheet, it can’t be determined if it’s a real LS6. Another thing is LS6 cars had a higher redline on the rack than other SS cars, but I see that the gauge cluster is gone.
It would be a big job but if that's a real ls6 Chevelle I'd sure like to make it my next restoration. Thanks for sharing this!
you mean swap tags?
it would cost a large fortune to restore that chevelle.
Your knowledge is amazing great job i have never seen so many 60's camaros in a scrap yard before.
LS6 did not automatically include cowl induction hood. That was an extra option on top of the LS6. Most seem to have the cowl hood, though.
C'ant tell from pic if hole for cowl induction present on firewall?
Cool video lots of factory muscle. That Chevelle appears to be a original ss but nothing confirms it to be a LS6. All the 70 ss chevelles come with the thick front and rear sway bar. It was Parr of the f41 suspension. That car could either be a ss396 or ss454. I'm surprised you didn't do the cowl tag on the chevelle. Have a good one
Tag was taken long ago 😔
That car is nothing but a rusty story pull the rear end and glass out of her and send her to Valhalla. She's done.
that chevelle is toast
Good mulch for a great garden. 🎯🎯🎯😎💯🐴
Excellent show, thanks.!
I've only owned 1 69 Camaro and it was code 67 burgundy with standard black interior. It was just a 307 Powerglide car though. I didn't realize the color was rare.
Check out the 67 camaro below the yellow one stacked on top of it. The trim tag says 08A. That would be the first week of August. I’m not sure of the exact day that production began but this had to be close.
Correct me if I am wrong. I would like to learn more about it.
Really interesting video, very cool. Thanks for sharing the info with us.
There is a difference in the Big Block valve covers. The correct ones have drip rails or "fingers" tack welded on the inside to drip oil onto the rocker ball. You'll notice on the chrome valve cover little "dimples" in the chrome. Those were correct on the 454.
I grew up owning a 71 RS split bumber and a 80 3.8 daily driver,, the 71, has a holly 650 spread bore, and a z28 cam, as well as basic headers and other stuff, I love camaro's and as I'm closer to retirement, I will own another💪💪💪
Patrick Glen McNichol can be the guy to verify if this is an LS6 car. FYI in 1970 the Buick GS Stage 1 455 ran a 13.38 quarter mile in box stock trim and will give a great argument about what car was the fastest pure stock car built in 1970!!!!
One of the magazines tested an LS6 vs a Hemi Challenger? And it ran 13.12 vs 13.10 for the hemi.
Hellyeah Parker, awesome video
Great find and work
A lot of good info! You know a lot about Camaro! By the way it’s called a window crank handle
For sale? I was wondering how much they'd pay me to haul them off.
@jamesogden7457 The owner will never sell them; something is wrong with their mentality, just like on American pickers...
Guy probably thinks he's sitting on a goldmine. Knew plenty of people who wanted an arm and a leg and never sold the car. It still rots to this day.
Spare wheel "date codes" would of been educational too.
A good fried of mine bought one just like this black on black with black interior in 1970 only difference was his was automatic but it was an LS6 I was lucky enough he let me drive it and it was an awesome experience 😎😊
Good video!
Awesome video man Thanks
Hay Parker great video. What do you know about the 1968. SS 396 4 SPEED yellow dipstick model ? Thanks
My first car was a 71 El Camino. It got the hood, dash/ gauges and front disk breaks from a wrecked 70 Chevelle SS 396. I wanted to swap the 4.10 12 bolt posi rear end for the 3.08 10 bolt I had as well but the fuel bill would have killed me! Instead I sold it to pay for a paint job. No SS emblems or stripes. I believe the color was called Mediterranean blue. It was still pretty peppy for a 350 sbc. Of course I rebuilt it with flat top pistons. it had Hedman headers comp 268h cam edelbrock performer aluminum intake but I kept the q jet. My brother had it runs right and she should sing when you opened up those big secondaries. I still have the SS 396 in my toolbox nearly forty years later.
When new those cars were so nice I bet, people would probably pay good money for some of those cowl tags, drop them on cars that are already restored.
Never heard the window regulator called a window winder , funny stuff ! 😁😎
Maybe it's a mid-Atlantic term. I always called them window winders or cranks. 😁
@@drewpierce2273 Problem is it's NOT winding it - it regulates the opening size or not ! 🤔
@davekreitzer4358 True. But, you gotta admit, turning the window cranks requires a winding hand motion. That's my theory anyway. Haha
@@drewpierce2273 So does turning the knobs on a lathe 🙄🧐
Now you’re funny too because the window regulator is inside the door! 😂
I disagree about the blacked out tail panels on all big block cars, I owned a brand new Yenko, in 1969, it was the same color as the car, and later another Yenko Camaro, it didn’t have the blacked out tail panel either. In 1970, I ordered a 70 SS 454 LS-6 , 4 speed 4:10 posi, black with white interior and stripes, I traded the Yenko in on it when it came in. The good old days! 👍
All Yenkos were not identically equipped, the first batch of yenko cars were blacked out
@@backyardbarnfinds I must have ended up with later models then, because both were body colored. The new one was bought from Bresee Chevrolet in Syracuse around July of that year. The other I bought as a basket case about 20 years ago, and did a full restoration on it. Was not number matching unfortunately, my original is In Unadilla NY in a collection there. I truly enjoy your channel, I was impressed a while ago with the video of the one off Olds that was in such bad shape. I have a 1972 W-30 Olds 442 in my shop that I ordered brand new, and still have it. Just finishing a 5 year frame off on it.
Wonder if there is a build sheet under that back seat? I'm sure Patrick Glenn Nichols could help identify if its truly a SS and possibly and LS6. I would assume the only way to know for sure is if the owner has a Protecto-Plate, build sheet, or engine block.
It’s wild how he waited until they are all smoked to sell them
Great stuff Buddy but I had experience with around 5,000 muscle cars back in the day and in street tune you’ll never convince me a Hemi Cuda beats an LS-6 Chevelle. I have first hand experience to make that claim and I know you weren’t around in those days, so please don’t pretend you did
Musclecar Review magazine early 90s had a shootout between a 69 Hemi Road Runner and a 70 LS6,long story but the LS6 beat the Road Runner 3 straight

Years later my brother bought a real 71 El Camino SS from the estate of his wife’s grandfather. He had bought it new. It had the LS5 454 originally but grandpa had swapped it in the 70’s. It was fine by the time my brother got it, but he found an LS5 from an Impala wagon of all things. The EC was forest green with black as stripes. Bench seat but had disc breaks 12 bolt rear and SS hood and SS gauges. It needed a full tarp and he was building a house so he sold it. I was a broke apprentice electrician and wants it but no $$$!
That's a F41 sway bar. The car has theF41 suspension option. It should have a rear sway bar, too.
It has aftermarket ladder bars on it so the sway bar would have to be removed.
You should do a video on your cars.
Coming Soon!
The LS 6 fan,id say is worth, alot
Ur Killin me...
Good thing they did not let them sit and waste away.
😂
..they were loved at one stage
I must have missed something...Yeah,that's a black big block Chevelle. Where did you get "LS-6" from? All those cars look so sad. They've been there an awful long time.(looks like since the 80's)
I enjoy so much how you share locations on firewall for various applications.
I wonder if you know all the paint dabs and colors and locations for factory check marks? My car is 69 RSSS camaro big block. Not matching but correct numbers. I'd love to add those check paint marks from factory
When I was 16 years old I used to work at a junkyard and it was filled with muscle cars left the salvage yard in 86 and went to work for dealership and now I'm back at that junkyard in 2024 and I asked him and he said the Salvage prices were up and it was time to make room for the newer cars
with even a smallest amount of upkeep, these cars could be worth so much more
He hasn't convinced me the chevelle is a ls6 car .
I owned an ls6
Who is to say it's not a ls5 car or a 396 car 6
If the car is a true ls6 car it's worth fixing .
Give me a price and a location if you can convince me the car is a real ls6 car I would buy it
This guy is saying its a ls6 car because of suspension.
The f41 suspention was an option that also came standard on the ls5 chevells .
Nothing he said proves its a ls6 chevelle
Somebody needs to get that Chevelle the hell out of there. This needs to be Saved.
Exciting and sad all at the same time. Hope the owner is easy with his prices for these "parts cars".
Great Find on the chevelle its an SS for sure But LS6 ? you can have those same options with a L 34 396 The rear end would be the money shot . At the end of the day thats all its worth and the color combo .
super knowledgeable.
Are any worth restoring, and how do we find out about them
Telephone number provided at the end of the video
Yes the LS-6 was a beast, but the GS stage 1 was a monster. This is racing footage from Michigan motor plex, where a Stage 1 wins all 3 races against an LS-6. Patrick Glen Nichols is the expert on these cars.
An SS 396 car would have all the same signs of a BB car right? No gauges for tach redline. Maybe a build sheet in the seats? Why would it be left to rot if an LS6 car? 🤔
Great job....thank you
"it's not for sale"
Thank god. 😆👍
Parker, did he say what the plan is for the LS6 if he’s not selling it?? Thanks for the vid 👍🏻
Most likely cutting the VIN tag off and putting it on a reproduction body. That's the smart thing to do.
I was very doubtful it was a ls6, but when you found the very rare breather and rubber seal, that was overwhelming and convinced me otherwise. Still don’t know why it’s not for sale as everything that made this car special is rotted away. It’d take so much money to get it restored original, it’d just make more sense to buy one all done. It’s just a very rough shell to start with. If I was rich, I’d save the iconic piece. But it’s in the wrong hands who just wants to claim they have a LS6.
The breather and seal do not prove it's an LS6. It just indicates that the car had a functional cowl induction hood which was available on all 70 SS's regardless of which of the 4 available engines it had.
There are only a few parts left on these skeletons and not worth rebuilding. They are good enough to decode for fun. I'm not convinced that is a LS6. Does he have the build sheet?
Some ppl would let it rot away before you or me own it ! Damn shame !
Nothing about that chevelle is LS6 specific.
How can you tell it wasn’t a 396 car?
Where is the SS rear bumper?
I have the car and driver magazine from late 69 when they drag tested all the new cars. The Chevelle ls6 was faster than the hemi cuda
Nope. Look at the Top 50 Musclecars as compiled by Musclecar Review and you’ll see the Hemi Cuda was around 6/100s faster.
There is no replacement for displacement. Your right ✅️
@@ClangOfTheHammer on slicks maybe. This test was bone stock off the dealer floor. No slicks, headers, or ignition
Yup i am going to build that ls6 someday.
Patrick Glenn Nichols is the man for a 1970 Chevelle. He can break it down know his cow tags
he doesnt have a cowl tag, so really no proof what it is
Great walk around, but I think you need to refer to all the cars in the past tense. Not this car “is” but “was” . !!
He never said that the car was in fact a ls6 he said what could make it one nd he said at the end what do u guys think is it a ls6 or not .. thanks bybf for showing us these cars im a big ford guy but i like my camaros nd chevelles
Where is this junk yard and how reasonable are the prices ??
When I bought my 1978 Buick skylark the people saling it also had a 1970 big block chevelle they were fixing up n going to sale
I love your videos but how are you able to say this was an LS6? You are pointing out several things that might say SS, but not an LS6. You need paperwork for that, and I do not see how that could even be available for this one in its condition. I was told a long time ago the only way to even document a 70 Chevelle is an SS is to look inside the quarter windows to see if the Malibu molding holes had been filled. If a 70 Chevelle SS ever had quarters replace there is no way to document without paperwork and numbers matching pieces.
Great video brother. Do you know PGN,??
As many comments that have mentioned PGN he should at least know the name. He need to watch some of PGN’s videos.
Sad to c all those cars just sitting . Hopefully some trys to salvage them...🤔
Could just be a ss 396 car too. They put alot of the same parts on those too.
It looks like they setting at the right places junk yard
Patrick Glenn Nichols is the professor of 70 chevelle cars
Enough of the Camaros I was actually interested in the Chevelle. I have a Camaro myself.
This guy is actually a hoarder
CRV axle code is for posi 3.31 gears and was also available in LS 5 SS Chevelles. An LS6 car could also have a CRW code 12 bolt which would be 4.10 gears. The F41 heavy duty suspension with the large front sway bar was standard on all 70 SS's regardless of whether it had an L34, L78, LS5 or LS6. SS wheels were also standard on all SS's. All 70 SS's were big blocks and the frame motor mounts don't tell you anything. I'm pretty sure small block non SS cars had the same frame mounts. You referred to the deck lid stripes as LS6 stripes and implied that cowl induction was only available on LS6 cars. That is incorrect. Cowl induction hood and D88 stripes were available on all SS's regardless of the engine. The stripes were standard on the functional cowl induction hood but had to be ordered with the standard non-functional SS hood. Although the Chevelle appears to be an SS, nothing that you showed on the video proves that the car is an LS6.
The short frame mounts came on all big-blocks, as well as small-block 350 cars. The tall mounts were installed on small-block 307 cars.
When looking at the hole and grommet for the vacuum hoses for the ‘69 RS, you mentioned it was like the ‘67. Actually, ‘67 had electric motors for the hideaway headlights, and GM switched to a vacuum setup in ‘68 to save money, which was idiotic for the consumer.
Not trying to nitpick tho, as your videos are entertaining and informative
I have a question unrelated to this video, but I have an 86 trans am, I've owned it since 1992.. my question is where can I find its options from the Vin tag??? Is there a website or do I just Google the vinyl number?? I have no idea where to look... I'm curious what the cars original options were... any help would be greatly appreciated, you seem to know a lot about this.. not sure with it being an 86 that it has a cal tag... I'm thinking just the Vin number 🤔
There should be an index card sized sticker either in the glove box or console or possibly in the “well” area in the back. Maybe on the inside of the cover where the spare tire stuff is. It will have the RPO (regular production option) codes on it. Just google 1986 trans am rpo codes.
The tag on firewall, you should have shown it. Tells you what factory made the car, the paint color the interior color, that's what's important, just like you done with these Camaro's.
A guy that owns a Camaro with a rear antenna would probably see a Camaro with a rear antenna everyday.
Get Patrick Glenn to come there and verify it
Not THE Patrick Glenn? He is too expensive.
I dont plan on calling the owner, but what would these cars go for sale as they sit?
is there a way I can reach you about a July built 1969 camaro z28 thats been in our family since 73 and off the road since 1988?
Were any of those Camaros worth trying to get back or they all piles of rust?
Folks never thought these cars would be with 50x what they bought them for, my buddy bought a 69 Chevelle 396 in 73 for 800 bucks. Lol of course he beat the stuffing out of it blown the moter and sold it to old style wreaking yard for 35 bucks. We were clueless back in the day
A yard filled with criers, but some neat parts are still there!
Actually the fastest at the time was the buick 455 gsx tested by car craft as faster then the chevelle and cuda it was called going fast with class
Saludos amigo desde Venezuela...porfa has los vídeos también en español para entender las explicaciones que rsta diciendo.. gracias espero con agrado du video
Is it really called a window winder or a hand crank for the window
